Third-Ranked Women’s Hoops Ships Up To Boston – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — No. 3 Notre Dame (16-2, 7-0) will play the first of three consecutive road games starting Thursday, as the Irish head to Chestnut Hill to play Boston College (12-8, 3-4).
The Irish have won 11 consecutive games dating back to Dec. 5, and the offense is beginning to fire on all cylinders with both Maddy Westbeld and Hannah Hidalgo back in the starting lineup.
After missing two games against Clemson and Georgia Tech with an ankle sprain, Hidalgo returned to the court Sunday night against SMU and recorded 23 points and 10 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. Front court mate Olivia Miles also had a double-double, notching 17 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. It was the 25th double-double of her storied career. No other Notre Dame guard has had more than 17.
Notre Dame continues to dominate the national rankings as a team. The Irish rank in the top 10 in the country in scoring offense and rebounds, assists and blocks per game. Notre Dame also leads the nation with a 41.3 success rate from beyond the arc, led by Miles who is shooting 44.8 percent from deep, a more than 20 percent increase from her average over the first three years of her career.
The Eagles are winners of back-to-back ACC games, edging Miami by 4 points last Thursday and dominating Syracuse by 41 on Sunday. Four Boston College players scored in double figures in the win, including 22 points from veteran Dontavia Waggoner and 21 from Teya Sidberry. The Eagles knocked down 10 triples after 12 against Miami, marking the first time since 2019 that they had 10 or more 3-pointers in back-to-back games. That charge against Syracuse was led by T’yana Todd, who went 4-5 from deep.
On the season, Boston College sits in the middle of the ACC in both scoring offense (ninth) and scoring defense (11th). They do an excellent job passing the ball, averaging 16.5 assists per game (fourth). Kaylah Ivey ranks second in the conference with 6.1 assists per game, trailing only Miles (7.1). Ivey has an assist/turnover ratio of 3.9, which leads the ACC.
Thursday’s game will air on ACCNX and tips off at 7 p.m. Notre Dame is 30-9 all-time against Boston College and has won the last five meetings.

ChatGPT is offline, leaving users unable to talk to the AI chat app.
Visitors to the website saw an error page rather than the usual chat options, and official apps and other integrations with ChatGPT also appeared to be broken.
The official status page of OpenAI, which makes the service, said that it was seeing “elevated error rates” and that it was investigating the issue.
Tracking website Down Detector saw a huge surge in complaints about problems at around noon UK time, or 7am eastern. The timing meant that many took to other platforms to complain that they had been left unable to use a tool that was central to their work or study.
“chatgpt down in the middle of the workday i’m about to get fired pray for me,” wrote on user on X, alongside other complaints from people who said they were in the middle of coding or writing essays and now had to do the work themselves.
ChatGPT now has more than 300 million people using it each week, OpenAI’s chief executive Sam Altman announced late last year. Users send more than a billion messages each day to the system, he said.
The app was initially launched in 2022, and very quickly went onto become the fastest-growing launch ever. Since then, OpenAI has added new features and systems as well as looking to monetise it with paid access to better capabilities.
ChatGPT has also been integrated into a range of other systems through its API, and OpenAI says that more than 1.3 million developers have built on the system in the US. The outage also appeared to take down those third-party integrations.
Unfortunately, it seems that ChatGPT, the popular AI chat app, is experiencing technical difficulties as its website has gone offline. Users are reporting issues accessing the platform and are unable to chat with the AI.This is a major inconvenience for those who rely on ChatGPT for various tasks, such as generating text, brainstorming ideas, or simply having a conversation with the AI. The sudden outage has left many users frustrated and wondering when the service will be back up and running.
Hopefully, the developers behind ChatGPT are working to resolve the issue promptly so that users can once again enjoy the benefits of this innovative AI chat app. In the meantime, users may need to explore alternative options or wait patiently for the service to be restored.

Trump administration deletes Biden’s reproductive rights website
A government website created by the Biden administration outlining reproductive rights following the 2022 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson has apparently been removed by the Trump administration within hours of President Donald Trump taking office.
Repoductiverights.gov was launched to provide resources for those seeking information on subjects such as birth control, abortion and reproductive health care.
“Reproductive health care, including access to birth control and safe and legal abortion care, is an essential part of your health and well-being,” the website stated last week. “While Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion remains legal in many states, and other reproductive health care services remain protected by law. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is committed to providing you with accurate and up-to-date information about access to and coverage of reproductive health care and resources. Our goal is to make sure you have appropriate information and support.”
In the wake of the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Biden administration said it would “increase outreach and public education efforts regarding access to reproductive health care services—including abortion—to ensure that Americans have access to reliable and accurate information about their rights and access to care.”

President Trump’s stance on abortion has wavered throughout the years, although he has largely given himself credit for overturning Roe v. Wade after appointing three conservatives to the Supreme Court in his first term.
He has also expressed support for in vitro fertilization rights, which were subject to scrutiny in the wake of Dobbs v. Jackson. It is unclear, however, whether Trump would support a national law guaranteeing a right to IVF treatment nationwide. In 2024, Senate Republicans blocked proposed legislation that would have prohibited states from enacting bans on IVF treatment.
Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson noted the uncertainty moving forward regarding reproductive rights.
“For Planned Parenthood and the communities we serve, today is a day of profound uncertainty and unwavering determination. Many are wrestling with anxiety about what the future holds. While we can’t predict what the coming days, weeks, or months will bring, one thing remains certain: Planned Parenthood will hold firm, fighting relentlessly against every attempt to undermine or take away access to trusted, affordable, and essential sexual and reproductive health care,” she said.

Recently, the Trump administration made the decision to delete former Vice President Joe Biden’s reproductive rights website. This move has sparked outrage among pro-choice advocates and has raised concerns about the future of women’s healthcare in the United States. The website, which was created during Biden’s time in office, contained valuable information about reproductive health services, birth control options, and abortion rights. By deleting this website, the Trump administration is effectively erasing important resources that many women rely on for accurate and up-to-date information about their reproductive rights.
This decision comes at a time when reproductive rights are under attack across the country, with numerous states passing restrictive abortion laws and the Supreme Court potentially poised to overturn Roe v. Wade. Deleting Biden’s reproductive rights website is just another way the Trump administration is undermining women’s access to essential healthcare services.
It is crucial that we continue to fight for reproductive rights and ensure that all women have access to the care they need. Deleting this website is a blatant attempt to erase valuable information and silence those who advocate for women’s rights. We must stand up against these attacks and defend access to reproductive healthcare for all.

Government website offering reproductive health information goes offline
Government website reproductiverights.gov appeared to be offline on the evening of President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
The site, launched in 2022 by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of a public awareness campaign, contained information on access to abortion and reproductive health care and a Know-Your-Rights patient fact sheet.
“Reproductive health care, including access to birth control and safe and legal abortion care, is an essential part of your health and well-being,” a statement on the website read. “While Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortion remains legal in many states, and other reproductive health care services remain protected by law.”
The site affirmed that most employer-based health plans and private health insurance plans are required to cover certain prescription birth control methods under the Affordable Care Act, which Trump has made calls to repeal. It also displayed a list of other services covered by most insurance plans, including breast and cervical cancer screenings, prenatal care and HIV screenings.
The site reiterated that while abortion legality varies by state, Mifepristone, in a regimen with misoprostol — otherwise known as a medication abortion — has been approved by the FDA and is safe and effective when used correctly.
It was not clear exactly when the site went down but it had been active as recently as Jan. 15.
CBS News has reached out to the Trump administration for clarification on why the site was down, but has not heard back.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was tapped by Trump to oversee the Department of Health and Human Services, has flip-flopped on his public stance regarding abortion. He said on Facebook last year that “abortion should be legal up until a certain number of weeks, and restricted thereafter,” but also wrote that “every abortion is a tragedy,” calling for the reduction of abortions “by better supporting mothers, parents and families.”
In 2023, he expressed to an NBC News reporter that he would support a national ban on abortion after the first three months of pregnancy, but then hours later a spokesperson for Kennedy said that he “does not support legislation banning abortion,” the outlet reported.
Trump, meanwhile, has said that abortion decisions should be left to the states and that he would veto a federal abortion ban while also repeatedly taking credit for the Supreme Court’s reversal of Roe v. Wade.
According to the Guttmacher Institute, 12 states currently have a total abortion ban and in four states abortion is banned after six weeks, when most women are not yet aware they are pregnant. According to a CBS News poll, most Americans continue to favor abortion being legal in all or most cases.
It has recently come to light that a government website dedicated to providing important reproductive health information has gone offline. This website served as a valuable resource for individuals seeking information on topics such as birth control, STD prevention, and family planning. The sudden disappearance of this website has left many people in a state of confusion and concern. Without access to this vital information, individuals may struggle to make informed decisions about their reproductive health.
It is crucial that the government takes immediate action to restore this website and ensure that it remains accessible to the public. Reproductive health is a fundamental aspect of overall well-being, and everyone deserves access to accurate and up-to-date information on this topic.
In the meantime, individuals are encouraged to seek out alternative sources of information, such as reputable health organizations and clinics. It is important to stay informed and empowered when it comes to making decisions about your reproductive health. Let’s hope that the government acts swiftly to rectify this situation and ensure that this valuable resource is once again available to those who need it.

MORNING SKATE RECAP
NEWARK, NJ – The Devils did not hold a morning skate due to playing an afternoon contest against Ottawa. Head coach Sheldon Keefe did address the media before the game. Here are the biggest takeaways from that avail.
Lineup
The Devils have been dealing with a rash of illness running through the team. The bug recently knocked forward Stefan Noesen out of the lineup for two games. However, it doesn’t appear that today’s lineup will be effected.
“There are names popping up on the injury/illness list each day that we’re monitoring. I think we’ll be okay from the looks of it,” Keefe said. “We’re monitoring it from an energy standpoint and making sure it’s not contagious. Some of that’s out of my hands. Seems like we have a group of guys that are in today that are good, and nothing to be concerned about at this moment.”
Scouting Ottawa
The Senators have been a very streaky team, both in good and bad terms, this season. Out of the holiday break, Ottawa went 1-4-1, including four straight losses. But since then, the club has strung together a 4-0-1 streak.
“They’ve played good defense. They’ve gotten better goaltending,” Keefe said. “They keep the puck away from their net. They’ve always been very dangerous in transition, a lot of skill throughout their lineup. The defense supports the attack very well. They have three really good lines that can score and hurt you in different ways. It’s a good team. They play hard and they compete.”
Keefe noted the parity in the NHL truly means that there are no bad teams, particularly in the Eastern Conference.
“This Ottawa team is playing a lot of good hockey right now,” Keefe said. “We talked about it yesterday with Philly coming in, these teams have really taken a step in the last 20 games and playing as good a hockey as anybody in the league.
“The league right now is as close as it’s been in my time in the league. It doesn’t seem like there is any bottom in the Eastern Conference. Everybody is stuck in the middle and beating each other any given night. We have to be at our best, no doubt.”
Simplify
The Devils are looking for answers to their current offensive woes. And one place they can find answers, according to Keefe, is in their structure.
“Trust in the structure, trust in the system,” he said. “Doing your job, getting to your spots and not trying to complicate it, especially if it’s not going well.”

#Official #Jersey #Devils #WebsiteCFP Championship Game – A Historical Perspective – Notre Dame Fighting Irish – Official Athletics Website
By Alan Wasielewski
Notre Dame’s drive to the College Football National Championship game has brought the nation’s most storied program back to the forefront of the national sports scene. The 2024 version of the Fighting Irish have paved their own way to the national title game and are writing their own unique story that is already a worthy addition to the lore of Notre Dame Football.
As the team looks to join Alabama as the only college football programs to win a national title in seven different decades on Monday night in Atlanta, it is a perfect time to look at the 2024 season from a historical perspective and analyze some similarities from previous iterations of Irish football. Some of the anomalies are uncanny, invoking thoughts of ‘history repeating itself,’ while others prove how special the achievements of the 2024 team have become.
THIRD-SEASON MAGIC
The playoff run of three consecutive wins lends itself to an inescapable historical theme of Notre Dame head coaches winning a national title in their third season on campus.
Frank Leahy won a national title in his third season (1943), as did Ara Pareseghian (1966), Dan Devine (1977) and Lou Holtz (1988). Brian Kelly’s third Notre Dame team played for a national title in 2012.
It took Knute Rockne seven years to win his first title, but his third team in 1920 could have put together a national title argument in a time when there was no definitive way to determine the best team in the country. The ‘20 Irish, led by George Gipp before his untimely death late in the season due to pneumonia, outscored their opponents 251-44 and won at Nebraska and Army while also taking out a 5-2 Indiana team on a neutral field in Indianapolis.
1943
Leahy’s third-year team was led by the first of Notre Dame’s seven Heisman Trophy winners, Angelo Bertelli. The ‘43 team went wire-to-wire as the nation’s top-ranked team with wins over No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Navy, No. 3 Army, No. 8 Northwestern and No. 2 Iowa Pre-Flight (the last four in consecutive weeks). Great Lakes tripped Notre Dame up in the final game of the season but by then the Irish had already established themselves as the best team in the nation.
There is a connection between the 2024 team and that legendary ‘43 team. This year’s Irish squad is the only Notre Dame team since the 1943 championship group to beat at least three consecutive top-10 opponents (No. 9 Indiana, No. 2 Georgia and No. 5 Penn State).
1966
Ara Parseghian just missed a national title in his first season with the Irish in 1964, as an upset in the final game at Southern Cal denied the Irish an improbable turnaround from a 2-7 effort in 1963. That loss was avenged in Parseghian’s third year, however, when a 51-0 demolition of the Trojans in Los Angeles left little doubt who was the top team in the nation in 1966.
1977
In the ‘uncanny’ realm of historical coincidences, the 2024 Notre Dame path to a national championship game is eerily similar to the third-year under Dan Devine in 1977. Coming off a Gator Bowl victory over Penn State to end the 1976 season, the Irish were ranked No. 3 in the nation but lost their second game of the season in sweltering heat at unranked Mississippi.
The 1977 Fighting Irish had two excellent running backs in Jerome Heavens and Vagas Ferguson, along with all-star tight end Ken MacAfee who finished third in Heisman Trophy balloting that year. The ‘24 team is powered by a talented backfield that features Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price along with its own talented tight end, Mitchell Evans.
Joe Montana took over as the starting quarterback for the ‘77 team against Michigan State and big wins over No. 5 Southern Cal at home, at No. 15 Clemson and a destruction of No. 1 Texas 38-10 in the Cotton Bowl vaulted the Irish from No. 5 to No. 1 after all the postseason games were played.
Special recognitions should be given to Washington and Warren Moon, who upset No. 4 Michigan 27-20 in the Rose Bowl and an Arkansas team, led by Lou Holtz, who upset No. 2 and previously undefeated Oklahoma 31-6 in the Orange Bowl that allowed Notre Dame’s epic jump up in the final poll.
1988
Holtz moved from Arkansas to Minnesota before taking over at Notre Dame in 1986. His second Irish team rose as high as fourth and then moved up to seventh again in ‘87 after a victory over No. 10 Alabama. It was his third year, however, when the Irish broke through for their 11th consensus national title with a run-first quarterback and swarming defense that featured a big-play safety who started his career as wide receiver.
That run-first quarterback for the 1988 title team, Tony Rice, rushed 700 yards then set the Notre Dame single-season quarterback record of 884 yards in 1989. This season’s starting quarterback, Riley Leonard, is just 18 yards off of Rice’s mark with 866 yards heading into the Ohio State game.
It should be pointed out, however, that prior to 2002 the NCAA did not count bowl stats for season statistical records. Rice ran for 50 yards in the 1990 Orange Bowl against top-ranked Colorado, perhaps making the true single-season quarterback rushing record 934 yards.
The wide receiver turned big-play safety in 1988 was Pat Terrell, forever known for his denial of a two-point conversion against No. 1 Miami FL that season. The 2024 big play safety for Notre Dame is consensus All-American and 2023 Nagurski Awardwinner Xavier Watts, who also began his Irish career catching passes and his penchant for game-turning plays – that included a 100-yard interception return at Southern Cal – continues to power the Irish defense.
There is another historical call back between the 1988 and 2024 teams. Notre Dame’s offensive line has dealt with a myriad of injuries this season, forcing the Irish to deploy three different starting lineups (with a fourth looming as starting left tackle for the entire season, Anthonie Knapp, will miss the national championship game due to injury).
The 1988 team also was challenged at key times on its offensive line. Injuries to guards Tim Grunhard and Tim Ryan saw Mike Brennan and Joe Allen step up in the legendary victory over top-ranked Miami FL in October. Brennan, who joined the team as a walk-on and earned a scholarship before the ‘88 season, also started due to an injury situation in the Fiesta Bowl title game win over No. 3 West Virginia.
TWO TITLES, TWO SPORTS
You can also draw a connecting line between Mike Brennan and current Irish student-athletes Jordan Faison and Tyler Buchner. Brennan was a stand out lacrosse player in high school and saw action in 10 games for the Notre Dame lacrosse team in 1987. Faison and Buchner are hoping to become the first college football players to win a national title in men’s lacrosse and football on Monday night.
Faison played in all 17 games, scoring 22 goals with eight assists, for the 2024 Irish men’s lacrosse team that finished 16-1 and won its second consecutive national championship. Buchner saw action in 11 games as a defender for Kevin Corrigan’s team in ‘24.
There have been some previous Notre Dame football players who have come close to national titles in two different sports. Dick Arrington finished third at the 1965 NCAA wrestling meet while Bob Golic earned a fourth-place finish in 1977 and improved to third-place in 1978. Notre Dame discontinued its wrestling program in 1992.
Raghib ‘Rocket’ Ismail, a member of the ‘88 title team, was an All-American sprinter for the Notre Dame track and field team and finished second in the 1991 NCAA Indoor 55-meter sprint.
ALREADY HISTORIC
No matter the outcome on Monday night, the 2024 Notre Dame football team has already accomplished a number of ‘firsts’ in program history. The modern iteration of college football lends itself to more games and opportunities to achieve records and noteworthy statistical numbers. There have been a number of trailblazing achievements by the Irish this season.
- Notre Dame will play 16 games in 2024, three more than any Irish football team has played before. They also will play on the latest date in a season (January 20th of the next calendar year) and are the first Notre Dame football team to compete and win a game in six consecutive months.
- In those six consecutive months of competition, Notre Dame is the first college football program to defeat a ranked team in each of them:
- No. 7 Texas A&M on Aug. 31
- No. 15 Louisville on Sept. 28
- No. 24 Navy on Oct. 26
- No. 18 Army on November 18
- No. 9 Indiana in December 20
- No. 2 Georgia on Jan. 2
- No. 5 Penn State on Jan. 9
- The seven ranked wins for the Irish this season are the most of any FBS team and the most in the history of the program for a single year, surpassing the six ranked wins by the 1989 team.
- The 14 wins for the Irish in 2024 are the most in a single season in program history.
- In keeping with the No. 14 theme, the victory over Penn State in the Orange Bowl is the 14th win of the Marcus Freeman era at Notre Dame, more than any other Irish head coach in his first four years at the school and is tied with Georgia for the most of any FBS program over the past three seasons.
- Notre Dame boasts four consecutive bowl victories – the 2023 Gator Bowl, 2024 Sun Bowl, 2025 Sugar Bowl and 2025 Orange Bowl – which is the best run in school history and will continue into the 2025 season. The previous best bowl win streaks was three twice from 1992-94 (Sugar, Cotton twice) and 1975-79 (Orange, Cotton twice).
- Notre Dame will play their fifth Big Ten Conference team in the national title game when they face No. 6 Ohio State. The ‘24 team has claimed wins over Purdue, Southern Cal, Indiana and Penn State. It marks the first time since 1968 the Irish will face five teams from the Big Ten. The ‘68 squad finished 3-2 against the Big Ten slate.
- Anthonie Knapp became the first true freshman to start more than 13 games in a season (he started the first 15 games) in 2024. Sam Young (2006), KeiVarae Russell (2012) and Jaylon Smith (2013) each started 13 games in their rookie years.
- Riley Leonard, Jeremiyah Love, Beaux Collins, Aamil Wagner, Jack Kiser, Drayk Bowen, Adon Shuler and Xavier Watts will all push their program record for starts in a season to 16 when the Irish take the field against Ohio State.
- Jeremiyah Love scored at least one rushing touchdown in the first 13 games of the season. That set a new program standard for consecutive games with a rushing touchdown and also was the best streak ever to start a season.
- Riley Leonard’s 16 rushing touchdowns are the most for an Irish quarterback in a single season. Leonard’s 16 scores also rank fifth on the career list for rushing touchdowns by a single caller at Notre Dame and he has rushed for more touchdowns in an Irish uniform than legendary quarterbacks Terry Hanratty (voted into the College Football Hall of Fame this week), Joe Theismann, Paul Hornung and Joe Montana.
- Jack Kiser has started all 15 games in 2024 and will be playing in his program-record 70th game on Monday night.
- Xavier Watts became the 17th Notre Dame player to repeat as a Consensus All-American and joined Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter from Colorado as the only two Consensus All-American repeats in the country this season.
In a program that prides itself on both its tradition and its place in the current landscape of college football, the 2024 team has already paid tribute to the past through its performance this season and is poised to write another legendary accomplishment into the record books when they face Ohio State in the College Football Playoff Championship game in Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday, January 20.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Notre Dame men’s basketball team (7-6, 1-1) will look to unlock the green jersey magic once again when they host the North Carolina Tar Heels (8-6, 1-1) on Saturday, Jan. 4, presented by Verizon. The game will be broadcasted by CBS at Noon ET. The game is officially sold out – Notre Dame’s first of the season.
ND vs UNC
Saturday will mark the 40th meeting between the Irish and Tar Heels. ND trails the overall series 9-30 but has a better mark at home at 4-6. In fact, the Irish have won two of the last three against UNC inside Purcell Pavilion.
Saturday will also mark the second of what will be four Irish Wear Green games this conference season. Notre Dame was successful in its first Green Game, defeating Syracuse on December 7.
Lastly, there is an interesting Irish connection in this series. North Carolina’s athletic director Bubba Cunningham earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Notre Dame in 1984 and 1988, respectively. He’s a former member of the Irish golf team (1982-83) and served as Notre Dame’s associate athletics director for finance and facilities from 1995-2000 and was the associate director of athletics for external affairs from 2000-02. Notre Dame’s athletic director is a former Fighting Irish student-athlete as well. Pete Bevacqua graduated magna cum laude, with a B.A. in English in 1993. He was a walk-on punter for head football coach Lou Holtz.
THE TAE-KOVER
Tae Davis has stepped up and balled out in Markus Burton’s absence, emerging as one of the top talents in the league. Scoring-wise, Davis had the fourth-best December in the ACC, averaging 20.0 ppg last month.
He’s produced three straight games with 20+ points, averaging 23.7 ppg in that span on 61.5 percent shooting. He’s also averaging 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists over those three games. If Tae can go big for two more games, it’ll mark the first time an Irish player has recorded five straight of 20+ since Ben Hansbrough in February of 2011.
Lastly, he’s riding a career-best eight straight games in double figures.
PROTECT PURCELL
For the most part, the Irish have done just that, going 6-1 inside Purcell Pavilion during non-conference play. If it weren’t for the letdown vs. Elon, the Irish could have been looking at 7-0.
This is their best start at home since the 2021-22 season in which they were a dominant 14-1 inside Purcell and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.
The Irish are averaging 80.6 ppg at home on 49.6 percent shooting. They boast a scoring margin at home of +13.4.
The best individual player at home this year? Braeden Shrewsberry is averaging 18.0 ppg on an impressive 51.8 percent shooting. He’s 41.5 percent from deep. The sophomore has recorded 20+ points in three of his last four home games.
MAKING UP POINTS
Before Vegas, Burton was the only player in the country averaging 20+ points, 5+ assists, and 5+ rebounds. Now the Irish continue to work together to make up the 20+ points per game lost along with Burton’s ability to create shots for his teammates.
Three players in particular have stepped up to fill the void. Both Tae Davis and Braeden Shrewsberry are posting career highs in both points per game and shooting percentage. Then there’s Matt Allocco who is on pace to have the highest assist-to-turnover ratio in program history.
Davis is averaging 16.6 ppg, which ranks 10th in the ACC. For comparison, Tae averaged 9.2 ppg in his first year with the Irish. He boasts the third-best shooting percentage in the ACC at 53.7 percent. Diving deeper, he’s 51-of-75 (.680) at the rim.
Tae has this explosiveness and innate ability to attack the rim like no other on the team. He’s been using that to his advantage and getting to the foul line. He’s averaging 6.9 FD/40 which ranks 27th nationally. The Indy native ranks third in the league in FT attempts and sixth in makes. He’s shooting a career-best 76.5 percent from the stripe.
Next is Braeden Shrewsberry, who is averaging 16.2 ppg (11th in the ACC) on 43.7 percent shooting. His 2.9 threes per game rank second in the league, while his .373 clip from three ranks fifth.
In particular, Shrewsberry is hot from corner threes this year, knocking down 52.2 percent (12-for-23), which is 17.2 percent above the D1 average.
Last season, he drained 55 three-pointers in conference play which set a new program record for ACC threes. He ultimately hit 78 treys which were second most by a DI freshman.
However, it’s important to point out that he’s added to his overall arsenal. He’s developed a dangerous floater that keeps defenders guessing. Oh you think he’s shooting a three, well he’s gonna pump fake and drive now. He’s shooting 48.4% from the paint and he’s 12-15 around the rim. He’s 52.8 percent overall from two.
Last but not least is grad transfer Matt Allocco. The 6-4 guard is averaging 10.2 ppg on 45.4 percent shooting from the floor and 46.9 percent from beyond the arc. His 3.8 assists per game rank 10th in the ACC.
Allocco owns a 4.1 assist-to-turnover ratio which ranks fifth in the nation and leads all ACC players. It’s obviously way too early for comparisons, BUT, the highest A/TO ratio in program history for a season was 3.16 by Martin Inglesby back in 2000-01.
NOTRE NOTABLES
- Notre Dame is shooting 47.2 percent from the field which ranks fourth in the ACC.
- A defensive statistic that sticks out is the team’s three-point percentage allowed vs. the average opponent – .296 which ranks 25th. That’s the best ranking the Irish have had in that category since Haslam Metrics started tracking in 2014.
- Last time out, it was the tale of the good and the bad. The bad was the first half. The Irish shot a season low 28.1 percent and faced a 19-point halftime deficit at 24-43. The good was the second half. They scored a season best 51 points in a half on 60.0 percent shooting. Tae Davis scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half. Now, the Irish have to rebound from a tough 75-86 loss at Georgia Tech with UNC on Saturday.
- Freshman guard Sir Mohammed made his return from injury in the Georgia Tech game on Dec. 31. He had been out since the second game of the season back on Nov. 11.
- J.R. Konieczny is averaging 10.5 ppg in the two ACC games this year, which is third-best on the team. J.R. is shooting 8-18 (.444) from the floor and 3-7 from three (.429).
