    After five rounds of voting, the Seattle City Council has just appointed Mark Solomon to fill the District 2 seat from which Tammy Morales recently resigned. You might recall Solomon from his years as Southwest Precinct crime-prevention coordinator, a civilian role he has continued to fill for the South Precinct. He’s sought council positions before, both in elections (losing to Morales in 2019) and in application/nomination processes like this one (such as the citywide Position 8 process a year ago), but this will be his first time serving. Solomon was the choice of District 1 Councilmember Rob Saka throughout this morning’s voting and was the top votegetter throughout, but stuck at four of eight votes until the last round. He will have the job until someone is elected in November to fill the remaining two years of Morales’s term.





    Former Southwest Precinct crime-prevention coordinator Mark Solomon has been appointed to the Seattle City Council, bringing his expertise in community safety and crime prevention to the forefront of city governance.

    According to USGS, an earthquake struck late Friday north and west of Atlanta from a depth of 2.3 km.  The magnitude 2.3 earthquake struck just outside of Linwood, Georgia at 7:01 pm yesterday evening. This is the third and strongest earthquake to strike this area within the last three months. It wasn’t strong enough to create any reported damages nor injuries.

    According to Georgia’s Emergency Management and Home Security Agency (GEMA), approximately 15 percent of the world’s earthquakes are scattered over areas like Georgia that lack clearly defined active faults. Although earthquakes in Georgia are comparatively rare, scattered earthquakes caused significant damage and are an important consideration for homeowners. Georgia’s northwest counties, South Carolina border counties, and central and west central Georgia counties are most at risk.

    GEMA recommends that people in Georgia plan for the risk of damaging earthquakes, especially if they’re in the northern Georgia counties of Bartow, Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Fannin, Floyd, Gilmer, Gordon, Murray, Pickens, Rabun, Towns, Union, Walker, and Whitfield, the South Carolina border counties of Burke, Chatham, Columbia, Effingham, Elbert, Lincoln, Richmond, and Screven, and central and west-central counties of Twiggs, Bibb, Jones, Baldwin, Hancock, Greene, Putnam, Butts, Jasper, Newton, Morgan, Walton, Harris, and Muscogee.

    GEMA writes, “It’s important to be aware of your earthquake risk and to know how to protect yourself.” They encourage people to take a moment now to learn basic steps they should take before, during, and after an earthquake.





    Just moments ago, a powerful earthquake struck Georgia, specifically north and west of Atlanta. The earthquake, which measured a magnitude of 5.8, has caused widespread damage and panic in the affected areas.

    Reports are coming in of buildings collapsing, roads cracking, and power outages occurring throughout the region. Residents are urged to stay indoors and seek shelter in a safe location until further notice.

    Emergency services are currently responding to the situation and are working to assess the extent of the damage and provide assistance to those in need. If you are in the affected area, please follow all instructions from local authorities and stay informed through official channels.

    In a swift move, Mumbai Police launched a search operation in West Bengal’s Nadia district on Monday, leading to the arrest of a woman linked to the shocking attack on Bollywood’s own Saif Ali Khan, sources told PTI.
    The investigation found that the SIM card used by the Bangladeshi national, who was arrested earlier in Mumbai for the attack, was registered under the woman’s name. On Sunday, a two-member team from Mumbai Police arrived in West Bengal.
    A woman was taken into custody by the Mumbai Police in Chapra, Nadia district, in connection with the Saif Ali Khan attack case. Authorities may request a transit remand to bring her to Mumbai, according to a West Bengal Police source.The woman, Khukhumoni Jahangir Sheikh, was acquainted with Shariful Fakir, the arrested Bangladeshi national. Fakir had entered India illegally via the India-Bangladesh border near Siliguri and later connected with her. She hails from Andulia in Murshidabad district, West Bengal.

    On January 16, early in the morning, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed six times at his Bandra home in Mumbai. He was immediately taken to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent spinal and plastic surgery for his injuries. The actor was discharged from the hospital on January 21.

    This will be an ideal test of their improvement since Potter’s arrival, and what he’s managed to achieve with that decent stretch of training: these teams played here in the FA Cup a couple of weeks ago, a day after he was unveiled as Julen Lopategui’s replacement, and Villa won 2-1.

Since Christmas West Ham have had a total of 11 shots on target across six games, while conceding 15 goals at the other end. It’s obvious where that improvement needs to be demonstrated.
