  • Source — Chiefs plan to activate CB Jaylen Watson off IR

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Chiefs plan to activate starting cornerback Jaylen Watson off the injured reserve list in time to play in Saturday’s divisional-round playoff game against the Houston Texans at Arrowhead Stadium, a source tells ESPN.

Coach Andy Reid didn’t confirm the Chiefs would activate Watson, who broke his ankle during a Week 7 game against the San Francisco 49ers and recently returned to practice. But he said earlier this week Watson had a chance to play.

“He’s worked tremendously hard to get himself to this point, first of all, and we will just see how that goes as far as the game reps and all that,” Reid said Thursday. “But he sure has worked hard to get himself even to this point right here.”

Watson started the first six games of the season. He broke up six passes.

The Chiefs have struggled to find an adequate replacement since losing Watson. The Chiefs have at various times used Nazeeh Johnson and Joshua Williams in Watson’s absence as the starting cornerback opposite Trent McDuffie.

The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly planning to activate cornerback Jaylen Watson off injured reserve, according to sources. This move comes at a crucial time for the Chiefs, as they look to bolster their secondary heading into the final stretch of the season.

Watson, a promising young talent, has been sidelined with an injury for the past few weeks. His return could provide a much-needed boost to a Chiefs defense that has struggled at times this season.

With key matchups on the horizon, including a showdown with division rival the Los Angeles Chargers, the Chiefs are looking to shore up their defense and make a push for the playoffs. The activation of Watson could be just what the team needs to solidify their secondary and make a late-season run.

Stay tuned for more updates on Watson’s status and the impact his return could have on the Chiefs’ defense.

  • From Dak Prescott to Deshaun Watson: The worst NFL contracts that cripple teams

From Dak Prescott to Deshaun Watson: The worst NFL contracts that cripple teams

In the high-stakes world of the NFL, teams gamble big money on players they believe will lead them to success. Sometimes, those gambles pay off with Super Bowl rings and sold-out stadiums. But other times, they become cautionary tales. Poor planning, overreactions to market trends, and misplaced faith in players can saddle franchises with bloated contracts that haunt their salary cap for years. Whether it’s due to injuries, underperformance, or questionable decision-making, these deals can cripple a team’s ability to build a competitive roster.

Bad contracts don’t just affect the bottom line-they ripple through the entire organization. “You’re not just overpaying one player; you’re sacrificing depth and flexibility,” said an NFL cap analyst. The worst deals often reflect desperation, where teams prioritize short-term gains or headlines over sustainable success. Let’s break down some of the most egregious examples and explore how these contracts have gone sideways for the teams involved.

Contract: 5 years, $230 million (fully guaranteed)

Desperation drove Cleveland to make Watson the first fully guaranteed $200+ million player, despite off-field controversies and inconsistent play. Since joining the Browns, his performance (81.7 QB rating) has lagged behind previous starters like Jacoby Brissett. Add his Achilles injury, and Cleveland faces $63+ million cap hits annually through 2025 with no escape hatch.

    Contract: 4 years, $240 million

Dallas painted itself into a corner by franchise-tagging Prescott twice, giving him unprecedented leverage. The result? A $231 million guarantee and a $60 million annual salary-higher than anyone in NFL history. Jerry Jones may tout his business savvy, but this deal suggests otherwise. Prescott’s looming $40 million cap hit in 2025 makes it clear Dallas prioritized short-term solutions over long-term strategy.

    Contract: 4 years, $180 million

Signing a 36-year-old Cousins after an Achilles tear was bold; drafting Michael Penix Jr. after committing $100 million guaranteed was baffling. “Why pay top dollar for a QB if you’re planning for the future?” critics asked. Atlanta’s mixed messaging has left fans confused and their cap strained.

    Marcus Williams – Baltimore Ravens

    Contract: 5 years, $70 million

Williams hasn’t justified being the league’s eighth-highest-paid safety. His $18.72 million cap hit in 2024 is a far cry from his underwhelming production. Baltimore’s defense is stretched thin, and Williams’ deal is a glaring misstep in an otherwise strong roster.

Derek Carr – New Orleans Saints

    Contract: 4 years, $150 million

Carr’s conservative playing style doesn’t align with his hefty cap hits-$51.4 million in 2025 and $61.4 million in 2026. Known for salary-cap gymnastics, the Saints have tied themselves to a deal that limits their flexibility for years to come.

    Related:

    Contract: 6 years, $120 million

The Bills bet on Miller for immediate impact, but injuries and age caught up quickly. His $15.1 million cap hit in 2024 feels excessive for a player benched during his comeback year. Miller’s deal is a stark reminder of the risks of overpaying aging stars.

    Contract: 3 years, $71.55 million

Samuel’s $15.8 million cap hit isn’t astronomical, but his uneven usage and frustrations with the team are concerning. Cutting him would result in $31.6 million in dead money. With younger players like Brandon Aiyuk recovering from injury, Samuel’s deal feels like a financial tightrope.

    Contract: 4 years, $25.4 million

Sanders might be the fourth-string running back in 2024, yet he carries a $7.7 million cap hit. Chuba Hubbard has outperformed him, and rookie Jonathon Brooks could surpass him as soon as he’s healthy. Sanders’ deal is likely to end with a release in 2025.

Joey Bosa – Los Angeles Chargers

    Contract: 5 years, $135 million

Once a dominant force, Bosa’s injuries have derailed his production. Playing just 14 games over the last two seasons with nine combined sacks, his $26.1 million cap hit in 2024 feels like an anchor on the Chargers’ finances.

    Contract: 5 years, $275 million

Lawrence’s $55 million annual salary doesn’t match his performance. The Jaguars hoped for MVP-level play, but inconsistency and poor coaching have left him looking average. With escalating cap hits reaching $78.5 million in 2029, Jacksonville isn’t even maximizing the deal’s early years.

These contracts show how short-sighted decisions or gambles on potential can backfire, leaving teams scrambling to manage their cap space and fans questioning their front offices.

In the NFL, contract negotiations can make or break a team’s salary cap situation. While some deals work out in a team’s favor, others can prove to be crippling. From Dak Prescott to Deshaun Watson, let’s take a look at some of the worst NFL contracts that have left teams struggling to stay competitive.

    1. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: In 2021, Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Cowboys, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. While Prescott has shown flashes of brilliance on the field, his massive contract has limited the Cowboys’ ability to build a strong supporting cast around him. With a lackluster defense and an underperforming offensive line, the Cowboys have struggled to make a deep playoff run with Prescott at the helm.

    2. Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans: Watson signed a four-year, $156 million contract extension with the Texans in 2020, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league at the time. However, Watson’s contract has become a burden for the Texans as he has demanded a trade following a tumultuous offseason. With Watson’s future in limbo and his legal troubles mounting, the Texans find themselves in a difficult position with a highly paid quarterback who may not even suit up for them in the future.

    3. Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles: Wentz signed a four-year, $128 million contract extension with the Eagles in 2019, but his performance on the field quickly declined. Wentz struggled with inconsistency and turnovers, eventually losing his starting job to rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts. The Eagles were forced to trade Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts in 2021, but his contract left them with a significant dead money hit against their salary cap.

Overall, these contracts serve as cautionary tales for NFL teams looking to lock up their franchise quarterbacks. While having a talented signal-caller is crucial for success in the league, overpaying for their services can have long-term repercussions on a team’s ability to build a competitive roster. As teams continue to navigate the complexities of the salary cap, it’s important to learn from the mistakes of the past and approach contract negotiations with caution.

Before suffering from a season-ending injury Watson was accused of sexually assaulting a woman which the quarterback denying the allegations.

“Deshaun strongly denies the allegations in the Jane Doe lawsuit filed Monday,” attorney Rusty Hardin, who is representing Watson, wrote back in September. “We have asked him not to comment further while this matter works its way through the courts, but are comfortable he will ultimately be vindicated. We will be ready to defend this case in court at the appropriate time, but don’t intend to conduct our defense in the media. We would ask that people be patient while the legal process runs its course.”

According to the Associated Press, Watson settled confidentially a month after the civil suit was filed.

In 2022, he was suspended for the first 11 games of the season after two dozen women accused him of sexual assault and crude behavior during his massage therapy sessions.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson took to social media to clear up any rumors of a breakup with his longtime girlfriend, Jilly Anais. Speculation had been swirling after fans noticed a lack of photos of the couple together on social media.

In a heartfelt post, Watson shared a sweet photo of himself and Jilly, along with a caption expressing his love and gratitude for her. He wrote, “Just wanted to take a moment to clear up any rumors – Jilly and I are still going strong and more in love than ever. She’s been my rock through everything and I couldn’t imagine my life without her. Thank you for all the love and support, we appreciate it more than you know. #relationshipgoals #powercouple”

Deshaun Watson ends breakup speculation with birthday note to girlfriend

Deshaun Watson went all out for his girlfriend, Jilly Anais, on her 29th birthday on Thursday.

The Browns quarterback, who suffered a season-ending Achilles injury against the Bengals in Week 7, decorated their Miami apartment with red and gold balloons before taking her to a private seafood dinner on a yacht, as seen in a video she posted to Instagram.

“Happy Birthday To You Queen!” Watson, also 29, wrote in a separate post, including photos of the couple. “4ever love you ma! Grateful to celebrate with you! Continue to smile and inspire! May The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; The Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace! More Glory Luv and Let this year be full of Blessings, Health, and Success! .”

Anais commented with, “Thank you to the love of my life! I love you with all of my being! .”

The couple is clearly going strong after Watson stirred buzz on Christmas with a TikTok video that spoke about letting go of someone you love if they try to disrupt your peace.

“I say this every year, but this was the best birthday ever,” Anais wrote on her Instagram Story.

Watson gifted the model — who walked in the Sports Illustrated Runway Show at Miami Swim Week last year — with a crocodile red Birkin bag and a bracelet in 18K rose gold by Van Cleef & Arpels, which costs $19,300.

The pair has been dating since her split from Pelicans point guard Dejounte Murray in 2018.

Anais stayed with Watson and they remained united after allegations of sexual misconduct by roughly two dozen massage therapists against the quarterback were first made public in March 2021.

The Pro Bowl signal caller, who has maintained his innocence, later served an 11-game suspension during the 2022 season and was fined $5 million.

Watson signed a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract with the Browns in March 2022.

It came after he requested a trade out of Houston in January 2021.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson took to Instagram to put an end to breakup rumors swirling around his relationship with longtime girlfriend Jilly Anais. In a heartfelt birthday post dedicated to Anais, Watson expressed his love for her and shared a series of sweet photos of the couple together.

The post, captioned “Happy Birthday Queen !! The light you bring into my life is truly amazing. I appreciate you more than you know. I love you ,” quickly put an end to any speculation that the two were on the rocks.

Fans of the couple flooded the comments section with well wishes and messages of support, with many expressing their happiness that the pair is still going strong.

It’s clear that despite any rumors or speculation, Watson and Anais are still very much in love and committed to their relationship. Here’s to many more years of happiness for the happy couple!

  • Browns will consider Kirk Cousins after Deshaun Watson disaster

Browns will consider Kirk Cousins after Deshaun Watson disaster

The bar for quarterback play is so low in Cleveland that another team’s benched disaster may be the best option for the Browns.

Kirk Cousins will be on the team’s radar as competition for embattled starter Deshaun Watson, should the Falcons move on from him this offseason, a team source told ESPN.

The source said the team is expected to look into “any veteran with starter’s talent” and said the “working theory” in NFL circles is the team attempts to hold a competition for the starting job next season

The Browns are paying the price for their decision to fully guarantee Watson’s $230 million contract since the 29-year-old is no longer an elite quarterback and, one could argue, barely a starter.

While teams like the Giants moved on from Daniel Jones and even the Falcons benched Cousins for rookie Michael Penix Jr., Cleveland is in a tougher spot since they have to pay Watson every cent of his massive guaranteed salary.

To pay another quarterback — even backups like Tyrod Taylor make decent money — would kill their cap even further.

The Browns could owe $92 million in cash and receive $119 million in dead salary cap if they cut Watson after June 1 and $173 million in cap space if before then, per ESPN.

Deshaun Watson has not played well in Cleveland. Getty Images

However, they can look to follow what Pittsburgh did this offseason with Russell Wilson in terms of offering a potential starting job to a quarterback being paid by another team (Denver, in Wilson’s case).

    And that’s where Cousins enters.

The Falcons gave the 36-year-old a four-year, $180 million deal with $100 million guaranteed this past offseason, and he made it through just 15 games before being sent to the bench.

Kirk Cousins looks on during Week 16 of the 2024 NFL season. Getty Images

With Atlanta taking Penix Jr. in the first round and turning to him late in the season, the writing is on the wall that Cousins’ time is up.

The Falcons could cut Cousins this offseason, which would then make him all the more attractive since the Browns could sign him for the veteran’s minimum.

“Holding on just because of the money will only prolong the inevitable,” an NFL national scout told ESPN. “You saw what Denver did, and they are doing OK. The Browns would just have to do that on a bigger scale.”

Dorian Thompson-Robinson has not played well either for the Browns. Getty Images

It’s possible the Browns could choose a quarterback in the draft since Cleveland holds the No. 3 pick entering Week 18.

But there are questions about this quarterback class and the Browns could use help all over the roster. The Browns could also, in theory, have Cousins and Watson guide a touted prospect.

The one drawback to this scenario is that Cousins may not be good anymore.

Cousins threw 18 touchdowns to 16 interceptions this season but struggled before his benching in his first season back after tearing his Achilles.

However, those numbers seem Pro Bowl caliber compared to Watson’s five touchdowns and three interceptions before he suffered his own Achilles tear in Week 7.

Cousins has also worked with Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski in Minnesota, and perhaps the Browns’ coach is better suited to help him return to form than the Atlanta coaches.

In the wake of the Deshaun Watson disaster, the Cleveland Browns are reportedly considering quarterback Kirk Cousins as a potential replacement. After missing out on their top choice in Watson, the Browns are exploring all options to fill their quarterback void.

Cousins, who is currently under contract with the Minnesota Vikings, has been a consistent performer throughout his career. Known for his accuracy and decision-making, Cousins could provide the stability and leadership that the Browns desperately need at the quarterback position.

While the Vikings may be hesitant to part ways with Cousins, the opportunity to acquire additional assets in a potential trade could be enticing. With the Browns in need of a reliable starter, Cousins could be a strong candidate to lead the team to success.

As the Browns weigh their options in the aftermath of the Watson situation, Cousins remains a viable option to consider. Stay tuned for further updates on the quarterback situation in Cleveland.

Drew Mestemaker, William Watson III Headline Friday’s Best Bets

Bowl season is nearly over, with just three games left to go — not counting the College Football Playoff. With the North Texas Mean Green taking on the Texas State Bobcats and the Minnesota Golden Gophers battling the Virginia Tech Hokies on Friday, there are plenty of player props to choose from. But these are the best four.

    CFN CFB Playoff Predictor
College Football Network’s College Football Playoff Predictor is a tool that allows you to play out various weekly scenarios to see how the CFP picture changes with each scenario.

    Friday College Football Player Props

Lincoln Pare Over 80.5 Rushing Yards (-114, FanDuel)

With the Mean Green missing their starting QB, TE, center, and leading WR, it’s fair to assume points could be hard to come by for them. As a result, the Bobcats should lean on their ground game to methodically move the chains and maintain a lead.

MORE: Who’s opted not to play in a bowl game? Track them all with our College Football Bowl Game Opt-Out Tracker!

With RB1 Ishmail Mahdi joining the Arizona Wildcats through the transfer portal, backup Lincoln Pare (74-411-6 rushing line on the year) should receive the bulk of the workload in the First Responder Bowl. With North Texas ranking 103rd in EPA per rush against and 107th in defensive rush success rate, Pare is in line to produce on the ground.

Drew Mestemaker Over 217.5 Passing Yards (-114, FanDuel)

With Chandler Morris off to the Virginia Cavaliers, freshman Drew Mestemaker will earn his first-ever start against Texas State. The 6’4″ signal-caller is missing key components around him, but so is the Bobcats defense. Starting CB Josh Eaton committed to the Michigan State Spartans, and three DTs with 300+ snaps on the year will miss the contest.

Head coach Eric Morris is a QB guru and loves to air it all — partially because the team has struggled to run the ball. As long as Mestemaker doesn’t crumble under the pressure, he should clear 218 passing yards with relative ease.

Jameson Geers 25+ Receiving Yards (+160, DraftKings)

Minnesota faces a depleted Hokies team, so most bettors likely want exposure to Darius Taylor and the rushing attack. However, Jameson Geers’ receiving yards prop is simply too low. WR1 Daniel Jackson, who accounted for over 30% of the team’s receiving yardage and receptions in 2024, is out for the game.

Starting QB Max Brosmer will have to throw to someone, and the extra looks should help Geers coast past 25 yards. He’s generated 20+ yards in six of 12 outings, including three games where he did so on just one catch. If the risk is still too high for you, take the alternate line at 16+ receiving yards for -125.

William Watson III Anytime Touchdown (+210, FanDuel)

Someone has to score for the Hokies, so why not take the player whose hands the ball will be in the most? Starting QB Kyron Drones ran for a TD in more games than he didn’t (5 to 4) this season, and freshman William Watson III was able to do so in his first career start in the regular-season finale win over the Virginia Cavaliers.

Watson may not have elite weapons around him, but that should actually lead to more scramble attempts on top of the designed carries he’ll inevitably receive in Virginia Tech’s offense. Maryland’s Billy Edwards Jr., North Carolina’s Max Johnson, and Penn State’s Drew Allar were able to run for scores — why can’t the more dynamic Watson?

  • NFL inactives Week 17: QBs Jalen Hurts, Anthony Richardson out, WR Christian Watson questionable

NFL inactives Week 17: QBs Jalen Hurts, Anthony Richardson out, WR Christian Watson questionable

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been ruled for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys with a concussion.

Hurts has been in concussion protocol since his head hit the turf during Sunday’s loss to the Washington Commanders. Head coach Nick Sirianni said on Friday that it was “going to be tough for him to make it” after the quarterback did not practice this week.

Backup Kenny Pickett, who came in for Hurts for the rest of the Commanders game, will start in Hurts’ place.

Down in New Jersey, the Indianapolis Colts (7-8) hopes to keep its faint playoff hopes alive without Anthony Richardson, who will miss Sunday’s game with back and foot injuries. Joe Flacco will start Sunday at the New York Giants.

Richardson’s injury isn’t expected to sideline him for the regular-season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to an ESPN report. This will mark the third game Richardson has missed with injury this season.

After suffering a bone bruise during Monday night’s win over the New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has yet to practice this week.

After a Saints player fell on him, there was concern for Watson’s knee, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed earlier this week that there was no structural damage and it was only a bone bruise.

On Thursday, LaFleur told reporters that even if Watson doesn’t practice this week, that doesn’t necessarily mean he won’t play Sunday against the Vikings.

“If he’s feeling up to it on Sunday, then I’m going to let him go. If he’s not, then we won’t let him go,” LaFleur said.

Watson is currently listed as questionable.

    Data Management: Databases and Organizations

In today’s digital age, data has become one of the most valuable assets for organizations. From customer information to financial records, businesses rely on data to make informed decisions and drive growth. However, managing data effectively can be a daunting task, especially as the volume and complexity of data continue to grow.

One key aspect of data management is the use of databases. Databases are organized collections of data that allow organizations to store, retrieve, and manage information efficiently. By structuring data in a database, organizations can ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility.

There are many different types of databases, each suited to different needs and requirements. From traditional relational databases to NoSQL databases and data warehouses, organizations have a range of options to choose from. The key is to select the right database for your specific use case and ensure that it is optimized for performance and scalability.

In addition to selecting the right database, organizations must also establish proper data management practices. This includes defining data governance policies, establishing data quality standards, and implementing data security measures. By putting these practices in place, organizations can ensure that their data is accurate, secure, and compliant with regulations.

Overall, effective data management is essential for organizations looking to harness the power of their data. By using databases and implementing proper data management practices, organizations can unlock valuable insights, drive innovation, and achieve their business goals.
