  • President Donald Trump shares update on drones seen flying over New Jersey


    The White House on Tuesday revealed that some of the drones seen flying over New Jersey and other parts of the country in November were authorized to be flown by the Federal Aviation Administration.

    Press secretary Karoline Leavitt shared an update “directly” from President Donald Trump that clarified the origin of the drones, which caused a national stir and captured headlines for weeks late last year. 

    “After research and study, the drones that were flying over New Jersey in large numbers were authorized by the FAA for research and various other reasons,” Leavitt said.

    In addition to those authorized by the FAA, other drones flown by hobbyists were sighted, and that number increased as curiosity about the phenomenon grew, the White House said. 

    “This was not the enemy,” Leavitt said. 

    The drone sightings in November and December originally raised public concerns and even attracted the attention of the FBI.

    “The FBI Newark, NJ State Police, and NJ Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness are asking for the public to report any information related to the recent sightings of possible drones flying in several areas along the Raritan River,” a Dec. 3 FBI statement noted.

    The Federal Aviation Administration even issued temporary flight restrictions after the large number of sightings, prohibiting drone flights over parts of New Jersey.

    However, an FBI official later said that of the roughly 5,000 tips they received related to reported drone sightings, “less than 100 leads have been generated and deemed worthy of further investigative activity.” 

    In mid-December, a DHS official said they’re “confident that many of the reported drone sightings are, in fact, manned aircraft being misidentified as drones,” ABC News reported.

    An analysis by the White House, in coordination with the FBI and state and local officials, concluded that “lawful, legal, commercial hobbyist and even law enforcement aircraft activity” was responsible for the sightings, former White House national security communications adviser John Kirby previously told Fox News.

    Trump had vowed to get to the bottom of the matter once he assumed office. 

    “I can’t imagine it’s an enemy, or there would have been, you know, people would have gotten blown up, all of them. Maybe they were testing things. I don’t know why. They wouldn’t have said what it was,” Trump said from the Oval Office last week. “They had a lot of them flying over Bedminster, which is interesting,” referring to his club in New Jersey.

    “I want to assure the people of New Jersey that the drones spotted flying overhead are part of a routine military training exercise. There is no cause for alarm,” Trump tweeted.

    The sightings of the drones had caused concern among residents, with many speculating about the purpose of the flights. However, Trump’s update has provided some clarity and reassurance to the public.

    It is unclear how long the training exercise will continue or where exactly the drones will be flying, but Trump’s message is likely to alleviate some of the anxiety surrounding the situation.

    Hello friends, I wish I could gather you here today for some good news on the Minnesota Wild, who hope to extend their win streak to two games on Tuesday night vs the Toronto Maple Leafs. Unfortunately, as you knew when you clicked to get here, that is not the case. Unfortunately, it appears Kirill Kaprizov has missed practice yet again.

    Minnesota Wild have bad news injury update on Kirill Kaprizov

    At 11 AM on Tuesday, Guerin met with media, where he gave an injury update on Kaprizov that we were all dreading. Prior to Guerin’s announcement, The Athletic’s Michael Russo got the jist of the update on Kaprizov out first, reporting that the 27-year-old superstar did not practice today.

    He also confirmed that the ailment in question was the same lower body injury Kirill Kaprizov missed 12 games between December and January because of. And then, Guerin confirmed the worst part… that the injury requires surgery and Kaprizov will be out week-to-week.

    Kirill Kaprizov missed practice Tuesday and, according to multiple league sources, there have been discussions between Kaprizov, Minnesota Wild management and doctors over the past few days over whether Kaprizov should undergo surgery this week for a lower-body injury that has been ailing him since mid-December.

    What is next for MN Wild and Kaprizov?

    Thankfully, this injury will not end Kaprizov’s season. As noted earlier, the injury is week-to-week, not month-to-month. That begs to question why he did Kirill not elect for this surgery sooner? Could they have fixed this injury for good, when it first happened and what changed that has them now opting for surgery? I’m guessing some of the answers to those questions will start trickling in over the coming days.

    Prior to his injury, Kirill Kaprizov held the best odds in the NHL for 2024-25 MVP (Hart). In 37 games this season he has collected 52 points (23 goals, 29 assists). He did not score a goal in any of the three games after he returned to the lineup. Without a doubt, this is devastating news for a Minnesota Wild team that has lost five of its last seven and went 1-3-0 even with Kirill the Thrill in the lineup.

  • One Piece Season 2’s Release Date Update Confirms The Netflix Live-Action Show’s Biggest Challenge In Adapting The Anime


    Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation has proven to be a huge success for the streaming service, and the second season already has a release window. However, it may be a longer wait than most audiences were anticipating. One Piece season 1 came out in the summer of 2023, and viewers have been waiting for season 2’s release date confirmation ever since. While that wait is normal for big-budget streaming shows, this scenario isn’t ideal for such an epic and long-running franchise as One Piece, which has plenty of material to cover.

    Thankfully, One Piece‘s creator Eiichiro Oda is invested in the show quite strongly, so the long wait may be a result of trying to get everything perfect. It’s always going to be difficult to translate such a cartoonish show into a live-action format, but the first season did an excellent job of making the anime’s visuals mesh perfectly with a more realistic style. This will hopefully also be the case for One Piece season 2, as the show needs to introduce several new characters and locations before it can even come close to catching up with the manga and anime.

    One Piece Season 2 Will Arrive More Than 2 Years After Season 1

    It’s A Long Gap Between Seasons That Has Become Common For Streaming

    It was recently confirmed that One Piece season 2 will arrive in late 2025, which is over two years since the first season was released. Thankfully, there’s a silver lining to the news; while it’s disappointing that audiences will have to wait another eight or nine months before jumping back into One Piece, it’s encouraging that a firm release window has finally been confirmed. This means the show is well on track to being completed and is likely already in post-production.

    The One Piece, an One Piece anime remake from Wit Studio, is currently in development at Netflix.

    Admittedly, two years isn’t too long to wait between seasons of a TV show – particularly for Netflix shows, which aren’t always guaranteed renewal in the first place. The only problem is that One Piece’s first season felt like a set-up for what’s to come in the future, and without knowing exactly what that is, it’s hard for audiences not familiar with the material to fully engage with this show yet. There’s no doubt that later seasons of One Piece will only get better as this universe expands, but this wait between seasons risks deterring new audiences from coming back.

    One Piece Taking So Long Between Seasons Makes It Even More Difficult For It To Cover The Anime

    The Show Will Struggle To Get Through The Whole Story

    The main problem with One Piece’s two-year wait between seasons is the fact that Netflix’s show simply has so much material to cover. There are currently over 1,100 episodes of the One Piece anime, so it’s hard to imagine that Netflix’s adaptation will even come close to navigating the whole story if a two-year wait can be expected between each season. This is obviously a result of live-action filmmaking being more complicated and requiring more time to carry out, but it’s still a disappointment.

It might even be difficult for long-time fans of the anime will get too invested in the live-action adaptation when the original show is still on air, as there’s a constant stream of new material to keep them entertained. With One Piece only covering Arabasta in season 3, the show might need to condense several storylines into shorter, more bite-size narratives that fit within a single season in the future.

    Don’t Worry, One Piece Season 3 Might Not That Take Long To Premiere

    The Gap Between Seasons 2 And 3 May Be Shorter

    Coincidentally, Netflix may be planning a coordinated release strategy for One Piece’s second and third seasons, as they’ve been doing with other popular shows recently. Squid Game is a prime example – the show’s second and third seasons were both renewed at the same time, and the filming process for both seasons was somewhat intertwined. This meant that the gap between seasons was much shorter, with Squid Game season 3 releasing in 2025. Netflix could be planning a similar release strategy with One Piece.

    One Piece Season 2 Can Give Us The Nico Robin Scene That Should’ve Happened In The Anime 24 Years Ago

    Netflix’s One Piece season 2 has a golden opportunity to add a Nico Robin scene that didn’t happen in the original anime and manga series.

    This theory looks increasingly likely when considering the actual content of One Piece ​​​​​​season 2, and how easily it could tie into the next collection of episodes. It’s already been confirmed that One Piece season 2 will end shortly before the Arabasta arc, so it may lead directly into season 3 – just as Squid Game did. This would be a brilliant way of tying the two seasons together, but it only works if the wait for season 3 is not as long.

    The best solution to overcome these inherent obstacles for Netflix’s One Piece is to view the show as totally separate from both the manga and the anime.

    If this is the case, One Piece could definitely become one of Netflix’s biggest properties in the future. This release strategy has proven incredibly successful for the streaming service, as it allows shows to connect their narrative arcs more clearly – and it’s less of a strain on audiences’ memories between seasons. Stranger Things is another great example of this, as the show’s fourth season was split into two parts which were released a few months apart. This made the wait for Stranger Things ​season 5 much more bearable.

    Netflix’s One Piece Has A Virtually Impossible Mission In Covering The Entire Manga

    Netflix’s Show Won’t Come Close To Covering The Whole Manga

    Even if Netflix’s One Piece manages to condense the anime into bite-size pieces that prevent it from feeling too far behind, there’s virtually no way the show will be able to catch up with the original manga. It’s impossible to imagine that One Piece will go on long enough to cover over 1,000 chapters of storytelling, many of which have plenty of new characters and locations. The decision to save Arabasta for season 3 is confirmation of this – the live-action show isn’t in a rush, and there’s an ocean of material ahead of it.

    Ultimately, the best solution to overcome these inherent obstacles for Netflix’s One Piece is to view the show as totally separate from both the manga and the anime. It’s never going to cover the same ground, so expecting that is essentially just setting the show up for failure. Instead, it’s much easier to understand the live-action show as its own story that follows a more traditional release format (as opposed to the 1,000+ episodes of the anime) and takes creative liberties along the way.

  • A Disappointing Update About ‘One Piece’ Season 2 On Netflix


    Netflix shows are known for their very long gaps between seasons, though I suppose that’s not exclusive just to that service in this day and age of streaming. But now we have news that yet another Netflix hit series is probably going to have at least two years between seasons, if not more.

    That would be One Piece season 2, and thanks to some Netflix-leaked information, we have confirmation that the show is coming in 2025, but that’s all we have, and it would seem to reinforce the idea that it’s coming later in the year, if not right at the end.

    Garp actor Vincent Regan previously said it was targeting a Christmas 2025 release, but other sources ended up saying 2026 was more likely. Now, Netflix’s own TUDUM site, when talking about a separate LEGO collaboration, said that new episodes would arrive later in 2025, the article now being taken down but archived here. Given that this is an official Netflix site, yes, we should put a lot of stock in that.

    One Piece season 1 debuted on Netflix on August 31, 2023. It does not seem likely at this point, given all this information, that it will debut before that in 2025, making it a full two year wait between seasons. Sometimes Netflix series get away with a year and a half gap, but if that Christmas 2025 date comes to pass, that would be 2.3 years, thereabouts. I also think it’s possible that with Netflix taking down that 2025 date, they are not actually willing to commit to that yet, and it may actually be 2026 after all. Either way, that’s not great news for those hoping for a sooner return.

    We’ll see how they do it, but yes, this is going to be something to behold, that’s for sure. No wonder it’s taking this long.

    The All-Star break begins Feb. 14, which would put Doncic’s hypothetical return within the next 19 days.

    Doncic—the league’s defending scoring champion—is averaging 28.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.8 assists per game this season.

    DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) — Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is set to release Monday night the findings of her investigation in Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

    Last summer, Lightfoot’s preliminary report showed the village is more than $3.5 million in the red after having a more than $5.5 million surplus around the time Henyard became mayor. Tuesday night’s report is expected to lay out more details.

    In a statement, Lightfoot said in part, “The report details consistent mismanagement of Village finances through excessive spending on non-essential goods and services, systematic attempts by Mayor Henyard and others at her direction to hide the true financial condition of the Village from the Board of Trustees and the public, as well as other efforts to thwart efforts aimed at transparency as mandated under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.”

    Former Chicago Mayor Lori LIghtfoot presented the findings of her investigation in Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard at a public meeting Monday evening.

    Lightfoot, formerly Chicago’s mayor and now working in the private sector at a global management consulting firm, was hired by Dolton trustees to investigate the village’s finances. She found soaring expenditures in 2023 on at least half a dozen village credit cards, including more than $43,000 in Amazon purchases in a single day and thousands of dollars spent at Wayfair and Best Buy.

    There were also travel expenses, including for nine domestic trips taken by Mayor Henyard and other village officials. One of those trips to Las Vegas is the subject of a lawsuit alleging sexual assault and claims of retaliation.

    Residents are eager to learn more at the evening meeting.

    “It’s very important for people to see the findings that Lori Lightfoot is going to give us because it’s a lot of people that are doubting that she’s really corrupt, and with this investigation they’ll be able to see that she’s not really the person that they think she is,” said resident Vivian Allen.

    “She’s tried to justify for the money, and she said something about some ice on the ice rink, and I go like no. That can’t be. Not $43,000 for the ice on the ice rink. I don’t believe it,” said resident Naomi Lopresto.

    Henyard is seeking re-election as mayor of Dolton. The meeting comes about a month before the primary election.

    ABC7 left a message for Henyard’s attorney, seeking comment after Lightfoot’s report is released.

    “Today, we released the final summary of findings and recommendations on the investigation into Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s financial management of the Village of Dolton’s revenues and expenses, as requested by the Village Trustees. The report details consistent mismanagement of Village finances through excessive spending on non-essential goods and services, systematic attempts by Mayor Henyard and others at her direction to hide the true financial condition of the Village from the Board of Trustees and the public, as well as other efforts to thwart efforts aimed at transparency as mandated under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”). The report establishes the absence of competent governance and continued violations of governance norms during Mayor Henyard’s tenure. The costs to taxpayers have been significant, starting with a substantial budget deficit, higher costs for basic necessities like liability insurance, and many lawsuits against the Village directly related to allegations of misconduct by Henyard and others.

    “Throughout our independent inquiry, we consistently encountered a mayor and administration that evaded transparency-skirting FOIA laws, failing to provide requested documents, and otherwise refusing to cooperate with the investigation. The report provides a detailed accounting of gross financial mismanagement, both at the Village level and at Thornton Township, during her tenure as Supervisor, including unspent American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, failure to comply with reporting requirements, misuse of taxpayer dollars, and failure to pay vendors. We also uncovered Village liability insurers refused to provide coverage to Mayor Henyard, which potentially exposes the village to significant legal and financial risks.

    “The details in this report are significant, and we are confident the majority of Trustees will continue to take the necessary steps to safeguard the Village. We thank them, along with the residents of Dolton, for placing their confidence in our team to conduct this investigation, provide truthful insight into the Village’s financial standing, and offer recommendations to support their efforts toward improved governance.”

    The Detroit Red Wings have certainly seen multiple changes since their last matchup with the Kings on November 16th. The team has gone 10-4-1 since the coaching change, but more importantly there are players who seem to have moved forward. Johansson was recently praised by coach McLellan as the player that has surprised him the most. The previously “shelved” blue liner has shown improved play in all 3 zones, the coach opined.

    With the type of in net performance Talbot put in against Tampa but a normally hot power play stymied it seems difficult to compare the group that Los Angeles will face based on the performance that fans witnessed in the last meeting. The team’s needs to play hard but disciplined to maximize the opportunity to be on the man advantage. Soderblom has been all around the net during this callup and it would be nice to see the big man get on the board.

    The team’s win against Tampa wasn’t solely based on goaltending, but the last period saw Talbot shut down multiple grade A chances. The defense (opinion) on the PK did a better job with the defender down low in terms of opposing players getting behind them. The power play seems to get good zone time even on sequences that don’t result in a goal.

    It will be interesting to see if this team can reverse their previous fortunes against the Kings. As always let me know your thoughts and what you expect to see.

    Apple on Monday released a software update for iPhones, iPads and Macs that turns Apple Intelligence on by default for users with supported devices.

    The updates, iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3 and macOS Sequoia 15.3, also disable AI summaries for news apps, which have gained a reputation for twisting news push notifications to display inaccurate facts.

    The release is a milestone in the rollout of Apple Intelligence, the company’s suite of artificial intelligence features. Apple Intelligence is a critical product for Apple as it seeks to distinguish its products from competitors with an AI system integrated into iPhones and its other products.

    While Apple Intelligence is already featured in the company’s marketing for the latest iPhones, the rollout has been deliberate and limited. Apple says that is to allow it to test new features and make sure it has enough server capacity. The entire Apple Intelligence suite is still officially in beta, and it’s only available in a handful of English-speaking countries.

    Apple’s move to turn Apple Intelligence on by default is a step towards a more complete rollout of the feature. Previously, users with supported iPhones — models that were released in 2024 as well as 2023 “Pro” level models — were prompted to turn on Apple Intelligence when setting up their phone, a process that included downloading AI models from the internet and some installation.

    With the latest updates, Apple Intelligence will be turned on by default when the latest software update is installed, expanding the number of users who are exposed to the software. Apple Intelligence is marketed as being able to rewrite text, generate images and summarize long emails and message threads.

    “For users new or upgrading to iOS 18.3, Apple Intelligence will be enabled automatically during iPhone onboarding,” Apple said in the developer release notes for the update.

    Users will have to navigate to the Apple Intelligence page in the Settings app to turn it off, according to Apple.

    The latest software update also includes one of the most notable example so far of Apple rolling back an AI feature after it generated controversy and subpar results. Apple joins Google and Microsoft as companies that were forced to roll back new AI features after it generated harmful content or “hallucinations” that weren’t based in reality.

    Apple Intelligence can take stacks of notifications and simplify them into a three-sentence notification. However, the BBC and other news outlets discovered in December that the feature can twist news headlines into inaccurate information.

    Earlier this month, Apple’s system conflated notifications from BBC’s sports app to say that “Brazilian tennis player, Rafael Nadal, comes out as gay.” Nadal is Spanish and is married to Maria Francisca Perello.

    The latest update disables Apple Intelligence for news and entertainment apps. Apple Intelligence also has been updated to show any notifications generated by its AI in italics, signifying which notifications are created by generative AI and which were pushed by the app itself.

    “We’re pleased that Apple has listened to our concerns and is pausing the summarization feature for news,” a BBC spokesperson told CNBC.

    Apple told CNBC earlier this month that its notification summaries for news apps would return in a future update.
