If you’ve been feeling like your life is dull and insignificant, Wednesday’s full moon in Leo invites you to find, or create, some excitement. While a bit of tedium here and there is inevitable, you shouldn’t feel like it defines your whole existence. Then, on Friday morning, Mercury moves from eccentric Aquarius into intuitive Pisces, where it’ll stay until early March. For the next two weeks, you might struggle to think rationally through tricky situations and important decisions. When you’re at a loss for what to do next, see what happens if you rely on intuition instead.

You’re not the sort of person to rest on your laurels after a job well done: As soon as you reach one goal, you’re immediately on to the next. You know that there are always more skills to hone, more people to meet, more of the world to explore. This week, just make sure that you’re not brushing off your accomplishments too quickly. Take some time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. Life’s big wins can be few and far between, so when they arrive, make the most of them.

In the interest of making progress toward your goals and staying principled, you tend to set a lot of rules for yourself. The clearer your agenda and the stricter the guidelines, the less room there is for error. This week, though, leave room to loosen, possibly even abandon, some of the restrictions you’ve put on yourself. As the world around you changes, and as you grow and evolve, you need to adapt. If the old rules no longer work for you, let them go.

With your quick wit and your keen sense for social dynamics, you know how to work a room. You can charm even the most humorless of people. Sometimes, though, you worry that as much as everybody enjoys your company, they forget that beneath your goofy exterior, you have a deep intellect and big ideas to share, too. This week, remember that you can’t force anyone else to take you seriously — but you’ll be surprised by what a difference it makes when you make a point of respecting yourself.

In general, you prefer to find common ground with others than to focus on your differences. You imagine that focusing on the points of conflict will only heighten any existing tensions. Sometimes, though, this approach means that you end up downplaying your own completely valid opinions. So this week, don’t be afraid to stand firm in what you believe, even if it creates friction with the people around you. Disagreement doesn’t have to be unpleasant — right now, it might even be fun.

You’ve done your best to be open-minded lately. Instead of leaping into action, you’ve been a bit more cautious, focusing instead on taking in new information, thinking through ideas you’ve never given serious consideration before, and adjusting to changes in your life. This week, it might be time to close your ears to the constant buzz of everyone else’s opinions. You’ve learned a lot, and now you deserve some peace and quiet so that you can put all that new knowledge to use.

It can feel like you spend all your time cleaning up other people’s messes. Somebody has to step up and do the unglamorous jobs, and when nobody else is willing, it all ends up falling on you. If you’ve taken on so much that you have no time left to recharge and no energy left to do the things that make you happy, it’s time to take a step back. It isn’t selfish to set boundaries — you aren’t responsible for carrying the world on your shoulders.

Lately, your schedule feels jam-packed. It’s not a bad thing — a full calendar is a sign that you’re in demand, engaged in your community, surrounded by people who love you — but it can get stressful. This week, try to leave yourself some free time. It’ll make it possible to decompress if you need to — and, just as importantly, it’ll give you the freedom to be spontaneous, to accept spur-of-the-moment invitations, and to follow your desires and curiosities, not just your schedule.

You possess a healthy self-esteem, but no one is totally impervious to criticism and self-doubt. Lately, you feel like your confidence is on shaky ground, and you need just one big win to restore it. You might get what you’ve been looking for this week, but even if you don’t, you can still return to your fearless self: The key is simply to fake it. The more confident you seem, the more everyone around you will believe it — and before long, you’ll believe, too.

Though you’re bold by nature, you aren’t foolish, so you generally try to think through plans before making any dramatic leaps. You’ve learned through experience that even a loose strategy is better than none at all. This week, just remember that it’s not possible to think through everything ahead of time. At a certain point, you’ve done all the thought and research that you can. Even if you don’t feel ready, you just need to trust that you’ll learn as you go.

You worry, sometimes, that nobody will respect you unless you’re virtually flawless. If you want to be loved, you imagine you need to hide your imperfections, make all the right choices and say all the right things, and pretend you’ve never made a mistake in your life. The problem with this mind-set, of course, is that you end up putting so much energy into appearing perfect that you start to forget who you are deep down. This week, remember your inherent worth, and stop worrying so much about doing everything “right.”

You’d never let other people’s ideas about the world dictate the way you think. You worry that relying on popular wisdom means you’ll remain perpetually stuck in the status quo, and that putting all your faith in tradition means you’ll never break new ground. Your independence is valuable — just be careful this week not to let it isolate you. If you’re stuck, ask your friends for advice. If you’re mulling over a new idea, get someone else’s input. Other people’s opinions can clarify your own thinking, even — maybe especially — if they disagree.

You aren’t someone to overhype yourself — if anything, you tend to undervalue your skills while simultaneously lavishing praise on everyone else’s. Everything you know how to do strikes you as unimpressive, while other people’s gifts seem fascinating and mysterious. But while it’s important to maintain a certain amount of humility, dismissing your own talents helps nobody. This week, operate from the assumption that everyone, including you, has valuable contributions to make.

  • Our now weekly praise of Jacob Fatu

This week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown was all about building to the Royal Rumble and preparing Indianapolis for what will undoubtedly be one of the biggest shows of the year. And with that, we got official word that one of the most charismatic guys on the roster will indeed be in the men’s Royal Rumble match.

    None other than Jacob Fatu.

It seems as though this space has become a weekly column praising “The Samoan Werewolf” and that’s because he just keeps delivering the goods week after week. This time out, he cut an awesome promo putting over Damian Priest leading to a tag team match later in the show. He looked incredible here, and he made Priest look incredible here:

You can’t ask for much more than that, really. He’s now getting consistent mic time, rocking a catchphrase, and making “holy shit” moments with every wrestler he’s in the ring with, no matter who it may be.

Later in the show, they teased Fatu and Tama Tonga going after the tag team titles too.

    This is fun.

Anyway, here are all the highlights from SmackDown this week right here:

Our now weekly praise of Jacob Fatu

Jacob Fatu is undoubtedly one of the most dominant and talented wrestlers in the industry today. From his jaw-dropping athleticism to his undeniable charisma, Fatu continues to captivate audiences every time he steps into the ring.

Whether he’s dominating his opponents with his impressive strength or flying high with his breathtaking aerial maneuvers, Fatu always leaves a lasting impression. His in-ring presence is unmatched, and his ability to command the crowd is truly remarkable.

As we continue to witness the rise of Jacob Fatu, we can’t help but praise his incredible talent and undeniable star power. Each week, he reminds us why he is a true standout in the world of wrestling, and we can’t wait to see what he does next. Cheers to Jacob Fatu, a true champion in every sense of the word.

  • Transfer window weekly: Nkunku pushing for Chelsea exit; Tel eyes Premier League move

The transfer window is open across Europe as clubs look to do some midseason business. But what are ESPN’s reporters hearing about possible deals?

Every Friday in January, we’ll bring you the latest updates and insights on the biggest transfer news.

Will Christopher Nkunku be at Chelsea on Feb. 4?

Nkunku is determined to leave Chelsea in the next few days. The France international forward is not happy about being a fringe player for Enzo Maresca’s team, where he features mostly as a starter in the UEFA Conference League. He has told the Blues’ hierarchy that he wants to find a new project, and the club are not against letting him leave if their valuation is matched. However, they want to recoup the €60m they spent to sign him from RB Leipzig just 18 months ago.

The former PSG player would be happy to stay in England or go back to Germany. And sources said that Manchester United have asked to be kept informed of developments in case Alejandro Garnacho departs. — Julien Laurens

Meanwhile, Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement to sign 16-year-old Corinthians left-back Denner, but due to FIFA rules, he could only make the transfer to England after he turns 18. — ESPN Brasil

Could one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Tottenham or Villa land a late move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel?

Yes. Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has confirmed that the 19-year-old Tel wants to leave and said: “I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.” But although Chelsea have made a lot of the early running, Tottenham feel they have an opportunity to win the race by offering a clearer path to regular first-team football and had a €60m offer accepted on Thursday night. The player has yet to make a decision though and personal terms have not been reached.

Sources said that Manchester United, Aston Villa and Ligue 1 side Marseille are also interested — although United must focus on outgoings first — while it remains unclear if Arsenal pivot away from their pursuit of Villa striker Ollie Watkins. If they do, Tel will be one alternative. — James Olley

After telling Bayern that he wanted to stay, Tel has changed his mind and has opened the door to a departure before the deadline as he has become frustrated by his lack of game time this season. Bayern want €60m for a permanent deal but are hoping that a bidding war breaks out between interested clubs; Tel wants to move to England and join a team where he will play regularly — ideally one that is in the Champions League.

Currently, Tottenham are leading the way but are not in a strong position considering their poor league performance. United have been in talks with Bayern and Tel’s agent for two days, but the club has to find an exit for Marcus Rashford first, and time is running out.

Tel could be Arsenal’s second option if they don’t manage to sign Watkins, while, as James says, Chelsea were the first club to get in touch about the player early in this transfer window and could yet move if Nkunku is allowed to depart. — Laurens

Which players could leave Man United before the deadline?

Man United would consider offers to sign midfielder Christian Eriksen and defender Victor Lindelöf before the deadline, but that’s optimistic because they will both be free agents this summer. Casemiro, 32, is available, and United are willing to sanction a straight loan while paying a portion of his wages. However, the Brazilian hasn’t shown much desire to go this month, and he already rejected a move to Roma, which means it would take a good offer to get things moving.

Young striker Rasmus Højlund is another interesting situation. He’s not playing well, but many clubs are looking for a striker on loan. United, however, could not afford to let Antony (who has already signed for Real Betis on loan), Rashford and Højlund leave without bringing in a replacement. — Rob Dawson

    And what about Rashford?

Man United want him out and Rashford wants to play, but this has now become a game of poker. Will United drop their financial demands or will Rashford agree to take a pay cut to move to another club? It’s likely either will need to happen if he’s going to go before the deadline.

It’s possible that this one will go right to the wire on Monday. Which side is going to blink first? — Dawson

Why Marcotti thinks Arsenal should go for Vlahovic over Watkins

Gabriele Marcotti believes that Arsenal should target Dusan Vlahovic instead of Ollie Watkins after they tabled a bid for the English striker.

Is Man City’s business over for January?

They hope not. The possibility that midfielder Douglas Luiz could be allowed to leave Juventus has got City boss Pep Guardiola and sporting director Txiki Begiristain interested. City would be keen on a loan for Luiz — who used to play for the club 2017-19, but he didn’t make a first-team appearance until the end of the season with an option to make it permanent. Juventus have suggested they want a permanent move now or an obligation to sign permanently in the summer.

As right-back Kyle Walker has left for Milan, there’s also interest in Juventus full-back Andrea Cambiaso, whose transfer is valued at around €80m, but that might have to wait until the summer.

One thing that could be of interest is the fact that Al Nassr have a delegation based in London ahead of the SPL deadline on Friday night and one of the players being discussed is City midfielder Mateo Kovacic. As of Thursday evening, City had yet to receive contact from the Saudi club, r but informal enquiries have been made to Kovacic’s representatives. It’s a hard deal to do but one to keep an eye on. — Dawson

James McAtee is likely to stay at City this month because the club is unable to loan him out of the country. City have already used their full allocation of six loans and cannot sanction another, so unless Bayer Leverkusen are prepared to make a significant offer to sign him permanently rather than on loan, he will be staying at the Etihad. — Mark Ogden

Tottenham are struggling in the league, will they sign anyone?

Ange Postecoglou certainly wants them to, but oddly, that is part of the problem. Postecoglou has a very specific style of play and wants players to fit that system, but the 59-year-old is under mounting pressure after a dismal run of results has left Spurs in 15th place in the Premier League. So do Spurs back a manager they may have to sack in the coming weeks? Or do they hedge their bets in the final few days of the window, either keeping their powder dry as players return from injury or sign a player the club feels is better suited to their future plans with one eye on life after Postecoglou? Either way, there is surely a consensus that the forward line needs strengthening and they’ve had that €60m bid for Tel accepted, although it remains to be seen if he wants to move to Spurs.

Central midfield has long needed more guile, hence the interest in Lille‘s Angel Gomes. Chairman Daniel Levy has long held a reputation for doing business late in the window, and here we are again. — Olley

With only six months remaining on his contract at Lille, Gomes is attracting a lot of interest from the Premier League. At 24, the former Manchester United academy graduate wants to come home. He has been great with Lille in the last four seasons, playing in the Champions League and making his England debut. Tottenham are keen to sign him, like West Ham and Everton, but this one is probably more for the summer transfer window than the final days of January. — Laurens

Is Ricardo Pepi the answer to West Ham’s striker struggles?

Gab Marcotti and Julien Laurens discuss USMNT striker Ricardo Pepi’s reported move to Premier League side West Ham.

Any other interesting deals in the works?

    – Brighton striker Evan Ferguson is the subject of interest from Bournemouth, West Ham, Everton and Bayer Leverkusen heading into the final days of the transfer window, with sources telling ESPN that the Republic of Ireland international could yet leave the Amex Stadium in a permanent deal. Sources said that a move to German Bundesliga would appeal to the 20-year-old, due to the success of a number of young players doing the same in recent years, but Brighton are open to a loan or a permanent transfer. — Ogden

    – Chelsea defender Axel Disasi wants to go to Aston Villa and the club has received an offer for a loan with no option to sign permanently. The discussions are continuing, but all parties are optimistic a deal will happen. — Laurens

Newcastle United have been looking closely at Real Sociedad winger Take Kubo, but the Spanish club won’t let him leave this month. — Rodri Faez

    – Atlanta United is closing in on the acquisition of Middlesbrough striker Latte Lath, and is prepared to break the record for an incoming transfer to MLS in order to get the $22m (plus add-ons) deal over the line. — Jeff Carlisle

    – Former U.S. international forward Matthew Hoppe is set to sign with Danish side Sonderskjye, a source has confirmed to ESPN after Transfermarkt initially broke the news. Capped eight times for the U.S., Hoppe had been on the books of English Championship side Middlesbrough, but had his contract terminated by mutual consent earlier this month. — Carlisle

Napoli want to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Noa Lang. The Italian club have offered a fee of €25m, but PSV do not want to let the 25-year-old go and instead are looking to bring in a left-back themselves, following Matteo Dams‘ departure to the United Arab Emirates. — ESPN NL

    – Feyenoord do not want to let Mexico striker Santiago Giménez leave the club this month. But AC Milan are interested and are reported to be preparing a €35m offer for the 23-year-old. — ESPN NL

    – Ajax are looking to bring in a left winger, but they might already have the perfect option. Carlos Forbs, who is on loan at Wolves and has made just one start and nine appearances overall in the Premier League, is in talks over an early return to Amsterdam. — ESPN NL

    – Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, who has previously played for Liverpool, Barcelona and Fiorentina, is one of the main targets for Santos after they announced the return of Neymar, but is set to move to Girona. — ESPN Brasi

    – Botafogo and Cruzeiro are both looking to hire a new coach. For Botafogo, Vasco Matos (Santa Clara) is an option, while there have been rumors about former Barcelona and Inter Miami boss Gerardo Martino and ex-Liverpool and Real Madrid coach Rafael Benítez that have not advanced. For Cruzeiro, Renato Gaúcho (formerly of Grêmio) has been tipped to replace Fernando Diniz. — ESPN Brasil

    – Flamengo are trying to reach an agreement to sign Arsenal midfielder Jorginho, after closing a move for Juventus defender Danilo.ESPN Brasil

    – Palmeiras striker Rony has seen a move to Qatari side Al Rayyan collapse, while Palmeiras have not given up on the signing of Fulham midfielder Andreas Pereira and will wait until Monday’s deadline day before restarting negotiations. — ESPN Brasil

    – Toluca are still looking to sign a goalkeeper after the surprise departure of Tiago Volpi, who decided to return to Brazil with Gremio for personal reasons. Sources told ESPN there is interest in Marseille goalkeeper Pau López, who is on loan at Girona of Spain. — Adriana Maldonado, ESPN Deportes

    – Boca Juniors have made an offer to sign Roma captain and midfielder Leandro Paredes, and are now waiting for a response. — ESPN Argentina

  • Oil prices post weekly drop as Trump touts energy policy, threatens tariffs

Oil markets sank on Friday, a day after U.S. President Donald Trump pressured OPEC and its de facto leader Saudi Arabia to lower prices in a broad push to drive up crude production.

Joe Klamar | Afp | Getty Images

Oil prices were steady on Friday but posted a weekly decline, ending four straight weeks of gains, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping plans to boost domestic production while demanding that OPEC moves to lower crude prices.

Brent crude futures gained 21 cents, or 0.27%, to close at $78.50 a barrel. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude (WTI) gained 4 cents, or 0.05%, to settle at $74.66 a barrel.

Brent has lost 2.83% this week while WTI was down 4.13%.

Trump on Friday reiterated his call for the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries to cut oil prices to hurt oil-rich Russia’s finances and help bring an end to the war in Ukraine.

“One way to stop it quickly is for OPEC to stop making so much money and drop the price of oil … that war will stop right away,” Trump said as he landed in North Carolina to view storm damage.

The threat of harsh U.S. sanctions on Russia and Iran, which are key oil producers, could undermine Trump’s goal of lowering energy costs, StoneX analyst Alex Hodes said in a note on Friday.

“Trump knows this and has leaned on OPEC to cover the void that these will create,” Hodes said.

On Thursday, Trump told the World Economic Forum he would demand that OPEC and its de facto leader, Saudi Arabia, bring down crude prices.

00:22Trump tells Davos he will demand lower interest rates, oil pricesThe video player is currently playing an ad. You can skip the ad in 5 sec with a mouse or keyboard

OPEC+, which includes Russia, has yet to react, with delegates from the group pointing to a plan already in place to start raising oil output from April.

“I don’t really expect OPEC will change policy unless there is a change in fundamentals,” UBS commodities analyst Giovanni Staunovo said. “Markets will be relatively muted until we get more clarity on sanctions policy and tariffs.”

    Tariffs

Chevron said on Friday it had started production at a $48 billion expansion of the giant Tengiz oilfield, which will bring its output to around 1% of global crude supply, and could further pressure OPEC’s efforts in the last few years to limit production.

Trump declared a national energy emergency on Monday, rolling back environmental restrictions on energy infrastructure as part of his plans to maximize domestic oil and gas production.

These rollbacks could support oil demand but have the potential to exacerbate oversupply, said Nikos Tzabouras, senior market specialist at trading platform Tradu.

Trump’s policies so far have largely followed predictions on the supply side, including cutting red tape to promote domestic supply growth, according to StoneX’s Hodes. However “the lower hanging fruit for growth has already been picked.”

The U.S. president vowed on Wednesday to hit the European Union with tariffs and impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico. He also said his administration was considering a 10% punitive duty on China.

As attention shifts to a possible February timeline for new tariffs, caution is likely to persist in the market, given potential negative implications for global growth and oil demand prospects, said Yeap Jun Rong, a market strategist at IG. Traders expect oil prices to range between $76.50 and $78 a barrel, he added.

While bullish catalysts such as a significant drawdown in U.S. crude stocks are providing temporary positive swings, an over-supplied global market and projections of ailing Chinese demand continue to weigh on crude futures, said Priyanka Sachdeva, senior market analyst at brokerage Phillip Nova.

U.S. crude inventories last week hit their lowest level since March 2022, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said.

Oil prices have experienced a weekly drop as President Trump continues to tout his energy policy and threaten tariffs on foreign oil. The uncertainty surrounding trade tensions and the impact on global oil demand has caused prices to fluctuate, with many investors closely monitoring the situation.

President Trump’s focus on increasing domestic oil production and reducing reliance on foreign imports has created a sense of volatility in the market, as traders try to anticipate the potential impact on supply and demand dynamics. At the same time, his threats of imposing tariffs on countries like Iran and Venezuela have added another layer of uncertainty to the mix.

As we head into the coming weeks, it will be important to keep a close eye on developments in the energy sector and how they are influencing oil prices. With geopolitical tensions and trade negotiations playing a significant role in shaping the market, investors should be prepared for potential fluctuations in the weeks ahead.

  • Singapore Airlines expands Seattle service with 5th weekly flight

From late May 2025, Singapore Airlines will launch a fifth weekly non-stop flight to Seattle, hiking capacity by 25% and finally fulfilling a long-awaited pre-COVID plan.

You have to cast your mind back over six years to recall the November 2018 announcement that Singapore Airlines was launching non-stop flights between Changi and “tech town” Seattle, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

The route officially debuted in September 2019 with three weekly (then four weekly flights) using Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft, recording such impressive load factors that the airline quickly moved to increase its frequency to five times weekly from March 2020.

Unfortunately, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic cut those plans short, forcing the route’s complete suspension just six months after its launch, which at the time made it SIA’s shortest-lived passenger route ever (previous record holder Las Vegas had lasted eight months).

Fast forward to today, and Seattle is firmly back on Singapore Airlines’ network, with the carrier finally set to fulfil its long-awaited plan to operate five weekly non-stop flights from 2025 – over five years later than originally envisioned.

Here’s a recap of Seattle’s timeline on the Singapore Airlines network.

    November 2018

    • Singapore Airlines announces plans to launch non-stop flights between Singapore and Seattle.

    September 2019

    • The route begins with three weekly non-stop flights using Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft, quickly increasing to four times weekly operation a month later, achieving strong load factors in excess of 95% in some months.

    Late 2019

    • Singapore Airlines adds a fifth weekly non-stop Seattle flight to its schedule, operating every Monday from March 2020.

    March 2020

    • Service is completely suspended as the COVID-19 pandemic disrupts global travel, making Seattle the airline’s shortest-lived passenger route ever at the time.
Singapore Airlines inaugurated non-stop Seattle flights in September 2019, just six months before COVID-19 forced the route’s suspension.

    2nd December 2021

    • Flights resume as part of a Singapore – Vancouver – Seattle – Vancouver – Singapore routing, operating four times weekly, leveraging the newly launched Vancouver route, which was reinstated by SIA after an absence of over 12 years.

    2nd June 2022

    • Seattle flights are quickly de-linked from Vancouver, resuming as dedicated non-stop Singapore – Seattle – Singapore services, operating three times weekly.

    2nd June 2024

    • Seattle frequency is hiked to four times weekly. Vancouver flights had been abandoned seven months earlier.

    30th May 2025

    • Seattle service increases to five weekly flights, fulfilling SIA’s original plan from March 2020.

Here’s how SIA’s current Seattle flight schedule looks.

Note that this is not the same as SIA’s originally proposed increase to five times weekly operation on the route back in March 2020, which saw additional service on Mondays, instead of Fridays.

All flights on this route will continue to use SIA’s 253-seat three-class Airbus A350 Long Haul aircraft, configured as follows:

    • 42 Business Class (2013 J)
    • 24 Premium Economy Class (2013 PY)
    • 187 Economy Class (2013 Y / 2017 Y)
SIA’s Seattle flights feature the airline’s popular 2013 Business Class seat.
    (Photo: MainlyMiles)

Singapore Airlines tends to prioritise its A350 Long Haul+ sub-variant on Seattle flights, since they have longer range than older aircraft in the fleet. These benefit from the latest 2017 Economy Class seats, rather than the older 2013 version seen on the carrier’s other A350 aircraft.

Overall, Singapore Airlines will operate 57 flights per week to and from the USA once this frequency increase for the Seattle route comes into effect, based on June 2025 schedules.

    • Los Angeles: 17/wk
    • New York: 14/wk
    • Newark: 7/wk
    • San Francisco: 14/wk
    • Seattle: 5/wk

However, this is less than the 61 U.S. flights per week the airline is currently operating, because services to Houston will be axed from late March 2025.

SIA will operate 57 weekly flights between Singapore and the USA the summer, including 14 to and from San Francisco and five to and from Seattle.

    SIA’s Seattle flights are busy

Before the pandemic, Seattle was proving to be a big hit for Singapore Airlines with four times weekly flights recording up to 90% load factors.

COVID-19 put a stop to that early success of course, as the figures reflect from February 2020 onwards, but the airline must have been buoyed by the demand it was seeing to and from the U.S. “tech town”.

Seattle had already witnessed significant non-stop international flight expansion from other Asian carriers like ANA and Cathay Pacific in recent years, before the pandemic hit.

How has the performance been more recently? Well looking at the first 10 months of 2024, it’s certainly positive.

SIA is no doubt pleased with Seattle’s route performance, which has seen load factors over over 95% some months, hence the introduction of a fifth weekly connection later this year, which will increase seat capacity by 25% from 2,024 per week to 2,530 per week.

Cathay Pacific notably launched four weekly Hong Kong – Seattle flights in 2019, but has yet to resume the route post-pandemic. This delay potentially presents Singapore Airlines with an opportunity to capitalise on the reduced capacity between the Pacific Northwest and Asia caused by its Oneworld competitor’s prolonged absence.

Singapore Airlines also codeshares on a variety of flights operated by Seattle-based Alaska Airlines across the USA and Mexico, allowing connectivity to several destinations it does not serve directly.

Singapore Airlines is hiking its Seattle schedule Seattle from late May this year, with a capacity boost of 25% from a fifth weekly non-stop flight, fulfilling a pre-COVID plan delayed by several years by the pandemic.

With impressive passenger demand and consistently high load factors, the route continues to demonstrate strong potential and we wouldn’t be surprised to see further increases in future, particularly as competitors like Cathay Pacific continue to delay their return to Seattle.

Singapore Airlines, the flag carrier of Singapore, has announced that it will be expanding its service to Seattle with the addition of a fifth weekly flight. This move comes in response to the increasing demand for travel between Singapore and Seattle, as well as the growing popularity of the airline’s premium services.

The new flight will operate on Wednesdays, adding to the existing four weekly flights on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This additional frequency will provide more flexibility for travelers looking to fly between the two destinations, as well as offer more options for connecting flights to other destinations in Asia and beyond.

Singapore Airlines is known for its exceptional service, comfortable cabins, and top-notch amenities, making it a popular choice for travelers looking for a luxurious and seamless travel experience. With the expansion of its Seattle service, the airline is further solidifying its commitment to providing world-class service to its customers.

Travelers can now book their flights on the new Wednesday service and experience the renowned hospitality of Singapore Airlines on their journey to and from Seattle. Whether traveling for business or leisure, Singapore Airlines continues to be a top choice for discerning travelers seeking a premium travel experience.

  • Singapore Airlines Ups Airbus A350-900 Flights To Seattle To 5 Weekly Frequencies

As airlines throughout Asia-Pacific began the long road to post-pandemic recovery, the standout performer has been Singapore Airlines. Over the last two years, the full-service carrier has expertly added more capacity in a disciplined way, keeping the two closely matched to drive passenger load factors into the profitable zone.

Stepping up capacity on the Seattle route

Singapore Airlines is continuing the post-Covid era in the same way it navigated its way out of the disastrous lockdowns throughout Asia by adding capacity to routes it already knows will be profitable. Last week, the airline made several changes to its Northern Summer 2025 operations, including advice that it would add more flights between Singapore and Seattle in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States.

According to Mainly Miles, this route debuted in September 2019 with three weekly flights using Airbus A350s but increased to five weekly from March 2020. The arrival of the pandemic ended the service until it returned in December 2021 as part of a Singapore-Vancouver-Seattle-Vancouver-Singapore route.

Singapore Airlines Group Adds Capacity As Traffic Keeps Growing

Overcapacity in North Asia is starting to affect passenger loads at Singapore Airlines and Scoot, although the group has fully recovered post-COVID.

In June 2022, the route was changed to a nonstop Singapore—Seattle flight three times weekly, with high demand sustaining a boost to four times weekly in June 2024. The next iteration starts on May 30, 2025, when Singapore Airlines (SIA) will increase its flights between Singapore and Seattle to five times weekly, with flights from SIN on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

This is how the Singapore Airlines route is operating today

On January 25, Singapore Airlines flight SQ28 departed Singapore Changi Airport (SIN) at 10:13 and, after a 14:16-hour flight, landed in Seattle at 08:28. The service was operated with a 2019 Airbus A350-900, registration 9V-SMV and MSN 329, which was first delivered to Singapore Airlines in July 2019.

    Singapore SQ28 SIN SEA

The aircraft returned to Singapore as SQ27, departing Seattle Tacoma International Airport (SEA) at 10:35 and arriving at Singapore Changi at 18:13. The next day, it operated a return flight to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and regularly flies on routes from Singapore to Melbourne (MEL), Hong Kong (HKG), Jakarta (CGK), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and London Gatwick (LGW).

SIA has the right size aircraft for the Seattle service

Fleet data from ch-aviation shows that Singapore Airlines has a fleet of 159 aircraft, with 16 listed as inactive. SIA has an extensive air cargo operation with 12 freighters, including seven Boeing 747-400FSCD and five 777-200F aircraft. The listing shows that the passenger fleet includes:

    • 58 Airbus A350-900s
    • Seven Airbus A350-900(ULR)s
    • 12 Airbus A380s
    • 16 Boeing 737 MAX 8s
    • Six Boeing 737-800s
    • 22 Boeing 777-300ERs
    • 26 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.

The data also lists 56 new aircraft to be delivered, including seven Airbus A350Fs, 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8s, 31 Boeing 777-9s and five Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. While Singapore Airlines may be waiting some time for the new-generation 777-9s to be delivered from Boeing, it has a substantial fleet of Airbus A350s should demand on the Seattle route keep growing.

When the Seattle service increases in May, Singapore Airlines will operate 57 weekly flights to and from the United States. The schedule for June shows 17 weekly flights to Los Angeles, 14 to New York, 14 to San Francisco, seven to Newark and five to Seattle. Ironically, that will be less than the 61 weekly flights currently flown, as services to Houston will be cut from late March 2025.

Singapore Airlines recently announced that it will be increasing its Airbus A350-900 flights to Seattle to 5 weekly frequencies starting in the near future. This decision comes as a response to the growing demand for flights between Singapore and Seattle.

The Airbus A350-900 is known for its state-of-the-art features and superior comfort, making it a popular choice among passengers. With the increase in frequencies, travelers can now enjoy more options when flying between these two cities.

This move by Singapore Airlines not only demonstrates their commitment to providing exceptional service to their customers but also highlights the importance of the Seattle market to the airline. The increase in flights will not only benefit passengers but also boost tourism and business connections between Singapore and Seattle.

Overall, this development is great news for travelers looking to fly between these two vibrant cities and further solidifies Singapore Airlines’ position as a top choice for long-haul flights.
