ST. PAUL, Minn. — Minnesota Wild star Kirill Kaprizov needs surgery on the lingering lower body injury he recently returned from and will be sidelined for at least a month.

General manager Bill Guerin said Tuesday that Kaprizov is expected to be back with the team later this season. The impact of his absence will be stemmed a bit by the two-week break on the NHL schedule next month for the 4 Nations Face-Off tournament.

Kaprizov missed about a month after being injured in late December. He returned to the ice on Thursday after a 12-game absence and played three games before being shut down again.

The 27-year-old three-time All-Star was having another stellar season, with 52 points in 37 games. He’s third on the team in average time on ice and first in plus/minus rating at +19.

The Wild looked like league leaders through the first quarter of the season, but injuries have staggered them. They’re still in playoff position, but have lost six of their last nine.

The Minnesota Wild’s star forward Kirill Kaprizov will need surgery, sidelining him for at least a month. This news comes as a blow to the team, as Kaprizov has been a key player for them this season.

Kaprizov has been dealing with a nagging injury for some time now, and it has finally been determined that surgery is necessary to fully address the issue. While losing Kaprizov for a month is certainly a setback for the Wild, they are hopeful that he will be able to make a full recovery and return to the ice stronger than ever.

In the meantime, the Wild will need to find a way to fill the void left by Kaprizov’s absence. They will be looking to other players to step up and contribute in his absence, and will be hoping to stay competitive in his absence.

We wish Kirill Kaprizov a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the ice soon. In the meantime, let’s rally behind the Wild as they continue to push forward without their star forward.

  • Gravios the Armor Wyvern Confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds

Another returning monster has been confirmed for Monster Hunter Wilds. After missing out on the series’ fifth generation, Gravios the Armor Wyvern will make its first mainline appearance since Generations Ultimate. This reveal has increased excitement for Capcom’s upcoming action RPG, just like any new detail we learn about the game. Now, let’s look at exactly how this Flying Wyvern became the most recent talk of the town when it comes to Wilds.

The Surprising Reveal of the Armor Wyvern

Unlike the other monster reveals, Capcom didn’t announce Gravios’ return. Instead, an IGN video meant to show off the cooking in the game became the culprit. That video takes place in the Oilwell Basin, the third locale to be revealed for Wilds. The main topic of the video, which includes an interview with members of the dev team, is interesting in itself. However, Gravios took the spotlight after viewers spotted the Flying Wyvern’s icon was spotted in the video about 25 seconds in. Thanks to fans translating the mission objective at the top right of the video, we now know that the objective for the player character was to hunt a Gravios.

Based on how the monster’s return was revealed, it can be speculated that this was an accident on IGN’s part. Considering that every returning monster so far has been confirmed by a trailer or an official showcase by Capcom, this may very well be the case. However, the Monster Hunter team has surprised the fanbase before, so this could also have been a well-thought-out decision on the dev team’s part.

    Gravios’ History in the Series

Whether the return of Gravios was revealed by accident or on purpose, excitement is brewing to see Wilds‘ version of the monster. It was first introduced in the very first game of the series. It has since appeared in 10 games, including Wilds. Outside of the main series, the Armor Wyvern has been seen in the now-defunct Monster Hunter Frontier, Online, and Riders. Gravios can also be raised and trained as a Monstie in both Monster Hunter Stories games, the first of which was remastered and re-released in June of 2024.

The absence of Gravios in one of the fifth-generation games, Monster Hunter Rise, sparked controversy among the player base. This is because the immature version of it, Basarios, was in the game. Fans were left confused and annoyed that the adult version never made it, even with the addition of the Sunbreak expansion. The sentiment is similar for those who wanted Zamtrios and Agnaktor in the game. The younger and much smaller versions of those monsters, Zamite and Uroktor, are in the game.

    The Monster Roster So Far

Exciting news for Monster Hunter fans! The fearsome Gravios, known as the Armor Wyvern, has been confirmed for the upcoming game Monster Hunter Wilds. This massive and heavily armored monster is sure to provide a formidable challenge for players as they work to take it down and claim its valuable materials for crafting powerful gear.

With its thick, impenetrable hide and devastating fire attacks, Gravios is a force to be reckoned with. Hunters will need to bring their A-game and strategize carefully in order to emerge victorious in battle against this formidable foe.

Are you ready to face the Armor Wyvern in Monster Hunter Wilds? Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to embark on an epic hunting adventure like never before!

  • Monster Hunter Wilds: Gravios Returns in This Exclusive Gameplay – IGN First

Gravios is a hard-shelled monster that’s been deflecting our attacks since the original Monster Hunter, and it’s back in Monster Hunter Wilds’ Oilwell Basin. A few things about this foreboding, unexpected Flying Wyvern have changed, which you can see for yourself in the exclusive Gravios gameplay videos in this article.

Gravios is the sixth returning monster revealed for Monster Hunter Wilds, after Congalala, Yian Kut-Ku, Gypceros, and the quintessential Rathalos and Rathian. You can read all about how the Monster Hunter developers select monsters for each game in our in-depth interview.

As for Gravios, Monster Hunter Wilds director Yuya Tokuda said: “When we were thinking about a monster that would fit the Oilwell Basin environment and would not overlap in gameplay terms when looking at the overall ecosystem hierarchy, we realized we could reintroduce Gravios in a way that felt fresh to play, so we decided to bring it back this time.”

Historically, Gravios appears in volcanic areas in the Monster Hunter series. The Oilwell Basin fits that trope, especially during the Firespring inclemency, where burning lava can be seen in much of the area. The heat sure doesn’t bother this durable monster.

We last saw Gravios in Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, which you can see in action in the comparison video above. It’s definitely changed a bit, both visually and mechanically.

The monster now feels like it is actually there in that terrain.

“Of course, the details, textures, and other aspects of Gravios’ design have been greatly improved compared with previous titles,” explained Kaname Fujioka, executive director and art director for Monster Hunter Wilds. “While we maintained the hardness of its outer shell, we also had the team work hard on things like the depiction of the impact of Gravios’ laser-like attack when it hits the ground, which has been difficult to do up until now. The monster now feels like it is actually there in that terrain. We were able to express how the actions of the monster have a reaction on the terrain, and we worked very carefully on those elements.”

One of Gravios’ new attacks, where it shoots a laser directly down into the ground, creating an area of burning terrain, perfectly demonstrates the upgrade Fujioka refers to. Gravios has also adapted another “new” move: a poison gas attack, previously exclusive to its juvenile form, Basarios. The Monster Hunter developers did confirm that Basarios will not be joining Gravios in Wilds.

Gravios has other tricks up its sleeve, but we’ll let you discover those on your own. We did experience a potential softer side to Gravios – meaning, it was slightly easier to get through its tough hide, and we deflected less often than in previous versions.

Tokuda explains the technical reasons why this may have felt different to us: “In the past, we could only assign rough data to specify the consistency of the monster’s flesh, so if you didn’t hit the soft spots with weapons such as the Lance, you wouldn’t be able to deal damage. With the Great Sword, the hit detection is also large, so you could hit the hard parts of the flesh and end up bouncing right off. With Gravios in Wilds, attacks against its hard shell will still bounce off, but if you position yourself properly and aim for its backside you can more effectively deal damage. Weapons and monster flesh can now be gradated in a more granular way than in previous games, while Focus Mode makes it easier to aim, so advances in technology have helped us to refine many aspects of the gameplay experience while fighting Gravios.”

He continued: “In the past, there were technical issues that prevented us from assigning different skin hardness or toughness values to many different parts of a monster’s body. Because hit detection models were made using shapes like spheres and cylinders, the shape of the hit box did not always match the actual design of the monster’s body. But modern technology has allowed us to add hit detection in a way that matches the monster’s body. Including the Focus Mode, we felt that we finally had the technology to create a game where you could carefully watch a monster’s movements, find its weak points and then aim for them, so we took on the challenge this time.”

Do you welcome or shun the return of Gravios? Personally, I don’t know if I’ll ever recover from the trauma it inflicted while I tried to deliver Powderstones in the original Monster Hunter, but fighting it in Monster Hunter Wilds sure felt great.

  • Wild’s Spurgeon out 2-3 weeks after getting hurt on L’Heureux slew-foot

Wild’s Spurgeon out 2-3 weeks after getting hurt on L’Heureux slew-foot

WASHINGTON — Minnesota Wild captain Jared Spurgeon was expected to sit out two to three weeks because of an apparent right leg injury after being slew-footed earlier this week by Nashville’s Zachary L’Heureux, who was suspended three games for his actions.

General manager Bill Guerin called Spurgeon “week to week” without going into further specifics about the injury other than confirming surgery would not be required.

“It’s not as bad as we originally thought,” Guerin said Thursday before his team played at the Washington Capitals. “It’s still bad enough because he’s not in our lineup. … And, obviously, that’s not great for our team.”

Spurgeon’s right leg bent awkwardly when he crashed into the boards after having his skates taken out from under him and shoulders pushed backward by L’Heureux early in the second period of the teams’ game Tuesday. L’Heureux was ejected with a match penalty and loses $13,490 in salary as part of the suspension after having a disciplinary hearing with the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.

Guerin said he was “not happy” with the play. Though this is L’Heureux’s first suspension in the NHL, he was involved in nine incidents at the junior level and two more in the American Hockey League. That history can’t be factored into Player Safety’s decision.

“That’s not for me to answer that,” Guerin said. “That’s a question for the league. The league has their process, and they handled it. We live with that. In the end it doesn’t get our player back. That’s what makes me lose sleep at night is they get their player back in three games. Ours is out two to three weeks.”

Minnesota has been playing without defenseman Jake Middleton for almost a month since he took a puck off his right hand. Leading scorer Kirill Kaprizov is also day to day because of a lower-body injury.

Middleton could return as soon as next week. The Wild have no interest in rushing back Kaprizov, an MVP contender who ranked fourth in the league with 23 goals and eighth with 50 points going into Thursday’s games.

“We don’t want him to come back and push through,” Guerin said. “He could, but it could make something worse. We need him for the long haul. We don’t just need him for a couple games in January. We need him to get healthy and feel better, so we’re trying to do the right thing and just look at it from the long point of view.”

Spurgeon is facing another extended absence a year after season-ending hip and back surgeries. Those injuries limited him to 16 games last season.

“It’s unfortunate because it’s something obviously you think would be preventable, but it is the game, so you get hurt,” coach John Hynes said. “Spurgy’s a mentally tough guy. He’ll make sure that he’s ready to get back as soon as he can.”

Spurgeon, 35, was playing well before being injured this time, putting up four goals and nine assists for 13 points while skating nearly 21 minutes a game.

“It’s brutal,” teammate and fellow defenseman Brock Faber said. “He’s going to come back from it stronger than ever. That’s how he is. That’s what he does. There’s no doubt in our minds that he’s going to get through this thing.”

Hynes and the coaching staff cautioned they don’t want Faber, Jonas Brodin and others on the blue line to overcompensate and take on too much while Spurgeon is unavailable.

“Those guys just have to continue to do what they do,” Hynes said. “Spurgy’s not with us, but no one’s going to replace him, so everyone has to play their role. Brodin and Faber don’t have to do anything different because Spurgeon’s out. They still play huge minutes. They still play important situations. They’ve just got to do their job.”

The Minnesota Wild’s defenseman Jared Spurgeon will be out of the lineup for the next 2-3 weeks after suffering an injury in a controversial play involving the Nashville Predators’ Xavier L’Heureux. Spurgeon was the victim of a slew-foot from L’Heureux, causing him to fall awkwardly and injure his lower body.

The Wild’s head coach Bruce Boudreau expressed his frustration with the play, calling it a dirty move that has no place in the game. The league has not announced any disciplinary action against L’Heureux, but the incident has sparked a debate about player safety and the need for stricter penalties for dangerous plays.

Spurgeon’s absence will be a big blow to the Wild, as he is a key player on their blue line and contributes both offensively and defensively. The team will need to rely on their depth and rally together to fill the void left by his absence.

Fans are hopeful for a speedy recovery for Spurgeon and are eager to see him back on the ice soon. In the meantime, they will be cheering on the Wild as they continue to compete in his absence.
