  • Why isn’t Christian McCaffrey playing for the 49ers against the Dolphins in week 16?

Why isn’t Christian McCaffrey playing for the 49ers against the Dolphins in week 16?

The running back remains out on injured reserve with San Francisco’s postseason dream fading.

Compared to last season, the 2024 campaign has been a huge disappointment for the San Francisco 49ers. Just 10 months ago, the Niners were facing the Chiefs at Super Bowl LVIII but now Kyle Shanahan’s team are 6-8, occupying last place in the NFC West and practically without options of making the playoffs.

And to make matters worse, they have been without Christian McCaffrey, the 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, and and their top receiver Brandon Aiyuk for much of the campaign.

Which 49ers games will McCaffrey miss?

A calf strain kept the 28-year-old sidelined throughout the whole preseason and he missed the first eight games of the season due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis. He returned in Week 10 for the matchup against the Bucs but lasted another three games before being placed on injury reserve.

McCaffrey suffered a posterior cruciate ligament injury in Week 13 against the Buffalo Bills which will keep him out of action for six weeks. That means the former Carolina Panthers star won’t play again during the regular season.

He will miss games against the Miami Dolphins (December 22), Detroit Lions (30) and Arizona Cardinals (early January, date TBC), although given how things sit, there looks to be a real chance we don’t see him again until the 2025 season.

Elsewhere, defensive lineman Nick Bosa (hip/oblique) and linebacker Dre Greenlaw (Achilles) are both questionable heading into the Dolphins game. Trent Williams (ankle) and Isaac Guerendo (foot) are both ruled out.

The 49ers’ chances of making it to the postseason

Should the six-week layoff prove to be correct, McCaffrey would be fit to return to action sometime around January 13, the day the wild-card playoff round is due to finish. However, the chances of the 49ers being involved have faded substantially.

Three defeats in a row left the Californians bottom of NFC West with a 6-8 record, the 11th best in the conference. The Rams and the Seahawks top the division both on 8-6, and the Niners could mathematically still sneak into the playoffs without winning the division, although that doesn’t look to be particularly realistic at this stage of the game.

There has been much speculation as to why star running back Christian McCaffrey is not playing for the San Francisco 49ers in their week 16 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.

One possible reason could be due to an injury. McCaffrey has dealt with various injuries throughout his career, including a shoulder injury that sidelined him for several games earlier in the season. It’s possible that he is still not fully recovered and the coaching staff is choosing to err on the side of caution by keeping him out of the lineup.

Another reason could be related to COVID-19 protocols. With the ongoing pandemic, teams are being extra cautious when it comes to player health and safety. It’s possible that McCaffrey may have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for the virus, and as a result, he is being held out of the game as a precaution.

Ultimately, the exact reason for McCaffrey’s absence may not be known until the team provides an official statement. In the meantime, fans will have to wait and see how the 49ers fare without their star player in the lineup.

DeeJay Dallas Week 17 Outlook for Fantasy Football (2024)

    Link copied to clipboard!

1 day agoArizona Cardinals running back DeeJay Dallas may see some added snaps on Saturday since James Conner (knee) and Trey Benson (ankle) are both considered questionable. Dallas received one target and no carries in their last game against the Panthers, but he did turn it into a touchdown. That was his first offensive touchdown since 2021. The last time he started a game was in 2020 with the Seahawks, and his two starts produced mixed results. The Los Angeles Rams are in the middle of the pack against the opposing backfields as they allow 20.0 fantasy points per game in half-PPR formats. Dallas, even if he gets extra opportunities, isn’t a reliable option for fantasy managers looking to win their championship.Alex Fischbein – RotoBaller

DeeJay Dallas Week 17 Outlook for Fantasy Football (2024)

As we head into the final week of the fantasy football season, DeeJay Dallas is a player who could make a big impact for your team. With injuries to key players in the Seattle Seahawks backfield, Dallas has seen an increased role in recent weeks and has been productive when given the opportunity.

In Week 16, Dallas had a solid performance, rushing for over 70 yards and adding a touchdown. He also contributed in the passing game, catching a few passes out of the backfield. With the Seahawks facing a favorable matchup in Week 17 against a struggling defense, Dallas could be in line for another strong outing.

While he may not be a top-tier running back option, Dallas has shown that he can be a reliable flex play or RB2 in fantasy lineups. If you’re in need of a running back for Week 17, consider rolling the dice on DeeJay Dallas and reaping the rewards of his potential breakout performance.

  • NFL Week 17 injury tracker: Tua Tagovailoa downgraded to doubtful, Joe Flacco to start for Colts

NFL Week 17 injury tracker: Tua Tagovailoa downgraded to doubtful, Joe Flacco to start for Colts

Perhaps the only thing longer than a Christmas wishlist are NFL injury reports, especially this late in the season. Every team is dealing with some sort of injury issue with the regular season nearing a close.

The Eagles will be without Jalen Hurts for Saturday’s game against the Cowboys. Hurts, who is still in the concussion protocol, will watch as backup quarterback Kenny Pickett will try to help Philadelphia clinch a spot in the NFC playoffs. Their opponent will be without wideout CeeDee Lamb, who was shut down for the year earlier this week.

Miami has downgraded Tua Tagovailoa to doubtful at Cleveland due to a hip injury, per report. Tagovailoa is pushing to play Sunday, but if he can’t, Tyler Huntley would be in line to replace him.

Below is a full rundown of each team’s final Week 17 injury report. We’ll be updating this throughout the evening as more injury reports come in.

Higgins’ health reportedly improved as the week progressed. Given the importance of Saturday’s game (the Bengals need a win in order to keep their playoff hopes alive), the expectation is that Higgins will at least try to give it a go.

Each of Arizona’s questionable players were limited all week. Conner is reportedly trending in the right direction regarding his status against the Rams.

The biggest news out of Philadelphia is that Hurts will be sidelined, leaving Kenny Pickett to lead the offense. For the Cowboys, Tolbert and Brooks were both limited the past two days. Expect increased targets for fellow wideouts Brandin Cooks and KaVontae Turpin.

Hubbard and Legette were limited the past two days. In Tampa, Johnson, Whitehead and Britt were full practice participants all week.

Adams was limited on Friday after not practicing the previous two days. Adams is hoping to play so he can possibly catch Aaron Rodgers‘ 500th career touchdown pass. Adams caught Rodgers’ 200 and 400th touchdown passes during their time together in Green Bay.

In Buffalo, each of the team’s questionable players were limited throughout the week.

Richardson did not practice all week. Given that, it’s certainly possible that the Colts’ offense will be led once again by Joe Flacco, the soon-to-be 40-year-old who temporarily replaced Richardson in the starting lineup earlier this season.

In New York, Nabers was limited on Friday after not practicing the previous two days. Giants head coach Brian Daboll said that he is hopeful that Nabers will suit up against the Colts.

The Raiders had a short injury report this week, with just Meredith given a game designation. For the Saints, it’s possible that Kamara has played his final down this season, given his injury and the fact that the Saints are out of playoff contention. Look for second-year running back Kendre Miller to get an expanded role in the offense from here on out.

None of the Titans’ questionable players were able to practice on Friday.

Waddle was limited the past two days after not practicing on Wednesday. Hill and Tagovailoa were limited all week. Their statuses may be determined by what happens on Saturday. Miami will be eliminated from playoff contention if the Chargers and Broncos both win.

Watson didn’t practice all week. Despite that, Packers coach Matt LaFleur has kept the door open for Watson to play as he his health has continued to improve.

For the Vikings, Pace was a full participant all week, so his chances of playing are looking good.

Allen will likely be activated off of injured reserve as he was a full participant all week.

In the latest injury news heading into Week 17 of the NFL season, Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been downgraded to doubtful for their matchup against the New England Patriots. Tagovailoa is dealing with a thumb injury and it appears that he may not be able to suit up for this crucial game.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Colts will be starting veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in place of the injured Carson Wentz. Wentz suffered a foot injury in Week 16 and will be unable to play in the Colts’ must-win game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Stay tuned for more updates on these and other key injuries as we head into the final week of the NFL regular season.

Adam Trautman Fantasy Week 17: Projections vs. Bengals, Points and Stats, Start or Sit

As fantasy football managers gear up for the final week of the regular season, one player worth keeping an eye on is New Orleans Saints’ tight end Adam Trautman. In Week 17, Trautman and the Saints will face off against the Cincinnati Bengals, and Trautman could be in for a productive outing.

Projections for Trautman in Week 17 against the Bengals are looking promising, with experts predicting him to potentially rack up double-digit points. With his ability to find the end zone and make plays in the passing game, Trautman could be a solid option for fantasy managers in need of a tight end.

    Share:

    Link copied to clipboard!

1 day agoDenver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. has been more productive in recent weeks but will still be hard to trust in fantasy championship matchups in most leagues in Week 17 when the Broncos travel to Cincinnati to face the Bengals on Saturday in a game with huge playoff implications for both teams. Mims has scored both of his touchdowns on the year in the last five games and also has at least 40 yards in four of his last five games, including a 100-yard performance in Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns. However, the 22-year-old second-year wideout played a season-high 47% of the snaps in last week’s loss to the division-rival Los Angeles Chargers, and the most targets he’s seen in a game in 2024 is five. Mims has plenty of big-play ability with the ball in his hands and will be facing a vulnerable Bengals defense, but his lack of consistent involvement in the offense makes him a flex play to avoid in most leagues.Keith Hernandez – RotoBaller

Marvin Mims Jr. Week 17 Outlook for Fantasy Football (2024)

As we head into the final week of the fantasy football season, Marvin Mims Jr. is a player to keep an eye on. The talented wide receiver has been a consistent performer for his team all season long, and he has the potential to put up big numbers in Week 17.

Mims has shown a strong connection with his quarterback and has the ability to make big plays down the field. He has the speed and agility to break away from defenders and create scoring opportunities for his team.

In Week 17, Mims will be facing a favorable matchup against a weak secondary, giving him the opportunity to exploit their weaknesses and put up some big fantasy points. He should be a solid WR2 or flex option for fantasy owners looking for a high-upside play.

Keep an eye on Marvin Mims Jr. this week and consider starting him in your fantasy lineup for a chance at a big performance in the final week of the season.

    Courtland Sutton vs. Bengals

Here are several relevant data points on the Bengals defense Sutton will be matching up against:

  • Cincinnati has allowed five players to pick up more than 100 receiving yards in a game this season.
  • 25 players have hauled in a touchdown against the Bengals this season.
  • One player has caught more than one touchdown pass against Cincinnati this season.

  • Courtland Sutton Fantasy Week 17: Projections vs. Bengals, Points and Stats, Start or Sit

The Denver Broncos will be facing off against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17, and fantasy owners will be looking to Courtland Sutton to put up some solid numbers.

Sutton has been a consistent performer for the Broncos this season, racking up 57 receptions for 789 yards and four touchdowns. He has proven to be a reliable target for quarterback Drew Lock and has the ability to make big plays down the field.

In Week 17, Sutton will be going up against a Bengals defense that has struggled against the pass, giving up an average of 251.5 passing yards per game. This could bode well for Sutton, as he has the potential to exploit their weaknesses and put up some big numbers.

Projections for Sutton in Week 17 against the Bengals are looking promising, with experts predicting he could have around 80-100 receiving yards and a touchdown. This could translate to around 15-20 fantasy points for Sutton, making him a solid start option for fantasy owners.

Overall, Courtland Sutton looks to be a strong play for Week 17 against the Bengals. With his big-play ability and favorable matchup, fantasy owners should feel confident in starting him and expecting solid production from the talented wide receiver.

Is Courtland Sutton playing today? Broncos WR’s status explored for Week 17

When the Denver Broncos visit the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 17, wide receiver Courtland Sutton will try to get back on the scoresheet in a game that has significant postseason ramifications for both teams.

The veteran wideout will be looking to help the Broncos beat Cincinnati in Week 17, as that would help Denver clinch its first postseason berth since 2015.

Exploring Courtland Sutton’s availability status for Week 17

Wide receiver Courtland Sutton is not dealing with any injury concerns and is expected to be in action when the Denver Broncos visit the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Saturday.

Looking to predict NFL playoff Scenarios? Try our NFL Playoff Predictor for real-time simulations and stay ahead of the game!

The 29-year-old receiver has been durable this season, as he is yet to miss any game for the Broncos. Barring any late injury setbacks in pregame warm-ups, he is expected to make his 16th appearance of the season on Saturday.

The Broncos have a relatively clean injury report going into the game, as only one player on the team is carrying an injury designation into Week 17. RB Tyler Badie is dealing with a back injury that saw him designated “questionable” for the game, even though he didn’t miss any practice during the week.

Has Courtland Sutton been good this season?

As he continues to gel with rookie quarterback Bo Nix, Courtland Sutton has played some of his best football of the season in recent weeks. He has caught 29 passes from 42 targets for 359 yards and three scores in his last five games.

This season, Sutton has been above average overall, with great physical qualities and the ability to occasionally make big plays. But because of his inconsistent output and dependence on particular circumstances to perform well, he hasn’t been regarded as one of the best receivers.

Sutton has caught 71 passes for 928 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 15 games this season.

How to watch Denver Broncos vs. Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17?

The game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Denver Broncos is one of three games scheduled for Saturday of the second to last week of the 2024 NFL regular season.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Denver was not thought to be a postseason contender, but under rookie quarterback Bo Nix, the team has become one of the NFL’s biggest surprise packages. The Bengals, on the other hand, were predicted to contend in the AFC this season, but inconsistent defensive performances have left them outside the playoff picture in Week 17.

To remain in the running for the playoffs, the Bengals need to win on Saturday at Paycor Stadium. Meanwhile, a victory for the Broncos would guarantee them a spot in the postseason. If the club loses today but beats the Kansas City Chiefs, who have been guaranteed the No. 1 seed in the AFC, in Week 18, they will still qualify for the playoffs.

We’ve included all the information you need to watch the game, including the TV schedule, below:
