Bears adding Antwaan Randle El as assistant HC, WRs coach
New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson is busy filling out his coaching staff, which will be just as important as the organization landing Johnson to lead the charge.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears are finalizing a deal to make former Detroit Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El their new assistant head coach and receivers coach, which is a big get for Chicago.
After initial reports that the Bears were going to land Hank Fraley as their offensive coordinator, the Lions offensive line coach is staying in Detroit. But Johnson still managed to snag a Lions assistant coach and bring him to Chicago.
Randle El, who grew up in the Chicagoland area, played nine years as a wide receiver in the NFL, including most notably with the Pittsburgh Steelers (where he won a Super Bowl). He got his start in the coaching ranks as an offensive assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2019-20). Randle El then joined Dan Campbell’s coaching staff as Lions receivers coach (2021-24).
During the last four seasons, Randle El has worked with the likes of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, Tim Patrick and Kalif Raymond. Now, Randle El will get to work with a pair of studs in DJ Moore and Rome Odunze.
This will mark the second hire for Johnson after the Bears have agreed to terms with Al Harris for their pass game coordinator, according to DallasCowboys.com.

Randle El brings a wealth of experience to the team, having played 9 seasons in the league and winning a Super Bowl with the Pittsburgh Steelers. His knowledge of the game and his ability to develop young receivers will be a huge asset to the Bears as they look to improve their passing game and take their offense to the next level. Head coach Matt Nagy is excited to have Randle El on board, stating that he is a perfect fit for the team and will bring a new perspective to the coaching staff.
With Randle El’s addition, the Bears are hoping to see a significant improvement in their wide receiver play and overall offensive production. Fans are eager to see what impact he will have on the team and are looking forward to a successful season ahead.

SIP Ep. 146 | Oklahoma WR’s status report + Jim Knowles’ OU DC job comments
As the college football season officially comes to an end with Monday night’s National Championship Game, the Sooners Illustrated Podcast is back with a brand new episode to discuss the latest happenings with Oklahoma.Â
Sooners Illustrated’s Josh Callaway, James D. Jackson and Tom Green open the show by continuing their position status report series by shifting over to the wide receiver room followed by a lost year plagued by injuries.Â
“If you just showed me on paper, before last season, Oklahoma’s receiver room compared to what it is now – I would give the edge to last season’s group,” Green said. “But, of course, last season happened. All the injuries, the lack of production from the position as a whole and the offense at large…If they can get (Deion Burks and Jayden Gibson) back to what they expect them to be, I think the floor on this group certainly raises and probably the ceiling, too.”
“I’m to the point where I feel exactly how I felt two years ago about the receiver room,” Jackson said. “It’s just unproven right now. We don’t really know what these guys are going to do…It’s going to be one of those groups you’re going to really have to pay attention to which is the complete opposite from how I felt last year going into the season.”
The staff then shift into the latest with Ohio State defensive coordinator Jim Knowles after his comments regarding the OU opening made over the weekend.Â
“It was basically a total non-denial,” Callaway said. “He could have shot it down and he didn’t…I’m assuming that a resolution is going to come through very soon here. The championship game is finally tonight. If Oklahoma thinks they have a shot at Jim Knowles, which I personally believe that they at least think that they do, we should know who the next defensive coordinator is very quickly after this game.”
The guys then wrap up the show by reacting to Curtis Lofton stepping down as Oklahoma’s general manager and recapping the latest action for OU men’s and women’s basketball.Â
