Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros Begin Florida New Year’s Run

Last night Bob Weir & Wolf Bros opened their six show run in Fort Lauderdale. The first four of these gigs (12/27-28, 12/30-/12/31) are slated for the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. featuring The Wolfpack. Then. Weir & the Wolf Bros Trio will appear at The Parker for two nights (1/2-3).
The expanded version of the band, which includes strings and horns kicked things off with a fitting “The Music Never Stopped.” This then led into a version of “Standing on Shakey Ground” as the Wolfpack briefly stepped offstage, leaving the core members of Wolf. Bros (Weir, Don Was, Jeff Chimenti, Jay Lane and Barry Sless) to complete the tune. Other first set highlights included covers of Bob Dylan’s “When I Paint My Masterpiece” and Johnny Cash’s “Big River (both longtime Weir staples), along with a set-closing “Cassidy.”
The collective opened the action in fine form for the second frame with “China Cat Sunflower” > “I Know You Rider.” A stately “Days Between” then followed, which gave way to “Lady With A Fan” and “Terrapin Station.” A spirited version of “Turn On Your Love Light” closed the set before a second Dylan tune, “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door,” served as the encore.

Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros kicked off their Florida New Year’s run last night with a stellar performance in Miami. That same night, jamgrass outfits Kitchen Dwellers and Mountain Grass Unit will stage their only shows of the NYE season at Ardmore Music Hall in Pennslyvania (8 p.m.) and Iron City Bham in Birmingham, AL (9 p.m.) respectively.
On Saturday, December 28th, Bob Weir and his Wolf Bros will return to Fort Lauderdale while Phish kicks off its annual four-night run at Madison Square Garden in New York City (7:30 p.m.). Across the country, Umphrey’s McGee will embark on the first night of its four-show, two-venue Colorado New Year’s run, beginning at Denver’s Ogden Theatre (10 p.m.). Come Sunday, December 29th, Billy Strings will enter the chat with his first of three shows from UNO Lakefront Arena in New Orleans (8:30 p.m.). Phish and Umphrey’s McGee will return to their respective venues while Bobby takes a night off and New Orleans favorites Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen go live from Tipitina’s for a one-off show (10:30 p.m.).
Monday, December 30th will feature additional livestreams by The Disco Biscuits from The Fillmore in Philadelphia (8 p.m.) and Goose from the Moody Center in Austin (8:30 p.m.).
