  • Golden Knights look to avenge loss against Blues in St. Louis – Las Vegas Sun News


    After the Blues on Monday handed them their fourth straight loss, the Vegas Golden Knights will get a chance for revenge at 5 p.m. today in St. Louis.

    Monday’s result was the closest the Golden Knights have come to victory in a week. They lost in a shootout, 5-4.

    Vegas trailed late, but goals from Jack Eichel and Pavel Dorofeyev pushed the game into overtime. Eichel missed a tap-in, game-winning goal, pushing the puck just wide, and Mark Stone shot the puck over the net on a breakaway.

    In the shootout, Eichel was the only player to score, as Victor Olofsson and Pavel Dorofeyev couldn’t find the back of the net.

    Vegas had every chance to win in extra time, but they couldn’t get the puck to bounce their way or came up a play short.

    Two positives that have come out of this losing stretch are Tomas Hertl and Dorofeyev.

    Hertl has 10 points in his last six games, including a three-point performance in a 5-3 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 18.

    Dorofeyev has nine points in his last five games, including his first career hat trick in a 5-3 loss to the Nashville Predators on Jan. 14.

    The injury bug is beginning to flare up again. Cole Schwindt will miss his second straight game due to a lower-body injury.

    On Thursday, it was announced that William Karlsson is week-to-week with a lower-body injury.

    Golden Knights coach Bruce Cassidy said at Tuesday’s practice that he’s unsure if Brett Howden will travel with the team this week due to illness.

    In response to injuries, the Golden Knights have called up Tanner Laczynski and Brendan Brisson from Henderson. This will be Brisson’s first NHL game since Oct. 30.

    The Golden Knights are at risk again of falling out of first place in the Pacific Division.

    The Edmonton Oilers, who are a point behind Vegas, play the Vancouver Canucks tonight. If the Golden Knights lose, the Oilers can take the divisional lead with a win.

  • Pokes, Rebels Meet Tonight in Las Vegas


    LARAMIE — The Wyoming Cowboys open a road swing with a trip to Las Vegas for a battle with UNLV on Tuesday evening in the Thomas & Mack Center.

    The contest is slated for a 9 p.m. MT start on CBS Sports Network with John Sadak on the call along with Tre Demps.

    Fans can listen to the contest, as well as follow stats on GoWyo.com. The game will be broadcast live on radio over the 26 affiliate stations of the Cowboy Sports Network, as Keith Kelly will be on the call alongside Kevin McKinney.

     

     

    About The Teams

    Wyoming heads into the contest with a 9-9 overall record and a 2-5 mark in conference play after falling at home to Colorado State on Saturday. Wyoming is shooting 45 percent from the field on the season with opponents shooting 44.4 percent.

    Wyoming is shooting 35.2 percent from behind the arc for fourth in the conference. The Pokes are grabbing 35 rebounds per game and are +3.3 on the glass this season.

    The Runnin’ Rebels are 11-7 on the season and 5-2 in the MW after downing No. 22 Utah State and San Diego State last week. UNLV is shooting 36.7 percent from behind the arc this season to rank second in the conference.

    The Runnin’ Rebels are averaging 71.7 points per game and are allowing 70.4 per night. UNLV is one of the top pressure teams in the MW averaging 6.7 steals per game for the season.

    The Cowboys are led by Obi Agbim at 18.8 points per game for second in the conference. He is shooting 46.2 percent from behind the arc to lead the league and rank sixth in the nation. Jordan Nesbitt added his sixth double-double of the season at Air Force to rank third in the MW and No. 41 in the nation.

    He adds 8.4 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per night to lead the team and rank fourth in the MW. Kobe Newton adds 8.3 points per game and has made 28 threes for the season.

    UNLV is led in scoring this season by Dedan Thomas Jr. at 15.8 points per game. He also leads the team with 81 assists on the season for 4.5 per game. Jaden Henley adds 11.5 points per game and Jailen Bedford adds 10.6 and is second on the team with 35 three-point makes. Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry leads the team with 5.3 rebounds per game.

    Watch for those “current circumstances,” music fans. They can take down a residency.

    Case in point, Black Eyed Peas has canceled its PH Live residency, which was scheduled to launch the night before Valentine’s Day. Instead, it was heartbreak from the band, which posted on Instagram Stories on Monday, “To our dearest Peabodies, It is with a heavy heart that, in light of current circumstances, our Las Vegas shows will not be moving forward as planned. Ticket providers will issue full refunds automatically. Stay tuned for updates on future performances by following us — we can’t wait to see you again.”

    Will.i.am, Apl.de.ap and Taboo are Black Eyed Peas listed lineup. Las Vegas guitar great George Pajon was also scheduled to return to the band.

    The show was reportedly suffering from soft tickets sales, which the band did not address. Dubbed “Black Eyed Peas: 3008 The Las Vegas Residency” the series was to run 15 dates, starting Feb. 15-22 and continuing through select dates in March and May.

    The band’s bow-out was the second significant shift in headliners’ schedules at PH live in four days. On Friday, Scorpions pushed their 60th-anniversary, five-show set to August, citing drummer Mikkey Dee’s ongoing health crisis brought on by sepsis. Those dates are on sale now.

    The Black Eyed Peas won’t be getting it started in Las Vegas anymore.

    On Sunday, Jan. 19, the multi-platinum supergroup announced on Instagram Stories that they would be canceling their Las Vegas residency due to “current circumstances.”

    “To our dearest Peabodies,” the statement began. “It is with a heavy heart that, in light of current circumstances, our Las Vegas shows will not be moving forward as planned.”

    They added: “Ticket providers will issue full refunds automatically. Stay tuned for updates on future performances by following us — we can’t wait to see you again.”

    In September 2024, the Black Eyed Peas announced their inaugural residency on the Las Vegas Strip.

    Called “Black Eyed Peas: 3008 The Las Vegas Residency,” the shows were scheduled to take place at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in February.

    “Our first residency in Las Vegas gives Black Eyed Peas the opportunity to do what we do best, to dream up something brand new and creative that pushes the boundaries of the live show experience,” Will.i.am said in a statement at the time.

    The hip-hop outfit was slated to perform 15 dates scattered through February, March and May.

    In addition to Will.i.am, Apple de Ap, Taboo and J. Rey Soul (who joined in 2018 after Fergie left the group), it was revealed that an artificial intelligence presence named “Vida” would be a new member of the band.

    “We predicted this in 2009 with ‘The E.N.D.’ album and the avatar personality in the video and the character on our album cover,” Will.i.am. told USA TODAY in September 2024. “When I was running around the projects as a kid in L.A. and Apple was running around in the Philippines, to think that we would have the first AI member of a globally recognized urban pop-hip-hop group … man.”

    He further explained that “Vida” would not be a “hologram.”

    “With a hologram, you have to experience it with a hologram projector, so you could only do that when the show is in Vegas,” Will.i.am, 49, told the publication. “When we have an AI member of the Black Eyed Peas, you can engage and communicate 24/7 … our member of the group will be patched into every band member, stage hands and the audience, if they want to engage with her.”

    Reps for the Black Eyed Peas have not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

    Blues Head Coach Jim Montgomery will split up his top line of Jake Neighbours, Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich on Monday when his club meets the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena (5 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network, 101 ESPN).

    The move comes after the Blues were unable to secure a three-game winning streak yet again on Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Utah Hockey Club.

    “(I’m) trying to get a workman-like attitude on every line,” Montgomery said of the decision to change things up. “Mixing it up sometimes creates a spark of ‘I individually have to do more, I’m not going to rely on the guy next to me.’ That’s all.”

    The new line combinations used in Sunday’s practice in Vegas had Thomas and Neighbours playing with Brandon Saad, who is expected to come back into the lineup after missing the last two games as a healthy scratch. Buchnevich was skating on the right wing alongside Alexey Toropchenko and Oskar Sundqvist – a line Montgomery used while shaking things up against Utah.

    The Dylan Holloway-Brayden Schenn-Jordan Kyrou line will remain together for Monday’s matchup.

    Montgomery is also making changes on defense. Cam Fowler and Colton Parayko will remain the team’s top pairing, but the bottom two pairs had changes in Sunday’s team practice. Ryan Suter and Philip Broberg were skating together, while Tyler Tucker and Justin Faulk were paired up.

  • Ruffin plans to sell Circus Circus, buy another Strip property – Las Vegas Sun News


    Billionaire Phil Ruffin is looking to sell Circus Circus and its prime real estate on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, he told Forbes in an interview published today.

    Ruffin bought the property for $825 million in late 2019, just over $1 billion in today’s money, and told the magazine it’s now worth $5 billion. He added that “there is interest” in the property.

    “It’s the best piece of land on the West Coast,” he said. “It’s got the highway, it’s got the Sahara, it’s got 2,000 feet on the Strip, and it’s the last Strip property. And 102 acres is just a massive amount of land — you can almost build a city on it.”

    Ruffin told Forbes he is looking to buy another property on the Strip once he sells Circus Circus but is open to ventures outside Nevada. 

    “Why do you think I bought Circus Circus? For the 102 acres,” he told the magazine. “That’s the land play. Remember what I did at the Frontier, how the value of the land went crazy — here it’s going crazier.”

    Ruffin bought the Frontier in 1998 for $167 million. A decade later, he sold it for about $2.1 billion, a nearly eleven-fold increase in value after adjusting for inflation. He also owns Treasure Island, which he bought in 2009 for $775 million. 

    The billionaire is close friends with President-elect Donald Trump, donating millions to his presidential campaigns and co-owning Trump Tower Las Vegas with him.

    Speaking to Forbes, Ruffin opined up on his conversations with the incoming president about foreign and domestic policy.

    “We did agree that something needs to be done with the Panama Canal,” Ruffin told Forbes. “I can’t imagine us giving away that canal for $1, as President Carter did. It is critical.”
