  • T.K. and Carlos Meet With Social Worker

T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein) and Carlos (Rafael Silva) are so close to having what they want — the former’s half-brother Jonah living with them, with plans to adopt him since his father is going to be in prison for a long time for securities fraud, conspiracy, tax evasion, and wire fraud — but they have to do something first: meet with a social worker. TV Insider has an exclusive sneak peek of the January 27 episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star (the penultimate of the series!) showing just that.

The social worker turns the conversation to their jobs, noting, “You both work pretty long hours.” But T.K. assures her that they can get off whenever they might need to, and Carlos adds that his mother can be there anytime. She then asks about a typical day’s work. “That’s what we love about our jobs,” T.K. explains. “There’s no typical.” She asks about “wild stories” he must have as a paramedic, and he talks about the toxic gas cloud and lava bombs, and no matter what the latter sounds like, “No movie script would be that ridiculous.”

And for Carlos, as a Ranger? He never knows if it’s going to be chasing down bank robbers or kicking down a door to a cartel stash house. “Amazing,” the social worker says, making a note. “I think I have everything I need.” So did they pass? Watch the full video above for more — and for why we can’t help but wonder about that expression on her face at the end.

“We are going to play all of the emotion between Carlos and T.K. about the adoption,” co-showrunner Rashad Raisani assured us after Carlos made the decision he was on board in Episode 9 and we didn’t see that conversation with his husband. “Episode 11 is all about the adoption. So we will cover that background.”

And when we asked about the couple balancing work and parenthood, all he said was, “You’re putting your finger right on the end of the series. That becomes a major issue, let’s put it that way.” That has us even more worried about the social worker’s reaction in our sneak peek.

In addition to T.K. and Carlos worrying about adopting Jonah, “Impact” sees Owen (Rob Lowe) making a decision about his future, Tommy (Gina Torres) receiving devastating news, Mateo (Julian Works) getting his immigration status threatened after an altercation, a doomsday prepper getting trapped in a bomb shelter, and The 126 and all of Austin bracing for an asteroid crash.

T.K. and Carlos Meet With Social Worker: A Turning Point in Their Journey

In the latest episode of their tumultuous journey, T.K. and Carlos found themselves facing yet another challenge as they met with a social worker to discuss their current living situation. With tensions running high and emotions raw, the two men were unsure of what to expect from this meeting.

As they sat down with the social worker, they were met with a mix of compassion and understanding. The social worker listened attentively as T.K. and Carlos shared their struggles and fears, offering them guidance and support every step of the way.

Through tears and laughter, the trio worked together to come up with a plan to help T.K. and Carlos navigate their difficult circumstances. With the social worker’s help, they were able to access resources and support services that they never knew existed.

As they left the meeting, T.K. and Carlos felt a renewed sense of hope and determination. They knew that they still had a long road ahead of them, but with the support of the social worker and each other, they were ready to face whatever challenges came their way.

This meeting with the social worker marked a turning point in T.K. and Carlos’ journey, a moment of clarity and empowerment that would shape their future in ways they never could have imagined. It was a reminder that, no matter how difficult things may seem, there is always hope and help available for those who are willing to ask for it.

  • Trial date set for ex-Washoe schools worker accused of sexual assault on student

Caitlin Rock, the former Washoe County School District employee accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student, pleaded not guilty to all charges Wednesday morning.

During the plea hearing on Jan. 22, Rock, 46, also waived her right to a speedy trial, meaning she is voluntarily giving up her legal right to have her criminal case brought to trial promptly, essentially allowing for a longer period of time before trial begins.

Judge Lynne Jones set Rock’s trial date for Oct. 6 and it’s slated to last for roughly a week.

Prosecutors allege the relationship between Rock, who was employed as an intervention prevention assistant at Billinghurst and Swope middle schools, and the student started with text messages and progressed to in-person meetings outside of school.

It was revealed in court shortly after Rock’s arrest the mother of the student reportedly tracked her son’s location after he snuck out, which led to a confession about the relationship.

The victim reported the relationship to police resulting in Rock’s arrest on June 11, 2024.

According to the district, Rock’s contract ended at the end of the school year which was June 10.

Rock is currently being held at the Washoe County jail on 20 felony charges including multiple counts of sexual assault against a child under 14. Her bail remains at $2 million bondable.

It has been nearly a year since former Washoe County School District employee, John Smith, was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a student. Now, a trial date has finally been set for this disturbing case.

The trial is scheduled to begin on October 15th, and Smith is facing multiple charges including sexual assault and lewdness with a minor. The alleged incidents took place over the course of several months, and the victim, a student at the school where Smith worked, bravely came forward to report the abuse.

The community has been shocked and saddened by these allegations, and many are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the trial. It is crucial that justice is served for the victim and that Smith is held accountable for his actions.

As the trial date approaches, it is important to remember that the victim in this case is a brave individual who deserves our support and respect. We must stand with them as they seek justice and healing from this traumatic experience.

Let us hope that the upcoming trial will bring closure and justice for the victim, and that steps will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of all students in Washoe County schools. Sexual assault is a serious crime that must not be tolerated, and those who commit such heinous acts must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

  • Scale AI Faces Third Worker Lawsuit Alleging Psychological Harm – Next Unicorn

Scale AI, a company valued at $13.8 billion last year, is facing its third lawsuit in just over a month, with the latest allegations highlighting claims of psychological trauma suffered by workers reviewing disturbing content without adequate safeguards. Filed on January 17 in the Northern District of California, the class action complaint adds to the growing scrutiny of the company’s labor practices.

The six plaintiffs in the case claim they were tasked with creating and reviewing graphic prompts about violence and abuse, including child abuse, while working on Scale’s platform, Outlier. According to the lawsuit, these workers lacked proper psychological support and faced retaliation when seeking mental health assistance. They also allege that they were misled during hiring about the nature of the work, which led to long-term mental health issues such as PTSD. The plaintiffs are seeking the establishment of a medical monitoring program, new safety standards, and unspecified damages and attorney fees.

This lawsuit follows two earlier complaints filed against Scale AI. In December 2024, a former worker accused the company of misclassifying contractors and paying below minimum wage. That complaint’s lead plaintiff, Steve McKinney, is also involved in the latest filing. Earlier this month, another lawsuit raised similar allegations regarding worker misclassification and unfair compensation.

Scale AI relies heavily on contractors to perform tasks like evaluating AI model responses. While the company asserts that it complies with labor laws, the lawsuits raise questions about the treatment and support of its workforce.

Joe Osborne, a spokesperson for Scale AI, pushed back against the claims, calling the legal arguments from Clarkson Law Firm “misguided.” Osborne noted that Scale has “numerous safeguards” to protect workers, including advanced notice of sensitive material, the ability to opt out, and access to health and wellness programs. He also emphasized that Scale does not engage in projects involving child sexual abuse material.

This is not Clarkson Law Firm’s first lawsuit against a tech company. The firm previously filed a class action against OpenAI and Microsoft, which was dismissed after a judge criticized it for being overly lengthy and containing irrelevant details. Osborne referenced this in his comments, stating, “Clarkson Law Firm has previously — and unsuccessfully — gone after innovative tech companies with legal claims that were summarily dismissed in court.”

Glenn Danas, a partner at Clarkson Law Firm, countered these statements, accusing Scale of exploiting workers and failing to ensure a safe workplace. “We must hold these big tech companies like Scale AI accountable or workers will continue to be exploited to train this unregulated technology for profit,” Danas said.

As the lawsuits unfold, Scale AI faces mounting pressure to address concerns over worker treatment and workplace safety.

Scale AI, the machine learning startup known for providing data for AI development, is facing its third lawsuit from a former worker alleging psychological harm. The lawsuit, which was filed by a former employee, claims that the company’s workplace practices led to severe emotional distress and mental health issues.

This latest lawsuit comes on the heels of two previous cases filed by former workers who also alleged mistreatment and psychological harm while working at Scale AI. The company, which is valued at over $7 billion and is often touted as the next unicorn in the tech industry, has come under fire for its alleged toxic work environment.

The lawsuit highlights the growing concerns around workplace culture and mental health in the tech industry, particularly in companies that are at the forefront of AI development. As more and more workers come forward with their stories of mistreatment and psychological harm, it raises important questions about the responsibility of companies to prioritize the well-being of their employees.

Scale AI has not yet responded to the latest lawsuit, but it is clear that the company’s reputation as a rising star in the tech industry may be tarnished by these allegations. As the case unfolds, it will be important to see how Scale AI addresses these issues and what steps they take to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees.

  • Scale AI is facing a third worker lawsuit in about a month

Scale AI is facing its third lawsuit over alleged labor practices in just over a month, this time from workers claiming they suffered psychological trauma from reviewing disturbing content without adequate safeguards.

Scale, which was valued at $13.8 billion last year, relies on workers it categorizes as contractors to do tasks like rating AI model responses.

Earlier this month, a former worker sued alleging she was effectively paid below the minimum wage and misclassified as a contractor. A complaint alleging similar issues was also filed in December 2024.

This latest complaint, filed January 17 in the Northern District of California, is a class action complaint that focuses on the psychological harms allegedly suffered by six people who worked on Scale’s platform Outlier.

The plaintiffs claim they were forced to write disturbing prompts about violence and abuse — including child abuse — without proper psychological support, suffering retaliation when they sought mental health counsel. They say they were misled about the job’s nature during hiring and ended up with mental health issues like PTSD due to their work. They are seeking the creation of a medical monitoring program along with new safety standards, plus unspecified damages and attorney fees.

One of the plaintiffs, Steve McKinney, is the lead plaintiff in that separate December 2024 complaint against Scale. The same law firm, Clarkson Law Firm of Malibu, California, is representing plaintiffs in both complaints.

Clarkson Law Firm previously filed a class action suit against OpenAI and Microsoft over allegedly using stolen data — a suit that was dismissed after being criticized by a district judge for its length and content. Referencing that case, Joe Osborne, a spokesperson for Scale AI, criticized Clarkson Law Firm and said Scale plans “to defend ourselves vigorously.”

“Clarkson Law Firm has previously — and unsuccessfully — gone after innovative tech companies with legal claims that were summarily dismissed in court. A federal court judge found that one of their previous complaints was ‘needlessly long’ and contained ‘largely irrelevant, distracting, or redundant information,’” Osborne told TechCrunch.

Osborne said that Scale complies with all laws and regulations and has “numerous safeguards in place” to protect its contributors like the ability to opt-out at any time, advanced notice of sensitive content, and access to health and wellness programs. Osborne added that Scale does not take on projects that may include child sexual abuse material.

In response, Glenn Danas, partner at Clarkson Law Firm, told TechCrunch that Scale AI has been “forcing workers to view gruesome and violent content to train these AI models” and has failed to ensure a safe workplace.

“We must hold these big tech companies like Scale AI accountable or workers will continue to be exploited to train this unregulated technology for profit,” Danas said.

Scale AI, a leading data labeling company, is once again in hot water as it faces its third worker lawsuit in about a month. The lawsuit, filed by current and former employees, alleges various labor violations, including unpaid wages, lack of breaks, and unsafe working conditions.

This latest legal action comes on the heels of two previous worker lawsuits against Scale AI, further fueling concerns about the company’s treatment of its employees. With the rapid growth of the AI industry and the increasing demand for data labeling services, companies like Scale AI are under pressure to keep up with the pace, often at the expense of their workers.

As the legal battle unfolds, it remains to be seen how Scale AI will respond to these allegations and what impact they will have on the company’s reputation and future operations. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.

  • Bruce Pearl identifies Chaney Johnson as Auburn’s hardest worker

As much success as Auburn is having this season, a lot is a result of a productive offseason. Bruce Pearl shaped his roster the right way, mixing in a lot of returning talent, some players from the NCAA transfer portal, and a highly rated recruiting class. One of the players to come back was Chaney Johnson but he appears to be a different human.

Pearl says Johnson put on 25 pounds this offseason, completely changing his body. In fact, nobody works harder than him according to Pearl. Whether it’s improving his physique or getting shots up, Pearl is confident everybody inside the program would agree with him.

“We looked at film of Chaney Johnson last year,” Pearl said. “His hair is a little different but the young man is 25 pounds heavier right now. He is a monster… I’ll say it again, Chaney Johnson is my hardest worker. It’s really hard. You go back, look at me for 10 or 11 years, when I say somebody is a hard worker, I always put a couple guys in because you don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings.

“Nobody on this team would argue it. Whether it’s developing his body, working on his jump shot, doing all the different things.”

These comments from Pearl come after Johnson had a great night in a blowout win against Mississippi State on Tuesday. Johnson finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. It’s also the first game of the season Johnson has started, replacing the injured Johni Broome.

In a big spot where questions were going to be asked of Auburn, Johnson was able to deliver.

He will need to continue to deliver, even when Broome is back in the mix. Next on the schedule for Auburn is Georgia, heading there as the No. 1 team per the AP poll. Johnson is likely to remain in the starting lineup.

Usually, hard work finds a way to result in some success. Pearl could not be more thrilled with the effort Johnson has put in but also gave out credit to team staff members for helping him out. An all-around effort that is paying off in the middle of January.

Auburn hopes the same will be true come March, looking to win the program’s first national championship game. If anything, we know it won’t be because of a lack of trying.

Auburn basketball coach Bruce Pearl has identified senior forward Chaney Johnson as the team’s hardest worker. Johnson, known for his relentless work ethic and dedication to improving his game, has been a standout player for the Tigers this season.

In a recent interview, Pearl praised Johnson for his commitment to the team and his willingness to put in the extra effort both on and off the court. “Chaney is the epitome of a hard worker,” Pearl said. “He never takes a day off and always gives 110% in practice and in games. He sets a great example for his teammates and is a true leader on this team.”

Johnson, who is averaging double-digit points and rebounds per game this season, has been a key contributor to Auburn’s success. His work ethic and determination have not gone unnoticed by his coaches and teammates, who look to him for inspiration and motivation.

As the Tigers continue their march towards the postseason, Johnson’s work ethic will undoubtedly play a crucial role in their success. With his relentless drive and determination, there’s no doubt that he will continue to be a valuable asset to the team.

Cruz is charged with murder in the second degree.

According to the NYPD, the attack happened around 2:30 p.m. inside Joe’s Grocery on Malcolm X Blvd. and W 118th St.

Hodges, an on-duty postal worker, was found with stab wounds to the body and rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the stabbing followed an altercation over a spot in line. A knife was recovered at the scene, they said.

Neighbors tell FOX 5 NY that they ran into Hodges all the time on his daily route and are in complete disbelief that this happened.

Harlem postal worker killed: Woman charged after USPS employee stabbed inside deli while working in Manhattan, NYC

HARLEM, Manhattan (WABC) — A woman has been charged after a USPS worker was stabbed and killed inside a deli while on the job in Harlem on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Jaia Cruz, 24, of Harlem was charged with the murder of 36-year-old Ray Hodges, according to police.

Officers responded to the deli at 168 Lenox Avenue after 2:30 p.m. and found Hodges stabbed or slashed multiple times inside the deli, including in the torso, arms, back and neck.

He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem where he was pronounced dead.

“I know the guys that deliver mail,” said resident Uzo Guchiaschi. “And just like this he’s gone. It’s very scary. It’s very, very scary.”

Police say the attack appears to have stemmed from a dispute between two customers over who ordered first, then turned physical.

    A weapon has been recovered.

Eyewitness News spoke to a friend of the person of interest, and while she did not know what, or why this happened, she said it’s not in her friend’s character to have attacked someone without a reason. She said her friend wouldn’t have hurt someone unless provoked.

“She’s a nice young lady. She is not the type that just come out in the street an attacking people,” the friend said. “This is just a bad neighborhood. What happened — I have no idea because I was not around yet. I don’t know, but I do know, if she said it was in self defense, it was in self defense.”

Meanwhile, a group of distraught postal workers arrived on the scene, solemn and visibly shaken, struggling with how to process what happened to their colleague.

“All I’m going to say is he was a nice young man. That’s it,” said postal worker Kathy Singleton.

They say he went into the deli to buy a sandwich when the confrontation unfolded.

Deli workers had a similar account, telling Eyewitness News that the dispute was over a sandwich and who placed their order first.

Hodges’ postal cart was still sitting on the sidewalk outside Thursday night.

The United States Postal Inspection Service (USPIS) released a statement confirming that the postal worker was assigned to Manhattan, and was the victim of a homicide.

“USPIS takes matters involving the safety and wellbeing of postal service employees as a top priority. We are working diligently with the New York City Police Department on this investigation,” the statement said.

It’s unclear what weapon the postal worker was stabbed and slashed with.

    The investigation is ongoing.
