  • Pakistan stretches lead to 202 as spinners dominate first Multan Test against West Indies – Sport

Spin wizards Noman Ali and Sajid Khan guided Pakistan to a strong position against the West Indies after another spin-dominated second day’s play in the opening Test in Multan on Saturday.

The pair shared nine wickets between them to dismiss the West Indies for a paltry 137 in reply to the home team’s 230 all out earlier in the day.

By the close, Pakistan stretched the 93-run lead to 202 by scoring 109-3 in their second innings, with Kamran Ghulam and Saud Shakeel batting on nine and two respectively when bad light ended play 25 minutes before time.

Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (2-17) dismissed Muhammad Hurraira for 29 after an opening stand of 67 and Babar Azam for a second failure, trapped leg-before for five.

Skipper Shan Masood looked solid for his 52, hitting two sixes and two fours, before Warrican ran him out after attempting a quick single.

Noman grabbed 5-39 for his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests, while Sajid finished with 4-65 to dismiss the West Indies for 137 after lunch in a first innings that lasted just 25.2 overs.

Pakistan earlier lost their last six wickets for 43 runs after resuming at 143-4 and were bowled out for 230 in their first innings.

The dry and grassless Multan pitch has already produced 20 wickets in five sessions even though two-and-a-half hours were lost on day one, and another 30 minutes on Saturday, because of poor visibility.

Noman and Sajid, who shared 39 of the 40 wickets in the last two Tests against England in Pakistan’s 2-1 series win last year, were once again unplayable.

Sajid opened the bowling and removed Mikyle Louis (one), Keacy Carty (0), Kraigg Brathwaite (11) and Kavem Hodge (four) in his first three overs.

Noman then further jolted the tourists with another four wickets to leave them on 66-8.

The tail-enders showed more resistance, with number 10 batsman Jomel Warrican unbeaten on 31, with Gudakesh Motie adding 19 and Jayden Seales the last wicket to fall for 22.

Seales hit three sixes before holing out off-spinner Abrar Ahmed.

Warrican also took 3-69 in Pakistan’s innings.

Saud Shakeel top-scored for Pakistan with 84 off 157 deliveries, including six boundaries, while keeper Mohammad Rizwan added 71.

Shakeel added an invaluable 141 for the fifth wicket with Rizwan, lifting Pakistan from a precarious 46-4 on day one.

Kevin Sinclair sparked the Pakistan batting collapse by taking Shakeel’s wicket with the first ball after drinks.

He then trapped Rizwan leg-before off a missed reverse sweep, the original decision of not out overturned on review.

Rizwan’s 133-ball stay included nine boundaries.

Sajid hit a boundary and a six in a rapid-fire 18 before he was bowled by Warrican on the stroke of lunch to end Pakistan’s innings.

In a dominant display of spin bowling, Pakistan has stretched their lead to 202 runs in the first Test match against West Indies in Multan. The Pakistani spinners have wreaked havoc on the West Indian batting lineup, taking crucial wickets at regular intervals.

Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali have been the standout performers for Pakistan, picking up key wickets and putting pressure on the West Indian batsmen. Their accuracy and control have troubled the opposition, who have struggled to build partnerships and put together a substantial total.

With the pitch offering assistance to the spinners, Pakistan will be looking to wrap up the West Indian innings quickly and set a challenging target for the visitors to chase. The Pakistani batsmen will also be looking to extend their lead and put the game out of reach for West Indies.

Overall, it has been a clinical performance from Pakistan so far in the first Test match, and they will be looking to carry that momentum into the rest of the series. The spinners have been the heroes for Pakistan in Multan, and they will be hoping to continue their dominance in the remaining matches.

  • Aztecs, Rebels clash in first game since Mountain West tournament tilt – San Diego Union-Tribune

    SDSU vs. UNLV

    When: 5 p.m., Saturday

    Where: Viejas Arena

    On the air: CBSSN; 760-AM

    Records: SDSU 11-4, 4-2 MW; UNLV 10-7, 4-2

Series history: SDSU leads 44-38 and has won 23 of the last 26. UNLV, however, won the most recent regular-season meeting, 62-58 in Las Vegas last March. Nine days later, the Aztecs won 74-71 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the Mountain West tournament.

Aztecs update: They put their 67-game win streak in Quad 3 or lower games on the line against the last school to beat them in one: UNLV in 2020 at Viejas Arena after SDSU had opened the season 26-0. The Aztecs remain solidly in the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi, who has them as a 9 seed. Utah State and New Mexico are the only other Mountain West teams in his bracket (although the Lobos have slipped to one of the last teams in). Rebounding has been an issue all season, but UNLV is statistically even worse. The Aztecs rank 214th nationally in keeping opponents off the offensive boards; the Rebels are 322nd. Since 2013-14, SDSU leads the Mountain West with an .874 winning percentage (90-13) in home conference games. Boise State is second at .788 (82-22). Utah State and Nevada are the only other programs above .700. Senior guard Reese Waters, out all season with a stress fracture in his foot, has his next bone scan scheduled for Monday. The Kenpom metric projects a 71-59 Aztecs win. All fans entering Viejas Arena will receive a Brian Dutcher bobblehead. In addition, it is the annual ALS Awareness Game, with fans raising placards during a timeout to honor, remember and advocate for those afflicted with ALS.

Rebels update: They were 9-0 against teams outside the top 100 of the major metrics and 0-7 against teams inside it until Wednesday’s 65-62 home win against Utah State, which is No. 22 in the Associated Press poll. Last year, they had a similar big home win in January (against New Mexico) that untracked an underperforming season and they went on a 10-1 run, their best 11-game conference stretch since 1992. That got them into the NIT and they won their first postseason game in 16 years, reaching the quarterfinals. This team, like the last few editions under fourth-year coach Kevin Kruger, is filled with transfers. Only one starter is back: point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. (15.6 points, 4.5 assists). Another starter returned in forward Rob Whaley Jr., but he’s been injured for all but two games and is expected to take a medical redshirt. Also back is guard Jalen Hill, who tore knee ligaments in last year’s game at Viejas Arena, a 72-61 Aztecs win on Jan. 6. The Oklahoma transfer had his best game of the season in the Utah State win with 15 points (7 of 9 shooting) and eight rebounds. Jeremiah “Bear” Cherry, a 6-11, 280-pound San Diego native who spent two seasons at a JC in New Mexico, is averaging 9.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. The Rebels rank second in the Mountain West in 3-point accuracy at 37.1%. They’re 102nd in Kenpom, 109th in the NET.

Next up: Wednesday at Air Force (7 p.m. PST, CBSSN)

  • West Bromwich Albion: Tony Mowbray returns to Hawthorns as boss

Analysis by BBC Radio WM’s Steve Hermon

This is a real emotional return for one of the most well-respected men in English football. The man they call ‘Mogga’.

Just 11 months ago, having already won three of his first six league games in charge, Mowbray had to step away as boss of Birmingham City for health reasons.

Without him, Blues went on to be relegated to League One, by which time Mowbray had stood down completely before then revealing to BBC Tees that he had undergone surgery for bowel cancer.

But he also stated in that same interview his ultimate desire to return to work – and his reappointment is filled with nostalgia for Albion fans who fondly remember the team’s positive style of play under him at The Hawthorns.

It was an eventful time in the club’s modern history too. Two Wembley appearances, both 1-0 defeats, by Derby County in the Championship play-off final in May 2007, then by Portsmouth in the FA Cup semi-final 11 months later.

But, only a month later, Mowbray’s Albion won promotion back to the Premier League, pipping this weekend’s visitors Stoke for the title.

Relegation followed after one season in the top flight, after which Mowbray left in 2009 for Celtic.

Now he returns via five more managerial stints, with his home-town club Middlesbrough, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers, Sunderland and Blues.

They say you should never go back but you cannot deny the feel-good factor this will generate back at one of his favourite ‘homes’ of football.

He is one of football’s nice guys but he is also an experienced manager, who knows all about this division and what it takes to compete near the top.

Only time will tell if this heart-warming story also has a fairytale ending.

West Bromwich Albion fans were left buzzing with excitement as the news broke that former manager Tony Mowbray was set to return to the Hawthorns as the club’s new boss.

Mowbray, who previously managed the Baggies from 2006 to 2009, was highly regarded by fans during his previous stint at the club. His attacking style of play and commitment to developing young players endeared him to the West Brom faithful, and many supporters were sad to see him leave when he departed for Celtic.

Now, after successful spells at Blackburn Rovers and Coventry City, Mowbray is back at West Brom and ready to lead the team back to the Premier League. With his experience and tactical acumen, fans are optimistic that he can guide the club to success in the Championship and secure promotion back to the top flight.

The appointment of Mowbray has been met with widespread approval from fans, who believe he is the perfect man to rejuvenate the club and bring back the glory days to the Hawthorns. With his return, hopes are high that West Brom can once again become a force to be reckoned with in English football.

  • Hawkeyes aiming to return to winning ways out West

IOWA CITY, Iowa– The Hawkeye women are heading out west and are hoping to find a way back to winning. Iowa is on a four-game skid and that hasn’t happened in nine years. Still, Jan Jensen and company remain optimistic and believe that they are on the right path.

“All of our losses have been very winnable games, which is the frustrating part,” Syd Affolter said. “But we’re going onto Oregon and Washington, and we’re going to battle over there and give it our best shot.”

“It’s a lot of little things,” Hannah Stuelke said. “We’ll have lapses here and there, where we lose focus and miss an assignment. [The problems] are getting smaller, obviously, but we need to limit that as much as possible.”

For a more in-depth preview, be sure to read Sean Bock’s in-depth analysis. Ahead of Iowa’s potential bounce-back game, let’s take a look at some game notes and how you can tune into the action.

    Game Notes:

Deja Kelly is one of two players in the Big Ten conference averaging 10.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 1.0 spg. Oregon’s bench is averaging 29.2 ppg, tops in the Big Ten (14th nationally). UO averaged just 9.6 ppg from its bench a season ago. The Ducks have won four consecutive games on their home floor.

Iowa leads the all-time series, 1-0. The Hawkeyes beat Oregon, 89-82 in overtime in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in 2001.

UI has won six games this season scoring 75 or less which is the most in a season since 2018-19. (12)

Taylor Stremlow has recorded five or more assists three times this season which ties for sixth-most as a freshman in a single season since 2009.

Since 2018-19, the Hawkeyes are 92-6 when recording 80+ points and 20+ assists in a game. Iowa has outrebounded 16 of its 18 opponents this season.

Iowa has the longest active streak in the nation scoring at least 80 points per game in four consecutive seasons.

Oregon is 14th in the country in adjusted defensive efficiency. The Ducks rank in the top-60 in defensive field goal rate and turnover percentage. Opponents have not shot well from three and two against the Ducks this season.

Oregon’s bench is averaging 29.2 points per game, the most in the Big Ten (14th nationally).

  • Assistant Coach Sean Sullivan talks defense, west coast trip

If the Hawkeyes want to make the NCAA Tournament, the time to start stacking wins is now. Despite showing signs of improvement over the last couple of games, Iowa has lost four straight games for the first time since 2016 and sits at 2-5 in Big Ten play. On Thursday night, the Hawkeyes played mostly clean basketball, but a miserable night at the free throw line cost them in their loss to Nebraska. Up next, Iowa travels to the west coast for meetings with Oregon and Washington.

Assistant coach Sean Sullivan is in his first year with the Hawkeyes, after spending the last two seasons on staff at North Carolina. He met with the media on Friday afternoon, discussing who the best defenders on the team are, the staffs progress with finding the right lineup pairings and the possibility of implementing some more press defense. He also spoke about Aaliyah Guyton and Taylor Stremlow and what they have added from a leadership standpoint as freshmen.

Assistant Coach Sean Sullivan recently sat down with us to discuss the team’s defensive strategy and their upcoming west coast trip.

During the interview, Coach Sullivan emphasized the importance of communication and teamwork on the defensive end. He stressed the need for players to be constantly talking and helping each other out on the court in order to disrupt the opponent’s offensive flow.

When asked about the team’s upcoming west coast trip, Coach Sullivan expressed his excitement for the challenge ahead. He noted that facing tough opponents on the road will test the team’s defensive abilities and provide valuable experience for the players.

Overall, Coach Sullivan’s insights shed light on the team’s defensive mindset and their readiness for the upcoming road trip. Fans can look forward to seeing the team’s defensive prowess in action as they take on their west coast rivals.

  • Scouting West Virginia: Cyclones try for 6-0 Big 12 start against DeVries – CycloneFanatic.com

The Iowa State Cyclones (15-1, 6-0) head to east for Saturday’s matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers (12-4, 3-2) in Morgantown (4:00 p.m., ESPN+).

With a 12-game winning streak—the longest active streak in the nation—and a perfect 5-0 start to conference play, Iowa State is asserting itself as one of the top teams in college basketball. Saturday’s road test presents a different challenge.

Iowa State has struggled historically in Morgantown, having won there only twice since West Virginia joined the Big 12. The Mountaineers, led by first-year head coach and former Drake Bulldog head coach Darian DeVries, boast an 8-1 home record so far this season.

Cyclones Riding High After Top 10 Win

The Cyclones are coming off a dominant performance against No. 9 Kansas on Wednesday night. T.J. Otzelberger’s squad closed the game on a 16-2 run, securing a 17-point victory and tying the 1944 team for the best start to conference play in school history. The win also marked the best 16-game start in program history.

Curtis Jones, Iowa State’s sixth man turned starter due to an injury to forward Milan Momcilovic, shined against Kansas, continuing his first team all-Big 12 campaign. The Big 12’s second-leading scorer has seven 20-point games this year and earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors earlier in the season. His ability to step up in big moments has been pivotal for the Cyclones especially late in games.

    Key Contributors Stepping Up

Keshon Gilbert has also been a standout for Iowa State, leading the team in minutes and assists while averaging 15.5 points per game. Gilbert’s growth in his second year as a Cyclone earned him a spot on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Watch List.

Tamin Lipsey continues to anchor the team on both ends of the floor. Lipsey leads the team in steals and ranks second in assists. His ability to disrupt opposing offenses has made him a key this season.

Meanwhile, transfers Joshua Jefferson, Brandton Chatfield and Dishon Jackson have provided versatility and strength in the paint. Jefferson leads the team in rebounding and has earned four Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honors, while Jackson’s shot-blocking and interior presence have been critical.

    Mountaineers Pose a Threat

West Virginia returns home after splitting a two-game road trip, with a loss to No. 10 Houston and a win at Colorado. The Mountaineers have already defeated two top 10 teams this season, showcasing their ability to compete at a high level.

Javon Small, a transfer from Oklahoma State, leads West Virginia in scoring at 19.4 points per game and ranks among the nation’s top 25 scorers. His matchup against Iowa State’s backcourt will be one to watch.

With the absence of star guard Tucker DeVries, the Mountaineers have had a number of guys step up and contribute. Illinois transfer Amani Hansberry averages 10.1 points and 5.6 rebounds per game. He is a stretch four that can knock down the three point ball at a high level. He is shooting 31.1% from behind the arc this season.

Freshman Jonathan Powell is stepped in for DeVries in a big way. Like Hansberry, Powell can really shoot the ball. The 6-foot-6 guard is averaging 9.2 points per game and shooting an impressive 37.8% from three. In Big 12 play, Powell has made two or more threes in every game except one.

Darian DeVries has quickly turned the Mountaineers into a competitive squad. Despite losing 97% of their scoring from last season, West Virginia’s defensive intensity has kept them in games, holding opponents to 64.3 points per contest.

Saturday’s game will be a battle of Iowa State’s high-powered offense against West Virginia’s stout defense. The Cyclones lead the Big 12 in scoring, averaging 85.4 points per game, while shooting an efficient 49.5% from the field. Conversely, West Virginia ranks 20th nationally in opponent field goal percentage, limiting teams to just 38.9% shooting from the field.

Iowa State and West Virginia will meet for the 25th time on Saturday, with the Mountaineers holding a 14-10 series advantage. West Virginia has dominated recent matchups in Morgantown, winning the last eight games.

A win in Morgantown would extend Iowa State’s winning streak and solidify its place atop the Big 12 standings. It would also bolster the Cyclones’ NCAA Tournament resume, as they continue to climb the national rankings, currently sitting at No. 5 in the NET and No. 4 in KenPom.

The Cyclones are on a roll in the Big 12 conference, with a perfect 5-0 start to the season. But their next challenge comes in the form of the DeVries, a tough opponent looking to spoil their winning streak. Can the Cyclones keep their momentum going and secure a 6-0 start in the Big 12? • West Ham vs Crystal Palace Prediction, Odds & Picks

Crystal Palace haven’t quite hit the heights they reached at the end of the 2023/24 season, but Oliver Glasner clearly has the team back on track after a poor start to the season. The Eagles head into the weekend unbeaten in 5, with their midweek win at Leicester taking them 8 points clear of the relegation zone. Palace are impressing on their travels, as they’re unbeaten in 6 EPL road games. The Eagles have won 3 of their last 4 away from Selhurst Park and have had plenty of joy at the London Stadium in recent years.

West Ham won 3-2 against Fulham as new head coach Graham Potter made his return to the Premier League, but the former Chelsea boss still has issues to deal with. His team lost the shot count 21-4 in that victory, while they lost on Expected Goals for the 3rd EPL game in a row. The Hammers have lost 3 of their last 4 and they are looking short on numbers in the final third. They were struggling to create openings against Fulham and Crystal Palace should be even tougher to break down. Take the Eagles to earn all 3 points in this one.

West Ham vs Crystal Palace Prediction, Odds & Picks

In this highly anticipated Premier League matchup, West Ham United will face off against Crystal Palace. Both teams have had their fair share of ups and downs this season, making this game an exciting one to watch.

    Prediction:

West Ham United has been in good form recently, sitting comfortably in the top half of the table. With key players like Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen leading the attack, the Hammers have shown their ability to score goals and secure important wins. On the other hand, Crystal Palace has struggled to find consistency this season, often relying on individual brilliance from players like Wilfried Zaha.

Considering the current form of both teams, I predict that West Ham United will come out on top in this matchup. Their attacking prowess and solid defense should give them the edge over Crystal Palace.

    Odds:

According to leading sportsbooks, the odds for this match are as follows:

    – West Ham United: 1.80
    – Draw: 3.50
    – Crystal Palace: 4.50

    Picks:

Based on the odds and my prediction, my pick for this game is West Ham United to win. With their strong form and home advantage, I believe they will secure a victory over Crystal Palace. Additionally, a bet on Michail Antonio to score anytime could also be a good option, given his impressive goal-scoring record this season.

Overall, this match promises to be an exciting one, with both teams eager to secure three points. Make sure to tune in and see how it all unfolds!

West Ham will be going in search of their second London derby win in succession under new boss Graham Potter on Saturday, as they host capital rivals Crystal Palace at the London Stadium.

Potter claimed his first win as Hammers boss on Tuesday as he oversaw a battling 3-2 win over Fulham, despite his team starting the game with no recognized striker thanks to a spate of injuries.

Crystal Palace, meanwhile, find themselves just two places below their opponents in 15th in the English Premier League, and a win here would see them leapfrog the home side. The Eagles will out for revenge having slipped to a 2-0 defeat at home in the reverse fixture at the end of August last year.

West Ham United take on Crystal Palace on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the London Stadium, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. GMT local time. That makes it a 10 a.m. ET or 7 a.m. PT start in the US and Canada, and an 2 a.m. AEDT kickoff in Australia in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Below, we’ll outline the best live TV streaming services to use to watch the match as it happens, wherever you are in the world.

How to watch the Premier League 2024-25 season from anywhere with a VPN

If you find yourself unable to view EPL matches locally, you may need a different way to watch the games — that’s where using a VPN can come in handy. A VPN is also the best way to stop your ISP from throttling your speeds on game day by encrypting your traffic, and it’s also a great idea if you’re traveling and find yourself connected to a Wi-Fi network, and you want to add an extra layer of privacy for your devices and logins.

With a VPN, you’re able to virtually change your location on your phone, tablet or laptop to get access to the game. Most VPNs, like our Editors’ Choice, ExpressVPN, make it really easy to do this.

Using a VPN to watch or stream sports is legal in any country where VPNs are legal, including the US, UK and Canada, as long as you have a legitimate subscription to the service you’re streaming. You should be sure your VPN is set up correctly to prevent leaks: Even where VPNs are legal, the streaming service may terminate the account of anyone it deems to be circumventing correctly applied blackout restrictions.

ExpressVPN is our current best VPN pick for people who want a reliable and safe VPN, and it works on a variety of devices. It’s normally $13 a month, but if you sign up for an annual subscription for $100 you’ll get three months free and save 49%. That’s the equivalent of $6.67 a month.

Note that ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Can I livestream West Ham vs. Crystal Palace in the UK?

No broadcaster has the rights to show this game live in the UK, due to the traditional Saturday 3 p.m. kickoff blackout, which prohibits matches from being shown in the region at that time to protect attendances throughout the English football pyramid.

That also means that if you’re in the UK traveling for pleasure or for work, you’re unlikely to be able to watch the game like you normally would at home, thanks to geoblocking.

There’s one option to get around this. By using a VPN, as explained above, you can set your location to a country where the match is being broadcast and go from there.

Livestream West Ham vs. Crystal Palace in Canada

If you want to stream this EPL game live in Canada, you’ll need to subscribe to Fubo Canada. The service has exclusive rights to every Premier League fixture once again this season.

    Fubo

Fubo is the go-to destination for Canadians looking to watch the EPL this season, with exclusive streaming rights to every match. It costs CA$30 a month, though you can save some cash by paying quarterly or annually.

Livestream West Ham vs. Crystal Palace in Australia

Football fans Down Under can watch EPL matches live on streaming service Optus Sport, which is showing every single Premier League fixture of the 2024-25 season live in Australia.

    Optus

With exclusive rights to stream all EPL matches live this season, as well as German Bundesliga and Spanish La Liga games, streaming service Optus Sport is a particularly big draw for Aussie soccer fans.

If you’re already an Optus network customer, you can bag Optus Sport for a reduced price, with discounts bringing the price down to as low as AU$7 a month. If you’re not, a standalone monthly subscription to the service starts at AU$25.

Quick tips for streaming the Premier League using a VPN

    • With four variables at play — your ISP, browser, video streaming provider and VPN — your experience and success when streaming EPL matches may vary.
    • If you don’t see your desired location as a default option for ExpressVPN, try using the “search for city or country” option.
    • If you’re having trouble getting the game after you’ve turned on your VPN and set it to the correct viewing area, there are two things you can try for a quick fix. First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs — like Roku — don’t have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you’ll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you’re using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location.
    • All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network’s sports app, you’ll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location.
    • And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you’re using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. We normally recommend Brave.

  • Preview: West Ham United vs. Crystal Palace – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday’s Premier League clash between West Ham United and Crystal Palace, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two Premier League teams looking to win back-to-back games lock horns at the London Stadium on Saturday afternoon as West Ham United play host to Crystal Palace.

The Eagles will be seeking revenge against the Hammers after they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the reverse fixture at Selhurst Park at the end of August last year.

    Match preview

Four days after suffering a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in the FA Cup, Graham Potter marked his Premier League managerial debut with West Ham by guiding the Hammers to a much-needed 3-2 victory over Fulham at the London Stadium on Tuesday night.

Although Alex Iwobi‘s second-half brace set up a nervy finish, goals from Carlos Soler, Tomas Soucek and Lucas Paqueta ultimately secured maximum points for West Ham, who have climbed up to 13th place in the Premier League table, 10 points above the drop zone and nine points behind the top seven.

Potter has admitted that the Hammers’ victory against Fulham was “stressful” at times and his team “cannot get carried away”, but he was pleased with the application of his players and to watch three goals fly into the back of the net, especially with attacking trio Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug all out injured.

West Ham, who have not won back-to-back Premier League games since February/March 2024, will endeavour to complete a top-flight double over Crystal Palace for the first time since the 2016-17 campaign when the two teams face off on Saturday.

The Hammers will fancy their chances of making the net ripple, as they have scored in each of their last 21 Premier League encounters with the Eagles – their longest scoring streak against an opponent in their top-flight history.

Crystal Palace have put together a five-game run without defeat in all competitions and preserved their unbeaten start to 2025 when they secured a 2-0 victory away against Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Second-half goals from Jean-Philippe Mateta and Marc Guehi helped the Eagles pick up maximum points for the third time in their last four Premier League away games, as well as extend their unbeaten run on the road to six matches – their longest in the top flight since February 1992.

Oliver Glasner was pleased with the reaction of his players following a “louder” half-time discussion in the dressing room, and the Austrian boss now sees his Palace side sitting 15th in the table, eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Crystal Palace head into Saturday’s encounter with West Ham having won just one of their last 22 away London derbies in the Premier League (D11 L10) and they are winless in their last 13 such games since beating the Hammers 2-1 in November 2022.

The Eagles’ recent form at West Ham bodes well ahead of their trip to the London Stadium, though, as they are unbeaten in their last five away meetings with the East London outfit; only against Tottenham Hotspur have they ever had a longer unbeaten away run against an opponent in their top-flight history (seven between 1990 and 2004).

    Team News

Carlos Soler celebrates after scoring for West Ham United on January 14, 2025© Imago

West Ham will be without Antonio (leg), Bowen (foot), Fullkrug (hamstring) and Jean-Clair Todibo (unspecified) due to injury, while Crysencio Summerville (thigh) is doubtful and will be assessed ahead of kickoff after missing the midweek win over Fulham.

Paqueta was deployed as a false nine last time out and the Brazilian could retain his place in a central role if Potter opts against handing Danny Ings a start down the middle.

Vladimir Coufal will be hoping to force has way into the first XI, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka is set to keep his place at right-back, joining Max Kilman, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Emerson Palmieri in a four-man defence.

As for Crystal Palace, Matheus Franca (muscle) and Adam Wharton (groin) remain sidelined with injuries, while Jefferson Lerma will be assessed after he was taken off on the 20-minute mark in Palace’s win at Leicester due to illness.

Mateta, Eberechi Eze, Will Hughes and Tyrick Mitchell were among those who also suffered with illness prior to kickoff, but they all started against the Foxes and are in contention to play again this weekend.

The potential absence of Lerma could see either Cheick Doucoure or Daichi Kamada handed a start in centre-midfield next to Hughes, while the rest of Glasner’s lineup could remain intact.

West Ham United possible starting lineup:
Fabianski; Wan-Bissaka, Mavropanos, Kilman, Emerson; Alvarez, Rodriguez; Kudus, Soucek, Soler; Paqueta

    Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Richards, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Hughes, Doucoure, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta

    SM words green background

We say: West Ham United 2-2 Crystal Palace

Fourteen of the last 15 Premier League meetings between West Ham and Crystal Palace have seen both teams score, with three or more goals scored on 10 of those occasions, so goalmouth action at both ends can be expected this weekend.

The Hammers and the Eagles both have reason to be confident of success here, but there is little to separate these two teams, so an entertaining score draw could be on the cards in East London.

In this exciting Premier League clash, West Ham United will host Crystal Palace at the London Stadium. Both teams will be looking to secure three points and continue their push for a top-half finish in the league table.

    Team News:
West Ham United will be without the services of Michail Antonio, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury. However, they will be boosted by the return of Declan Rice, who is expected to start in midfield. Manager David Moyes will have a fully fit squad to choose from, with the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Tomas Soucek in fine form.

Crystal Palace, on the other hand, will be without the injured trio of James Tomkins, Nathan Ferguson, and Connor Wickham. However, they will have Wilfried Zaha back in the starting lineup after serving his suspension. Manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping for a solid defensive performance from his team, with the likes of Gary Cahill and Joel Ward expected to feature.

    Predicted Lineups:
West Ham United: Fabianski, Coufal, Dawson, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Rice, Soucek, Fornals, Benrahma, Lingard, Bowen

Crystal Palace: Guaita, Ward, Cahill, Kouyate, Mitchell, Milivojevic, Riedewald, Eze, Townsend, Zaha, Benteke

    Prediction:
This match promises to be a closely contested affair, with both teams in good form. West Ham will be looking to build on their recent success and secure a win at home, while Crystal Palace will be aiming to continue their solid defensive display and hit the Hammers on the counter-attack.

I predict a 2-1 victory for West Ham United, with Jesse Lingard and Jarrod Bowen getting on the scoresheet for the home side. However, Crystal Palace will put up a strong fight and will make it a difficult game for the Hammers.

Make sure to tune in to this exciting match to see which team comes out on top!
