Tucker Carlson’s son Buckley is joining JD Vance’s staff
Buckley Carlson, a former Capitol Hill aide and the son of conservative media personality Tucker Carlson, is set to join Vice President JD Vance’s press office, sources tell ABC News.
The younger Carlson is set to serve as Vance’s deputy press secretary, sources said.
Buckley Carlson has worked as an aide on Capitol Hill since 2019, including most recently serving as deputy chief of staff to Republican Rep. Jim Banks.

He first joined Banks’ office in 2019 as a staff assistant before becoming communications director in 2021.
Earlier this month, Vance tapped several former employees to join his vice presidential staff in senior staff roles, including Jacob Reses, who is continuing to serve as his chief of staff.
Brian Gray, who served as Vance’s political director for his 2022 Senate campaign and state director for his Senate office, was tapped to be his deputy chief of staff.
Ben Moss will serve as Vance’s director of domestic policy after previously serving as Vance’s general counsel during his time in the Senate.

Andy Baker, a former foreign officer, was brought on to serve as Vance’s national security adviser.
Will Martin was made Vance’s communication director after previously serving as Vance’s communication director during his time in the Senate. Luke Schroeder, who previously served as press secretary for Vance’s Senate office, is now Vance’s deputy communications director. Both men also worked for Vance during the presidential campaign.
Taylor Van Kirk is Vance’s press secretary after previously working as the communications director for his 2022 Senate campaign and as his press secretary during the presidential campaign.
Vance’s director of operations is Abby Delahoyde, who previously held the same role under Vance when he was in the Senate. She also previously worked for Rep. Byron Donalds and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson.
Sean Cooksey, the former chair of the Federal Election Commission, also joined the vice president’s staff to serve as general counsel to Vance.

MADEIRA, Ohio — When it comes to important life events, being sworn in as the vice president of the United States probably tops most. With most of the country watching, JD Vance wanted to ensure he looked the part.
Luckily for him, his tailor, Romualdo Pelle, knows what he’s doing.
“My godfather, I was eight and a half, he said ‘Romualdo! I want to teach you what I do. I am a tailor and you’ve got good hands!’,” Pelle said.
Pelle has been sewing for more than eight decades. His hands are just as steady now at age 90 as they were when he was young.
“It’s a gift,” Pelle said.
Pelle grew up in Italy, serving in the Italian army in the 1950s. In 1960, he left his home country and moved to Cincinnati.
It was a decision that wasn’t easy. Pelle had to teach himself English.
“One guy from Italy, he sent me a book to translate English to Italian,” Pelle said. “I’ve still got the book.”
It wasn’t long before Pelle opened a tailor shop in 1968. He even remembers the exact date: July 29, 1968.
His store, appropriately named Romualdo, has sat off Miami Avenue in Madeira since then.

Pelle spends four days a week in the back of the store tailoring suits. Pelle’s life story is fascinating and he happily shares it with anyone who asks.
“He’s a character,” said Tim Brock, the co-owner of Romualdo. “I started working with Romauldo when I was 19 years old, and he’s pretty much like an adopted grandparent for me. It’s been a wild ride.”
Brock says Pelle still loves to teach others how to sew. He describes Pelle as a people person.
“He’s loud, he’s boisterous and loves talking to his clients,” Brock said.
Even at 90, Pelle’s life story continues to add unique chapters.
Three years ago, Pelle met Vice President-elect JD Vance. Pelle said he appreciated Vance’s genuine character.
“Very nice person to talk to, he understands,” Pelle said. “Very smart, I think. Very smart.”
Monday, Vance will be sworn in as the second most powerful man in the United States. He’ll do it wearing a suit made by Pelle.
“That’s pretty cool,” Pelle said. “I think it’s pretty cool.”
Pelle says Vance ordered four suits for the week of the inauguration.
Vance even wrote a note to Pelle, “For Romualdo — with admiration for your hard work and dedication. I will proudly wear your suit at the inauguration.”

For Pelle, tailoring isn’t a job he has to do, it’s a job he loves to do.
“It’s an honor for me, really, at my age that I can still serve people,” Pelle said.
He says he’ll continue doing it until he can’t anymore.
“I want to die over here, to tell you the truth,” Pelle said.

The announcement will end months of speculation and jockeying for the seat Vance held for just two years. DeWine, who is a former U.S. senator, has been tight-lipped about who might replace Vance in the Senate.
DeWine and other Republican governors met with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate earlier this month.

Wealthy Trump ally and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy was also floated as a possibility for the job. Trump tapped him to co-lead the “Department of Government Efficiency,” a new advisory body meant to tackle federal spending and waste. Ramaswamy has been largely quiet after he took to social media in December to criticize U.S. culture as venerating “mediocrity” and seemed to suggest Americans are lazy, prompting backlash.
“More movies like ‘Whiplash,’ fewer reruns of ‘Friends,’” Ramaswamy, 39, complained on X in December. “More math tutoring, fewer sleepovers. More weekend science competitions, fewer Saturday morning cartoons. More books, less TV. More creating, less ‘chillin.’ More extracurriculars, less ‘hanging out at the mall.’”
That didn’t go over well, with many other Trump allies and supporters criticizing Ramaswamy for his comments.
In Ohio, governors name senators to fill vacancies in the U.S. Senate until the next regular election. In this case, the special election will be November 2026, and the winner will remain in office until Vance’s term was to expire. He would have been up for reelection in 2028.
For seats in the House, the governor calls a special election. Ohio hasn’t had to fill a U.S. Senate vacancy since 1974.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine is expected to appoint his lieutenant governor, Jon Husted, to the Senate seat recently vacated by Vice President-elect JD Vance, two sources with knowledge of the decision told NBC News.
The sources, who were granted anonymity to share details of private discussions, said the announcement is scheduled to come at a 1 p.m. Friday news conference that DeWine has called at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
A spokesperson for DeWine declined to comment about the agenda for the news conference. A Husted spokesperson did not respond to a request for comment.
Husted, who would serve at least through a 2026 special election to fill the remaining two years of Vance’s term, had recently emerged as a leading contender. DeWine had said appointing someone who could win a competitive Republican primary next year was among his chief considerations.
The decision comes on the heels of Vance’s resignation and follows a meeting that DeWine and Husted had last month with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
Husted’s interest in succeeding DeWine as governor in 2026, and the possibility of Husted being endorsed by Trump, was a topic of conversation, two sources briefed on the meeting told NBC News. But Trump made no commitments to Husted on that race or on the Senate vacancy, these sources said.
The imminent Husted appointment follows a late push from biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, a close Trump ally who lives in the Columbus area.
Ramaswamy last fall took himself out of the running for the post after agreeing to lead the new Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. But he had signaled a change of heart recently and met with DeWine about the appointment.
Others who were in the mix to succeed Vance included former state GOP chair Jane Timken, state Treasurer Robert Sprague, Rep. Mike Carey and former state Rep. Jay Edwards.
Signal Ohio first reported that DeWine had settled on Husted.
Trump is a political force in Ohio, where he has won three times by comfortable margins. He and DeWine were on opposite sides of last year’s GOP primary for the state’s other Senate seat — a race in which DeWine backed a state lawmaker loathed by much of Trump world over Trump-endorsed businessman Bernie Moreno.
Moreno easily won the primary and went on to unseat Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown, who has not ruled out running in next year’s special election for Vance’s old seat.
DeWine and Husted have been allies since they ran together in 2018. Husted had plans to seek the governorship that year, as well, but he agreed to join DeWine’s ticket as lieutenant governor.
Despite their close relationship, Husted, 57, has tried to navigate his own path in the party. He endorsed Trump’s 2024 presidential bid hours before last year’s Iowa caucuses and has been close with Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy’s potential interest in the 2026 race for governor, combined with Trump’s reluctance to issue an early endorsement of Husted, likely factored into Husted’s decision on whether to accept DeWine’s Senate appointment. Other prominent Republicans, including Sprague and Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, also have been preparing campaigns for governor, threatening to further crowd the field.
