Untitled Tom Cruise/Alejandro G. Inarritu Film Announces 2026 Release

Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s first English-language film since “The Revenant” has a release date — and fans of Tom Cruise‘s return to auteur-driven fare have a reason to look forward to October 2, 2026. And even more cause to celebrate: Plot details are finally available. According to a Warner Bros. release, “The most powerful man in the world embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”

The untitled project marks the director’s latest collaboration with his “Birdman” co-writers Alexander Dinelaris and Nicolas Giacobone, with Sabina Berman also sharing a screenwriting credit. Cruise leads a cast that includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, and Riz Ahmed.

Of note: “The Batman II” was initially announced for an October 2, 2026, release. It moves to October 1, 2027.

Also shuffling around on the release calendar: Bong Joon-ho’s “Mickey 17” moves from April 18, 2025, to March 7, 2025, while Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners” moves from March 7 to April 18, 2025.

“Mickey 17” stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” constantly sent to perform dangerous jobs on an ice planet that frequently get him killed. But things get messy when one of the expendables survives a mission that was meant to kill him and he gets entangled with the latest iteration of himself. The film is based on a book by Edward Ashton called “Mickey 7” and also stars Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Naomi Ackie.

“Sinners,” written and directed by Coogler, centers on twin brothers — both played by Michael B. Jordan — who return to their New Orleans hometown to start again, only to discover that an even greater evil is waiting to welcome them back. The feature takes place during the Jim Crow-era. Hailee Steinfeld, Delroy Lindo, and Jack O’Connell co-star.

The film is produced by Coogler and frequent collaborators Sev Ohanian and Zinzi Coogler. The executive producers are Ludwig Göransson, Will Greenfield, and Rebecca Cho.

Coogler’s behind-the-camera “Sinners” team include his “Black Panther” franchise collaborators: Director of photography Autumn Durald Arkapaw, Oscar-winning production designer Hannah Beachler, editor Michael P. Shawver, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson, and Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter.

Tom Cruise and director Alejandro G. Inarritu have teamed up for an untitled project set to be released in 2026. The highly anticipated film will mark the first collaboration between the Hollywood icon and the Oscar-winning filmmaker.

Details about the plot and cast have been kept under wraps, but fans can expect an intense and thought-provoking cinematic experience from these two powerhouses in the industry.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as it nears its 2026 release date. Get ready to witness the magic that happens when Tom Cruise and Alejandro G. Inarritu join forces on the big screen.
