FORT WORTH, Texas — Rumors ran wild pregame that Zac Alley was potentially about to coach his final game for Oklahoma.
Following the Sooners’ 21-20 Armed Forces Bowl loss to Navy on Friday and with Alley’s name being rumored for West Virginia’s defensive coordinator opening, OU’s co-defensive coordinator was asked about the possibility of him not returning next season during his postgame radio interview.
“Every year, there’s going to be something that comes up with jobs and whatnot, man,” Alley told OU’s in-house radio crew. “But I’m just excited about our team. I think coming back next season, we’re going to have a great opportunity to be successful, be a top defense in the country, and hopefully we got some young guys who can come along to help us do that.”
Alley has ties all over the West Virginia staff. He coached under new coach Rich Rodriguez at Jacksonville State and coached with new defensive line coach William Green at Jacksonville State and Louisiana-Monroe.
With their loss, the Sooners finished their season with a 6-7 record.
