The starting line-ups are in from the Etihad Stadium where Manchester City welcome West Ham on Saturday afternoon.

Defensive trio Ederson, Rúben Dias and John Stones all remained sidelined with fitness issues for Pep Guardiola’s side, although Phil Foden starts.

Tomáš Souček and Guido Rodríguez (who is on the bench) are back from suspension for the Hammers, who are of course dealing without long-term absentee Jarrod Bowen after he sustained a bone fracture.

Prior to kick-off, the champions are in sixth, while West Ham occupy 13th place.

Manchester City vs West Ham United: Premier League preview, team news, stats & head-to-head

  • Man City have won 14 of their last 15 Premier League home games against West Ham (L1), including the last eight in a row since a 2-1 loss in September 2015.

  • West Ham are winless in their last 18 Premier League games against Man City, since a 2-1 away win in September 2015. Against no side have the Hammers had a longer winless run in their league history (also 18 vs Liverpool between 1983 and 1994).

  • West Ham have conceded at least once in each of their last 24 Premier League games against Man City – only against Sunderland have they had a longer run without a clean sheet in their league history (25 between 1923 and 1968), a run they ended with an 8-0 win with Geoff Hurst scoring six goals.

  • Manchester City have won their first league game in 17 of the last 18 calendar years, including each of the last 12 in a row since a 1-0 loss at Sunderland on New Year’s Day 2012.

  • West Ham haven’t lost their opening league game in any of the last seven calendar years (W4 D3), since a 2-0 loss to Man Utd in 2017. This is the first time they’re facing the reigning champions in their first league game of the year since 2006, and a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

  • Manchester City have failed to win either of their last two Premier League home games, despite opening the scoring both times (1-2 v Manchester United, 1-1 v Everton). They’ve not failed to win three consecutive home league games despite scoring first each time since December/January in 2003-04.

  • In 2024, West Ham conceded more goals than any other Premier League side (79), finishing the year with a 5-0 home defeat against Liverpool.

  • Man City have won all eight of their Premier League home games against West Ham under Pep Guardiola – only Arsène Wenger has a better 100% home win rate against an opponent in the competition (11/11 vs Leicester, 10/10 vs Stoke).

  • Man City’s Erling Haaland has scored seven goals in just five Premier League games against West Ham, though only one of these has come at the Etihad Stadium.

  • Since the start of last season, Jarrod Bowen has been involved in 16 away Premier League goals (10 goals, 6 assists), double that of any of his West Ham teammates. Overall, only Michail Antonio (36 goals, 11 assists) and Mark Noble (20 goals, 13 assists) have more goals and assists in away games for the Hammers than Bowen (14 goals, 17 assists).

  • Manchester City will take on West Ham United in a highly anticipated Premier League clash this weekend. Both teams will be looking to secure three points in this crucial fixture, with Manchester City aiming to maintain their spot at the top of the table and West Ham United hoping to climb up the standings.

    Team news:

Manchester City will be without the services of Kevin De Bruyne, who is sidelined with a muscle injury. However, they will have the likes of Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden available for selection. West Ham United will also have a fully fit squad to choose from, with Michail Antonio leading the line for the Hammers.

    Stats:

Manchester City have been in scintillating form this season, winning 18 out of their 23 matches so far. They have scored a league-high 57 goals and have the best defensive record in the league, conceding just 15 goals. West Ham United, on the other hand, have impressed with their attacking prowess, scoring 42 goals in 24 matches.

    Head-to-head:

Manchester City have a dominant record against West Ham United in recent years, winning seven out of their last eight meetings. However, West Ham will be buoyed by their recent form and will be looking to cause an upset at the Etihad Stadium.

This match promises to be an exciting encounter between two top teams in the Premier League. Will Manchester City continue their winning streak or will West Ham United pull off a surprise victory? Tune in to find out!

Vanessa Williams’ mom dies at 85 on a trip to watch her daughter’s West End debut

Vanessa Williams‘ mom, Helen, has died at the age of 85.

She passed away on the morning of December 28th, after traveling to London, England to celebrate her birthday surrounded by her family and watch her daughter’s debut at the West End, where she plays Miranda Priestly in the stage production of “The Devil Wears Prada.”

Helen’s death was announced by her family, who shared a moving obituary. The message reads that the trip was organized “to celebrate her 85th birthday party surrounded by 150 of her family and friends.”

“During her visit she suffered a major decline in health which ended her life.” Her cause of death was listed as acute liver failure.

Helen was a teacher, working for over 40 years in the Ossining and Manhattanville School Districts. She retired in 1996.

Her obituary quoted one of her favorite teachings she imparted to her students: “Work the best you can and don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot do something — ever! Make up your mind, prepare yourself, study hard, and be very, very confident.”

Williams’ message following her mother’s passing

Vanessa Williams shared the news of her mother’s death on Instagram, sharing a photo of her mother and a sincere caption.

“On December 28th, the world lost a powerhouse, dynamo and force of nature packed into a 5ft frame, Our mom, Helen Williams, aka Gaga to many, took her final bow in London 20 days after celebrating her 85th birthday surrounded by family and friends. It’s impossible to describe all she meant to everyone because each person saw a different facet of her. Loyal friend to many, icy stares to a chosen few. We will miss it all.”

Williams’ friends wrote thoughtful messages in the comments section, sharing their experiences with Helen and their support for their friend.

“Vanessa, what a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN,” wrote the actor Jerry O’Connell. “Always a RAY OF SUNSHINE. Our whole family is here for you and the family. Helen was such a beauty! We are so blessed to have known her. Love to everyone.”

I’m sad to report that Vanessa Williams’ mother, Helen Williams, has passed away at the age of 85 while on a trip to London to watch her daughter’s West End debut. Vanessa, a talented actress and singer known for her roles in Broadway shows and television series, was set to take the stage in a new production when tragedy struck.

Helen Williams was a devoted mother and supporter of Vanessa’s career, always cheering her on from the sidelines. It is truly heartbreaking that she won’t be able to see her daughter shine on stage one last time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Vanessa and her family during this difficult time. May Helen rest in peace knowing that she raised a daughter who has touched the hearts of so many with her incredible talent and grace.
