Fantasy football Week 17 inactives: Who’s in and who’s out?

Whom should you start? Whom should you sit? To help you set your fantasy football lineups and avoid starting an offensive player who won’t be in the lineup, we’ll post fantasy-relevant updates and analysis here as NFL teams release their official inactives lists. Any rankings cited in this column come from our ESPN Fantasy staff ranks.

Official Sunday inactives should begin coming in approximately 90 minutes before the scheduled kickoff times: around 11:30 a.m. ET for the early games and 2:30 p.m. ET for the late-afternoon games.

Refresh often for the latest information.

    1 p.m. ET games

Chuba Hubbard, RB, CAR: Knee — OUT/IR
Impact: Either Raheem Blackshear or Mike Boone (or some combination of both) will try to pick up the slack.

Xavier Legette, WR, CAR: Hip — Questionable
Impact: The current plan is for him to play, but Adam Thielen is still the team’s top WR option.

CeeDee Lamb, WR, DAL: Shoulder — OUT/IR
Impact: He will miss the last two games of the season. If you’re not in a keeper league, let him go.

Jalen Brooks, WR, DAL: Knee — Questionable
Impact: If he can play, he’ll get a portion of the targets typically left for Lamb …

Jalen Tolbert, WR, DAL: Finger — Questionable
Impact: … as will Tolbert. Brandin Cooks will be the team’s No. 1 WR option.

Anthony Richardson, QB, IND: Back — OUT
Impact: Could Joe Flacco lead to Colts into the playoffs? Stranger things have happened.

Derek Carr, QB, NO: Hand — OUT
Impact: Spencer Rattler will start in place of Carr.

Alvin Kamara, RB, NO: Groin — OUT
Impact: Kamara could well sit out next week as well. Kendre Miller should head a RB committee.

Chris Olave, WR, NO: Head — OUT
Impact: Although he practiced early in the week, there was little reason for the Saints to play him this week.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, NO: Chest — Questionable
Impact: With Olave sitting, MVS becomes the Saints’ WR MVP for Week 17.

Malik Nabers, WR, NYG: Toe — Questionable
Impact: All signs point to a typical Sunday of action for Nabers.

Davante Adams, WR, NYJ: Hip — Questionable
Impact: With little left to play for but pride, the fact Adams practiced at all this week points to him playing on Sunday.

Jalen Hurts, QB, PHI: Concussion — OUT
Impact: Kenny Pickett is dealing with some sore ribs, but he will start in place of Hurts.

Cade Otton, TE, TB: Knee — OUT
Impact: My prediction? Payne (as in Payne Durham, who will start in Otton’s place).

Sterling Shepard, WR, TB: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: There’s no reason to try to figure out who gets the targets left over after Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan have their fill.

Nick Folk, K, TEN: Abdomen — OUT
Impact: Matthew Wright will kick in his place.

Tony Pollard, RB, TEN: Ankle — OUT
Impact: It will be Tyjae Spears early and often in the Tennessee backfield.

Tyler Boyd, WR, TEN: Foot — Questionable
Impact: Even if he manages to suit up, there’s little reason to trust him for fantasy purposes.

    4 p.m. ET games

Jameis Winston, QB, CLE: Shoulder — Questionable
Impact: Unless Dorian Thompson-Robinson gets hurt, don’t expect to see Winston this week — or next.

David Njoku, TE, CLE: Knee — OUT
Impact: With no practice time this week, Njoku will sit and Jordan Akins will start.

Cedric Tillman, WR, CLE: Concussion — OUT
Impact: Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore will be the primary WR options this week.

Christian Watson, WR, GB: Knee — Questionable
Impact: While there is still an outside chance Watson can go, Dontayvion Wicks is the more likely No. 3 WR for the Packers this week.

Tua Tagovailoa, QB, MIA: Hip — Doubtful
Impact: It’s a must-win situation for Miami, but Tyler Huntley might be the guy to get snaps under center.

Tyreek Hill, WR, MIA: Wrist — Questionable
Impact: He’s been playing through this injury for some time now. Expect him to start.

Jaylen Waddle, WR, MIA: Knee — Questionable
Impact: There’s some optimism he can play, but this is looking likely to be a game-time call.

    Sunday night game

Dyami Brown, WR, WAS: Hamstring — OUT
Impact: All hail the “Great and Powerful Oz,” aka Olamide Zaccheaus.

  • Gator Bowl‘last ride’ for Dart, who’s accepted Senior Bowl invite

Gator Bowl‘last ride’ for Dart, who’s accepted Senior Bowl invite

Jaxson Dart has known for weeks the Gator Bowl would be his final game in an Ole Miss uniform.

Still, the third-year star quarterback made the news official on Friday. Dart declared for the NFL Draft. He also accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl, joining his Rebel teammates Princely Umanmielen, Trey Amos, Jared Ivey and Caden Davis.

No. 14 Ole Miss (9-3, 5-3 SEC) takes on Duke (9-3, 5-3 ACC) in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 2, 2025. Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.

“Words cannot express the depth of my feelings and emotions,” Dart wrote in a statement released on social media. “Thank you for the love and support that y’all have shown me at Ole Miss. I really and truly came of age at this great university.

“I did everything in my power to make y’all proud as a person and player and gave it everything I had to bring you wins, success and excitement.

“We have unfinished business. I can’t wait to put on that No. 2 Ole Miss jersey for one last ride with my guys before beginning preparation for the 2025 NFL Draft.”

Dart this season became the school’s all-time leader in career passing yards.

He passed Eli Manning. His 10,213 yards are the 10th-most in SEC history. He’s thrown for 68 touchdowns and rushed for 1,455 career yards and 12 additional scores.

Dart owns the most wins (26) of any Ole Miss quarterback since Archie Manning in 1968.

“Ultimate leader every day by example,” now-sixth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said in response to Dart’s statement. “Completely selfless. He didn’t just write that down and post it; he lived it every day.

“We are blessed to have you as a teammate.”

RELATED: Jaxson Dart can’t avoid reminders his days as an Ole Miss Rebel are coming to an end

Dart and eight other Rebels were named All-SEC by the league coaches. He became the first Ole Miss signal-caller to pick up the honors in eight years. Dart’s poised to pass Matt Corral for the single-season record for yards per pass attempt. Dart’s at 10.7. Corral averaged 10.2.

“He’s been an amazing leader,” Kiffin said earlier this month. “Set a bunch of records here, but how he’s been as a leader and how he’s been for this university has been awesome. (The Gator Bowl) is another example of it, making sure he finishes what he started.”

Dart is currently second behind Corral in career completion percentage (65.3).

Dart, a one-time transfer from USC, has completed 703 of his 1,083 career attempts. Corral holds the record at 67.3 percent. He’s fourth in the nation in passing yards (3,875).

“Guys like (Dart) are the ones that give defensive coordinators nightmares,” Duke head coach Manny Diaz said. “You add the experience and intangibles of who he is, teams and offenses usually respond to leaders like that. Looks like why they’ve had the success that they’ve had.”

The Gator Bowl will mark the ‘last ride’ for Dart, the star quarterback who has accepted an invite to the Senior Bowl. This game will be a bittersweet moment for Dart, as he closes out his college career on a high note before moving on to showcase his talents at the next level. Join us as we cheer on Dart and the team in their final game together, and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. #GatorBowl #SeniorBowl #LastRide #Dart’sJourney

  • Detroit Lions reuniting with former Pro Bowler who’s coming out of retirement

Detroit Lions reuniting with former Pro Bowler who’s coming out of retirement

The Detroit Lions are reportedly set to bolster their quarterbacks room with just a few weeks to go before the playoffs, and the player they’re bringing in is a familiar face.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and is expected to sign with the Lions.

“Comeback: High school state championship-winning coach and NFL QB Teddy Bridgewater is coming out of retirement and is expected to sign with the Lions, sources tell The Insiders,” Rapoport reported.

Bridgewater made his intentions to come out of retirement known earlier this month in an interview with NFL Network.

“That’s the plan,” Bridgewater said about returning to the NFL. “My team knows that’s the plan. We wanted to win a state championship and then coach goes back to the league, see what happens, and then come back February in the offseason, continue coaching high school football. We’ll see how it plays out.”

The team Bridgewater is talking about is his high school alma mater, Miami (Florida) Northwestern, who he recently led to a state championship as the head coach after retiring from the NFL to take the job earlier this year.

Bridgewater made it clear that he intends to return to the high school head-coaching gig after this season is over.

A former first-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, Bridgewater spent the 2023 campaign with the Lions, serving as Jared Goff’s backup. He did not attempt a pass the entire season, as Goff was able to stay healthy.

The Lions do have Hendon Hooker on the roster, but he’s a total wild card thanks to his lack of experience. Bridgewater gives the Lions an experienced insurance policy for Goff.

Prior to his stint in Detroit, Bridgewater spent time with the Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins. He earned a Pro Bowl nod with the Vikings in 2015.

The Detroit Lions have announced that they are reuniting with former Pro Bowler, Calvin Johnson, who is coming out of retirement to join the team once again. Johnson, also known as “Megatron,” retired in 2016 after a successful nine-year career with the Lions.

The 36-year-old wide receiver expressed his desire to return to the game and the Lions were quick to welcome him back with open arms. Johnson was a dominant force on the field during his time with the Lions, earning six Pro Bowl selections and three First-Team All-Pro honors.

Fans are thrilled to see Johnson back in action and are hopeful that his return will bring some much-needed firepower to the Lions’ offense. Johnson’s incredible talent and work ethic make him a valuable asset to any team, and his presence on the field is sure to make a significant impact for the Lions this upcoming season.
