I've had extensive experience with several Android head units. This one has been the best "out of the box" experience so far.InstallationInstallation in my 2022 JT was very straightforward. All necessary harnesses to retain factory USB ports (dash and console) were included. The retention harness for the factory backup camera worked. The most challenging part of the installation was getting the canbus box, camera retention adapter and all wiring crammed behind the dash. There’s very little room back there on the JL/JT. I stuck the 4G and GPS antenna on top of the head unit itself. This works fine and GPS signal is excellent. I opted not to run the external microphone. The internal mic seems to be of decent enough quality. I’ve been told it sounds similar to the factory UConnect mic.

Sound Quality – I have the base non-Alpine system in my JT. Sound quality seems a bit better with the Dasaita head unit, but it’s hard for me to judge here due to the limitations of the factory speakers.

Usability

Boot Time – Cold boot up time is just over 30 seconds (see video). After the initial boot up the unit sleeps and only fully powers off if it detects the car battery is low. This cuts down the boot up time to just a second or two. This behavior is customizable. You can set it to shut off immediately, after 1 hour, etc.

Launcher/interface – The default interface is okay. The home screen has widgets for Navigation, Music and Radio. If you change the default navigation app the Navi widget takes you to the correct app. The other two (Music/Radio) don’t appear to be customizable. I also don’t think you can remove them from the home screen although I haven’t dug into the settings. Swiping left from the home screen takes you through a list of installed Android apps. The unit comes bundled with some common ones – Netflix, Hulu, Google Maps and more. The latest versions of these apps from the Play Store work fine on this device. GaiaGPS also works. I will probably swap over to Dasaita’s Vivid launcher when it’s available for the G12 or possibly an alternative like Agama or Car Launcher Pro.

Vehicle integration – Vehicle settings (at least those that apply to my truck) previously in Uconnect are available in the Car Settings app. There’s a popup with climate information that appears briefly as you use the physical buttons in the stock HVAC controls (see photo). There’s also an “AC” app that will control HVAC, heated steering wheel and heated seats (if equipped). It does have buttons for features your truck may not have. That’s not a big deal to me, but some users may find that annoying. The stock volume and tune knobs in the factory HVAC controls still work. I understand why Dasaita included knobs on the unit. Those replacing the 5” Uconnect radio would not have physical volume/tune knobs available otherwise. The rest of us just end up with two sets of knobs that do the same thing. I do not know if the vehicle integration supports setting options for the factory AUX switches since my truck does not have those. I did not see anything related to them in the options.

Android Auto – This works fine. It seems to connect almost immediately 90% of the time. On occasion I’ve noticed it can take ~30 seconds or so to connect wirelessly.

Apple Carplay – Not tested.

4G LTE Connectivity – Works great with a T-Mobile sim. 4G speeds aren’t great in my area. It works about as well as anything.Bluetooth devices – Phone works, obviously. I have not yet tried any other Bluetooth accessories. I expect the Bluetooth is locked down to only work with a few OBD readers and such. Most of these Android head units don't offer full Bluetooth functionality for accessories. If I'm wrong about this one, I'll provide an update here.Issues- After first installing the unit the backup camera worked, but the image would “glitch” every 10-15 seconds. That issue seems to have fixed itself. Why? I don’t know. I will continue to monitor and update the review if it’s a problem again.- Home screen widget would not display the date when the date format was set to MM/DD/YYYY. Corrected that with a firmware update from Dasaita.

Annoyances- Every other Android head unit I’ve owned has had a reboot/restart option in the pull-down menu. This one does not. In the event it does misbehave there’s no easy way to force a reboot other than accessing the factory settings and clicking “apply” to prompt a reboot. That should be easily corrected with a software update.These are very minor complaints considering the power and flexibility an Android head unit gives you.

Overall, I feel like Dasaita has a winner with the G12.

Update!!
I bought 2 of these units and returned both of them for the same problem. Disappointing as i was so excited for this unit!! Customer service could have been better with trying to help resolve the situation.

So I installed this in my 2018 Jeep JLU Sahara. It works except Android Auto. When I try to call people I can not hear them through my speakers but they can hear me. The radio plays sound so we know it isn't the speakers.

Anyone have suggestions?

Still not working after updates

Update 10/24:
They were able to get the backup camera marginally better although it's still horrible at night and useless. The radio has blacked out a few times, requiring an plug from the harness to reset it. It cannot turn off with the doors off (big issue). You can power it down but it keeps the modules and amplifiers powered. It overheats easily and shuts down. It has done this multiple times. The company now refuses to respond to help/customer service requests as well so I am stuck with what i have. I do like the way it handles android auto and the sound quality is good after adjustment. The display is high quality. All in all, this is a $350 radio at best. I am pretty disappointed in the price I paid. Now that Stinger has a high definition unit out that may be the better choice.
Update 5/21/24:
2 months later and still no working backup camera and updates made it worse. Getting supportnis a PITA and takes days of back and forth due to time zones. Updates are making things worse, not helping. Still no answers for google assistant volume. I feel pretty scammed at this point after paying $800 for a radio that wont really do what they claim. If they could fix the issues they would have an absolute winner. Sadly, two months later, its worse, not better. Will update again if they find a fix. I am saving conversations in case a charge back become inevitable due to a non functional product.
I really didn't want to write a review just yet.As I think the manufacturer can help with a few minor issues. I agree with j Johnson above in that.This is a great radio for the Jeep, And much better than the options that have been around for years. However, if issues such as a glitching rear camera feed, Google Assistant volume unable to be changed independent of the music stream and being way too quiet to hear, and DSP functions not having full capabilities, then this radio becomes not so great of a value. It is difficult to get answers and help from the seller with them wanting you to send videos, and their inability to answer questions about their product's operation. I also feel some of the features are way overstated, like the DSP functionality for sure. If they are able to resolve the current issues I will write a detailed positive review. Currently the product seems great but overall funtionality, especially for the price, questionable for sure at this point. I really hope they resolve the issues so I and others can promote this radio as a viable option for the jeep jl/jt crowd.

I purchased this headunit for my jeep & have to say it was a great upgrade over the factory one it keeps all my factory functions with alot of additions like being able to surf the web, check my emails, Netflix, YouTube, etc. so many features it’s like having a tablet & headunit merge in one. It also is very easy to install anybody can do it as it’s all plug & play & comes with colored instructions. I will definitely be getting one of these for my other truck.

I purchased this headunit for my jeep & have to say it was a great upgrade over the factory one it keeps all my factory functions with alot of additions like being able to surf the web, check my emails, Netflix, YouTube, etc. so many features it’s like having a tablet & headunit merge in one. It also is very easy to install anybody can do it as it’s all plug & play & comes with colored instructions. I will definitely be getting one of these for my other truck.

Was very easy to setup and so far it is a great unit. It is an upgrade over the vivid 10 unit for sure. Has mounting bracket and fits more flush in the car. Can still use usb port under unit as well. Steering wheel controls work as well. Still messing around with settings to customize how I want but very good start.

Had an issue with touch screen on the unit malfunctioning. Reached out to customer service and they helped me out. They were a pleasure to work with and very responsive. Even though I was outside of the return period they agreed to replace the whole unit with a brand new one. I had to pay a very small handling charge but I totally understand that. So far the new unit is just as amazing and works really well. Again, I cannot stress enough how the customer service was top notch when it came to fixing this issue.

Speakers and Camera not working

I’ve installed these type of units before in my other cars (Way more complex). For one, the speaker harnesses is just one plug. I tried messing around with the amp and seeing if there are any settings in CANBUS. Nothing, no sound on passenger side. Secondly, backup camera. I get a warning sign when I am in reverse. I followed the cabling and the labels as the pictures and labels match up. Went into the settings > Looked for the disable reverse setting or whatever it is and it is not there. May return if I can’t fix this by Monday.

Great upgrade over the factory one and lower spec android head unit

upgraded to this dasaita g13 with the 8Gb RAM and 256Gb Storage, coming from a different android headunit, this head unit is way better than the one that i was using, this G13 unit is very fast, and smooth, wireless carplay connects very quick on my Iphone, unlike the other android headunit that I’ve tried, it also sounds great out of the box, turning on DTS will make it sound way better its like night and difference, I am not an audiophile but the difference is massive and i love it, Youtube and Netflix works flawlessly, the built in mic and the upgraded external mic works better than the older one, also, its very easy to install, the harness that connect on the back of the head unit just goes one way so you can’t go wrong, you don’t need a professional to install this, it took me 10-15mins to install it completely and do the initial setup. just a quick tip too when plugging in the harness from the car to the main headunit harness, there will be two plugs in there that are identical, one is gray and one is black, do not use the black one. overall i am happy with the head unit, since my wife drives the rav4 99% of the time she’s also happy because her phone connects on the headunit very quick now.
