Winning the lottery is a dream that many people have, but for one lucky resident of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, that dream became a reality overnight. The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, purchased a winning ticket and claimed a jackpot worth millions of dollars.
The winner’s life has been completely transformed as a result of this unexpected windfall. Overnight, they went from living paycheck to paycheck to being able to afford a life of luxury. They no longer have to worry about financial struggles or making ends meet. Instead, they can focus on enjoying their newfound wealth and living a life of comfort and abundance.
With their newfound fortune, the winner has been able to fulfill lifelong dreams and aspirations. They have purchased a new home, a luxury car, and have taken extravagant vacations to exotic destinations. They have also been able to help out family and friends in need, donating to charities and causes that are close to their heart.
The winner’s sudden wealth has also brought about some challenges and adjustments. They have had to navigate the complexities of managing a large sum of money, including hiring financial advisors and accountants to help them make wise investment decisions. They have also had to deal with the newfound attention and scrutiny that comes with being a lottery winner, as well as the pressure to live up to the expectations that come with such a significant windfall.
Despite the challenges, the Sheboygan lottery winner remains grateful for their good fortune and is determined to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. They are embracing their new life with a sense of gratitude and humility, knowing that they are incredibly fortunate to have been chosen as the recipient of such a life-changing prize.
The story of the Sheboygan lottery winner serves as a reminder of the transformative power of luck and fortune. It shows that life can change in an instant, and that unexpected blessings can come our way when we least expect them. For the winner, their life has been forever altered by a stroke of luck, and they are determined to make the most of this incredible opportunity.
The broadcast bounce is real. As 2024 ends, CBS led the pack in total viewers for the year thanks, of course, to Super Bowl LVIII. No surprise, live sports continues to work its magic for the traditional networks, as NBC was also up year vs. year and even took the adults 18-49 crown for 2024 — bolstered by the tremendously successful Paris Olympics. ABC, meanwhile, was virtually flat (OK, down 1%) from 2023, which these days is a big win — and presumably the Alphabet web was helped by airing more NFL Monday Night Football games this fall.
Among the Big 4, only Fox was down by double digits — and that can be explained by the fact that it ran the Super Bowl in 2023, so of course it’s going to be down. In cable, unless you were a news network in a major presidential election year, well, it was another year of dramatic declines.
More from Variety
Tomorrow, Variety will share the ranker of this year’s most-watched primetime telecasts. But here, we recount which networks were up and (mostly) down in 2024.
WINNERS
CBS, NBC, ABC: Even though the NFL and other sports coverage gets most of the credit for keeping broadcast afloat, that’s not the only story. This has been a solid fall for the linear nets in entertainment fare as well, which boasts breakout fall hits like CBS’ “Matlock,” ABC’s “High Potential” and NBC’s “Happy’s Place.” Broadcast still matters in 2024, whereas cable… well, we’ll get to that in a second.
TELEMUNDO: On the Spanish language side, we have quite a smackdown brewing. Perennial leader Univision is still on top, but Telemundo is coming after the crown. NBCU-owned Telemundo was up a whopping 12% this year — tying CBS for the biggest jump in broadcast. (And if you take out special events, Telemundo actually claims the primetime victory in primetime for the first time in history.)
JUSTICE CENTRAL, AMERICAN CRIMES AND OTHER DIGI-NETS: Perhaps the most interesting trivia of the year comes from the growth of obscure digital networks that mostly exist on over-the-air HD subchannels but also have some satellite, cable and even AVOD carriage. You’ve likely never heard of these networks — and granted, they’re starting from a small base, so their percentage gain can be enormous.
But here’s something to share at your next cocktail parties: Ask your friends what the two fastest-growing TV networks were in 2024. They’ll never get it right. The answer is Justice Central (up 508%) and American Crimes (up 460%).
What the hell are those channels? Justice Central is owned by Byron Allen’s company, airing mostly court reality shows he produces. But this year, the network also added old episodes of the original “Matlock” and “Perry Mason” to the mix — hence the rise. Meanwhile, American Crimes is owned by NBC and took the place of its lifestyle NBC LX channel, airing true crime shows from the NBCU library like “Dateline” and “Lockup.” NBCU did absolutely no press on this quiet rebrand — we bet most staffers at the company don’t even know this channel exists, and who knows where in might land in the upcoming SpinCo spinoff — but it seems to be working for the viewers who find it.
Other digi-nets with strong years include Charge! (up 33%), Dabl (up 38%), Telexitos (up 39%) and TBD TV (up 80%). The secrets to their success vary: Dabl, owned by Paramount but managed by Weigel broadcasting, switched to a comedy format in 2024, airing mostly shows from the early days of UPN (“Girlfriends,” “Moesha,” “Everybody Hates Chris”). Telexitos, owned by NBCU (another one they might want to hold on to?) airs old Spanish TV repeats. Charge!, owned by Sinclair, runs crime dramas like “CSI: Miami.” And TBD, also owned by Sinclair, shifted away from viral videos in 2024 to a mix of comedy repeats like “SNL” and “Key and Peele,” hence the ratings bump.
MOST “NEWS” NETWORKS: This presidential year, the big story was the expanding dominance of Fox News, which was up a tremendous 30% in viewers to make it the fifth most-watched network in 2024, behind entertainment sibling Fox. MSNBC also remained a top 10 network, at No. 7 but up a more modest 4%. Despite its difficulties, CNN could still find solace at rising 20% and landing at No. 15. Also up 31% was Newsmax, although still at No. 38. The one network that bafflingly didn’t get an election bump? Newsnation, which dropped 1% in 2024.
BIG TEN NETWORK: While many of the league-based networks saw declines in 2024, including the NFL Network (down 26%) and NBA TV (down 2%), the Big Ten Network saw a bounce as it became the Bigger Ten. The addition of former Pac 12 teams like USC and UCLA must have had an impact, as Big Ten was up 25%.
LOSERS
SPIN-OFF CHANNELS: Perhaps the only thing tougher than being a major cable network these days is being the offshoot of a major cable network. Those channels, created in the heyday of cable carriage deal mania, are now often the first to be zombified. And indeed, most of these long ago gave up any promise of original fare and now are completely on autopilot with repeats: FXX (down 29%), Nat Geo Wild (down 29%), Cooking Channel (down 31%), American Heroes (down 27%), MTV 2 (down 31%) among them. Perhaps the saddest slump is VH1, an early MTV spinoff that held its own for decades but was down 38% in 2024.
KIDS AND TEEN NETWORKS: This is starting to sound like a broken record, as Gen Z and Gen Alpha just aren’t watching linear TV. They’re getting their Disney and Nickelodeon fix on streaming, optimistically. But as YouTube and TikTok also grab their attention, it was another rough year for everyone in this space.
STARTUPS: Pretty brave to attempt to launch a new network or attempt a big rebrand in the year 2024. So far there isn’t much to show for folks like Dr. Phil’s Merit Street or Scripps News — which was rebranded from Newsy last year. Scripps News won its first News Emmy in September… and then shut down two months later. The channel ceased operations on Nov. 16.
Below are the primetime rankers for broadcast, cable and premium cable networks in 2024, among total viewers (as well as the top 50 list in adults 18-49). Most Nielsen-rated networks can be found here, with the exception of a few channels that are not ad-supported.
As the year 2024 comes to a close, it’s time to reflect on the biggest winners and losers of the past year. From political leaders to celebrities, the past 12 months have been filled with triumphs and setbacks for many individuals. Here’s a look at who came out on top and who fell short in 2024:
Winners:
1. President Sarah Thompson – President Thompson’s approval ratings have soared in 2024 thanks to her successful handling of numerous crises, including the economic downturn and international conflicts. Her strong leadership and decisive actions have earned her praise from both sides of the political aisle.
2. Tech Entrepreneurs – The tech industry continues to thrive in 2024, with companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin making significant advancements in space exploration. The rise of virtual reality and artificial intelligence has also opened up new opportunities for tech entrepreneurs to make their mark.
3. Climate Activists – With the effects of climate change becoming more apparent, activists like Greta Thunberg have gained widespread attention for their efforts to raise awareness and push for meaningful action. The global climate strike movement has mobilized millions of people around the world to demand change from governments and corporations.
Losers:
1. Big Oil Companies – As the world shifts towards renewable energy sources, traditional oil and gas companies are facing increasing scrutiny and pressure to reduce their carbon emissions. The rise of electric vehicles and green technologies has put these companies on the defensive, leading to declining profits and market share.
2. Traditional Media Outlets – With the rise of social media and streaming services, traditional media outlets like newspapers and cable news networks are struggling to retain viewers and stay relevant. Many have been forced to downsize or adapt to the changing landscape in order to survive.
3. Anti-Vaxxers – Despite the availability of safe and effective COVID-19 vaccines, a vocal minority of anti-vaxxers continue to spread misinformation and sow doubt about their efficacy. This has led to pockets of low vaccination rates in certain communities, prolonging the pandemic and putting vulnerable populations at risk.
Overall, 2024 has been a year of highs and lows for many individuals and industries. While some have thrived in the face of adversity, others have faltered in the face of changing trends and public opinion. As we look ahead to the new year, it will be interesting to see who will continue to rise to the top and who will struggle to stay afloat in an ever-evolving world.

The New Orleans Saints traded Marshon Lattimore away earlier this season, and should consider themselves the winners after he is missing yet another game due to injury with the Washington Commanders.
It was a bittersweet moment when the Saints sent Lattimore along with a 2025 fifth-round selection to the Commanders in exchange for a package of third-, fourth- and sixth-round picks in 2025 back in November. He was a four-time Pro Bowler in New Orleans, but it felt like it was time for the parties to go their separate ways.
Lattimore has played in just two games since the trade, one against the Saints, and has looked very good in them. The problem is that he is still struggling to stay healthy with his new team. He hasn’t played a full campaign since 2021 and is now set to miss yet another game against the Atlanta Falcons after re-aggravating his hamstring injury.
New Orleans should be happy that they capitalized on his value while the iron was hot. They got their draft picks for him and can now wipe their hands of the situation. Having him still constantly making appearances on the injury report while the Saints hit rock bottom would have only made things worse. At least the draft capital will help out the inevitable rebuild.
The New Orleans Saints should be considered the winners of the Marshon Lattimore trade after news broke of his newest injury. Lattimore, a former first-round pick and Pro Bowl cornerback, was traded to the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason in a move that shocked many Saints fans.
However, with Lattimore now dealing with a reported knee injury that could potentially sideline him for a significant portion of the upcoming season, the Saints appear to have dodged a bullet by getting rid of him when they did. While Lattimore’s talent is undeniable, his injury history and the potential long-term ramifications of his latest setback make the trade look even more like a savvy move by the Saints.
In exchange for Lattimore, the Saints received a package of draft picks from the Browns, including a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. This haul gives the Saints added flexibility and ammunition to continue building their roster for the future, while also potentially allowing them to address any needs that arise as a result of Lattimore’s absence.
Overall, the Saints should be commended for their foresight in making the Lattimore trade when they did, as it now appears to have been a prescient move that could pay dividends for the team in the long run. And with Lattimore’s latest injury serving as a stark reminder of the risks associated with keeping him on the roster, the Saints can confidently claim victory in this trade.

As Baker Mayfield addressed the Oklahoma media for the final time following Oklahoma’s 54-48 double overtime loss to Georgia in last season’s Rose Bowl, Kyler Murray sat on the floor just feet away. His head hung, deep in thought.
“They are in great hands,” a somber Mayfield said that night in Pasadena as Murray sat to his left. “They have the best coach in the country, and Kyler is the best athlete in the country. They’re going to be just fine.”
Mayfield was right.
Now 341 days since that game, Oklahoma is sitting right back where it was a year ago, and Murray, arguably the Heisman Trophy favorite, is taking a walk in Mayfield’s shoes. First, in New York this weekend. Then, in the College Football Playoff seminal. He’s electrified the college football world in maybe his final season playing football and has the chance to bring home the hardware to show for it Saturday night. He’s etched his name in Oklahoma lore and his legacy may soon be set in bronze on Jenkins Avenue — something that’s been on his mind since he sat on that Rose Bowl locker room floor.
“I’ve prepared my whole life to lead a university to a national championship,” Murray said after the Rose Bowl. “It’s been a dream of mine to do that and do more.”
Now, he’s two wins away from clinching a national title and one night in New York from doing more.
‘I’ve prepared my whole life…’
Trailing Coppell High School 13-7 going into the fourth quarter, then-Allen High School head coach Tom Westerberg made a decision. He sat his senior quarterback and put in a sophomore — a transfer from Lewisville — who had shown during mop-up duty in the previous five games a spark few have. The 16-year-old kid led Allen on a nine-play 68-yard drive to start the fourth quarter, ending with him finding the end zone on a four-yard run. On the ensuing possession, he broke a 49-yard touchdown run to give Allen a 21-13 edge in the final quarter.
This, of course, was Murray before anyone knew who he was.
Murray and the Eagles would go on to lose to Coppell in overtime that Friday night, 27-24. But Murray, who started every game of his high school career from then on, would still lead Allen to a state championship in 2012. Six years later, everyone in college football knows his high school accolades. Perfect 43-0 record as a starter. Three state championships. Gatorade Player of the Year. So on and so forth.
But Murray’s football career hasn’t always been one filled with success — one can look to College Station for the first example. Murray’s one season at Texas A&M was filled with ups and downs, earning the starting position midseason only to lose it a few games later and eventually transferring to OU where he sat for two years behind Mayfield.
“I thank Baker for sure. He doesn’t know it, but I thank him more than anyone,” Murray said Monday. “I’m appreciative that I did get to the opportunity to — obviously I’m a competitor and didn’t want to sit for the time that I did, but I don’t think I’d be here right now or playing the way I am if I didn’t get to see how it’s done.”
Murray gave Sooner Nation glimpses in 2017 of what was to come in 2018. His 87-yard touchdown pass to Marquise Brown against Tulane and his 65-yard run on the first play against West Virginia are prime examples. He stayed patient that 2017 season, and now he’s reaping the reward.
From taking over against Coppell in the fourth quarter to sitting behind Mayfield for a year to that scamper against West Virginia, Murray waited his turn. And now, in likely his only season at Oklahoma, he’s grabbed the attention of the nation just like his predecessor told the country months ago.
“He’s going to break all my records,” Mayfield told Bleacher Report in June. “He’s that good.”
Then-sophomore quarterback Kyler Murray carries the ball after then-senior quarterback Baker Mayfield passes the ball to him at the Rose Bowl Jan. 1.
‘… to lead a university to a national championship…’
Again, Mayfield wasn’t wrong.
Murray has had one of the most memorable seasons to date, full of Heisman moments and statistics that will leave him among college football’s best for years to come. His choice to play one last season, despite being drafted No. 9 overall by the Oakland Athletics in the 2018 MLB Draft, has paid off — big time.
“I’ve been playing this game my entire life,” Murray said. “To leave this game with a bad taste in my mouth, after my freshman year at A&M, that’s just not who I am. I’ve worked my whole life for this. So for me, leaving after getting drafted was never an option.
“For the people that say I’m crazy for doing it, that’s just not who I am.”
Murray has been a human highlight reel this season. The bombs to Marquise Brown, the mesmerizing runs and the escape-artist esque scrambles have been plentiful. And he’s statistically having one of the greatest seasons in college football history.
“Just to watch it live — it’s like you’re watching a smaller Michael Vick,” said Jason White, who won the 2003 Heisman Trophy while at OU. “To have to fill the shoes of Baker Mayfield and what he’s done for the program, that’s a daunting task. And Kyler took it by the horns and ran with it. He’s exceeded my expectations.”
He’s on the verge of breaking Mayfield’s passing efficiency record (198.9), Russell Wilson’s total QBR record (94.2) and Sam Bradford’s total touchdown school record (55). He’s already passed Mayfield in total touchdowns (48) and yards in one less game (4,938).
But when fans look back at this season, it won’t be the stats or accolades they remember most, it’ll be the season-defining plays he made.
The 15-yard scramble against Florida Atlantic in Norman. The 67-yard against Texas at the Cotton Bowl. The fourth down conversion against West Virginia in Morgantown. And the game-sealing touchdown pass to Grant Calcaterra in the Big 12 Championship.
Those are the moments Murray will be remembered for.
“I pride myself on trying to come through for the team,” Murray said. “I just do my job the best I can do it.”
‘… and do more.’
In September, former Allen offensive coordinator Jeff Fleener had his friend place a bet for him in Las Vegas. Fleener put $20 on Murray, who he coached from 2012-14, to win the Heisman.
The ticket from the bet Jeff Fleener placed on Kyler Murray to win the Heisman Trophy.

“I just wanted the ticket that said ‘Kyler Murray for Heisman,’” Fleener said, who will be in New York for the ceremony after promising Murray he’d go if he made it. “I probably should have bet more money on him, to be honest… I knew he would be there.”
But it’s not about the money Fleener will win, yet the confidence he had in his quarterback.
And that’s why those that know Murray best, including himself, are not surprised he will be in New York Saturday night. His confidence in himself shines when his team needs him most. He’s been Oklahoma’s most valuable asset, feeling the pressure of being perfect week-in and week-out thanks to a defense that makes him have to respond nearly every time he touches the ball.
“You can look at stats all day long, but if you sit back and turn on the tape and watch Kyler play a game, watch Dwayne play a game and then watch Tua play a game,” White said, “which guy matters most for his team? And I think that’s easy to answer.”
There’s something that divides Murray from his competition. Tagovailoa and Haskins have undoubtly had great seasons, but Murray’s ability to put his team on his back every Saturday — those moments mentioned early — are what separate him from the pack.
“He’s a winner. He has that killer instinct. He’s the total package,” said former OU running back Billy Sims, who won the 1978 Heisman Trophy. “To me, he’s already won the Heisman.”
Owning a quiet personality with a loud game, Murray will nonchalantly enjoy New York City and Times Square over the weekend. It’s another opportunity for him to dress up (he told the media he will be wearing black on Saturday) and possibly give a short speech as he so often does.
But this is something he’s dreamed of, something he’s wanted since that night in Pasadena. While a goodbye may soon be coming, Saturday night won’t mark the end of his football career, it will instead celebrate the incredible season no one expected but himself.
“It went by quick,” Murray said. “For me, one season or a one-and-done type deal possibly, it’s been everything I dreamed of…
“And it’s all been worth it.”
The Heisman Trophy has evolved from a humble accolade to a year-long production, orchestrated by media outlets and wishful athletic departments.
Forged in the coal-mining region of northeast Oklahoma, Billy Vessels used an arsenal of toughness and speed to capture OU’s first Heisman Trophy.
Steve Owens was a workhorse for the Sooners, earning records and a statue that have stood the tests of time.
Billy Sims hit his lowest point as a sophomore before realizing the potential coach Barry Switzer saw in him all along.
Jason White overcame two ACL tears to lead the Sooners to a Heisman Trophy and back-to-back national championship game appearances.
Sam Bradford was gifted enough to be a good quarterback at Oklahoma. His work ethic, however, made him elite.
Baker Mayfield used to play on a field near Heisman Park as a kid. He’s now primed to add his own statue among Oklahoma’s elite.

Kyler Murray’s high school coach knew he’d be in New York. Now he’s about to take home the hardware to prove it.
