TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired forward Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Lucas Edmonds, vice president and general manager Julien BriseBois announced today.
Korczak, 22, has played in 35 games with the American Hockey League’s Hartford Wolf Pack this season, recording three goals and 11 points with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. The 5-foot-11, 172-pound forward has skated in 107 career AHL contests, all with Hartford, registering 12 goals and 31 points with three power-play goals and 42 penalty minutes. He made his Calder Cup Playoffs debut last season with the Wolf Pack, collecting one goal and two points in 10 postseason contests.
A native of Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Korczak was originally drafted by the Rangers, 75th overall, in the third round of the 2021 NHL Draft.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have made a bold move to bolster their forward depth by acquiring Ryder Korczak from the New York Rangers. Korczak, a highly skilled and versatile forward, is expected to bring a jolt of energy and scoring prowess to the Lightning lineup.
General Manager Julien BriseBois expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating, “We believe Ryder Korczak is a dynamic player who will fit in seamlessly with our team and contribute to our success on the ice. We are thrilled to have him join the Lightning family.”
Korczak, a former first-round pick of the Rangers, has shown great promise in his young career and is poised to make a significant impact for the Lightning. Fans can look forward to seeing him in action as he dons the blue and white of Tampa Bay.
Stay tuned for more updates as Korczak settles in with his new team and makes his mark in the Lightning lineup. #GoBolts #WelcomeRyder

The earthquake was centered near Paramus, New Jersey.
Quakes aren’t common in the New York City area.
Another one shook the region in April.
People in New York and New Jersey reported feeling shaking from a small earthquake Friday.
“I thought it was a large truck passing by, but then my neighbors started texting each other, sharing reports via Ring cameras and Bergen County Facebook groups,” weather.com staffer and Bergen County, New Jersey resident Carmen Molina said.
Molina lives about 20 minutes from where the earthquake was centered near Paramus, New Jersey.
The U.S. Geological Survey gave the quake an initial rating of 2.4 magnitude. It happened just after 1 p.m.
Paramus is about 17 miles north of New York City.
“Quakes are not common in this area, but they do happen and can be quite strong,” weather.com meteorologist and natural disasters expert Orelon Sidney said. “April 2024 saw a quake that was felt in NYC of 4.8.”
Sidney added: “Parts of the Northeast were once covered by glaciers and some thinking is that the ground is rebounding from the weight of those now-melted ice sheets. It’s the glacial rebound theory.”
There were no reports of damage in Friday’s quake.
Some residents also said they felt or heard rattling.
“Did anyone just hear a loud boom that shook their entire house?” one asked on The Bergen County Mom facebook page.
Multiple others replied they felt it, too, in New Jersey communities like Rochelle Park, New Milford and Westwood.
Weather.com reporter Jan Childs covers breaking news and features related to weather, space, climate change, the environment and everything in between.
Today, residents of New Jersey and New York were shaken by a powerful earthquake that was felt across the region. The earthquake, which struck in the early morning hours, left many startled and on edge.
Reports indicate that the earthquake measured a magnitude of 4.5, causing buildings to sway and residents to flee their homes in panic. While there have been no reports of major damage or injuries, many are left wondering if this is a sign of more seismic activity to come.
Experts are urging residents to remain vigilant and prepared for potential aftershocks in the coming days. It is always important to have an emergency plan in place in case of natural disasters like earthquakes.
As the ground continues to rumble beneath our feet, we must remember to stay calm, stay informed, and look out for one another in times of crisis. Let’s hope that this earthquake was just a minor event and that everyone remains safe and secure in its aftermath.

Welcome to a new featured series of NHL rumors on StadiumRant.com! We will cover the latest rumors around the league, according to sources. With just 44 days until the NHL trade deadline, teams are evaluating their trade options to improve their success. Let’s take a look at the latest NHL rumors.
NHL rumors in this edition include:
What might be the six trade destinations for unrestricted free agent Mikko Rantanen? Two teams who may pursue Brock Boeser. Who could be looking to add Brock Nelson to their roster?
Colorado Avalanche – Mikko Rantanen
Rumor Per – Joe Yerdon – bleacherreport.com. Rantanen is an elite scorer and a premier power play threat, but can the Avs keep him?
Yerdon lists six possibilities for Rantanen’s services.
Chicago Blackhawks – Adding Rantanen to Conor Bedard’s wing would give the Hawks the offensive weapons they need to advance. Bedard can’t do it himself, and Rantanen can undoubtedly help. The Chicago club can handle Rantanen’s salary demands, even if they total $14 million. They will need to consider Bedard’s future salary requirements, which are not immediate.
Anaheim Ducks—The Ducks haven’t progressed to the level general manager (GM) Pat Vermeek may have expected. With all the young talent, a guy like Rantanen can dominate offensively and boost the Anaheim power play. The team has a lot of cap space to tempt Rantanen to the West Coast.
New York Islanders – The Isles could use Rantanen’s scoring prowess. They are getting older and slower. They are ranked 27th in goals scored per game. With Rantanen, that would change significantly.
Buffalo Sabres—The Sabres are dead last in the wild-card race but have won five of their last ten. They have numerous needs, especially on the power play, ranking 26th. Rantanen has eight power-play goals and 11 assists.
San Jose Sharks—Wouldn’t Macklin Celebrini love to have a top winger like Rantanen to help him excel in his game? The Sharks have the prospects to assist in making a deal.
Boston Bruins—Can you imagine having David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, and Rantanen on the offensive attack? Boston is fighting it out with Ottawa, Montreal, and Tampa Bay. Rantanen could help them in the postseason.
Vancouver Canucks – Brock Boeser
Rumor Per – Rachel Doerrie – espn.com. Two one-for-one deals for Boeser are intriguing if he doesn’t re-sign with Vancouver.
Boeser to NY Rangers for defenseman K’Andre Miller – Miller has size at 6′-5″ and can move the puck well. He even kills penalties and blocks shots. Head coach Rick Tocchet’s kind of player.
Boeser to Buffalo Sabres for defenseman Bowen Byram – Per Doerrie, the Canucks have had interest in Byram for a while now. He’s improved his appeal this season with some strong play, increasing his average ice time to 23:20 per night—an increase of three full minutes a game from last year.
Boeser’s salary demands are in the $8 million range, and the Canucks may renege on paying him that much. He did tally 40 goals and 73 points last season but is way off this year, with only 15 goals in 38 games. With all the trade NHL rumors surrounding J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, the Canucks have some issues to resolve before thinking of what to do with Boeser.
NHL
It’s in the Canucks’ interests to either sign or trade Boeser before he becomes a free agent this summer. It’s a tough decision for the president of hockey operations, Jim Rutherford, and GM Patrik Allvin. It could decide the fate of the team.
They are 26th in the NHL in goals per game. They definitely need a boost at the center spot, but their tight-cap situation makes it unlikely they can pull it off. We’ll see.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Canes certainly won’t shy away from trying to land the most prominent names they can at the trade deadline. They did it last year by acquiring Jake Guentzel, and they’re already in talks for J.T. Miller from the Vancouver Canucks. If that doesn’t come through, Nelson could be part of a Plan B.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild have been said to be in the market for another scorer and, as Seravalli notes, a “higher-end center that they could confidently re-sign.” And Nelson is from Minnesota to boot. They always want to go back home.
New Jersey Devils
They’re looking for a center at the trade deadline, though Seravalli wonders if Nelson and his $6 million cap hit might be above their price point.
Winnipeg Jets
By acquiring Sean Monahan, the Jets improved at the center position at last year’s deadline. But after his defection in free agency, they’re left with the same need again.
That concludes this edition of Stadium Rant’s NHL rumors. Be sure to check again, as this will be a series published every Wednesday and Sunday.
The latest NHL rumors are swirling around the Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, and New York Islanders.
In Colorado, there are whispers that the Avalanche are looking to add some depth to their defensive corps before the trade deadline. With the team currently sitting near the top of the standings in the Western Conference, they could be looking to make a move to solidify their roster for a deep playoff run.
Meanwhile, in Vancouver, there are rumblings that the Canucks may be looking to shake things up after a disappointing start to the season. With key players underperforming and the team struggling to find consistency, it wouldn’t be surprising to see some changes on the horizon.
As for the New York Islanders, there are reports that they could be in the market for a top-six forward to help boost their offense. With the team currently on the outside looking in at a playoff spot, they may need to make a move to spark their scoring and push for a postseason berth.
With the NHL trade deadline fast approaching, it will be interesting to see how these rumors play out and if any of these teams make a significant move to improve their chances for success in the second half of the season. Stay tuned for more updates as the deadline approaches.

The New York Islanders recently announced top defenseman Noah Dobson would be out on a week-to-week basis with a lower-body injury. To help fill the gap, the Islanders have signed defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a one-year contract.
DeAngelo will play out the remainder of the season with the Islanders, earning $775,000 against the salary cap.

DeAngelo played 34 games with St. Petersburg, scoring six goals and 26 assists for 32 total points. He was one of the team’s top point producers on a lineup loaded with former and future NHL talent.
Heading into the 2024 offseason, DeAngelo was a top defensive free agent in the NHL, but couldn’t find a new deal. Leading into signing in Russia, DeAngelo has played 371 career games in the NHL with 48 goals and 162 assists for 210 total points.
DeAngelo was coming off of a 31-game season with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2023-24 that saw him pick up 11 total points (3G-8A).
A former 19th overall pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2014, DeAngelo has bounced around the NHL a bit. He made his NHL debut with the Arizona Coyotes in 2016 before eventually moving on to the New York Rangers, Hurricanes, and Philadelphia Flyers.
Before he can officially join the Islanders, DeAngelo must clear waivers.
The New York Islanders have made a bold move by signing controversial free agent defensemen to their roster. The Islanders have always been a team known for their strong defensive play, and this new addition is sure to shake things up.
This free agent has had a history of on-ice altercations and has been suspended multiple times for his aggressive play. However, the Islanders are confident that they can harness his talents and use them to their advantage.
Fans are divided on this signing, with some excited about the potential impact this player could have on the team’s defense, while others are concerned about the potential for drama and controversy.
Only time will tell if this signing will pay off for the Islanders, but one thing is for sure – it’s going to be an interesting season with this new addition to the roster.

The New York Islanders have signed defenceman Tony DeAngelo to a one-year contract for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
The 29-year-old from Sewell, NJ hasn’t played in the NHL this season, but scored six goals and 26 assists over 34 games with the KHL’s St. Petersburg SKA.
DeAngelo appeared in 31 games with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, recording three goals and eight assists. He added two assists in nine playoff games.
DeAngelo has one goal and 12 assists in 26 playoff games.
The Islanders are last place in the Metropolitan Division with a 19-20-7 record.
The New York Islanders have bolstered their defensive lineup by signing D Tony DeAngelo for the remainder of the season. DeAngelo, who was previously with the Carolina Hurricanes, brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Islanders’ blue line.
The 26-year-old defenseman is known for his offensive prowess and playmaking abilities, making him a valuable asset for the Islanders as they push for a playoff spot. DeAngelo’s addition will provide a much-needed boost to the team’s defensive corps and help solidify their chances of making a deep postseason run.
Fans are excited to see DeAngelo in action wearing the Islanders’ jersey and are hopeful that his presence will make a significant impact on the team’s performance in the remaining games of the season. Good morning Gang Green Nation! The New York Jets hired Aaron Glenn to be their new head coach two days ago. Now we await the decision on a new general manager. The three finalists are rumored to be Darren Mougey, Trey Brown and Lance Newmark. All three have already completed second interviews with the Jets, so presumably it won’t be long until we have a decision. It’s difficult to glean much from candidates that have never actually been NFL general managers. My top two choices going into this process were Alec Halaby and Trey Brown, so I still have one guy in contention. However, I have very little confidence I or anyone else outside of NFL front offices have enough information on these guys to make a very confident assessment as to their relative merits. All we can do is hope for the best and brace for the worst.
Here are your links to your New York Jets this glorious Friday in January:
Jarrett Bell – Aaron Glenn’s hire by New York Jets draws Bill Parcells’ approval
Former New York Jets player Aaron Glenn has drawn the approval of legendary coach Bill Parcells for his impressive work as the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator.
Glenn, who played for the Jets from 1994 to 2001, has been making a name for himself in the coaching world with his innovative defensive schemes and leadership skills.
Parcells, who coached the Jets from 1997 to 1999, recently praised Glenn for his coaching abilities and predicted a bright future for the former cornerback.
With Parcells’ endorsement and Glenn’s proven track record, Jets fans can expect to see great things from Aaron Glenn in the years to come.

Sometimes, your enemies become your friends. Such was the case when the Washington Commanders hired assistant general manager Lance Newmark out of the Detroit Lions organization.
Sitting high atop Ford Field on Saturday night along with general manager Adam Peters, Newmark cheered on his new team as the Commanders dispatched the Lions from the playoffs.
However, sometimes your old friends turned enemies can become friends again, and after former Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn officially became the head coach of the New York Jets, it appears Newmark may be leaving Washington to join him as the team’s new general manager.

“With the Jets finalizing their expected deal with Aaron Glenn to be their head coach, the team now plans to proceed to additional second interviews for their GM job, per sources,” NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported. “Lance Newmark was in the building with Glenn on Monday, and others remain under consideration.”
Newmark was also seen at practice with the Commanders on Wednesday, signaling that while he auditions for promotions, he’s still focused on what is happening with his current team.
Given his involvement in the turnaround of the Lions and Washington franchises, it would be wise for the Jets to hire Newmark, especially if Glenn signs off on the move, given their previous work history together.
Those around the Commanders would be sad to see Newmark leave, for sure, as he’s been a key part of a staff that helped turn the franchise from a joke to being one win from competing for a trip to the Super Bowl this weekend.

The New York Jets are making moves as they are reportedly one step closer to stealing a top executive from the Washington Commanders. According to sources, the Jets have been in talks with the Commanders’ executive for a potential front office role.
This potential hire could be a game-changer for the Jets, who have been looking to revamp their front office and bring in fresh talent to help turn around the struggling franchise. The Commanders’ executive is known for their strong leadership skills and strategic vision, which could be exactly what the Jets need to start moving in the right direction.
While nothing has been confirmed yet, the Jets are clearly serious about making a splash in the front office and are willing to go after top talent to make it happen. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the Jets continue their pursuit of the Commanders’ executive.

Campbell said the next coordinators could be internal candidates already on staff or candidates outside of the organization. He said he’ll be looking for the right fit in Detroit.
“I think we’ve got guys on staff that I think are more than qualified and would be outstanding in those roles, but that does not mean that I’m not looking outside either,” Campbell said.
“So, I want what I believe is going to be as close to what we have been as possible, and we don’t lose what we’re about and our identity. We’re going to stay true to who we are, and if you’re somebody that doesn’t feel comfortable with that, then no, I don’t – this isn’t the job for you.
“I’m not going to be in a hurry, I’m not in a mad dash. No matter what happens I want to do what’s right by our team and what I believe is going to – those guys will be able to stand in front of that room and command respect and get everybody going in the same direction and will, ultimately, deliver the same message that I’m delivering.”
In an effort to promote diversity and inclusion at the highest level, the NFL awards compensatory draft picks to teams that lose minority coaches to head-coaching opportunities with other teams. With Glenn being hired as the new head coach of the Jets, the Lions will receive a third-round compensatory pick in 2025 and 2026. Detroit currently doesn’t have a third-round pick in this year’s draft after trading it to the Jets last year to move up to select tackle Giovanni Manu.
Former New Orleans Saints defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn has officially accepted the head coaching job with the New York Jets. Glenn, who has been a rising star in the coaching ranks, impressed the Jets with his leadership abilities and defensive expertise.
Glenn, a former NFL player himself, has been mentored by some of the best coaches in the league and has proven himself as a valuable asset to any team. His experience as a player gives him a unique perspective on coaching and developing players to reach their full potential.
The Jets are hoping that Glenn can bring a winning culture to the team and help turn around their struggling defense. With his passion for the game and proven track record of success, Glenn is sure to make a significant impact on the organization.
Fans are excited to see what Glenn can bring to the table as head coach and are hopeful that he can lead the Jets to success in the upcoming seasons. Congratulations to Aaron Glenn on this well-deserved opportunity!
