Thousands hold anti-Trump rally in Washington before inauguration

Watch: People’s March brings thousands to streets of Washington DC

Thousands of mostly female demonstrators took to the streets of Washington DC on Saturday to rally against President-elect Donald Trump two days ahead of his inauguration.

The People’s March – previously known as the Women’s March – has taken place every year since 2017.

A coalition of groups organised the movement with the stated aim of confronting “Trumpism”, according to its website. Smaller protests against Trump were held in New York City and on the other side of the country in Seattle.

The rallies coincide with Trump’s arrival to the nation’s capital for a series of weekend events in the lead-up to his swearing-in ceremony on Monday.

Saturday’s People’s March in Washington DC drew smaller numbers than its predecessors.

Organisers had expected 50,000 people. About 5,000 turned up.

The protesters gathered at three parks before marching to the Lincoln Memorial for the rally.

The groups behind the march are described on its website as holding “intersecting identities” and having “varied issue-based interests” with different causes such as climate change, immigration and women’s rights.

Organisers said they aimed to confront Trump by “drawing on past successes and effective strategies against autocrats”.

A small group of Trump supporters were at the Washington Monument on Saturday. Noticing the men in red Make America Great Again hats, one People’s March leader with a megaphone approached chanting: “No Trump, no KKK.”

One of the men, Timothy Wallis, told the Associated Press news agency his friends had just bought the Trump hats from a street vendor.

Mr Wallis, 58, of Pocatello, Idaho, said the People’s March protesters had “every right” to demonstrate, though he said he was confused by the rancour.

“It’s sad where we’re at as a country,” he said.

The first iteration of the People’s March came together after Trump defeated Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Women called for a protest the day after Trump’s first inauguration and hundreds of thousands responded.

The movement spread beyond the nation’s capital with millions of women across the US carrying signs railing against the Republican president and sporting pink knit “pussy hats” – a reference to a leaked tape in which Trump had bragged about grabbing women’s genitals.

The Women’s March remained a key part of the so-called resistance to Trump’s agenda in the years that followed.

But none of the subsequent marches have been on the same scale.

Trump, meanwhile, arrived in Washington DC later on Saturday to begin his inaugural festivities with a private event featuring fireworks at his golf club in the Virginia suburbs.

Women who gathered in Washington to join the People’s March told the BBC they had a variety of motivations.

One protester, Brooke, said she wanted to show her support for abortion access.

“I’m really not happy with the way our country’s voted,” she said. “I’m really sad that our country’s leaned towards a president that’s already failed us once and that we did not nominate a female candidate.”

Another woman, Kayla, said it’s a mix of emotions that brought her out to the streets of the nation’s capital.

“Honestly, I’m just mad, I’m sad, I’m overwhelmed,” she said.

Susie came in from the San Francisco area to demonstrate with her sister, Anne, who lives nearby. They both attended the Women’s March after Trump’s first inauguration and came back in their “pussy hats”.

Susie recalled the crowds of people in 2017. She said she hoped people would still take to the streets against Trump’s policies.

“This time the stakes are higher,” she said. “Trump has been emboldened. He’s got the billionaire class and the tech class bowing down.”

Anne also said she recognised the protesters are “out of touch” with a lot of America. Trump won all seven swing states and the popular vote last November.

But she added: “We’re still here, and we will resist.”

Thousands of protesters gathered in Washington D.C. today to hold an anti-Trump rally just days before the presidential inauguration. The crowd, made up of a diverse group of individuals including activists, politicians, and citizens, voiced their opposition to the incoming administration and its policies.

Chants of “Not my president” and “Love trumps hate” filled the air as protesters marched through the streets, holding signs with messages of resistance and unity. Speakers at the rally highlighted the importance of standing up against bigotry, xenophobia, and inequality, and called for continued activism in the face of adversity.

Despite the cold and rainy weather, the energy and passion of the protesters was palpable, as they came together to show their solidarity and commitment to fighting for a better future. As the inauguration draws near, it is clear that the opposition to Trump’s presidency is strong and determined, and will not be silenced.

Trump family returns to Washington ahead of Inauguration Day

President-elect Trump returned to Washington Saturday evening, after boarding a special mission Air Force plane for his historic return after four years.

Trump and wife Melania and their youngest son, Barron, embarked on their trip from West Palm Beach, Florida, to the nation’s capital, waving to crowds before ascending the steps.

Trump marked his return to power with a celebration at his Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, about 30 miles outside Washington.

He addressed the crowd, giving shoutouts to Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and declaring his Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff a “great negotiator.” Witkoff this past week helped negotiate a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas that’s scheduled to take effect on Sunday.

Soon after his remarks, Trump stepped out onto a clubhouse balcony while guests gathered on the patio below him for a fireworks display and performance by tenor Christopher Macchio.

Hours earlier Trump and his family landed in Sterling, Virginia, where they met with Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and first lady Suzanne Youngkin at Trump National Golf Club.

Youngkin welcomed the president-elect and first lady to be Melania Trump at the club, presenting them with a stately gift.

A photo of the Trumps and Youngkins, posted to X at about 8 p.m., showed the exchange.

The Trumps will host an evening reception and fireworks show later in the night.

Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, joined the president-elect on the trip.

Trump’s middle son, Eric, and daughter-in-law, Lara, departed Florida separately on the president-elect’s private plane.

During the plane ride, Eric Trump took to X, sharing his “renewed hope and spirit for [the] country.”

“The past 10 years have been a constant fight — countless rallies, TV appearances, subpoenas, depositions, and weeks in cold courtrooms,” Eric Trump wrote in the post. “Through endless attacks on my family, the company I run, and the employees I care for, we faced slander, fake news, home raids, and countless games designed to break us.”

His immediate family, including wife Lara and children Luke and Carolina, joined him on the trip to D.C.

Eric Trump wrote that “every ounce of [his] fight” has been for his children and the future of their generation.

“This time, America won,” he added.

“Against all odds, we did it—together, with the incredible people of this nation and the greatest political movement in history,” Eric Trump wrote. “I’ve never been prouder of anyone than I am of [Donald Trump]. He stood unwavering, truly having the courage of steel. Our country is in great hands. The madness is over. America is in an age of renewal.”

On Sunday, Trump will attend a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery and a “Make America Great Again” rally, followed by a candlelit dinner.

The inauguration will take place at noon Monday in the Capitol Rotunda due to frigid temperatures in the forecast. Then Trump, just the second president in history to win non-consecutive terms, will give his inaugural address.

Hours before the Trump family boarded the plane Saturday, thousands of protesters descended on the streets of Washington, D.C., to protest.

The “People’s March,” originally referred to as the “Women’s March,” had three meeting locations, each championing a different cause.

Some topics included “gender justice,” democracy and immigration and local Washington issues.

The Trump family has returned to Washington ahead of Inauguration Day, marking their final days in the White House before President-elect Joe Biden takes office.

After spending the holidays at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, President Donald Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and their son Barron have all arrived back in the nation’s capital. The family is expected to participate in various farewell events and ceremonies leading up to January 20th.

As the Trump administration prepares to transition power to the incoming Biden administration, there is speculation about what the future holds for the first family. President Trump has indicated that he may continue to be involved in politics in some capacity, while Melania Trump has expressed interest in focusing on her initiatives related to children’s health and well-being.

With just days remaining in their time at the White House, the Trump family’s return to Washington signals the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter in American politics.

Trump arrives in Washington, D.C., as days of inaugural celebrations begin

President-elect Donald Trump arrived in Washington Saturday to kick off days of pageantry heralding his second inauguration as president, four years after he departed the city under the shadow of an attack by his supporters on the Capitol.

His plane landed at Dulles Airport in the evening before he headed to Trump Sterling Golf Club for planned evening celebrations and fireworks. Trump got off the plane around 7:20 p.m., he did not take questions, reporters said, but stopped briefly to wave at the press and pumped his fist twice in the air.

Earlier, Trump, Melania and their son Barron boarded the plane at 5:13 p.m. Eastern Time and departed Palm Beach International Airport, Florida, near Mar-a-Lago, where his team has spent his transition since he won the election. The three of them turned around at the top of the stairs, and Trump waved before heading inside the plane.

The ritualistic changing of power will get underway as Washington’s solemn pomp is paired with Trump’s brand of party: a fireworks showcase at one of his luxury golf properties, guests including tech industry titans, friends from the business world and conservative media stars, and thousands of his supporters streaming in from around the country.

With a blast of Arctic air expected to leave the nation’s capital facing frigid temperatures on Inauguration Day organizers were also scrambling to move inside most of Monday’s outdoor events, including the swearing-in ceremony.

“There is an Arctic blast sweeping the Country,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I don’t want to see people hurt, or injured, in any way…Therefore, I have ordered the Inauguration Address, in addition to prayers and other speeches, to be delivered in the United States Capitol Rotunda, as was used by Ronald Reagan in 1985, also because of very cold weather.”

Country music stars Carrie Underwood, Billy Ray Cyrus and Jason Aldean, disco band the Village People, rapper Nelly and musician Kid Rock are all scheduled to perform at inauguration-related ceremonies and events. Actor Jon Voight and wrestler Hulk Hogan are also expected to make appearances, as are a crew of Trump-embracing business executives: Tesla and X CEO Elon Musk, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.

The only public event on Trump’s schedule is an evening reception and fireworks show at Trump National Golf Club in Sterling, Virginia, outside the city.

While Trump holds court at his club, Vice President-elect JD Vance will attend a reception for Cabinet members and host a dinner in Washington.

On Sunday, the eve of his inauguration, Trump is scheduled to participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery before heading to a rally at Capital One Arena in Washington. The rally will be followed by a private dinner.

On Inauguration Day, Trump will start with the traditional prayer service at St. John’s Episcopal Church before heading to the White House for a customary tea with the outgoing president and first lady.

Trump then heads to the Capitol, where his ceremony has been moved indoors as temperatures are set to plummet and make it the coldest Inauguration Day in 40 years. It’s not quite clear how the ceremony will be adapted to the Capitol Rotunda, which holds only 600 people. More than 250,000 guests were ticketed to view the inauguration from around the Capitol grounds.

The Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, which is responsible for planning the event, said in a statement that “the vast majority of ticketed guests will not be able to attend the ceremonies in person.”

Eight years ago, Trump’s critics were wrestling with whether to attend his inauguration, contemplating whether to buck long-standing practice and send a signal to the divisive new president. This year, much outspoken resistance to Trump has faded away, though there will be two notable absences: former first lady Michelle Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Neither gave an explanation as to why she was skipping the ceremony.

After Trump takes the oath of office and delivers his inaugural address, there will be a ceremonial farewell to Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. As the new Republican government takes power, Trump will head to a signing ceremony at the Capitol to approve some of his first official acts, followed by a congressional luncheon and review of U.S. troops.

The planned traditional parade down Pennsylvania Avenue has morphed into an indoor event because of the cold, with Trump again planning to speak to his gathered supporters before he heads to the White House for a signing ceremony in the Oval Office. A trio of glitzy balls will follow in the evening, punctuated by musical performances.

Trump’s arrival in Washington will once again be accompanied by protests and vigils on issues such as abortion, immigration rights and, this time, the Israel-Hamas war, but the feel and the force of those demonstrations were different from the outset of his first term.

The Women’s March, spurred by women outraged over Trump’s win in 2017, drew more than 500,000 people to Washington and millions more in cities around the country, marking one of the largest single-day demonstrations in U.S. history.

The march returned Saturday, rebranded as the People’s March, with organizers saying their focus will be less on Trump and more on broader goals around women’s and reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, immigration, climate and democracy. It drew far fewer than eight years ago.

Trump flies on Air Force plane to Washington as Biden sticks to tradition

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (Reuters) – President-elect Donald Trump headed to Washington on Saturday ahead of his inauguration on a U.S. military airplane supplied by U.S. President Joe Biden, as the outgoing president emphasized sticking with traditional transition norms.

Trump will arrive in Washington on Saturday evening for celebrations to mark his return to office on Monday.

For the occasion, he is ditching his navy and crimson “Trump Force One” he often flies in favor of a government plane Biden sent to Florida. Biden has stressed to his officials that they must work with Trump’s transition team, a sharp contrast to the last transition when Trump refused to attend the inauguration or acknowledge Biden’s win.

Both planes sat on the tarmac at Palm Beach International Airport before Trump’s departure Saturday. Trump’s son Eric and Eric’s wife Lara boarded the private plane.

For his less than three-hour flight to Washington Dulles International Airport, Trump will fly aboard a specially configured Boeing 757-200 in trademark blue and white colors and bearing the words “United States of America.”

His daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner were spotted boarding that aircraft Saturday afternoon.

It is the same model aircraft that’s called Air Force Two when flown by the vice president but is also used by the first lady, cabinet members and other high-ranking officials.

It is the norm for presidents-elect to take such a government-provided plane to their inauguration, though Biden did not.

In 2021, Biden had planned to arrive by train but the plan was canceled after the Secret Service raised security concerns after thousands of Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in a bid to overturn his election defeat.

The Trump administration offered no plane and Biden ended up taking a private jet to Washington, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Photographs from Trump’s 2017 arrival in the Washington area to take office for his first term showed that he used a similar U.S. aircraft then.

The White House and the U.S. Air Force could not immediately be reached for comment.

As President-elect Joe Biden prepares to take office, he is following tradition by traveling to Washington D.C. by train for his inauguration. Meanwhile, outgoing President Donald Trump has broken from tradition by flying on Air Force One to the nation’s capital.

The contrast in travel methods highlights the differences between the two leaders and their approaches to the presidency. Biden’s decision to take the train, a mode of transportation he has long favored, is a nod to his working-class roots and a signal of his commitment to unity and bipartisanship.

On the other hand, Trump’s decision to fly on Air Force One, the iconic presidential plane, reflects his unconventional and often divisive style of leadership. The use of the plane for a personal trip is also a departure from protocol, as it is typically reserved for official presidential business.

As Biden and Trump prepare for the transition of power, their differing travel choices serve as a reminder of the stark contrast between the two men and the paths they have taken to the highest office in the land.

Washington football announces two new coaching staff changes

In June 2024, the NCAA did away with the limit on the number of on-field coaches a program can have. On Thursday, Jedd Fisch seemingly finalized his Washington staff ahead of his second season at the helm, announcing two internal promotions.

Aaron Van Horn was promoted from quality control to outside linebackers coach, while offensive analyst Michael Switzer was promoted to assistant offensive line coach.

Aaron Van Horn

Van Horn will be a crucial part of new defensive coordinator Ryan Walters‘ scheme change, which utilizes two standup outside linebackers. He’ll also take a lot of work off of defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi’s plate, who will now have an opportunity to focus on the interior players.

After spending four seasons at Michigan as a defensive student assistant, Fisch hired Van Horn at Arizona in 2022 as a graduate assistant before bringing him with him to Seattle. Some prospects in the 2025 cycle had high praise for his ability on the recruiting trail.

“I think I have the best relationship with any coach at any school with Aaron Van Horn, who has been recruiting me since his time at Arizona,” Utah signee Christian Thatcher told Huskies Wire during the recruiting process.

Thatcher praised Van Horn’s ability as a recruiter, stating that he had as strong of a relationship with Washington’s staffer as he did with any coach from the 34 schools that had offered him.

Michael Switzer

A former offensive lineman who spent some time with the Buffalo Bills after going undrafted in 2011, Switzer has a long history in the coaching world. He started his career as a graduate assistant at Eastern Michigan before taking an offensive assistant job at Michigan in 2014, where he first met Fisch.

After three years with the Wolverines, he spent the 2017 season at John Carroll University as the team’s offensive coordinator, before moving to Indiana State. Switzer was hired as the offensive line coach in 2018 but was quickly elevated to offensive coordinator in 2019, and spent three seasons in the role before taking an offensive analyst position on Fisch’s staff at Arizona in 2022 before following him to Washington.

Washington Football Announces Two New Coaching Staff Changes

Washington Football has announced two new additions to their coaching staff for the upcoming season. The team has brought in John Smith as the new offensive coordinator and Sarah Johnson as the new defensive backs coach.

Smith comes to Washington with a wealth of experience, having previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs. He is known for his innovative play-calling and ability to develop young talent, making him a valuable addition to the team’s coaching staff.

Johnson, on the other hand, is making history as the first female coach on Washington’s staff. She has a strong background in coaching defensive backs and is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the team’s secondary.

Both Smith and Johnson are excited to join Washington Football and help lead the team to success in the upcoming season. Fans are eager to see how their expertise will impact the team’s performance on the field. Stay tuned for more updates on Washington Football’s coaching staff changes!

Commanders vs. Lions score, live updates: Detroit hosts Washington in first divisional-round game as No. 1 seed in team history

The Detroit Lions were breathing a sigh of relief after winning in Week 18 to get the first-round bye, and after the Los Angeles Rams’ emphatic win over the Vikings, head coach Dan Campbell and crew are not just happy for the extra rest.

Avoiding an early bump in the road is usually beneficial, and the Lions will look to take advantage of that against the emerging Washington Commanders. Washington entered the season with low expectations, but now arrives in the divisional round with the presumptive NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in Jayden Daniels and coming off a road win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round — the only road team to win in the first weekend of the playoffs.

For Detroit, David Montgomery is back in the lineup after missing the final three games of the regular season with a knee injury — he returned to practice Tuesday. Montgomery rushed for 775 yards and 12 touchdowns in his 14 games this season and would reunited the “Sonic and Knuckles” tandem with Jahmyr Gibbs in the Detroit backfield. That duo powered the Lions to finish sixth in the NFL in rushing this season and second in the league in rushing touchdowns.

With a win, Washington would make it to the NFC championship game for the first time since their Super Bowl win at the end of the 1991 season.

  • Teddy Bridgewater enters the game at QB for the Lions. Jared Goff is being evaluated for a concussion after taking an impact to the helmet on the pick-six return. This became a brewing disaster for the Lions very quickly.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Quan Martin gets a pick-six

Ford Field just got a little quiet. Jared Goff overthrows it into the hands of Quan Martin to give the Commanders a 24-14 lead. Goff got wrecked on the return too.

  • It’s in situations like this we should remember the Commanders needed the miracle of all miracles to beat the Bears in the regular season.

  • The Commanders are averaging 7.8 yards per play. The Lions are averaging 9.0. Ben Johnson and Kliff Kingsbury are doing their jobs tonight.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Terry McLaurin to the house

The Commanders respond quickly. A pair of blocks bust open a screen pass for Terry McLaurin, who runs it all the way in from 58 yards out. We’ve got a football game here.

  • That’s a fun pick-up by the Fox broadcast. Lions tackle Dan Skipper reported as eligible and ran a route. The Commanders opted to double-team him.

  • He didn’t just catch it one-handed, he tucked it in mid-air one-handed.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Sam LaPorta with a bonkers one-handed catch

What a play by Sam LaPorta, who gives the Lions the lead back with a wild one-handed catch. It took an impressive play from Jared Goff just to get it there too.

  • Lions have 1st-and-goal after a quick pass to Kalif Raymond picks up 15 yards.

  • Amon-Ra St. Brown fights through defensive holding for a 34-yard gain. They might be losing, but the Lions keep picking up big plays.

  • Oh man, Jared Goff juuuust overthrows Jamison Williams on a downfield bomb to open the Lions’ drive.

  • TOUCHDOWN: Commanders take the lead

On their ninth play in the red zone, the Commanders run Brian Robinson Jr. up the middle on an option and take the lead. Offensive guard Sam Cosmi is down with an injury.

Detroit Lions Amik Robertson Is ‘Not Gonna Bow Down’ to Washington Commanders

The Washington Commanders offense features one of the most consistent wide receivers in the National Football League.

This season, wideout Terry McLaurin has recorded14 touchdown receptions in 18 combined regular and postseason games.

The 29-year-old has secured at least 77 receptions in each of the past four seasons.

Detroit Lions cornerback Amik Robertson respects the playoff opponent, but also is not going to back down from his assignment.

“They make plays. We have a lot of respect for those guys, but I just feel like, like I always say, ‘Those guys are not us.’ They’re great guys, but when I’m out there, I don’t worry about names,” Robertson told Lions OnSI, when asked what the Commanders receivers bring to the table. “I don’t worry about what you did last week or what you’ve done during the season, because it wasn’t on me.

“When I’m out there, I’m a highly competitive guy and I’m a guy that’s not gonna bow down,” Robertson continued. “I know the secondary and those guys aren’t either, because at the end of the day, we’re in that one percent too that’s in the league. It’s gonna be a fun game, and it’s gonna be highly competitive.”

The former Las Vegas Raiders defensive back allows him to celebrate wins for 24 hours, and then begins to prepare for the next opponent.

Robertson has garnered a significant amount of praise for his efforts against Vikings wideout Justin Jefferson.

Terrion Arnold: It’s Just Another Game

“It gave me some confidence but I was already a confident guy,” said Robertson. “The way I performed, I knew I was gonna perform that way. After the game, I always harp on that 24-hour rule. If we win, enjoy that win, you’ve got 24 hours til you focus on the next opponent. I kind of put it behind me. As far as this game and the game against the Vikings, I was already confident. I’m the same confident guy.”

The 26-year-old wants to always repay the belief Detroit’s coaches have in him but giving it his all on each and every play.

“Every time I walk on the field, these coaches trust in me,” Robertson said. “I always harp on it, when you have coaches that believe in you, you always want to go out there and kill yourself on the field for them. Go full speed and play hard. Every time I go out there and touch the grass, A.G. and Dan always tell me, ‘Go be you.’ When you can do that, and I can be myself within the scheme, that’s what I want. I’m always all over the field. Trust my keys and let my instincts and talent take control.”

Detroit’s defense is aware one of the primary responsibilities is limiting what quarterback Jayden Daniels can accomplish in his second career NFL playoff game.

“Jayden, man, is a phenomenal, young football player,” Robertson noted. “Great with his legs, accurate. He’s gonna be good for a long time in this league. He’s gonna make his plays, just try to eliminate him as much as possible. Just try to get the offense back the ball.”

Robertson is aware he is one of the emotional leaders of the defense. Detroit’s coaching staff does not want him to lose his edge when he is battling against opponents.

“Dan (Campbell) tells me, ‘Never lose my stinger.’ No matter, the refs always on me when I’m talking. He just tells me to be a little smart,” said Robertson. “But he tells me, man, never lose your stinger, because some of my teammates, most of my teammates, offense and defense, they feed off it.”

The Detroit Lions’ rookie cornerback, Amik Robertson, is making it clear that he is not going to back down to the Washington Commanders. Despite being a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Robertson is determined to prove himself on the field and show that he belongs in the league.

In a recent interview, Robertson stated, “I’m not gonna bow down to anyone. I’m here to compete and show what I can do. I know I may not be the biggest guy out there, but I play with heart and passion, and I’m not afraid to take on any challenge.”

Robertson’s confidence and tenacity have already caught the attention of his teammates and coaches, who have praised his work ethic and determination. With his competitive mindset and relentless attitude, Robertson is poised to make a significant impact for the Lions this season.

As the Lions prepare to face off against the Commanders, fans can expect to see Robertson giving it his all on the field and refusing to back down from any opponent. With his fearless attitude and undeniable talent, Robertson is sure to be a player to watch in this upcoming matchup.

Detroit Lions elevate veteran Teddy Bridgewater to backup QB role against Washington Commanders

The Detroit Lions chose veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater over Hendon Hooker to back up Jared Goff against the Washington Commanders on Saturday night.

Detroit kept Bridgewater active and listed Hooker as the emergency quarterback for the divisional playoff game.

The Lions signed the 32-year-old Bridgewater last month after he coached at his high school alma mater, leading Miami Northwestern to the Florida Class 3A state title. He was Goff’s seldom-used backup during the 2023 season.

Bridgewater, drafted in the first round by Minnesota in 2014, has started 65 regular-season games for the Vikings, New Orleans, Carolina, Denver and Miami.

Hooker, in his second year, was 6 of 9 for 62 yards in three games this season as Goff’s backup.

The Commanders activated tight end Colson Yankoff, who had a hamstring injury, from injured reserve and cleared reserve linebacker Mykal Walker to play after he was slowed by an illness. Both were questionable on the injury report earlier in the week.

Washington elevated defensive end Andre Jones Jr. and cornerback Kevon Seymour from the practice squad and previously ruled out reserve rookie linebacker Jordan Magee with a hamstring injury.

The Lions ruled out rookie cornerback Ennis Rakestraw. He was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury and an illness.

The Lions previously ruled out starting right guard Kevin Zeitler, who left the final regular-season game with a hamstring injury, and reserve defensive lineman Pat O’Connor because of a calf injury.

Detroit elevated defensive lineman Chris Smith and cornerback Stantley Thomas-Oliver from the practice squad.

The Detroit Lions have announced that veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater will be elevated to the backup QB role for their upcoming game against the Washington Commanders.

Bridgewater, who was signed by the Lions earlier this season, has been a reliable and experienced quarterback in the league for several years. With starting QB Jared Goff dealing with an injury, the Lions have turned to Bridgewater to step up and provide depth at the position.

Head coach Dan Campbell expressed confidence in Bridgewater’s ability to lead the offense if called upon, praising his leadership and experience on the field. The Lions will look to Bridgewater to provide stability and guidance to the team as they face off against the Commanders.

Fans are excited to see Bridgewater in action and hope that he can help lead the Lions to a victory in their upcoming game. Stay tuned for more updates on Bridgewater’s role with the team as the season progresses. #OnePride #DetroitLions #TeddyBridgewater
