  • Paul DePodesta Urged Browns To Pass On Myles Garrett In 2017 Draft

The Cleveland Browns made a rather unorthodox decision when they hired Paul DePodesta in 2016.

They brought in someone with a proven background in a different sport to aid in their decision-making process.

After successful tenures in Major League Baseball, the Browns appointed Paul DePodesta as their Chief Strategy Officer.

From that day on, the fans have mostly questioned his work at that position, oftentimes wondering what he actually does.

He’s expected to provide some analytics-based input on the team’s decisions and roster-building, yet many fans don’t seem to understand what he’s getting paid to do.

That’s why, in his latest mailbag session, one fan asked Browns insider Tony Grossi whether DePodesta has actually made an impactful contribution to the team.

Grossi’s response, however, might not appease the fans:

“DePodesta’s greatest contribution was marrying head coach Kevin Stefanski with GM Andrew Berry. It fulfilled Jimmy Haslam’s directive to have peace and harmony between GM and head coach. To his credit, DePodesta also recommended Sean McDermott as a coaching candidate instead of Freddie Kitchens. On the other hand, he advocated quarterback Mitch Trubisky over Myles Garrett with the No. 1 pick in 2017,” Grossi said.

Of course, one could make a case for the Browns desperately needing a quarterback back then, and Trubisky did look like he would be a successful quarterback at the next level.

Also, he wasn’t the only one who thought the Browns could’ve done better than taking Garrett at the time.

Fortunately, they didn’t listen to his pitch and ended up choosing the future Hall of Famer anyway.

Some fans also hold the Deshaun Watson trade against him as well.

Then again, that seemed like a good deal at the time, at least from a football perspective.

As things stand now, fans might not be necessarily thrilled with what he’s done.

In a shocking revelation, it has been reported that Paul DePodesta, the Chief Strategy Officer of the Cleveland Browns, urged the team to pass on selecting defensive end Myles Garrett with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. DePodesta, who is known for his analytical approach to decision-making, reportedly had concerns about Garrett's fit with the team's long-term strategy. Instead, he advocated for the Browns to trade down in the draft in order to acquire more picks. Ultimately, the Browns decided to ignore DePodesta's advice and selected Garrett, who has since become one of the team's top players and a key contributor on defense. However, DePodesta's controversial recommendation raises questions about the role of analytics in the NFL draft process and the influence of front office executives on team decisions. It remains to be seen how this revelation will impact the relationship between DePodesta and the Browns organization moving forward, but it is clear that his input has the potential to shape the team's future in unexpected ways. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.

  • Patriots Urged to Make Jalen Hurts Move to Help Drake Maye

    Jalen Hurts vs. Patriots

The New England Patriots have been urged to help Drake Maye by making a change involving Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts.

Managing Drake Maye’s development will determine the success of the New England Patriots under Mike Vrabel, and the new head coach can make a key move to help his star quarterback, based on how the Philadelphia Eagles use Jalen Hurts.

It’s a suggestion from Patriots.com Senior Reporter Evan Lazar. He would “love to see the #Patriots install Philly’s RPO package for Drake Maye. So many layups for Hurts that keep the offense on schedule.”

I’d love to see the #Patriots install Philly’s RPO package for Drake Maye. So many layups for Hurts that keep the offense on schedule.

Moving the offense toward Hurts-friendly schemes would be all about making Maye’s job easier by creating manageable down and distance situations. As Lazar put it, “you just see so many 1st-and-10s become 2nd-and-3 with Philly running their option package. Now, everything is on the table when you’re ahead of the chain. So many different options.”

While the Patriots don’t have the talent around Maye Hurts benefits from in Philadelphia, there’s a lot of merit to Lazar’s suggestion. Notably, how an option-style offense based on packaged plays suits Maye’s core dual-threat skills.

It’s also a scheme returning offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has called effectively in the recent past.

Jalen Hurts a Good Template for Drake Maye

Hurts has the Eagles in a second Super Bowl in three years while running RPOs at a higher rate than anybody in the league. Former NFL QB, turned Fox Sports analyst Chase Daniel broke down three of Hurts’ option faves back in early December, when the Eagles led “the NFL in RPO’s this season, running them a staggering 22% of the the time.”

The Eagles are fully bringing back the RPO & using it to clear things up for Jalen Hurts.

Eagles lead the NFL in RPO’s this season, running them a staggering 22% of the the time.

3 of their favorite plays broken down

The key points from Daniel’s analysis were how the RPO game can create “an easy pitch and catch touchdown. These are the type of plays that Jalen Hurts needs. And then you get the QB-run game going.”

Both of those things can apply to Maye and accelerate the development of the third-overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. Creating easy throwing windows and quick dumpoffs for Maye would reduce the inefficiencies in his gunslinging style that led to him throwing 10 interceptions and taking 34 sacks in 12 starts.

The other benefit of leaning into RPOs is the chance to unleash Maye on designed runs more often. He averaged 7.8 yards per rush and 22 first downs on the ground as a rookie, so the Patriots must use Maye’s mobility in increasingly creative ways.

Fortunately, the option game can work because Maye ran out of it effectively during his college days at North Carolina, per Taylor Kyles of Patriots on CLNS.

Don’t mind Van Pelt avoiding QB runs late in a lost season, but they must be a part of next season’s playbook

Drake Maye’s vision and elusiveness translated to designed runs at UNC, and more time in an NFL strength + conditioning program should provide added protection

Designing RPOs like these won’t be a problem for Daniels based on his ample experience with similar concepts.

Josh McDaniels Can Bring Option Game Back to Offense

Back to back seasons having Cam Newton and Mac Jones at the controls of his offenses gave McDaniels plenty of opportunities to call option plays. Most of those calls were made for Newton in 2020, when the former NFL MVP ran 36 RPOs, 13 passes and 23 runs, according to Pro Football Reference.

Some of Newton’s best option calls were highlighted by Lazar as proof “all this stuff is in McDaniels’s bag.”

Will have a full breakdown on McDaniels & Maye soon. One thing that stands out from the #Patriots archives: McDaniels did plenty of RPO stuff with Cam in 2020 (RPO power-read/bubble screen).

We might not have seen it with Brady/Mac. But all this stuff is in McDaniels’s bag.

The Pats didn’t use quite so many packaged plays when Jones usurped Newton as QB1 a year later. Jones still ran 27 RPOs, but rarely opted to run.

Maye could be counted on to trust his legs more often as a more dynamic runner, although he doesn’t have the same advantages as Hurts. Advantages such as 2,000-yard running back Saquon Barkley and the most powerful offensive line in football.

Nor does Maye have a wide receiver as physical as A.J. Brown turning his quick throws into yards. Brown could be on the Patriots radar because of his connections with Vrabel from their days with the Tennessee Titans, but it’s more likely general manager Eliot Wolf looks elsewhere for the big-bodied receiver Maye needs.

Superior personnel and different concepts more favorable to his talents can prime Maye for Hurts-like success in Year 2.

As the NFL offseason continues, speculation is growing about potential moves the New England Patriots could make to strengthen their roster. One move that has been gaining traction among fans and analysts is the idea of the Patriots trading for Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts to help rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

Maye, who was selected by the Patriots in the 2022 NFL Draft, is seen as a promising young talent with a bright future in the league. However, many believe that he would benefit from having a veteran presence like Hurts to mentor him and provide valuable guidance as he adjusts to the NFL.

Hurts, who has shown flashes of potential during his time with the Eagles, could also benefit from a change of scenery and the opportunity to compete for the starting job in New England. With Cam Newton’s future with the Patriots uncertain, bringing in Hurts could provide the team with a solid backup option and potential long-term solution at the quarterback position.

While it remains to be seen if the Patriots will make a move for Hurts, the idea of pairing him with Maye has generated excitement among fans who are eager to see the team make a splash this offseason. Only time will tell if this potential trade will come to fruition, but one thing is for certain – the Patriots are being urged to make a move to help Drake Maye succeed in New England.

  • Trump urged to pardon 76-year-old grandmother, others in prison for pro-life activism

Amid newly inaugurated President Donald Trump’s pardon of nearly 1,500 January 6 protesters, anti-abortion groups are calling on the president to pardon a 76-year-old grandmother and 20 others who were imprisoned and prosecuted for pro-life protests under the Biden Department of Justice.

One group, the Thomas More Society, a law firm specializing in pro-life cases, filed a petition to the new president in which it laid out the legal grounds for him to issue pardons and pointed out how President Joe Biden abused the justice system to target these pro-life activists.

Steve Crampton, a senior counsel at the Thomas More Society, told Fox News Digital that it is “absolutely vital” these activists be pardoned to restore equality under the law.

We hope by President Trump’s actions here that he will restore some sanity and rule of law to the approach of the Department of Justice and the FBI, but also help move this culture back toward a culture of life rather than one of death,” said Crampton. “This small act on his part would, in fact, serve to kind of ignite a momentous movement toward restoring a respect for life in this nation that’s so desperately needed.”

WHITE HOUSE HINTS AT ‘MASSIVE’ ANNOUNCEMENT FROM PRESIDENT TRUMP ON FIRST FULL DAY IN OFFICE

Trump indicated several times during his campaign that he is open to issuing pardons for some of these pro-lifers who were prosecuted under a federal law called the Freedom of Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act. The activists were convicted of FACE Act violations for participating in various “sit-in” protests inside abortion clinics in Washington, D.C., Nashville, Detroit, Long Island and Manhattan.

According to the Thomas More Society, Biden’s Department of Justice used the FACE Act to increase sentences for crimes that would otherwise have been simple trespassing charges. The group says Biden sought to make examples of these pro-lifers, prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law, despite their sit-in protests inside abortion clinics being entirely peaceful and with no threat of violence or intimidation.

Now that Trump is back in the White House, the Thomas More Society believes he can restore justice for these 21 activists and, in so doing, help restore confidence and trust in the justice system among the American people.

In my lifetime, I’ve never seen a president honor his campaign promises the way this president has,” said Crampton. “So, we’re very hopeful that he will do so again in this case. And for these people who are really just salt of the earth, the best kind of folks that ought to be in their communities doing good rather than behind bars.”

Of the 21 activists prosecuted under the Biden administration’s use of the FACE Act, nine are currently in prison. Several of those in prison are elderly, with three, Jean Marshall, Paullette Harlow and Joan Andrews Bell, in their 70s. The eldest is Bell, who, at 76, has seven adult children and seven grandchildren. She was sentenced to over two years in prison.

One activist, Heather Idoni, 59, who was sentenced to two years, has undergone serious health difficulties and suffered a minor stroke while in prison.

The longest prison sentence went to 31-year-old Lauren Handy, who is currently serving a nearly five-year sentence for her role in organizing a 2020 sit-in protest at the Washington, D.C., Surgi-Clinic run by Dr. Cesare Santangelo.

Also facing prison time is 89-year-old Eva Edl, a survivor of a communist concentration camp, who has been active in the pro-life movement for decades.

“Down is up and up is down in this case,” said Crampton. “These people are folks who, some of them, have adopted several special-needs children from places like Ukraine. Some are missionaries to China and Ukraine and the worst places on the planet, going out of their way to do good to people that are in desperate need. These are folks that ought to be receiving those citizenship medals that President Biden is handing out to the likes of George Soros, who is trying to destroy our nation.”

“We must restore the rule of law,” he went on. “The questioning of Mr. Trump’s Cabinet appointees this past week, ironically enough, from the left, points again and again, back to the need not to single out political opponents for prosecution and so forth.”

“We have recently undertaken a disrespect for the rule of law that has undermined any respect for authority in general, let alone the law in particular,” he said. “So, I really think that this also is a small step back to restoring that absolutely essential respect for the rule of law that we must have if America is to survive.”

President Trump is facing renewed calls to pardon a 76-year-old grandmother and several others who are currently serving time in prison for their pro-life activism.

Mary Wagner, a Canadian citizen, has been incarcerated in the United States for her peaceful protests at abortion clinics. Despite her advanced age and nonviolent tactics, she was sentenced to prison for her beliefs.

In addition to Wagner, there are many other individuals who have been imprisoned for their pro-life advocacy, including David Daleiden, Sandra Merritt, and others involved in the Center for Medical Progress undercover videos exposing Planned Parenthood’s sale of fetal body parts.

Advocates argue that these individuals have been unfairly targeted and punished for exercising their First Amendment rights and standing up for the sanctity of life. They are urging President Trump to pardon these individuals and grant them clemency.

As the end of his presidency approaches, President Trump has the opportunity to right these perceived wrongs and show his support for the pro-life movement. Will he heed the calls for justice and grant pardons to these individuals, or will their activism continue to be silenced behind bars? Only time will tell.

  • Fire weather conditions persist in San Diego County, residents urged to prepare

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With several brush fires erupting around San Diego County this week, dangerous conditions continued across the region on Thursday.

A Red Flag Warning remained active for inland and mountain communities through Friday morning, which means it could be another busy day for local fire crews.

The past few days have demonstrated how quickly the Santa Ana winds can cause fires to spark and spread.

On Wednesday, the Bernardo Fire scorched parts of Rancho Bernardo, burning 7 acres and threatening homes before it was contained.

Firefighters told ABC 10News the blaze had the potential to destroy 100 acres.

Firefighters on Tuesday put out the Friars Fire near Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley. Crews were able to contain the fire before it could damage any home, but this fire and the Rancho Bernardo blaze both triggered evacuation warnings that forced people to leave their homes.

“Our main objective was to get our cat and then we got our cat out and yeah, that was it,” a Mission Valley resident told ABC 10News. “We just, we ended up hanging around here just to see kind of if it would escalate or if the firefighters would be able to handle it. And they did such a good job. Like, they were so prepared so thanks to them we’re OK.”

For Cal Fire’s tips to prepare for fire weather, click here.

As fire weather conditions continue to persist in San Diego County, residents are being urged to take precautions and prepare for potential emergencies. With high temperatures, low humidity, and gusty winds in the forecast, the risk of wildfires is elevated.

It is crucial for residents to create defensible space around their homes by clearing brush and debris, trimming trees and shrubs, and maintaining a well-watered landscape. Additionally, households should have an emergency kit stocked with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, important documents, and a first aid kit.

In the event of an evacuation order, residents should have a plan in place and be ready to leave at a moment’s notice. Stay informed by signing up for emergency alerts and monitoring local news and weather updates.

Remember, the safety of you and your family is the top priority. Take the necessary steps to protect your home and loved ones during these challenging fire weather conditions. Stay safe, San Diego County.

  • Commanders Urged to Re-Sign 3-Time Pro Bowl TE Zach Ertz

    Zach Ertz

    Getty

Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz.

Of all the unexpected success stories on the Washington Commanders this season, probably none stands above veteran tight end Zach Ertz.

Ertz’s career was DOA by the time he signed a 1-year, $3 million contract with the Commanders in March 2024 — his fourth team in 4 seasons and a world removed from his 9 seasons as one of the NFL’s most dominant tight ends with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2013 to 2021.

In Ertz, the Commanders found nothing short of a revelation. Lacking a legitimate WR2 option after NFL All-Pro wide receiver Terry McLaurin, Ertz filled that void and became one of rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels’ favorite targets and finished second on the team with 66 receptions for 654 yards and 7 touchdowns.

The Commanders went 12-5 in the regular season — their best record since 1991 — and defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFC Wild Card Round for their first playoff victory since 2005.

Now, with an NFC Divisional Round matchup against the No. 1 seed Detroit Lions on tap on January 18, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay should move to sign the 34-year-old Ertz to a new deal.

“The Commanders have to be happy with the returns on their one-year, $3 million investment into Ertz,” Kay wrote. “While he’ll likely earn a raise on his next deal, retaining the 34-year-old should be a priority for a team that has the third-most projected cap space in the league.”

Ertz Didn’t Inspire Confidence in Preseason

Ertz’s role headed into the season — from the outside looking in — was more in line with being a placeholder at the position for 2024 second round pick Ben Sinnott and definitely not as one of the best players on a playoff team.

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon even had Ertz on his list of the potential “Biggest Busts” in the NFL headed into the season.

“Zach Ertz has reliable hands,” Kenyon wrote. “For rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels, that will be a positive in a safety outlet. At this point of Ertz’s career, however, that’s about as positive as it gets. He hardly generates any yards after the catch and is no longer a high-volume target.”

    Dominant Decade With Philadelphia Eagles

Ertz spent the first nine seasons of his career with the Eagles after they selected him in the second round (No. 35 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft.

Ertz made three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2017 to 2019 and was part of the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning team following the 2017 season. He had at least 700 receiving yards every season from 2014 to 2019 and had a career year in 2018, when he set an NFL record for tight ends with 116 receptions to go with 1,163 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns. He also holds Philadelphia franchise records for most receptions in a single game (15) and mosts receptions in a single season (116).

In 2021, Ertz was traded to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the season and bounced back with 74 receptions for 763 yards and 5 touchdowns. His play landed him another big payday after he signed a 3-year, $31.65 million contract with the Cardinals in March 2022.

Over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Ertz missed 17 games due to injury and was eventually released by the Cardinals toward the end of the 2023 season and finished the year on the practice squad for the Lions.

The Philadelphia Eagles are urging their commanders to re-sign three-time Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz. Ertz has been a key player for the team since being drafted in 2013 and has consistently been a top performer on the field.

His leadership, talent, and work ethic make him a valuable asset to the team, and the Eagles are eager to keep him in their lineup for the upcoming seasons. With his impressive track record and ability to make big plays, Ertz is a player that the team simply cannot afford to lose.

As negotiations continue, fans are hopeful that the Eagles will be able to reach an agreement with Ertz and secure his presence on the team for years to come. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story. #FlyEaglesFly #ZachErtz #ProBowlBound

Residents Urged to Prepare as Tornado Risk Increases in New Orleans

With tornado season in full swing, residents of New Orleans are being urged to prepare for the increased risk of severe weather. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for the area, highlighting the potential for dangerous storms to develop.

Tornadoes are a common occurrence in the southern United States, and New Orleans is no exception. The city has experienced its fair share of tornadoes in the past, causing damage and destruction to homes and businesses.

To help residents stay safe during tornado season, local authorities are urging people to take precautions and prepare for the possibility of severe weather. This includes creating a family emergency plan, securing outdoor items, and staying informed about weather conditions.

One of the most important steps residents can take is to have a designated safe space in their homes where they can seek shelter during a tornado. This could be a basement, storm cellar, or interior room on the lowest level of the house.

It is also important for residents to have an emergency kit on hand that includes items such as non-perishable food, water, flashlights, batteries, and a first aid kit. Having these supplies readily available can help families weather the storm and stay safe until help arrives.

The Minnesota Vikings have proved to be a home to misfit quarterbacks looking for a second chance in the NFL. Their most recent arrival is former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones, who could be on the move before the end of the 2024 season.

In light of Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts suffering a concussion in Week 16 loss to the Washington Commanders, Sports Illustrated’s Patrick McAvoy suggested the Eagles could be looking to sign Jones off the Vikings’ practice squad.

“Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones had a rough ending to his time with the team. He landed a four-year, $160 million deal but was benched this year and eventually was let go. He landed with the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and has been there over the last few weeks,” McAvoy wrote on December 24. “Now that Hurts has a concussion, could the Eagles get Jones? Technically, it is possible. Teams can sign players off other teams’ practice squads if they were to add them to the active roster.

If the Eagles wanted to make another move, adding Jones would give the team a better chance to win than either [Kenny] Pickett or [Tanner] McKee. Plus, this move would reunite Jones with former Giants teammate Saquon Barkley.”

While Jones would need to be added to the Eagles’ 53-man roster, it’s unlikely he’d be trusted to help Philadelphia clinch the NFC East division title this week.

However, he would provide the best veteran insurance policy at the quarterback position in time for the playoffs. Jones has a playoff win under his belt and has similar mobility as Hurts, making him an ideal fit for the Eagles and a potentially awkward reunion if Philadelphia and Minnesota met in the postseason.

The Vikings signed Jones to their practice squad on November 27 after the Giants released him midseason following his benching in Week 10.

When Jones cleared waivers following his release, he had several potential suitors but opted to join Minnesota. The Vikings offensive system under Kevin O’Connell is coveted for turning around Sam Darnold’s career, creating intrigue for other quarterbacks around the league.

Before the start of the season, Minnesota signed Darnold to a one-year, $10 million contract as competition for the starting job alongside J.J. McCarthy. When McCarthy underwent season-ending knee surgery, the Vikings’ season seemed lost. Oddsmakers set their win-total over-under to just 6.5 wins with the prospect that Darnold would be the starting quarterback for the entire season.

O’Connell has proved he can get more out of his quarterbacks with Darnold leading a 13-win season with two weeks to go.

Entering Week 17, McCarthy appears to be the quarterback of the future moving forward. Darnold is poised to strike a lucrative multi-year deal elsewhere as the No. 1 free-agent quarterback in 2025.

Meanwhile, Jones is getting a crash course in the Vikings system to serve as the potential bridge veteran option, next year if he re-signs with the team in March.

With a playoff appearance in tow and the No. 1 seed in the NFC in sight, the case to move off Darnold after the season can seem ludicrous from an outside perspective.

While Minnesota drafted McCarthy to exploit the roster-building benefits of a rookie-scale starting quarterback, Darnold is flirting with a level of play worthy of splurging on.

NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” host Peter Schrager pitched that the Vikings should consider franchise-tagging Darnold and deferring the McCarthy plan another year.

“If I’m the Vikings I’m either signing [Darnold] and saying to JJ McCarthy, ‘Sorry. dude. It’s just what it is,’ “Schrager said. “Or, I’m going to franchise tag Darnold and say ‘Let’s run it back.’ ”

“I think a lot of people picked the Lions out of the NFC. The Packers were a sexy pick. Nobody – on any network, anywhere – had the @Vikings. This has been the story of the season in the NFC.” – @PSchrags

The Minnesota Vikings have recently been urged to consider trading their $160 million veteran quarterback to a NFC rival. With rumors swirling about potential changes to the Vikings’ roster, many believe that the team should explore the possibility of trading their high-priced quarterback to a rival team in the NFC.

This move could not only benefit the Vikings by freeing up cap space and potentially acquiring valuable draft picks or players in return, but it could also shake up the landscape of the NFC and create new rivalries within the conference.

While it remains to be seen if the Vikings will actually entertain the idea of trading their veteran quarterback, it is clear that there is interest from other teams in acquiring his services. Only time will tell if this move will come to fruition, but one thing is for certain: the NFC could be in for a major shakeup if this trade were to happen.

PlayStation Plus gamers urged to check out underrated open-world gem while they can

    Check out this open-world gem

PlayStation Plus subscribers need to check out this awesome open-world game that’s heavily underrated, but available to play now.

December’s PlayStation Plus line-up has delivered some pretty decent titles to close out 2024, and while they’re not all bangers some of them are well-worth your time.

Did you catch the reveal trailer for The Witcher 4? Check it out below

I’d say the best PlayStation Plus games are the ones you wouldn’t usually pick up with your own money, for fear of not enjoying it.

Sonic Frontiers is one such game, as it’s absolutely fantastic and I’d recommend it to anyone, but the Sonic franchise was in a dire state before it was released so it’s understandable if a lot of people slept on it.

The open-world adventure is now available as part of the PlayStation Plus Extra line-up though so now’s the best time to give it a go if you haven’t already.

Subscribers agree, and have been singing its praises since it was added to the service earlier this month.

Sonic Frontiers and Forspoken are exactly the 6/7 out of 10 games I would love to play but prefer not to spend money on. Big W month personally” said one fan.

“I’m here too. Been thinking any month now Forspoken would pop up and here we go. Sonic Frontiers sounds like fun too and I haven’t played a Sonic game since Adventure way back in ‘99” added another.

“Sonic is actually really good. Like at least 8/10 good” added one more, a fair summary as well as it needed a bit work but was otherwise very impressive for an open-world Sonic game.

Personally I’d recommend it to those who haven’t played a Sonic game in years, those who’ve kept up to date with the series, and those that haven’t played one before, it really has something for everyone.

California residents urged to avoid ocean as high surf pounds coastline | US weather

California residents are being warned to stay off wharves, piers and other waterside structures as 20-30ft waves are expected to batter the northern Pacific coast for the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service advisory comes after a 150ft section of the wharf in Santa Cruz collapsed amid high waves on Monday, and storm debris was blamed for the death of a Santa Cruz county man on a beach in Watsonville.

In southern California, the coast guard announced on Thursday morning that it had suspended a search for two men who were missing after a fishing trip off the coast of Palos Verdes, NBC Los Angeles reported. The wreckage of a boat believed to be theirs was discovered on Tuesday.

“Inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water due to life-threatening surf conditions,” the NWS warned in the Bay Area. “Never turn your back on the ocean.” The agency also warned of high surf and rip currents in the Los Angeles area.

In Santa Cruz, three city workers fell into the ocean but survived with only minor injuries when a large section of pier, including a restaurant that was closed, collapsed and floated away amid high surf on Monday.

Nearly 20 miles to the south, at Sunset State beach, California state parks and fire crews responded at around 11.30am on Monday about a man trapped under debris, a spokesperson for the Santa Cruz county sheriff’s office said. The man was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Around noon the same day, police responded to Marina state beach to reports of an adult male who had been “overcome by high surf and swept into the water”, the Marina police department posted on social media. Bystanders had attempted to rescue the man, but had been prevented by high waves and strong currents. As of Tuesday, the missing individual had not been located, police said.

“It’s total chaos,” Santa Cruz resident Bud Freitas told the Los Angeles Times, describing the impact of the waves. “I just did a drive through the south side of town and the beaches are all tore up. It looks like a bomb went off.”

With the recent high surf pounding the California coastline, residents are being urged to avoid the ocean for their safety. The US weather service has issued warnings about dangerous rip currents and large waves, making swimming and water activities extremely hazardous.

It is important for residents and visitors to exercise caution and stay out of the water during this time. The powerful waves and strong currents can pose a serious risk to swimmers, surfers, and boaters.

Authorities are advising people to stay away from jetties, piers, and rocky shores where waves can unexpectedly sweep people into the water. Beachgoers should also keep a safe distance from the shoreline and be mindful of their surroundings.

As the high surf continues to impact the California coastline, it is crucial for everyone to prioritize their safety and avoid unnecessary risks. Stay informed about the current weather conditions and follow any advisories or warnings issued by local authorities.

Let’s all do our part to stay safe and protect ourselves from the dangerous ocean conditions during this time.
