  • Arsenal make shock bid for Ollie Watkins: Aston Villa reject offer for star striker as Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his attacking force before the transfer window slams shut

Arsenal have launched a stunning swoop for Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a long-term admirer of the England international and the club have now moved for the 29-year-old.

It is understood Arsenal have made an initial offer for Watkins which has been rejected but an improved attempt is expected.

Watkins still has three years to run on his existing deal at Villa Park and is a key player for Unai Emery’s side.

However, a move to Arsenal may appeal to Watkins, who has admitted he grew up as an Arsenal fan.

Whilst playing for Brentford, the forward said in 2020: ‘That’s the dream, to play for Arsenal one day. But, you know, it’s a long shot.’

Nevertheless, Emirates chiefs have identified the forward as the man they believe can ignite their title challenge as they look to haul down Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

Villa, however, will believe they are in a strong position given Watkins’ contractual situation and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can successfully pull off what would be one of the most eye-catching transfers of the January window.

Watkins has scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for Villa this season, one of those coming in the recent 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Emirates.

In a surprising turn of events, Arsenal have made a shock bid for Aston Villa’s star striker Ollie Watkins. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attacking force before the transfer window slams shut, and have identified Watkins as a top target.

However, Aston Villa have swiftly rejected Arsenal’s offer for the talented forward, with manager Dean Smith determined to hold onto his key player. Watkins has been in impressive form for Villa since joining from Brentford last season, and has caught the eye of several top clubs with his performances.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen to add more firepower to his squad, and sees Watkins as a perfect fit for his attacking system. The Gunners have struggled for goals in recent seasons, and Arteta is hopeful that Watkins could provide the cutting edge they have been missing.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will make an improved offer for Watkins, or if they will turn their attention to other targets in the final days of the transfer window. But one thing is for sure – the Gunners are determined to strengthen their squad as they look to challenge for silverware this season.

  • Stunning Love Island bombshell Danielle Sellers set for feud with villa legend as she reveals she fancies her man

LOVE Island bombshell Danielle Sellers has set her sights on Ekin-Su’s man Curtis Prtichard ahead of her All Stars entrance.

Danielle, who made a play for Olivia’s villa partner Chris Hughes back in 2017, is used to coming between villa couples – and it looks like she’s about to do it all over again.

The blonde stunner has revealed that Curtis is in her top three.

Ahead of her villa return, Danielle said: “I like Scott, Luca and Curtis so I’ll be pulling them for chats.”

But she admitted things could get a little bit frosty between her and fiery actress Ekin-Su and said: “I already know Gabby and Elma and it’s going to be nice to meet Ekin-Su, though I’m not sure how she’ll react when I chat to Curtis?!”

She went on to say: “I was a lot younger going in the first time, I was 21! I entered during Casa Amor and lots of the boys were in strong couples! 8 years on, I’m older and know what I want, so I’m going to just go for it!

“I feel like I’m more confident in myself now, I’m more mature and I’ve grown up a lot since last time so I’ve learnt a lot.”

Danielle is a former Sun page three girl.

A source said: “Danielle is smoking hot and is the ideal age for Scott as he’s drifting apart from Tina after the explosive Vegas row with Luca.”

Back in 2017, we told how the blonde bombshell had been seeing I’m A Celeb star Jack.

This was despite him growing close to Made in Chelsea star Georgia “Toff” Toffolo while in the jungle.

Jack and Danielle dated for around seven months and were introduced by Jack’s pop star older brother Conor.

A source said: “Jack and Danielle had spent a lot of time together over the past seven months. They’d quietly attended industry events together and made no secret among pals of how close they were.

“Jack has been making it sound like he’s single since he’s been on the show but he’s been saying different things around Danielle.”

That year, she entered the Love Island villa on day 26 as a Casa Amor bombshell joined by Chyna Ellis, Ellisa-Jade White, Amelia Peters and Shannen McGrath.

Danielle caught the eye of Jonny Mitchell and he chose to recouple with her in the main villa.

However, her Love Island stint was very short as she was dumped three days later by Marcel Somerville, who was part of this year’s All Stars cast.

The 25-year-old model, who shot to fame on the hit reality show, has revealed that she has her eye on a certain villa legend’s man. With tensions already running high in the villa, this revelation is sure to cause fireworks.

Known for her killer looks and confident attitude, Danielle is no stranger to stirring up drama. And with her sights set on a villa heartthrob, things are about to get even more interesting.

  • Aston Villa v West Ham United: Premer League – live | Premier League

    Key events

    The teams!

The team sheets have been handed in, and here is the news. Ollie Watkins starts again, with Duran on the bench for Villa, with Leon Bailey and Lucas Digne the new faces from the team that drew with Arsenal. West Ham bring in Alphonse Areola in goal, and Vladimir Coufal and Carlos Soler out of goal.

Aston Villa: Martinez, Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne, Tielemans, Kamara, Bailey, Rogers, Ramsey, Watkins. Subs: Olsen, Zych, McGinn, Duran, Buendia, Garcia, Malen, Maatsen, Bogarde.
West Ham: Areola, Coufal, Kilman, Cresswell, Wan-Bissaka, Alvarez, Soler, Emerson Palmieri, Lucas Paqueta, Soucek, Kudus. Subs: Fabianski, Foderingham, Luis Guilherme, Ings, Rodriguez, Irving, Casey, Scarles, Orford.
    Referee: Peter Bankes.

    Hello world!

“Of course, West Ham, they are not being consistent, but they have now a new coach. Tactically, they are going to improve,” said Unai Emery on Friday. We’re about to find out how much improvement they’ve managed, but Villa have some improving to do: sure, they’re eighth in the table which is fine “(“The most important for us is the Premier League, and to be in the table’s top eight positions,” Emery added), and have lost only one of their last five league games, but away from home they’re not so hot: two wins and five defeats in their last eight in the league, which would put them 16th in a notional last-eight-away-from-home table (in mitigation, those fixtures included visits to Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Liverpool). Emery said their ambition was to “try to be consistent like we are at the moment at home”, where they would be sixth and unbeaten in a last-eight-games table.

Graham Potter also thinks West Ham are going to improve. “Our ambition is there – we want to get better. We want to move towards a style of play that our supporters recognise and are fond of,” he said at his press conference on Friday. “It has been nice to have a decent stretch of training. We have managed to do some good work, analyse the last game and prepare for Aston Villa, so I think we have used the time well. In every training session and after every message, I think the intention has been there.”

Aston Villa v West Ham: a test of Graham Potter’s coaching chops Photograph: Allstar Picture Library Ltd/Nigel French/Apl/Sportsphoto

This will be an ideal test of their improvement since Potter’s arrival, and what he’s managed to achieve with that decent stretch of training: these teams played here in the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago, a day after he was unveiled as Julen Lopategui’s replacement, and Villa won 2-1.

Since then West Ham have beaten Fulham 3-2 (in a game where they had four shots overall and only three on target) and lost 2-0 to Crystal Palace (in a game where they had four shots overall and none at all on target). For context, last season the average Premier League game featured 27.2 shots in total. Since Christmas West Ham have had a total of 11 shots on target across six games, while conceding 15 goals at the other end. It’s obvious where that improvement needs to be demonstrated. So, let’s see how they’ve got on, shall we?

  • Premier League Predictions, odds and best bets: West Ham to beat Aston Villa, favourites Fulham to defeat Man Utd | Football News

Our betting expert Jones Knows provides his insight as Aston Villa look vulnerable with a huge Champions League night on the horizon.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford, Sunday 2pm, live on Sky Sports

    Crystal Palace vs Brentford

Over the last five seasons, Crystal Palace have spent 439 days in either 12th or 13th place in the Premier League.

They are the definition of mid-table obscurity.

However, this team can dream a little higher than that under Oliver Glasner.

Palace have won 20 points since the November international break – only Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Liverpool and Chelsea have won more. Their structure without the ball is really impressive and hard to create chances against – and that is being drawn out in their defensive data. Palace are offering up just 1.15 expected goals per game in their last 11 Premier League games – that per-90 record is only bettered by Liverpool and Arsenal.

    Sunday 26th January 1:00pm

    Kick off 2:00pm

Meanwhile, Brentford have lost 17 of their last 24 Premier League away games, beating only Southampton, Luton, Bournemouth and Wolves on the road.

Palace on offer at 21/20 with Sky Bet for the win is a tasty proposition.

SCORE PREDICTION: 2-0 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: Crystal Palace to win (21/20 with Sky Bet)

    Tottenham vs Leicester, Sunday 2pm

Tottenham are bonkers. They make my brain hurt.

To suffer 12 defeats in 22 Premier League games but still to have beaten Liverpool, Man City, Man Utd and Aston Villa this season is borderline impossible to analyse. They sit 15th in the Premier League but have a +10 goal difference.

West Ham sit above them but have a -16 goal difference – someone make it make sense?

Leicester could be a big price here at 9/2 with Sky Bet but I don’t trust Ruud van Nistelrooy to come up with the right plan to beat Spurs.

The Foxes have conceded two or more goals in their last nine games to an average of 2.44 goals conceded per game as their style of football leaves their centre-backs woefully exposed.

although I don’t trust Spurs, I do have complete trust in Dejan Kulusevski, He’s got seven goals in his last 12 appearances, meaning the 2/1 with Sky Bet of him scoring has a great chance of landing.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 3-1

Aston Villa vs West Ham, Sunday 4.30pm, live on Sky Sports

    Aston VIlla vs West Ham

You just know even during this game Unai Emery will be on the touchline thinking how to beat Celtic on Wednesday night.

His mind will wander. European football takes prominence, that’s clear from his career in management.

    Kudus

This could be a half-baked version of Aston Villa and that’s a dangerous game to play against any opposition in the Premier League. We’ve seen iffy results and performances from Villa before a big Champions League night. The 2-2 with Ipswich, the 4-1 defeat at Spurs and they made hard work of beating Southampton 1-0 at home.

    Sunday 26th January 4:00pm

    Kick off 4:30pm

This makes their win price of 1/2 with Sky Bet look very short indeed, especially looking at the recent meeting between the two at Villa Park in the FA Cup where West Ham were the better side for large periods.

Yes, they have injuries but I’ve got hope that a week on the training pitch under the talented Graham Potter can spark a bit of improvement. If so, the 6/4 on West Ham on the double chance, to avoid defeat, could be a massive price.

SCORE PREDICTION: 1-2 | JONES KNOWS’ BEST BET: West Ham double chance (6/4 with Sky Bet)

Fulham vs Manchester United, Sunday 7pm

Fulham going off clear favourites to beat Manchester United in the Premier League is a little mind blowing to football fans like me who have lived through the dominance of the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Those days are long gone now and such has been their poor recruitment in recent years, where they’ve blown over £160m on Rasmus Hojlund, Joshua Zirkzee and Antony, the chance of a successful rebuild with the purse strings now tightened looks slim.

Fulham are the more cohesive, better coached, organised and confident team, playing some great stuff this season under the criminally underrated Marco Silva.

It’s why they are as short as 5/4 with Sky Bet for maximum points. A price many will snap up – and I can totally see why.

    SCORE PREDICTION: 2-1

Premier League Predictions, odds and best bets: West Ham to beat Aston Villa, favourites Fulham to defeat Man Utd

As the Premier League season heats up, fans and bettors alike are eagerly anticipating some exciting matchups this weekend. One of the standout fixtures sees West Ham take on Aston Villa, with the Hammers looking to continue their impressive form and secure a victory at home.

West Ham are currently sitting in fourth place in the table, with a strong defensive record and an attacking lineup led by the likes of Michail Antonio and Said Benrahma. Aston Villa, on the other hand, have struggled in recent weeks and will be looking to bounce back with a win.

The odds for this match are in favor of West Ham, with the Hammers priced as favorites to come out on top. With their strong form and home advantage, it’s easy to see why they are the bookies’ pick for this game.

In another exciting matchup, Fulham will be facing off against Manchester United. Despite being the underdogs, Fulham have been playing some impressive football recently and will be looking to cause an upset against the Red Devils.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have been inconsistent in recent weeks and will need to be at their best to secure a win against Fulham. The odds are in favor of United, but with Fulham’s recent form, this match could go either way.

For those looking to place a bet on these matches, our best bet would be to back West Ham to beat Aston Villa and Fulham to defeat Manchester United. With the odds in their favor and strong performances in recent weeks, both teams have a good chance of coming out on top in their respective matchups.

As always, remember to gamble responsibly and only bet what you can afford to lose. Good luck to all the teams and bettors this weekend!

  • ‘We want to get back to those levels’ – Taylor hopes Manchester City set standards at Aston Villa

‘We want to get back to those levels’ – Taylor hopes Manchester City set standards at Aston Villa

‘We want to get back to those levels’ – Taylor hopes Manchester City set standards at Aston Villa

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor is hoping to see his side get back to their best when they travel to Villa Park to take on Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon.

The Cityzens go into the match having lost back-to-back matches in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Manchester City have not been at their absolute sharpest in the last couple of league games.

When speaking to the media ahead of the trip to Aston Villa, Taylor reflected on the performance in the reverse fixture. Manchester City performed well in a 2-1 win and Taylor wants to see his side get back to having more control of games.

“They’ve got a new manager in place now but Shaun [Goater] will still take the team,” Taylor said. “It’ll be really good to see him first and foremost and in terms of what we’ve seen, he’s slightly changed things from what Robert [de Pauw] was doing previously.

“If I go back to that game [against Aston Villa at home], I thought we were excellent. The amount of control that we had in that game, we limited Villa to very little; we conceded from one of the few attacks that they had, I thought the team were outstanding that day. Lauren Hemp played a big part and Jill Roord with her goal.

“It was very similar to the Liverpool game at Anfield where sometimes, when you turn those games around, you’re so satisfied with the performance, the levels and the control you have, Of course, we want to try and do that again. We want to get back to those levels and the standards that we set earlier in the season.”

Opponents Aston Villa are four games unbeaten under the leadership of caretaker Shaun Goater. Taylor has not been surprised by The Villans’ improved form under Goater.

He said “I’m not surprised because Shaun cares a lot. First and foremost, he’s a great guy, an old teammate and he’s probably taken a few things with him from us which is really good. You can kind of see some similarities; they play with one deep midfielder now rather than two which is similar to how we do things.

“It’ll be really good to see him. We are both competitive and that’s not changed. It’ll certainly be the same at the weekend where we are both going at it, trying to win the game for our respective teams.”

Taylor says that he will sit down and chat with Goater about the game but the talking is likely to be done post-match.

He said “I think we will speak afterwards out of respect because it’ll be a cagey conversation I can assure you. We have spoken on a few occasions since he’s taken the role on an interim basis. It’ll be radio silence until we see each other.”

Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12pm on Saturday afternoon.

After Manchester City’s dominant 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, midfielder Taylor expressed his hopes for his team to set high standards at the club. “We want to get back to those levels,” Taylor stated, emphasizing the importance of maintaining consistency and excellence in their performance. With City’s impressive display against Villa, Taylor believes that the team has the potential to establish themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the league. Stay tuned as City continues their quest for success this season. #ManchesterCity #AstonVilla #PremierLeague #Taylor #Standards

  • Aston Villa news: Opinion – ‘Unai Emery gently raising sights in Champions League’

“Protagonist: the main figure, or one of the most prominent figures in a situation,” says the dictionary. It is a word Unai Emery has taken to using a lot.

“We are very motivated playing Champions League,” he said on Monday, after Villa arrived in Monaco. “For me, it’s very special, and I am transmitting it to the players as well, trying to feel it, to play Europe… We want to compete and try to be a protagonist in this competition.”

In his quiet way, Emery is gently raising Aston Villa’s sights in the Champions League, just as he did in the Premier League after taking over in November 2022.

First, he stabilised them, banishing fears of relegation, but then he was among the first to talk up the possibility of a run for Europe. Last season, he was more measured at first, but as the possibility of a top-four finish took form, Emery talked them up without ever suggesting over-confidence.

So it has been with this campaign: first talking of being competitive, then of trying to qualify, and now of finishing in the top section of the grand table.

Generating enough confidence in your players so they believe they can achieve great things, without over-inflating them, is an art.

Ezri Konsa, one of those whose career has pushed forward under Emery, testifies that it works.

“He’s put so much confidence into us. Going into every game we believed we were going to win, no matter who we were up against,” the defender said of their Champions League run so far.

    “So I wouldn’t say it’s a surprise. We’re a good team, and I think we’ve proved it.”

Many Villa fans I have spoken to on this trip seem on one level amazed that the top eight is such a real possibility now, but also feel their team entirely deserves it.

“Maybe 17 is the points we need,” says Emery, and a draw here and a win over Celtic next week would take them to that. But, in his now established way with Villa, Emery challenges his team to aim higher.

“Our opportunity – and our objective – is to try to get 19 points, because with 19 points, for sure we will be there.”

Listen to full commentary of Monaco v Aston Villa at 17:45 GMT on Tuesday on BBC Radio WM

Aston Villa news: Opinion – ‘Unai Emery gently raising sights in Champions League’

Unai Emery has been quietly but effectively guiding Aston Villa to new heights in the Champions League. The Spanish manager has brought a sense of belief and confidence to the team, which has seen them perform admirably in the toughest competition in European football.

Emery’s tactical acumen and ability to motivate his players have been key factors in Aston Villa’s success in the Champions League. His meticulous planning and attention to detail have paid off, with the team showing great resilience and determination in their matches.

Despite facing some of the top teams in Europe, Aston Villa have held their own and even managed to secure some impressive results. Emery’s emphasis on a solid defensive structure and quick, incisive attacks has seen the team become a formidable force in the competition.

As the knockout stages approach, Aston Villa fans can dare to dream of a deep run in the Champions League under Emery’s guidance. The manager’s experience in the competition and his knack for getting the best out of his players make him a valuable asset to the team.

With Unai Emery at the helm, Aston Villa are slowly but surely raising their sights in the Champions League. The team’s progress under his stewardship is a testament to his leadership and tactical nous, and fans can look forward to more exciting performances in the competition.

  • Monaco vs Aston Villa Prediction, Odds and Picks

Aston Villa have just 2 games left in the League Phase of the Champions League and they’re on course to secure a place in the Last 16. Unai Emery has shown his European expertize with the Villans picking up 13 points from their first 6 games, putting them 5th in the 36-team standings. Liverpool and Barcelona are the only 2 teams to have secured more points than Villa in the competition. Emery’s team is looking to secure a top-8 finish and bypass the first knockout round, which would be a huge boost given how tough they’ve found juggling this competition with their EPL games.

Monaco also made a great start to their Champions League campaign, taking 10 points from their first 4 matches. However, consecutive defeats have left Monaco 16th, pushing them out of the race for a top-8  finish. The hosts have lost 3-2 at home to Benfica and 3-0 to Arsenal, suggesting they will struggle to deal with a Villa team that has adjusted well in their return to Europe’s top competition. The visitors won 3-2 at RB Leipzig in their last European game, with that coming in a 9-match stretch where over 2.5 goals has landed 8 times. Hosts Monaco have scored at least twice in 8 of their last 10 at home, while 5 of their 6 European games have featured 3 or more goals. Of the 24 teams on course to make the next round, only Dinamo Zagreb and Feyenoord have conceded more goals than Monaco. Expect another high-scoring game here.

Monaco vs Aston Villa Prediction, Odds and Picks

Monaco will face off against Aston Villa in a highly anticipated friendly match. Both teams will be looking to showcase their talents and prepare for the upcoming season with a strong performance.

Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season, will be hoping to continue their good form and start the new campaign on a high. With a talented squad including the likes of Wissam Ben Yedder and Kevin Volland, Monaco will be a tough opponent for Aston Villa.

On the other hand, Aston Villa will be looking to build on their impressive 11th place finish in the Premier League last season. With new signings such as Emiliano Buendia and Danny Ings, Aston Villa will be aiming to challenge for a European spot this season.

In terms of odds, Monaco are slight favorites with bookmakers offering odds of 2.00 for a Monaco win, while Aston Villa are priced at 3.00 for a victory. A draw is priced at 3.50.

Our pick for this match is a Monaco win. With their strong squad and home advantage, we believe Monaco will come out on top in this friendly match. However, Aston Villa are a talented team and could potentially cause an upset.

    Prediction: Monaco 2-1 Aston Villa
