NFL has one crazy playoff-clinching scenario for Week 17: How Bills and Bengals could help Rams win NFC West

The NFL playoff race always gets a little crazy down the stretch, and things could get especially crazy for the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

The Seahawks needed a win over the Chicago Bears on Thursday night to keep their playoff hopes alive, and although it was a struggle at times, Seattle came away with a 6-3 victory. Thanks to the win, the Seahawks will likely have a chance to clinch the NFC West in Week 18, but it’s not guaranteed, and that’s because the Rams could still win the NFC West this weekend by clinching the STRENGTH OF VICTORY tiebreaker.

In what is easily the craziest playoff-clinching scenario of Week 17, the Rams could win the division by potentially getting some help from multiple AFC teams, including the Bills and Bengals

For this crazy scenario to come into play, here’s what would have to happen first:

    • Seahawks beat Bears on Thursday night (Seahawks won 6-3)
    • Rams beat Cardinals on Saturday night

If both those things happen, the Rams would need to get at least 3.5 wins from the following six teams to clinch the strength of victory tiebreaker (To get 3.5 wins from the group below, the Rams would need three wins and one tie, but the most realistic scenario would be to get four wins):

This means that if the Rams win on Saturday night, the Seahawks will be closely watching several AFC GAMES on Sunday to find out if they’re still going to be alive in the playoff race heading into Week 18.

The crazy thing here is that not only are all six teams playing at home, but three of them — Bills, Bengals and Commanders — are favored to win. The Browns and 49ers are both underdogs while the Packers-Vikings game has flipped a couple of times this week when it comes to who’s favored.

The bottom line, though, is that if the Rams win on Saturday night, they could have to wait until Monday night to find out if they’ve clinched the NFC West.

If they don’t clinch this week, it will set up a showdown in Los Angeles between the Seahawks and Rams in Week 18.

If you want to check out all 14 clinching scenarios that are in play around the NFL during Week 17, you can do that here

As the NFL regular season comes to a close, the playoff picture is starting to take shape. However, there is one crazy scenario that could see the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals playing a pivotal role in determining the winner of the NFC West division.

Currently, the Los Angeles Rams and the Arizona Cardinals are neck and neck in the race for the NFC West crown. Both teams have identical 11-5 records heading into Week 17, with the Rams holding the tiebreaker thanks to a better divisional record.

Now, here’s where things get interesting. If the Rams were to lose to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17, and the Cardinals were to beat the Seattle Seahawks, the two teams would finish the season with identical 11-6 records. In this scenario, the Cardinals would win the tiebreaker and the NFC West title.

But, there’s a twist. If the Bills were to beat the New York Jets and the Bengals were to beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 17, the Rams would actually win the NFC West despite losing to the 49ers. How is this possible? It all comes down to strength of victory tiebreakers, and the Bills and Bengals winning would improve the Rams’ strength of victory just enough to give them the edge over the Cardinals.

So, as the Bills and Bengals take the field in Week 17, they may not only be playing for their own playoff hopes, but also for the fate of the NFC West. It’s a crazy playoff-clinching scenario that could have Rams fans cheering for teams they never thought they would be rooting for. Stay tuned for what promises to be an exciting Week 17 in the NFL.

  • Cooper Kupp Week 17 Outlook – Cardinals at Rams (2024)

Cooper Kupp Week 17 Outlook – Cardinals at Rams (2024)

By Derek Brown (FantasyPros), Fri, Dec 27th 2024, 9:05am EST

Since Week 8, Kupp has been the WR24 in fantasy points per game, as he has seen seven red zone targets. He has faceplanted in three of his last four games as he has failed to surpass 30 receiving yards in those games. Kupp should have a bounceback game against the Cardinals this week. Since Week 10, Arizona has had the highest two high rate in the NFL (61.5%). Since Week 8, against two high, Kupp has had a 23.9% target share, 2.74 YPRR, and a 29.3% first-read share. Arizona has also been giving to slot receivers. Since Week 11, the Cardinals have allowed the 14th-most fantasy points per game and the third-most PPR points per target to slot receivers.

Cooper Kupp Week 17 Outlook – Cardinals at Rams (2024)

As the regular season comes to a close, the Los Angeles Rams are set to take on the Arizona Cardinals in a crucial Week 17 matchup. One player who will be key to the Rams’ success in this game is star wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

Kupp has been a standout performer for the Rams all season, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns. His chemistry with quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a major factor in the team’s offensive success, and he will look to continue that trend against the Cardinals.

The Cardinals boast a solid defense, but Kupp has shown time and time again that he can produce against even the toughest opponents. His route running, hands, and ability to make big plays after the catch make him a dangerous weapon for the Rams.

In this Week 17 matchup, Kupp will likely be matched up against the Cardinals’ top cornerback, but that shouldn’t deter fantasy managers from starting him with confidence. Kupp has proven to be a reliable fantasy option week in and week out, and he should be in line for another strong performance in this crucial game.

Look for Kupp to be heavily involved in the Rams’ game plan as they look to secure a playoff spot with a win over the Cardinals. Fantasy managers can expect another solid outing from Kupp, making him a must-start in Week 17.

  • Five players have recorded more than 100 receiving yards in a game against Cincinnati this season.
  • The Bengals have given up a touchdown pass to 25 players this season.

Projections vs. Bengals:
Humphrey is projected to have a solid outing against the Bengals, who have struggled against opposing wide receivers this season. With Michael Thomas likely out again, Humphrey could see an increased role in the Saints’ passing attack.

Points and Stats:
In his last two games, Humphrey has recorded 10 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. He has shown good chemistry with quarterback Taysom Hill and could be in line for another productive game against the Bengals.

Start or Sit:
Fantasy managers should consider starting Humphrey as a flex option or WR3 in Week 17. With the potential for a high-scoring game against the Bengals, Humphrey could be a sneaky play with plenty of upside.

Overall, Lil’Jordan Humphrey could be a valuable asset for fantasy managers in Week 17. Keep an eye on his performance leading up to game day and consider starting him in your lineup for a potential breakout performance.

  • Week 17 NFL Player Props: What Can Brown Do for You?

Week 17 NFL Player Props: What Can Brown Do for You?

Welcome to the final installment of my weekly NFL player props column for the 2024 season. I clinched a winning season two weeks ago and need to hit two of three this week to end up exactly at 60 percent for the year. Hopefully, that means I have helped some of you along the way. Let’s finish strong with three of my favorite Week 17 NFL player props. As always, these numbers and prices are subject to change. Make sure you shop around to maximize your profits and minimize your losses.

    NFL Week 17 Player Props

Chase Brown OVER 25.5 Receiving Yards (-115, Fanatics)

Chase Brown has been one of the most productive running backs this season. He has been a bell-cow back since Zack Moss suffered a season-ending injury in Week 8. Brown has at least 20 touches in six of seven games since Moss’ injury. Much of that work has come as a pass-catcher out of the backfield. Brown has averaged 4.9 receptions and 39.3 receiving yards in those seven contests. He has at least 30 receiving yards in five of seven. I expect more of the same on Saturday when the Bengals host the Denver Broncos. Brown’s receiving yards are one of my favorite Week 17 NFL player props.

Denver enters Saturday’s game with the sixth-best pass defense based on DVOA. However, they rank just 30th in the passing game versus opposing running backs. The Broncos lead the NFL in terms of pressure and sack rate. Teams have succeeded against Denver with quick throws to running backs to offset Denver’s pass rush. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is less than 100 percent due to wrist and knee injuries. Cincinnati would be wise to design some quick passes to Brown to get the ball out of Burrow’s hand quickly. This matchup sets up for Brown to provide plenty of receiving production. You can play Brown to record at least 25 receiving yards for -130 on ESPNBet. I will risk the hook and play Brown to end up with at least 26 yards at a much more palatable price.

Anthony Richardson UNDER 26.5 Pass Attempts (-114, FanDuel)

What’s better than sweating out a bet on an under? Well, lots of things, probably. But I am willing to sweat this one out for multiple reasons. Let’s start with the Indianapolis offense. The Colts do not want Anthony Richardson throwing the ball very often. In five games since returning to the starting lineup, Richardson has thrown the ball 81 times through the first three quarters. He has thrown the ball 50 times in the fourth quarters of those five games. Richardson’s passing attempts have been extremely dependent on the game script. That is important because Indianapolis is a 7.5-point favorite against the New York Giants, the worst team in the NFL. If this game goes according to plan, the Colts will let Jonathan Taylor do most of the heavy lifting.

Richardson is also dealing with back and foot injuries heading into this week’s matchup. The Colts are optimistic that he will play. However, Richardson could be limited in this game. Richardson’s injuries will probably limit his opportunities in the run game but may also affect his passing ability. Depending on Saturday’s results, the Colts may also be eliminated from the AFC playoff picture before they play on Sunday. If they are out of the playoff picture, they may not want a hobbled Richardson overdoing it in a meaningless game. The expected game script is the main reason I like this play, but it always helps to have additional outs. I am picking Anthony Richardson to record fewer than 26.5 pass attempts in this game.

Brock Purdy 250+ Passing Yards (-118, BetRivers)

Brock Purdy is averaging 249 passing yards per game this season. Based on that, it would make sense that the sportsbooks are posting his Week 17 passing line right around that mark. However, they fail to consider a couple of factors we can use to our advantage. First is Purdy’s Week 17 matchup with the Detroit Lions. Detroit is the most explosive offense in the league, averaging nearly 33 points per game. They are also dealing with a myriad of injuries on the defensive end. Both issues have led to the Lions allowing a lot of passing production in recent weeks. Opposing quarterbacks have averaged 290 passing yards on 8.71 yards per attempt in Detroit’s last four games.

While Purdy’s yardage totals have been wildly inconsistent lately, lousy weather has been chiefly to blame. San Francisco played the Buffalo Bills in a snowstorm in Week 13. Purdy threw for just 94 yards in the loss, while MVP frontrunner Josh Allen finished with just 148. The 49ers were back home in Week 15, but heavy rain prohibited Purdy from producing in the passing game. He finished with only 142 passing yards, while his counterpart, Matthew Stafford, finished with 160. If you remove those two games from the equation, Purdy is averaging 270.9 passing yards and has surpassed this number in eight of 12 games. This number should be closer to 275 than 250, so I will gladly take the lower number at a neutral price point.

In Week 17 of the NFL season, all eyes will be on star wide receiver Antonio Brown as he looks to make an impact for his new team. With the playoffs on the line, Brown will be looking to prove his worth and show just what he can do on the field.

Here are some player props to keep an eye on for Antonio Brown in Week 17:

    1. Total Receiving Yards: Over/Under 100 yards
Brown has been known for his ability to rack up big yardage in the passing game, and he will be looking to do just that in Week 17. Look for Brown to potentially go over the 100-yard mark as he looks to make a statement in a crucial game.

    2. Total Touchdowns: Over/Under 1.5 touchdowns
Brown is always a threat to find the end zone, and he will be looking to do just that in Week 17. Look for Brown to potentially score multiple touchdowns as he looks to help his team secure a playoff spot.

    3. Total Receptions: Over/Under 8 receptions
Brown is a favorite target for his quarterback, and he will likely see plenty of targets in Week 17. Look for Brown to potentially haul in over 8 receptions as he looks to move the chains and make plays for his team.

Overall, Antonio Brown will be a key player to watch in Week 17 as he looks to make a big impact for his team. Keep an eye on these player props to see just what Brown can do for you in this crucial game.

  • Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 17: Tee Higgins, Chase Brown

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 17: Tee Higgins, Chase Brown

The Cincinnati Bengals (7-8) will host the Denver Broncos (9-6) for their final home game on Saturday afternoon in Week 17.

This contest has playoff implications for both franchises. A win for Cincinnati will keep their hopes alive heading into Week 18. Denver can clinch a spot in the postseason with a victory and knock out the Bengals.

With the season on the line for Cincinnati, it should benefit the fantasy football managers of a pair of players that you can put in your lineups this weekend.

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Tee Higgins

Higgins is coming off a solid outing against the Cleveland Browns in Week 16, in which he finished with eight catches for 58 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets. He has received double-digit targets in three of his last five games and has a touchdown in five of his last six games.

This weekend Higgins will be facing a Denver defense that hasn’t been kind to receivers this season. Per Pro Football Reference, they are tied for the fifth-fewest PPG to receivers and are the only team in the NFL to allow less than 10 receiving touchdowns to the position.

That might tell you to sit Higgins but the Broncos haven’t been as tough on the position as of late. In their last four games, there have been five receivers to finish with at least 80 receiving yards, and three of those receivers crossed the 100 receiving-yard mark.

Higgins is a low-end WR2 in Week 16 who can overcome his matchup because of the volume of targets he can see and how great Joe Burrow has been this season. He’s worth the risk if he is active on Saturday

    Verdict: Start ‘Em

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em: Chase Brown

If you are reading this then that likely means Brown has helped carry your fantasy football team to the championship game. He has finished with at least 15 touches and 100 total yards in his last five outings.

This Saturday he will face a Denver defense that is tied for the 13th-fewest allowed PPG to running backs this season per Pro Football Reference. They are one of the 11 teams in the league that hasn’t allowed double-digit rushing touchdowns to the position but are tied for the second-most allowed receiving touchdowns (six) to running backs.

The Broncos defense has only allowed one running back to finish over 75 total yards in their last four games, which was Jonathan Taylor. In those contests, they gave up five touchdowns to the position but should be six if JT didn’t infamously drop the ball before crossing the endzone

Brown is on a hot streak heading into Week 17 and you can’t sit players that got you to this point. Leave him in your lineups.

    Verdict: Start ‘Em

Fantasy Football Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em Week 17: Tee Higgins, Chase Brown

As we head into the final week of the fantasy football season, it’s crucial to make smart decisions with your lineup. Two players that fantasy owners should consider starting or sitting in Week 17 are Tee Higgins and Chase Brown.

    Start ‘Em: Tee Higgins

Higgins has been on fire recently, posting back-to-back 100-yard games and scoring a touchdown in each of his last three outings. He has developed a strong rapport with quarterback Joe Burrow and is seeing plenty of targets in the Bengals’ high-powered offense. In Week 17, Higgins faces a favorable matchup against a weak secondary in the Kansas City Chiefs. Look for him to continue his hot streak and put up big numbers for fantasy owners.

    Sit ‘Em: Chase Brown

On the other hand, fantasy owners may want to consider sitting Chase Brown in Week 17. Brown has been inconsistent this season and is facing a tough matchup against a stout defense in the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the potential for limited touches and a tough matchup, Brown may struggle to put up fantasy points this week. It’s best to look for other options at the running back position if possible.

Overall, Tee Higgins is a strong start option for fantasy owners in Week 17, while Chase Brown may be better off on the bench. Make sure to consider matchups and recent performance when making your lineup decisions for the final week of the season. Good luck!

Week 17 Prediction: Chase Brown More Than 26.5 Receiving Yards

Before a 24-6 win over the Dorian ThompsonRobinson-led Browns and a blowout win over the Titans which saw the Bengals lead 31-14 in the early third quarter and salt away the win, Brown hit 30 or more receiving yards in every game he played without Zack Moss in the lineup this season.

Since Week 9, the Broncos rank #31 against running back passes, allowing 8.7 yards per attempt.

They also rank #24 in success rate allowed to RB passes.

Meanwhile, the Broncos’ strength is against tight ends, where they rank #2 in YPA and #3 in success rate.

Additionally, the Broncos just got back Riley Moss, and Brown’s teammate Tee Higgins has been limited all week in practice.

If the Bengals see the clear data before their eyes, this sets up for them to target Brown out of the backfield at an above average rate to take advantage of the Broncos’ weaknesses.

And in a must-win game which should see some back-and-forth scoring, I expect to see enough opportunity for Brown to clear this mark.

Week 17 is here and it’s time to make some player picks for your fantasy football lineup. One player to keep an eye on this week is Chase Brown of the Chicago Bears. Brown has been heating up in recent weeks and could be a valuable asset in your lineup.

In Week 16, Brown put up an impressive 112 receiving yards and a touchdown against the Seattle Seahawks. This week, he faces off against the Minnesota Vikings, who have struggled defensively against opposing wide receivers.

With the Bears likely playing catch-up against the Vikings, Brown could see plenty of targets and have the opportunity to put up big numbers in the receiving yards department. Look for him to continue his hot streak and be a reliable option for your fantasy team.

Make sure to keep an eye on Chase Brown and consider adding him to your lineup for Week 17. Good luck with your fantasy matchups!

Week 17 Start/Sit Advice and Fantasy Projection

Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone fantasy managers received a boost to their projections on Saturday when the Carolina Panthers were forced to place Chuba Hubbard on IR. However, it leaves Hubbard managers scrambling to become managers of Blackshear or Boone via the waiver wire.

Of course, with only one spot freed up, most managers will be forced to choose between Blackshear and Boone. Here’s a look at both players and a recommendation.

Is Raheem Blackshear a good pick in Week 17?

Without Hubbard, the Carolina Panthers are forced to choose between Blackshear and Boone. According to Sportskeeda’s Start/Sit Optimizer, Blackshear is in for a productive day, but far from a breakout day. He is expected to earn 9.7 points against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

If it is between the injured Hubbard and Blackshear in Week 17, take Blackshear. At this point, he is a decent option off the waiver wire as a stand-in flex. However, you may have a bench running back with which you would be better off.

Is Mike Boone a good pick in Week 17?

Mike Boone is the other main option for managers looking to maintain a foothold in the Panthers backfield. According to Sportskeeda’s Start/Sit Optimizer, expect Boone to earn just 4.4 points.

At this point, most waiver wire running backs available this week on the waiver wire could earn about the same number of points. Boone should be avoided in Week 17 unless you have no other options.

Whom should I start between Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone in Week 17?

Raheem Blackshear and Mike Boone offer a difficult choice to managers racing with potentially the other remaining manager(s). With little time to make a choice, many are going with their gut. However, those who have taken a moment to do some research first will feel much more confident about Blackshear.

Expect Blackshear to outperform Boone in Week 17, 9.7 points to 4.4 points, per Sportskeeda’s Start/Sit Optimizer. While neither running back is expected to make managers forget about Hubbard this week, it might be enough to spell one’s way to a fantasy championship. Put simply, go with Blackshear this week.
