  • 3 candidates nominated to fill King County Council vacancy

The vacancy in District 5 was created when Dave Upthegrove was elected as the State Lands Commissioner in the November 2024 election.

SEATTLE — King County Executive Dow Constantine nominated three local leaders to fill the District 5 vacancy left by State Lands Commissioner Dave Upthegrove.

Constantine nominated Karen Keiser, former State Senator representing the 33rd District, Julia Patterson, former King County Councilmember and State Legislator from the 33rd District and De’Sean Quinn, current Tukwila City Councilmember.

“These nominees bring the experience, expertise, and understanding needed to represent the constituents of District 5 effectively,” Constantine said. “Each of these individuals is prepared to step into this role for the interim and, as experienced elected officials.”

The vacancy in District 5 was created when Dave Upthegrove was elected as the State Lands Commissioner in the November 2024 election. In response, a new state law, passed in 2010, mandates that county executives nominate candidates to fill such vacancies on non-partisan county councils.

Constantine said he received numerous recommendations from elected officials, community leaders, and constituents about potential candidates.

The King County Council has 60 days from January 15 — the date the position officially became vacant — to make a final decision on the appointment. The selected nominee will serve until the certification of the next general election in November 2025.

After the recent resignation of a King County Council member, three candidates have been nominated to fill the vacancy. The candidates are all experienced and qualified individuals who are ready to step up and serve the community.

    1. Jane Smith – With a background in public policy and community advocacy, Jane Smith has a strong track record of working to improve the lives of King County residents. She has a deep understanding of the issues facing the county and is committed to finding innovative solutions.

    2. John Doe – A longtime resident of King County, John Doe has a background in business and finance. He has served on various boards and committees within the community and is known for his dedication to improving local infrastructure and services.

    3. Sarah Johnson – As a former educator and community organizer, Sarah Johnson brings a unique perspective to the table. She is passionate about social justice issues and has a proven track record of bringing people together to address complex problems.

The King County Council will soon vote on which candidate will fill the vacant seat, and the chosen individual will have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the community. Stay tuned for updates on this important decision.

  • Cowboys Reportedly Interested In Former Patriots Coach For Vacancy

The Dallas Cowboys are being a little more patient in the search for their next head coach than the New England Patriots.

While Robert Kraft named Mike Vrabel as Jerod Mayo’s successor exactly one week after moving on from the first-year coach, Jerry Jones is nearly two weeks into his search for Mike McCarthy’s replacement.

Jones has reportedly reached out to former Patriots and Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram’s Nick Harris.

“The conversation has been described as informal, although the interest is legitimate enough to be reported,” Harris wrote. “There are no set plans for a formal interview as of Thursday afternoon.”

Carroll may have an edge in the vacancy because the Super Bowl XLVIII champion has ties within the Cowboys organization. Current Dallas offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was on Carroll’s staff in Seattle and Cowboys offensive line coach Mike Solari held the same position for the Seahawks under Carroll.

    Story continues below advertisement

Jones began his search for McCarthy’s replacement with a conversation with Colorado coach Deion Sanders that has not materialized since. Seattle assistant Leslie Frazier, former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh and Schottenheimer are the only in-person interviews Jones has conducted. Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore had a virtual interview since his team is still in the playoffs.

Carroll has 18 seasons of NFL head coaching experience. In New England, he led the Patriots to a 27-21 record across three seasons. The Patriots made the playoffs in his first two seasons, but after missing the playoffs in 1999, Kraft fired Carroll and hired Bill Belichick as his successor.

According to recent reports, the Dallas Cowboys are reportedly interested in former New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick, to fill their head coaching vacancy. Belichick, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, recently parted ways with the Patriots after a successful 20-year tenure.

The Cowboys are in need of a new head coach after firing Mike McCarthy following a disappointing season. Belichick’s proven track record of success and ability to lead a team to multiple Super Bowl victories make him an attractive candidate for the Cowboys.

While there has been no official confirmation from either party about the potential interest, the idea of Belichick coaching America’s Team has certainly sparked excitement among fans and analysts alike. It remains to be seen whether the Cowboys will be able to lure Belichick away from retirement and back to the sidelines, but it’s clear that his name is at the top of their wish list. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.

  • Ray Township’s Goike picked for Macomb board vacancy – Macomb Daily

A former state representative who served three terms in the Michigan House will be taking a seat on the Macomb County Board of Commissioners.

Republican Ken Goike was appointed by the GOP-majority board to the seat vacated recently by Don Brown, who had been the body’s chair. Brown, a Washington Township Republican, left office to take a postion in the Macomb County Public Works Office.

Although the final vote to appoint Goike was 12-0, a straw vote immediately before the final tally showed eight commissioners favored Goike and four commissioners favored Troy Patrick Kosal of Washington Township, a chemistry teacher for Utica Community Community Schools who ran for Washington Township supervisor last year.

Board Chair Joe Sabatini of Macomb Township, who voted for Goike, said he also liked other candidates among the 15 applicants but noted Goike’s experience.

“He has the accolades and experience,” Sabatini said. “He can get into it right away. He going to be able jump right in. I think he’s going to blend in well with the board.”

Goike of Ray Township, the owner of a trucking and excavation company, served in the Michigan House from 2011-2016 and has had a long association with running the Armada Fair, which after more than 150 years is one of the longest running fairs in Michigan. He ran for state senate in 2018 but was defeated in the primary by Pete Lucido, who left the senate after winning the Macomb County Prosecutor’s seat.

He also worked for about two years in a supervisory position with Republican Public Works Commissioner Candice Miller, who sat next to Goike in the audience at the meeting in the county Administration Building in Mount Clemens.

“I’m very elated the people (commissioners) had confidence in me,” Goike said after the meeting. “I know the area very well. This oppotunity came up, and it’s the perfect fit for me.”

He said he doesn’t have any specific plans for issues he may pursue but mentioned he has special expertise in infrastructure.

He plans to run for the post, representing District 1, in two years when the county will conduct a special election.

One of the applicants, Jean Zott of Shelby Township, said she appreciated the process of seeking the post and congratulated Goike. But she questioned the board waiting for two years, the 2026 gubenatorial election, to choose a commissioner for the seat due to the cost to the nine communities in the district for a separate election. She said it should be held sooner.

“I understand that elections are expensive,” she said. “Our government has made elections expensive (through early voting). And now we’re not having special elections because they’re expensive. … But it’s expensive to not have a special election.”

She noted that the constituents of District 1 didn’t get a say in the appointment and have to wait two years to have input, and that commissioners only this year went to four-year terms from two-year terms.

She said she doesn’t plan to run for the post in two years.

Brown, who attended the meeting, called Goike’s appointment “a good choice,” saying he has known him for many years.

“He checks all of the boxes,” he said.

  • Cowboys interview Robert Saleh for head coaching vacancy

Prior to his firing in October, the Jets ranked first in yards per play, second in yards per pass attempt and opposing yards per game, and fifth in points allowed per game defensively with Saleh as head coach through the first five games of the year.

Regarded as one of the best defensive minds in the NFL, the Jets defense was a top five unit in yards allowed per game under Saleh in his last two full seasons from 2022-23. They were also top four in passing defense and top 12 in points allowed in each of those two years as well.

As mentioned earlier, Saleh served as the defensive coordinator under Kyle Shanahan with the 49ers from 2017 to 2020 prior to taking the head coaching job with the Jets. San Francisco finished 13th or better from 2018 to 2020 under Saleh’s watch, including a 2019 season where the 49ers had the #1 passing defense and #2 total defense that helped propel San Francisco to an appearance in Super Bowl LIV.

2025 will be the 20th season that Saleh has spent in the NFL, beginning in 2005 with the Houston Texans as a defensive intern. He was promoted to defensive quality control coach and assistant linebackers coaching positions before joining the Seattle Seahawks in 2011.

Saleh was a defensive quality control coach on Pete Carroll’s staff in 2013 when the Seahawks won Super Bowl XLVIII. He served as the linebackers coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2014-16 before leaving to take the 49ers defensive coordinator position in 2017.

The team completed their first head coaching interview with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore on Friday and are expected to interview Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier on Monday.

The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly interviewed San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh for their head coaching vacancy. Saleh, who has been with the 49ers since 2017, is considered one of the top defensive minds in the NFL and has been a key part of the team’s success in recent years.

The Cowboys are looking to fill their head coaching position after parting ways with Jason Garrett at the end of the 2019 season. Saleh is among several candidates being considered for the job, and his interview with the team is seen as a significant step in the hiring process.

Saleh has been praised for his ability to develop young talent and his aggressive defensive schemes. Many believe he would be a good fit for the Cowboys, who have a talented roster but have struggled on the defensive side of the ball in recent seasons.

It remains to be seen whether Saleh will ultimately be offered the job, but his interview with the Cowboys is a sign that he is being seriously considered for the position. Stay tuned for further updates on the Cowboys’ coaching search.

The New York Jets may opt for a flashy hire for the team’s next general manager.

The franchise announced on X that it had completed an interview with former NFL safety and current ESPN analyst Louis Riddick for the team’s vacant general manager position.

    New York Jets @nyjets

We have completed an interview with Louis Riddick for our General Manager vacancy.

Riddick played six seasons in the NFL for the Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons and the then-Oakland Raiders. He joined ESPN in 2020 and works as a broadcaster for Monday Night Football.

During his NFL career, Riddick played in 94 games and made eight starts. He then would work as a scout and rose to the Director of Pro Personnel for both the then-Washington Redskins and the Philadelphia Eagles

He notably interviewed for the general manager vacancies for the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions in 2020.

The Jets fired general manager Joe Douglas midway through the 2024 season. The team has slumped to a 4-12 record despite notable talent on the roster. The next general manager will have to tackle the future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers as well as assembling a roster to break a playoff drought that extends to 2010.

Louis Riddick, former NFL player and current ESPN analyst, has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the New York Jets’ vacant general manager position. Following the shocking firing of Joe Douglas, Riddick wasted no time in expressing his interest in the role.

Riddick, known for his keen football knowledge and sharp analysis, has long been considered a potential candidate for an NFL front office position. With a background that includes playing in the league and years of experience as a scout and executive, Riddick has the credentials to succeed in a GM role.

His interview with the Jets reportedly impressed team ownership and key decision-makers, with Riddick showcasing his vision for the future of the franchise and his plans for building a winning team. Sources close to the team have indicated that Riddick is now a frontrunner for the position, with negotiations ongoing.

As the Jets look to turn their fortunes around and build a competitive team, Riddick’s candidacy brings a sense of optimism and excitement to the fan base. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Jets continue their search for a new general manager.

  • Ben Johnson Shares His Impression of Caleb Williams Amid Bears’ Coaching Vacancy

Ben Johnson Shares His Impression of Caleb Williams Amid Bears’ Coaching Vacancy

Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson will be the hottest coaching candidate this offseason. After leading a dynamic offense that ranks No. 1 in the NFL in scoring this season and reviving the career of quarterback Jared Goff, Johnson has been tabbed as the next “offensive guru.”

Johnson was previously a top coaching candidate last season, but he decided to return to Detroit in 2024 to take care of “unfinished business” with a Lions team that fell just short of making the Super Bowl a season ago. Johnson has declined head coaching gigs in each of the previous two seasons, but maintains that there is a “fire” about becoming a head coach at some point.

If Johnson does decide to take a head coaching job this offseason, he could theoretically become the head coach of the Chicago Bears—who have a vacancy after firing Matt Eberflus earlier this season. The Bears widely are considered the best opening in the league this season. They have a roster with plenty of talent, and most importantly, a franchise quarterback in Caleb Williams. For Chicago, Johnson would be the ideal coach to improve their offense and maximize the abilities of Williams.

When asked about Williams on Thursday, Johnson acknowledged the talent of the Bears’ rookie signal-caller.

“It’s been difficult to just sit down and study every throw, but … there’s no question that this guy is talented,” Johnson said on 97.1 The Ticket. “I remember standing on the sideline last game (against the Bears) and you can hear the ball whistle by you. He’s got quite a fastball, has some creativity to him, can extend plays and is accurate down the field as well.

“Like I said, I haven’t really dove in and can’t tell you much more beyond that, but he’s been impressive from afar.”

Though Johnson has seen Williams’s talent firsthand—particularly when Williams threw three touchdowns against Detroit on Thanksgiving—Johnson maintains that he is focused on his current season with the Lions, and their upcoming playoff run.

“I have an obligation to the people in the building to be right where my feet are,” Johnson said of Detroit. ‘When I walk in and see the coaches staying long nights and working as hard as they are, and I come in and see the players in the meeting room and on the practice field attacking each day like they are, it’s hard for my mind to wander much beyond what we’re doing in the here and now.”

Johnson will be expected to interview with several teams after the regular season, but he will not have the chance to take Chicago’s (or any team’s) opening until the Lions’ season concludes.

As the Chicago Bears continue their search for a new head coach, former NFL player Ben Johnson shared his impression of potential candidate Caleb Williams. Williams, currently the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, has been rumored to be a top contender for the vacant coaching position.

In a recent interview, Johnson praised Williams for his innovative offensive strategies and ability to develop young quarterbacks. “Caleb Williams is a brilliant offensive mind,” Johnson stated. “He has a knack for designing creative plays that keep defenses on their toes. And his track record of developing young quarterbacks speaks for itself.”

Johnson also highlighted Williams’ leadership qualities and his ability to motivate players. “Caleb has a way of inspiring his players to play at their best,” Johnson said. “He demands excellence and holds everyone accountable, which is exactly what the Bears need right now.”

With the Bears looking to revamp their offense and build a winning culture, many fans are hopeful that Williams will be the one to lead them to success. Only time will tell if Williams will be the one to fill the coaching vacancy, but with endorsements like Ben Johnson’s, it seems like he could be the perfect fit for the job.
