The Portland Trail Blazers broke their six-game losing streak with a win over the Denver Nuggets to start the week, but then fell to the San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks to go 1-2 on the week.
There were plenty of individual strong performances in one or two games this week, but the biggest standout performer was the Blazer of the Week, Shaedon Sharpe.
Sharpe scored 27 points and then 25 points against the Nuggets and Spurs, respectively, leading to a 22.7 point per-game average for the week. He also averaged 3.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game this week while shooting 54.2% from the field and 33.3% from behind the arc.
After a hot start to the year, Sharpe’s scoring numbers slowed down a bit, but that recovered this week for a pair of strong performances. His aggressiveness in getting to the rim helped open up other avenues for scoring for his teammates and opportunities for Sharpe himself to get open from three-point range or the midrange.
Sharpe has struggled with turnovers at various points this season, especially when tasked with being a primary ball-handler. However, this week he had just two turnovers between the three games. He played mostly in an off-ball role and excelled as the primary scorer in that role.
This week’s honorable mention is Deni Avdija.
Avdija has been an incredibly valuable part of Portland’s rotation this season due to his defense and offensive abilities. This week he averaged 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game off the bench. His ability to function as a release valve on offense and a secondary ball-handler makes his game a very important part of the offensive gameplan for the Blazers. Avdija seems to have outperformed his bench role since being moved there in early November.
