  • Star high school wrestler Bo Bassett will make college choice Tuesday night; Penn State among final 4

Pennsylvania’s most sought-after wrestling recruit since Spencer Lee in 2016 will make his college choice on Tuesday night.

Bishop McCort star wrestler Bo Bassett will announce his selection from among Penn State, Oklahoma State, Iowa and Virginia Tech after the Crushers face either Corry or McGuffey in the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships at the Johnstown-based school.

The Corry-McGuffey match begins at 5 p.m. and that winner faces McCort at 7. Bassett’s announcement will be streamed live on Flowrestling. There is no official starting time but the 8:30-9 p.m. range is likely safe.

Bassett said Monday morning on Flo Radio Live that this is a huge week for him, with his college choice and the likelihood that McCort, ranked No. 2 nationally, will face No. 1-ranked Faith Christian in the PIAA team finals at Altoona Area High School on Saturday.

Bassett, who is 109-0 in his career, is a junior who won a PIAA individual crown last season as a sophomore. McCort was not eligible for PIAA events during Bassett’s freshman season. He’ll be a heavy favorite to win three PIAA titles prior to entering the college ranks. Bassett, who turned 18 in January, will be 19 years and nine months old when he enters college during the fall of 2026.

“The recruiting process has been incredible,” Bassett said on the live Flo show. “I’ve loved every second of it. It’s been more challenging than I thought it would ever be, but it was fun. It was something I’ve worked for my whole life.

“As far as the season, I’ve got a lot of big things coming up, and I want to focus more on training right and kind of be set in stone with where I’m going to go all in on that place, and then go all in on my training as well, rather than having to balance them all.”

Bassett ruled out Rutgers, Michigan and Ohio State with his final four announcement on Monday. He took visits to each of the seven schools and he and his family were in attendance for the Penn State-Iowa match, the Penn State-Rutgers match and a recent Oklahoma State match, among many others.

Bassett has competed at a few lineup spots depending on McCort’s needs during a particular match, but he projects at 149 in college, and perhaps a weight higher.

His view on NIL money was interesting, with him saying that he knows wrestling will never compare to college football in terms of financial offers, but that the offers from his four finalists were similar.

“Obviously, NIL is a piece of it. But I’m more focused on the wrestling,” Bassett said. “I want to achieve all my goals and do this and that, but I can tell you that all the offers have been very comparable. I’m just excited to again get this out there and start working.”

Star high school wrestler Bo Bassett, a standout athlete from Western Pennsylvania, has announced that he will be making his college decision on Tuesday night. The highly sought-after recruit has narrowed down his choices to four schools, with Penn State being among the finalists.

Bassett, who is a two-time state champion and nationally ranked wrestler, is considered one of the top prospects in the country. His decision has generated a lot of buzz within the wrestling community, as many are eager to see where the talented athlete will choose to continue his athletic and academic career.

Penn State, known for its powerhouse wrestling program and track record of producing top-tier athletes, is seen as a strong contender for Bassett’s commitment. However, the other three schools in the running have also made compelling cases for why he should choose them.

Fans and recruiters alike will be tuning in on Tuesday night to see where Bo Bassett will ultimately decide to take his talents. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting announcement!

  • Zayda Steel Says She’s a ‘TV Wrestler Trapped in the Indies’

    – During a recent interview with Casual Conversations, wrestler Zayda Steel spoke about how she’s modeling her career after The Miz and how she feels like a TV wrestler who is trapped in the indies. Below are some highlights (via Fightful):

Zayda Steel on being a “TV wrestler” trapped in the indies: “I literally am a TV wrestler trapped on the indies. I always, that’s how I feel. I don’t do much. Sometimes, like, my match with Marcus, for example, we had like, a super indie style, like PWG-esque match, but that was more so because I wanted to do something different. I wanted to adapt to his style with like the Poison Ranas and all that. But, yeah, I don’t do much. I don’t need to do much. I don’t want to get hurt on the indies, one. Two, you brought up The Miz, which is a perfect example of someone that, in the ring, really does not do a lot, but yet, he has his own talk show, which I would love my own talk show. The reality show he has. So there’s a reason why The Miz, his career is, I feel like, what I’ve tried to base my career off of.”

On her personal approach: “Again, being on the indies, I’m not trying to tear anybody else down, because at the end of the day, do you. If you want to do your crazy 450s and all that, have at it. I’ve seen people get injured just doing the basics. So hey, there’s no right or wrong way. Me personally, I just like the promos, the character aspects, the hokiness, sometimes, of my wrestling. So why would I try to be a technical wrestler when that’s not even what I like?”

Zayda Steel, a rising star in the world of independent wrestling, recently made a bold statement in an interview with Wrestling News World. The 27-year-old powerhouse declared that she feels like a “TV wrestler trapped in the indies” and is eager to break out onto the national stage.

With her impressive in-ring skills, charismatic personality, and undeniable star power, Zayda Steel has caught the attention of fans and promoters alike. However, despite her numerous accolades and championship victories on the independent circuit, she still feels like she is being held back from reaching her full potential.

“I know I have what it takes to compete on a larger platform like television, but it feels like I’m stuck in this never-ending cycle of indie shows and small-time promotions,” Zayda Steel lamented. “I’m ready to show the world what I’m capable of and prove that I belong in the spotlight.”

Despite the challenges she faces, Zayda Steel remains determined to make a name for herself in the wrestling industry. With her sights set on breaking into mainstream promotions and competing on national television, it’s only a matter of time before this fierce competitor achieves her dreams.

Fans can catch Zayda Steel in action at upcoming independent wrestling events, where she continues to showcase her talent and prove why she is a force to be reckoned with in the ring. Stay tuned for more updates on this rising star as she continues to chase her ultimate goal of becoming a household name in the world of professional wrestling.

  • Jordynne Grace Says Being a Wrestler Was Always Her Goal

    – During a recent interview with Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Jordynne Grace spoke about, if getting to WWE was always her end goal, her hardest-hitting opponents, and more. Below are some highlights provided to us by Insight:

Jordynne Grace on her opponents who have hit her the hardest: “Masha [Slamovich] has knocked me out before. Legit she’s hit me with a back fist and she’s knocked me out. So definitely her. Something else about Masha is for the longest time, thank God that she finally listened to me, she didn’t wear kick pads. I don’t know if you’ve seen her wrestle, she throws kicks constantly. So anytime she would kick me, it wouldn’t make a great sound, because when you kick someone in real life it doesn’t really make a sound but it hurts so bad. So in wrestling, you want the strikes to make a sound, and it’s okay if they’re stiff, but you don’t want them to hurt. So every time that bony front of her leg would hit me in the chest or hit me in the face it’d be so painful, and people didn’t know how painful it was because there was no sound.”

On leaving TNA: “I’ve been at TNA for a very long time, since 2018, and I’ve never let my contract expire before. I’ve always just re-signed. I don’t know if it was just the uncertainty of not knowing what was going to happen next, or I was just scared that no one was going to want me. But I feel like now I’m more confident. I had an amazing 2024 and I think it’s time. I’ve done so much in TNA. I’ve done pretty much all there is to do and I feel like if there was ever a time to move forward, it’ll be right now.”

On if going to WWE was always the goal: “It was just to be a wrestler in general. I just wanted to wrestle when I was a kid, but I also wanted to be a Diva. That’s the era I was watching. So I wanted to be like one of the models. I wanted to be like one of the model wrestlers. I think since then, obviously things have changed so much. I started watching TNA I want to say a few years before I actually started wrestling and the variation in WWE and TNA at the time was huge, obviously. I saw women like Awesome Kong and I was like dang, maybe I could be like that.”

As previously reported, Jordynne Grace has signed a multi-year contract with WWE.

Jordynne Grace Says Being a Wrestler Was Always Her Goal

Professional wrestler Jordynne Grace recently opened up about her passion for wrestling, revealing that it has always been her goal to become a wrestler.

In a recent interview, Grace shared, “Since I was a little girl, I’ve always been drawn to wrestling. It was always my dream to step into the ring and compete against the best in the world. I worked hard, trained tirelessly, and never gave up on my goal.”

Grace, known for her powerhouse style and impressive athleticism, has made a name for herself in the world of wrestling. She has competed in various promotions and has faced off against some of the top wrestlers in the industry.

“I am living my dream every time I step into the ring,” Grace said. “Being a wrestler is not just a job for me, it’s a passion. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given and will continue to work hard to achieve even greater success.”

Fans of Grace can look forward to seeing her continue to make waves in the wrestling world and inspire others to pursue their dreams, just like she did.

  • How Jharrel Jerome Got ‘Most in Shape Ever’ to Play Wrestler in Unstoppable (Exclusive)

Unstoppable required Jharrel Jerome to put in a lot of work to become wrestling champ Anthony Robles. Much of it is right there on the screen, from wrestling to lifting to weighted runs — often on crutches, as Robles was born without a right leg.

“I am the most in shape I’ve ever been in my life,” the actor, 27, tells PEOPLE. Grimacing, remembering his grueling training regimen, he adds wryly, “so it’s great.”

Unstoppable tells the incredible story of Arizona State University alum Robles, now 36, becoming a 2011 NCAA champion after launching a wrestling career in high school. Jennifer Lopez, Bobby Cannavale and Don Cheadle play real-life figures in Robles’ life.

To recreate his matches in the ring, Jerome and Robles himself (a stunt double and consultant on the film, producing alongside Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) followed choreographed moves in exacting detail. That meant not only training to match Robles’ athleticism, but also brushing up on knowledge of the sport, explains Jerome.

“The WWE was about all I knew when it came to wrestling,” the When They See Us Emmy winner admits.

As Unstoppable lingered in development and then was interrupted by 2023’s writers’ and actors’ strikes, Jerome endured months of bootcamp: “Nine to 5, five days a week,” he recalls. “At the last day of our bootcamp, we went right into day one of shooting, which was pretty crazy.”

Of course, he “couldn’t slip” when cameras began rolling. “I skipped all my lunch breaks” to work out, he says. “I packed meals and put them in microwaves throughout the set and was eating in between takes. Because everybody went to lunch and I went into whatever facility they had nearby, whether we were on the campus of some college or in a warehouse where they brought in weights and a mat for me to do a body workout.”

While Jerome says it’s difficult to pick the biggest challenge in “transforming and turning into that beast,” as he jokingly calls Robles, the calluses under his armpits from constant use of crutches ranks high on the list.

“I practiced how to move around on the crutches so I can not look like I had just sprained my ankle two weeks ago,” says the actor, who wore a green sock that erased one leg via special effects.

It was all worth it for his connection to Robles, who invited cast and crew members into his Arizona home throughout filming. “I consider him a brother,” Jerome says. “It’s really become beyond the work for us.”

Plus he’s now never lacking inspiration to continue to stay in shape. “It’s 8 o’clock in the morning and I don’t want to wake up, but I’m up in the gym at 8:30 and that’s just because I know Anthony would be,” says Jerome. “You can’t see somebody do 80 pull-ups with a weighted vest the way Anthony does and not use that as motivation.”

Unstoppable is now streaming on Prime Video.

Jharrel Jerome is making waves in Hollywood once again, this time for his incredible physical transformation to play a wrestler in the upcoming film Unstoppable. The Emmy-winning actor recently sat down with us for an exclusive interview to discuss how he got in the best shape of his life for the role.

Jerome revealed that he dedicated himself to a rigorous workout routine and strict diet plan to prepare for the physically demanding role. He spent hours in the gym every day, focusing on strength training and cardio to build the muscle and endurance needed to convincingly portray a wrestler on screen.

In addition to his workouts, Jerome also worked closely with a nutritionist to ensure he was fueling his body with the right foods to support his intense training regimen. He cut out processed foods and sugar, opting instead for lean proteins, complex carbohydrates, and plenty of fruits and vegetables.

The hard work paid off, as Jerome revealed that he feels the strongest and most confident he has ever felt in his life. His dedication to the role is evident in the trailer for Unstoppable, where he can be seen performing impressive wrestling moves with ease.

Fans of Jerome and wrestling enthusiasts alike are eagerly anticipating the release of Unstoppable, where they will get to see the actor’s incredible transformation on full display. If his dedication to this role is any indication, Jharrel Jerome is truly unstoppable in his pursuit of excellence in his craft.

  • Bully Ray Says New WWE Star Penta Reminds Him Of This WCW Wrestler

It’s safe to say that Penta’s WWE debut has been received well. The former AEW World Tag Team Champion defeated Chad Gable on the January 13 “WWE Raw,” and has been heavily praised in the days that followed. Penta’s look is one that has also been praised by those that haven’t seen him before, as well as those who have been in the business for a long time, with WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray explaining on “Busted Open Radio” that Penta reminds him of someone who was not only a superstar in Mexico, but became a fan favorite in WCW.

“Not only was La Parka a big deal in Mexico, La Parka became a big deal in the States too,” Bully said. “La Parka’s gimmick was able to get over in WCW, go back and watch some La Parka stuff, that some b***h was getting some pops back in the day, so that’s who Penta reminds me of.” Bully stated that Penta is a combination of La Parka and Rey Mysterio, as WWE have been looking for Mysterio’s successor for many years, believing that they have found that successor in Penta, who just so happens have a build and personality similar to La Parka as he is much bigger (in stature) than Mysterio.

“Can Penta do the Rey stuff? Yes he can, he’s a bigger dude, but he’s also as entertaining as La Parka was in my opinion. This whole thing is going to get over.” There were some rumors that Penta had attracted some heat for his match and promo running long, leading to some things being cut from the show. However, those rumors were disproved, as those in WWE were happy with how his debut went.

Bully Ray Says New WWE Star Penta Reminds Him Of This WCW Wrestler

Former WWE and TNA superstar Bully Ray recently shared his thoughts on the new WWE star Penta, and he couldn’t help but draw comparisons to a WCW wrestler from the past.

In a recent interview, Bully Ray mentioned that Penta’s in-ring style and presence reminded him of none other than the late great Chris Benoit. He praised Penta’s intensity, technical prowess, and ability to tell a story in the ring, much like Benoit did during his time in WCW.

Bully Ray’s comparison is high praise for Penta, as Chris Benoit was known for his incredible in-ring work and dedication to his craft. It’s clear that Penta has caught the eye of one of wrestling’s veterans, and fans can only hope to see him reach the same heights as Benoit did in his career.

With this comparison in mind, it will be interesting to see how Penta continues to develop and make a name for himself in WWE. If he can live up to the legacy of Chris Benoit, he could very well become a top star in the company for years to come.
