  • Woman indicted in crash that killed Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson

The Vikings honored Jackson throughout the season in the locker room and on the field.

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A woman has been indicted in connection to a crash that killed Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in July 2024.

In a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Prince George’s County (Maryland) state attorney Aisha Braveboy announced that a grand jury returned a 13-count indictment against Cori Clingman, including counts of vehicular manslaughter and driving while under the influence of alcohol. Braveboy said Clingman is currently in custody pending a bond review. She’s facing a maximum sentence of 30 years, according to Braveboy.

Police said Jackson was riding in a vehicle on July 6, 2024, in Maryland with two former high school teammates when another vehicle attempting to change lanes struck them at a high rate of speed. The two teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton, Jr., were also killed.

“These were three young men who had gotten it right in life, who had amazing, bright futures ahead of them.” said Braveboy. “But on July 6, they were taken from all of us. … This was a horrific tragedy that should not have occurred.”

The Vikings honored Jackson throughout the season in the locker room and on the field. His locker and No. 31 jersey went unused, while players wore a decal with his initials.

Jackson, 24, was a fourth-round pick for the Vikings and was in the running to earn a starting spot after a strong showing at OTAs. He was a receiver in high school and helped lead his team to two state championships before attending Arizona Western Community College. He returned home after just a few weeks and eventually got so good at video games, that he considered pursuing a career as an NBA 2K League player.

He was training for a tournament when he got a call from Fort Scott Community College about returning to the football field. He spent one season at Fort Scott before transferring to East Mississippi Community College for the 2020 season, which was eventually canceled due to COVID. He soon joined Alabama, where his first start came in the 2021 national championship game, and one year later, he transferred to Oregon to finish his collegiate career.

“From the moment Khyree was drafted and showed up here, he had a unique journey up until that moment,” Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell said in a press conference at the time of Jackson’s death.

“… Throughout the draft process and then his early time being a Minnesota Viking, you felt a guy that had such a laser focus on what his mission — his plan — was. And it really showed up in the spring. He had a very, very good spring, and was really looking forward to coming back to training camp and being well on his way to that path to having a big impact on our team for this year.”

In a tragic turn of events, a woman has been indicted in the crash that claimed the life of Vikings rookie Khyree Jackson. The young football player’s promising career was cut short in a devastating accident that has left his family, friends, and fans reeling.

The details of the crash are still under investigation, but it is clear that this loss has had a profound impact on the community. Jackson was a talented athlete with a bright future ahead of him, and his untimely death has left a void that will be difficult to fill.

As we await further developments in this case, let us remember Khyree Jackson and the impact he had on those around him. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

  • Woman of Tomorrow Adds David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham

David Krumholtz, who was recently part of the all-star cast of Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and British actress Emily Beecham have joined the space-faring cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which Craig Gillespie is directing for Warner Bros. Discovery arm DC Studios.

The feature, which began shooting this week in DC’s UK production hub of Leavesden, is inspired by the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book mini-series and stars House of the Dragon‘s Milly Alcock playing Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman.

It’s unclear how faithful the script by Ana Nogueira is to the comic, which eschewed the traditional good vs. bad tropes and instead was a cosmic character piece, spanning many worlds and alien cultures. The Eisner-nominated 2021 story was told from the perspective of a young alien girl named Ruthye who enlists the aid of Supergirl is a quest of revenge against Krem of the Yellow Hills, the man who killed her father.

Eve Ridley is on the call sheet as Ruthye while Matthias Schoenaerts is Krem. Jason Momoa is due to cameo as alien bounty hunter Lobo.

Krumholtz and Beecham will play Supergirl’s parents.

The project was one of the first features developed by DC Studios, headed by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The duo unveiled as part of the initial slate. Alcock was picked as Supergirl almost a year ago and will first appear in Gunn’s Superman movie. Supergirl gets underway this winter and will shoot in the UK.

Krumholtz has been acting since his teenage years, notably appearing in The Santa Clause movies and later starring for six seasons in CBS crime drama Numbers in the late aughts. He played Nobel Prize-winner Isidor Rabi in Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

Beecham may be best known for starring in Netflix’s mind-bending series 1899 and appeared in the Guy Ritchie thriller The Covenant with Jake Gyllenhaal. This month, she co-stars in historical epic William Tell.

Krumholtz is repped by Paradigm and Brookside Management while Beecham is repped by CAA and Entertainment 360.

Exciting news! The upcoming sci-fi film Woman of Tomorrow has added two talented actors to its cast – David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham. Krumholtz, known for his roles in The Deuce and The Santa Clause films, is sure to bring his trademark charm and wit to the project. Beecham, who recently starred in the critically acclaimed series Little Joe, is a rising star with a knack for bringing depth and complexity to her characters. With these two onboard, Woman of Tomorrow is shaping up to be a must-see film. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project!

  • Woman of Tomorrow’ Takes Off With First Set Image

Supergirl is here! DC head James Gunn has teased the first look at Milly Alcock’s Woman of Tomorrow as filming begins at Warner Bros. Leavesden studio. This marks the DCU’s second film after David Corenswet’s Superman which will come out this July. While fans have been aching to see Alcock’s version of Kara Zor-El, fans would have to wait for the actual reveal.

Taking to Twitter, Gunn shared a new image of Alcock, from the back, from the set of Supergirl. The image doesn’t give away much, but it sees Alcock’s usual blond hair with a shade of red in it, wearing a hoodie on a chair that flaunts the Supergirl logo. The set seems to have a neon glow, with dominant red and blue colors – that’ll remind you a bit of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 color pallet. Gunn wrote that he iss “Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros”.

What Do We Know About ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’?

While plot details about Supergirl are kept tightly under wraps, we certainly know about the topline talent behind the scenes. Craig Gillespie will serve as the director after recently directing Dumb Money, the story of the GameStop stock fiasco. He directs from a script by Ana Nogueira. Further, Rob Hardy, best known for his work with Alex Garland on Annihilation, Ex Machina, and Civil War, will serve as the cinematographer.

Another major star joining Alcock is ex-Aquaman Jason Momoa, who will play Lobo. While Alcock has stayed tight lipped about her Supergirl stint Gunn previously described their version of Kara Zor-El as “Superman was sent to Earth, and, and he was raised by incredibly loving parents, whereas Kara was in Krypton, she was on a piece of Krypton that drifted away from the planet, and lived there for the first 14 years of her life among [a] horrible situation where she watched everybody around her die. So she’s a much harsher and more f—ked up Supergirl than we’ve been used to this far.”

Supergirl flies into theaters on June 26, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for more such updates and check out the first look at Supergirl above.

  • One Woman Nominated for Best Director

This year, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated one female director: Coralie Fargeat for The Substance.

The other nominees in the category are Sean Baker (Anora), James Mangold (A Complete Unknown), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez) and Brady Corbet (The Brutalist).

Payal Kapadia, who directed All We Imagine as Light, was omitted from the lineup on Thursday. Fargeat also received a best original screenplay nomination

The Academy has long been criticized for its lack of female director nominees. Previously, the Academy had only nominated a woman nine times (eight women have been nominated. Jane Campion received a nod twice) in the best director category (Fargeat is the ninth female nominee), and only three have won in the century long history of the  Academy Awards: Campion, Chloé Zhao and Kathryn Bigelow. Women nominated include Lina Wertmüller, Sofia Coppola, Greta Gerwig, Emerald Fennell and Justine Triet.

Last year, Triet was the only woman nominated for Anatomy of a Fall. The year before that, no female director received a nod, while two years ago, Campion won in the category. Zhao, who was nominated in 2021 alongside Fennell, won.

This year, Fargeat and Kapadia also received Golden Globe nominations, but the win ultimately went to Corbet. In the Globes’ history, only three women have won the award for best director. Barbra Streisand, Zhao and Campion are the only women who have won the award, while Bigelow, Ava DuVernay, Regina King, Fennell, Gerwig and Celine Song received nods.

In a historic moment at the upcoming awards show, one woman has been nominated for Best Director. This nomination marks a significant step forward in the industry, as women continue to break barriers and shatter glass ceilings in the world of filmmaking.

The nominated director’s work has been praised for its innovation, creativity, and unique storytelling. Her film has captured the hearts and minds of audiences around the world, earning critical acclaim and sparking important conversations about representation and diversity in the industry.

As we celebrate this momentous occasion, it serves as a reminder of the incredible talent and creativity that women bring to the world of cinema. It also highlights the importance of supporting and uplifting female voices in a traditionally male-dominated field.

Congratulations to the nominated director, and may her success inspire future generations of women filmmakers to continue pushing boundaries and telling their stories on the big screen. Let’s continue to champion diversity and inclusivity in film, and celebrate the incredible work of all talented filmmakers, regardless of gender.

  • Portland woman sues StubHub over fake Wicked tickets

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) – A Portland woman is part of a class action lawsuit against StubHub for selling fake tickets to the musical Wicked, which was on tour at the Keller Auditorium from Oct. to Nov. 2024.

According to the class action suit, Amy Hoffman said she bought two resale tickets on StubHub for over $400 back in Oct. of 2024 for when the Broadway production of Wicked came to Portland.

When she and her family got to the Keller to see the show she was told her tickets had already been scanned, and she was not the only one.

“There were so many people around me with the same story– we were expressing–yes this also happened to us,” said Hoffman.

She and her family ended up purchasing new tickets from the box office but missed the first act waiting in line to get those tickets.

A thief made off with dozens of vinyl records from a Tigard vintage store on Saturday morning, according to the shop owners.

Hoffman said the tickets included a “fan protection guarantee” promising, “valid tickets or money back.”

She contacted StubHub for a refund that same night, and since then she has been caught in, “phone and email tag” with StubHub and her credit card company, with no refund in sight.

“They asked me to wait 10 days until StubHub fixed the issue 10 days came and went StubHub never fixed the issue. I called DOJ they said StubHub is working on the issue. Discover said StubHub let them know they I am liable for the ticket,” said Hoffman. “That was months ago. I’m still in the same boat of nothing’s been compensated, nothing’s been resolved, when I reach out to them it’s just crickets I hear nothing.”

StubHub has not yet responded to our request for comment.

A Portland woman is taking legal action against StubHub after purchasing what turned out to be fake tickets to the hit Broadway show Wicked. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, had purchased the tickets for a special night out with her family, only to be turned away at the theater when the tickets were found to be invalid.

In her lawsuit, the woman alleges that StubHub failed to properly authenticate the tickets and did not provide adequate customer support when she tried to resolve the issue. She is seeking compensation for the cost of the tickets, as well as damages for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by the ordeal.

This case serves as a cautionary tale for anyone buying tickets online, as counterfeit tickets are a common problem in the secondary ticket market. It is important to only purchase tickets from reputable sources and to be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.

StubHub has not yet responded to the lawsuit, but the woman is hopeful that she will be able to recoup her losses and prevent others from falling victim to similar scams in the future.

  • Portland Woman Sues StubHub Over Failure to Refund Fake “Wicked” Tickets

Everyone deserves a chance to fly, and if the tickets that theater patrons bought to hear those lyrics in Wicked turn out to be bogus, at least they should get a swift refund.

So argues a class action lawsuit filed Monday in Multnomah County Circuit Court, in which a Portland woman says the ticket resale marketplace StubHub still hasn’t refunded her for two counterfeit tickets to see Wicked at the Keller Auditorium last October.

Fake tickets are a common risk on ticket resale websites. At issue in the case of Amy Hoffman, however, is StubHub’s FanProtection money-back guarantee.

On Oct. 27, the lawsuit says, Amy Hoffman spent $446.79 on two tickets to see Wicked when the touring Broadway production visited Portland. When her family arrived at the Keller Auditorium for the Oct. 30 performance, Hoffman was told her tickets had already been scanned by other guests. She joined a line with what she says were at least 20 other guests waiting to file fraud complaints.

“This poor little girl in a pink dress was just bawling her eyes out,” Hoffman says of a young theater patron she saw in the fraud line as they waited with their families. “It seemed like nobody noticed her because they were dealing with the scenario. It broke my heart that this was her eyes to the world and how horrible it can be sometimes, and this could be her dream at that age.”

Since she and other family members had never seen Wicked, Hoffman purchased new tickets from Keller’s box office after waiting in another line, ultimately missing part of the first act.

“My cousin asked, how often does this happen?’ and [Keller management] said every show,” Hoffman says. “It’s been a bit of a—I don’t want to say ‘shit show,’ but that’s my lack of a better word.”

In her lawsuit, Hoffman says the tickets included a FanProtection Guarantee promising “valid tickets or your money back.” But Hoffman alleges she received neither valid tickets from StubHub nor her money back. She reached out to StubHub on Oct. 30, the lawsuit says, and for several subsequent months, and while she was promised a refund initially, she was told to set up a new PayPal account since the card she used couldn’t be refunded. Hoffman alleges that StubHub has given conflicting information to her credit card company, which has not been able to reverse the charges from StubHub.

StubHub did not respond to WW’s request for comment.

After filing a consumer complaint with the Oregon Department of Justice, Hoffman found Portland lawyer Michael Fuller.

“We said, let’s wait a little while and see if they give you your refund, but it became pretty clear after several weeks that that just wasn’t going to happen,” Fuller says.

Fuller says he found several instances in other states where StubHub customers complained about similar failures in the company’s FanProtection Guarantee to protect them from fraud. California’s justice department, for example, ordered an investigation into StubHub’s refund policies from 2020 amid the pandemic, which resulted in a $20 million settlement for that state’s consumers. Fuller says he would like to see Portland and the state of Oregon do more to take on companies who leave customers hanging.

“I think there’s an increase in online fraud, banking fraud, fraud of every type involving technology,” Fuller says. “We see from every angle companies less and less willing to work with the customer, assuming one of the other companies will take care of it.”

Fuller noted that one crucial factor in the case will be whether Hoffman waived her right to take collective action against StubHub when making her purchase, a move that many tech companies now weave into their terms of service (Hoffman says she did not waive her right).

Wicked was the first show that Hoffman used StubHub for, and while she says that she will be far more cautious of online purchases going forward—and purchasing event tickets directly from venues—she’s advised her cousin to double-check the tickets she bought through StubHub before the Wicked fiasco for the upcoming Book of Mormon production this spring.

A Portland woman is taking legal action against StubHub after she purchased fake tickets to the hit Broadway musical “Wicked” and was denied a refund.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the tickets through StubHub for a performance of “Wicked” at the Keller Auditorium in Portland. However, when she arrived at the theater, she was informed that the tickets were counterfeit and she would not be allowed entry.

Despite contacting StubHub immediately and providing proof of the fake tickets, the woman was told that they could not issue a refund due to their policy on third-party sellers.

Frustrated and out of pocket, the woman has now filed a lawsuit against StubHub in hopes of recouping her losses and holding the company accountable for their failure to protect customers from fraudulent sellers.

This incident serves as a warning to always be cautious when purchasing tickets from third-party websites and to be aware of the risks involved. Consumers should always do their due diligence and research the seller before making a purchase to avoid falling victim to scams.
