  • Done Deals – Young Duo Arrive in Rome To Complete Lazio Transfers

Lazio have sealed deals for Reda Belahyane and Oliver Provstgaard who have both landed in Rome ahead of their imminent transfers.

The Biancocelesti spent the entire January transfer session hunting a young midfielder. But after recently missing out on Torino’s new signing Cesare Casadei following a back-and-forth transfer saga, they reverted to their original target, Belahyane. The Italian capital side pounced on their good relationships with Hellas Verona to strike a swift agreement.

As reported by Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the 20-year-old French Morrocan was spotted in Rome as he arrives to finalise a deadline-day transfer on Monday. The young deep-lying playmaker is an OGC Nice youth product who joined the Gialloblu a year ago for less than €1 million and made his Serie A debut under Marco Baroni.

Belahyane rose to prominence this season with Paolo Zanetti in charge, cementing himself as a regular feature for Verona. Hence, he should cost Lazio €12-13 million.

Moreover, Claudio Lotito and Angelo Fabiani have also been seeking a new central defender, and have finally found their man in Provstgaard. According to Sky Sport DE journalist Florian Plettenberg, the 21-year-old Dane has also arrived in the Italian capital following an agreement between Lazio and Vejle on a tranfer fee of €4 million.

The young centre-back is blessed with an impressive physical frame and as well as technical attributes, rendering him a modern-day defender. Since both players are under the age of 22, neither will warrant a spot on the club’s congested Serie A squad list.

Lazio fans, get ready to welcome two exciting young talents to the club as they arrive in Rome to complete their transfers!

The first player is a highly-rated midfielder who has been making waves in his home country. Known for his technical ability and vision on the pitch, he is expected to bring a new dimension to Lazio’s midfield.

The second player is a promising forward who has been turning heads with his speed and skill. With a keen eye for goal, he is set to bolster Lazio’s attacking options and provide some much-needed firepower.

Both players are eager to prove themselves in Serie A and help Lazio achieve their goals this season. Stay tuned for the official announcements as these deals are finalized and the players are officially unveiled as Lazio’s newest signings. Exciting times ahead for the Biancocelesti! #ForzaLazio #DoneDeals

  • Messier Chirps Bedard, Why Sit the Young D? Draft Trades, Prospect Highlights, and Other Blackhawks Bullets

The Blackhawks got their fast start on Saturday — the fastest in team history — and then watched the Panthers absolutely boat race them for the 59:53 that followed. It was a rough reminder that the Florida Panthers are a well coached, structured team with championship pedigree and a standard by which they play the game. And the Blackhawks are… the Blackhawks.

    • It was a rough assignment for Connor Murphy to return from being out for a long time injured, and he showed some rust early in the game. Louis Crevier left the lineup in the middle of the first period after he was boarded and did not return. Interim head coach Anders Sorensen opted to put both Ethan Del Mastro and Nolan Allan in the press box as healthy scratches on Saturday. Mark Lazerus asked Sorensen why he was sitting both of the two younger defensemen and keeping TJ Brodie in the lineup. Laz tweeted the questions and his responses. I’m pretty sure this isn’t going to improve the responses from fans (it shouldn’t).
    • After the Blackhawks were completely overwhelmed in the first period on Saturday, Mark Messier had some very pointed comments about Connor Bedard.
    • I noted this yesterday after a flurry of trades in about a 12-hour window involving the Canucks, Rangers, Penguins, Stars and Sharks: as of Saturday morning, 28 of the first 64 picks in the 2025 NHL Draft have now been traded (assuming all picks transfer). Dallas had kept their first-round pick in 11 of the 12 previous drafts with Jim Nill as the GM. That speaks volumes about how NHL front offices view the depth of this year’s draft class.
    • It’s noteworthy that, among the teams specifically stockpiling picks in the first two rounds of the 2025 NHL Draft: Philadelphia (7), Nashville (5), Blackhawks (4) and, now, San Jose (3).
    • Good read from Mark Lazerus of The Athletic about how Frank Nazar is remaining steady thru the ups and downs of a rookie season in the NHL.

Why Frank Nazar is particularly well-suited to handle the ups and downs of a rookie season:

(Plus some quick game notes from Sunrise.)

    — Mark Lazerus (@marklazerus.bsky.social) February 1, 2025 at 5:47 PM

    • Landon Slaggert scored the only goal of the game for the Blackhawks yesterday. He was also credited with one blocked shot, one hit and a team-high four shots on net. But he only skated 11:02.
    • Colton Dach was credited with three hits, one blocked shot and two shots on net yesterday. But he only skated 10:46.
    • And here I thought Sorensen was installed as the interim head coach because he was going to play the kids more after having them in Rockford… because Luke Richardson’s style and approach were the problems, right?

Hey how about some Blackhawks prospect highlights?

    • Minnesota swept the Border War weekend against Wisconsin, winning 4-1 last night. Oliver Moore had himself a night, scoring once and adding two primary assists.
    • John Mustard scored a nice goal in the first period for Providence on Saturday afternoon.
    • Denver beat Omaha 11-2 (yes, eleven!) and Aidan Thompson was credited with two assists.
    • Jack Pridham extended his personal point streak to six games (four goals, three assists) with an assist for Kitchener.

In this post, we will be diving into the latest news surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks, including Messier Chirps Bedard, the decision to sit the young defensemen, draft trades, prospect highlights, and more.

First off, let’s talk about Messier Chirps Bedard. The legendary Mark Messier recently had some high praise for top prospect Connor Bedard, comparing him to himself and saying that Bedard has the potential to be a generational player. This is certainly exciting news for Blackhawks fans, as Bedard could be a game-changer for the team in the future.

Next, we have the decision to sit the young defensemen. The Blackhawks have made the interesting choice to sit some of their younger defensemen in favor of more experienced players. While this may be a bit frustrating for fans who want to see the young talent develop, it could be a smart move in the long run to give them more time to adjust and grow.

In terms of draft trades, the Blackhawks have been active in trying to make some moves to improve their roster. Keep an eye out for any potential trades leading up to the draft, as the team looks to add depth and talent to their lineup.

And finally, let’s highlight some of the top prospects in the Blackhawks’ system. Players like Alex Vlasic, Lukas Reichel, and Evan Barratt are all making waves in the minors and could be key pieces for the team in the future. It’s always exciting to see young players develop and make an impact at the NHL level.

Overall, there’s a lot to be excited about for Blackhawks fans as the team looks to build towards a bright future. Stay tuned for more updates and news as the season progresses!

  • Luka Doncic could be one player the Spurs would make young star available for trade

The NBA trade deadline is nearing and rumors are spreading rapidly. With De’Aaron Fox likely on his way out of Sacramento as the Kings are looking for trade partners — the San Antonio Spurs are his requested destination.

The Spurs are an enticing trade location as Victor Wembanyama has the potential to be the most dominant player in the entire NBA, and opposing players might want to compliment him and share the floor with him.

For Fox, that’s the case as he wants to compete for NBA championships while making superstar-level money — which the Spurs might be able to provide.

One coveted young star the Kings might ask for in a trade is Stephon Castle, a 20-year-old rookie out of UConn.

Castle was the No. 4 overall selection in the recent NBA draft and holds a wealth of potential in the NBA. The Spurs value that as Wembanyama is incredibly young himself, and the duo could develop into a great tandem for years to come.

    Stephon Castle

According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, the Spurs value Castle greatly and consider him untouchable, unless two teams make a call. The ESPN analyst suggested that San Antonio could make the UConn product available for players like Luka Doncic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.

“If there was a Shai Gilgeous-Alexander or Luka Doncic on the table, they might consider it. But I don’t know if De’Aaron Fox rises to that level… They may believe Castle will be comparable to Fox in a couple of years,” Windhorst said.

There is no reason to believe the Dallas Mavericks have a sliver of consideration in trading Donic. The Slovenian superstar is the club’s franchise talent, and he will continue to be treated as such throughout his prime years in the league.

    Luka Doncic

Still, Windhorst used Doncic as an example as to how high the Spurs value the young guard, and that a player like Fox might not be worth moving on from such a young talent.

The San Antonio Spurs are known for their ability to develop young talent and build successful teams, but could they be willing to part ways with one of their promising young stars in order to acquire a player like Luka Doncic?

Doncic, the dynamic point guard for the Dallas Mavericks, has quickly established himself as one of the most talented players in the NBA. His combination of scoring ability, playmaking skills, and basketball IQ make him a valuable asset for any team.

While the Spurs have a strong core of young players, including Dejounte Murray and Lonnie Walker IV, they may see Doncic as a player who could elevate their team to the next level. With his ability to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates, Doncic could be the missing piece that the Spurs need to compete for a championship.

Of course, any potential trade for Doncic would come at a high cost. The Mavericks would likely demand a significant package of young players and draft picks in return for their star guard. But for a team like the Spurs, who are always looking to improve and compete at the highest level, making a bold move for a player like Doncic could be worth the risk.

Ultimately, only time will tell if the Spurs are willing to make a move for Doncic. But if they do, it could be a game-changer for the team and solidify their status as a top contender in the NBA.

  • Chris Paul Shares Cautious Message for Young Spurs Amid De’Aaron Fox Trade Rumors

With the NBA trade deadline just days away, teams are scrambling to make the move that will position them for a push to the Finals, or help them reset and reload as they prepare for the future.

Few players know the chaos of the trade deadline better than 20-year NBA veteran Chris Paul. The San Antonio Spurs guard has played for seven teams over the course of his career, and has seen the rapid restructuring of franchises happen up close and personal.

After the Spurs 128–116 loss to the Clippers—one of Paul’s former teams—on Wednesday, Paul was asked if he had any advice for some of his younger teammates as the uncertainty of the trade deadline drew closer. Paul did not mince words.

“Just keep playing, and understand that a pair of lips can say anything,” Paul said.

“People will be, ‘sources say, sources said’—we’ve got coaches and GMs at the gym every day. Ask. If it concerns you that mu›ch, ask, and hopefully they will be honest or straight up with you if you’re concerned about it. Obviously it’s always a weird time for everybody, but I think every team is going to do what’s best in their favor.”

Paul’s answer was especially meaningful, given that the Spurs were reported to be working towards acquiring Sacramento Kings guard De’Aaron Fox in a deadline deal that would certainly require the shuffling of quite a few players.

While the limbo of the trade deadline is surely unpleasant for players, as Paul said, you can always ask, but just be careful of what you believe.

Even with the stress of the approaching deadline, on the bright side, every question a player could have will be answered by 3 p.m. ET next Thursday.

Chris Paul, the veteran point guard of the Phoenix Suns, recently shared a cautious message for young players on the San Antonio Spurs amid trade rumors surrounding De’Aaron Fox.

In an interview, Paul emphasized the importance of staying focused and not getting distracted by trade talks or rumors. He advised the young Spurs players to continue working hard, improving their game, and staying committed to the team’s goals.

Paul’s message comes at a crucial time for the Spurs, who are facing uncertainty with the potential trade of Fox. As a seasoned player who has experienced his fair share of trade rumors throughout his career, Paul’s words serve as a reminder to stay grounded and focused on the task at hand.

While trade rumors can be unsettling, especially for young players, Paul’s advice to block out the noise and focus on the game is a valuable lesson that can help the Spurs navigate through this challenging period. The team will need to stay united and continue to work together to achieve success, regardless of any external distractions.

As the Spurs navigate through the trade rumors surrounding De’Aaron Fox, Chris Paul’s message serves as a timely reminder for young players to stay focused, work hard, and remain committed to their team.

  • Florida Panthers Put Young Defenseman on NHL Waivers

Adam Boqvist could have played his final game with the Florida Panthers after being placed on NHL waivers by the team on Thursday.

Boqvist, the younger brother of Florida forward Jesper, has found playing time hard to come by since signing with the Panthers a week after being bought out by the Blue Jackets last summer.

The 24-year-old, who was the eighth-overall pick of the 2018 NHL draft by the Blackhawks, has only played 18 games for the Panthers this season.

Boqvist was placed on waivers by the Panthers after only playing three games this month.

When Niko Mikkola was injured and out of the lineup, Boqvist came in and had an assist in five games.

But the Panthers brought Toby Bjornfot up from Charlotte when Aaron Ekblad got hurt and played him over Boqvist.

Barring another move, Bjornfot could be called back to the Panthers after being sent to Charlotte on Sunday.

If Boqvist clears waivers and is not picked up by another NHL team, he could be assigned to Charlotte — or simply left on the roster.

By clearing waivers on Friday, the Panthers would have the option to send him down in the near future if they so chose.

Boqvist is a right-handed defenseman only making $775,000 this season and he is a restricted free agent meaning whichever team he is playing for at the end of this year has his rights until he can become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.

So, Boqvist is expected to get claimed by someone.

While Adam Boqvist has struggled to find a spot with the Panthers, Jesper has had a career year in South Florida scoring a 12 goals with 20 points in 49 games.

Florida holds his rights for next season.

The Florida Panthers have made a surprising move by placing young defenseman Riley Stillman on waivers for the purpose of reassigning him to their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Thunderbirds. Stillman, 23, has shown promise in his limited NHL appearances, but with a crowded blue line in Florida, the team has decided to give him more playing time in the minors.

Stillman, a fourth-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, has played in 43 games with the Panthers over the past two seasons, recording 10 points and a plus/minus rating of +4. However, with the recent additions of veteran defensemen to the Panthers roster, including Brandon Montour and Markus Nutivaara, Stillman has found himself on the outside looking in.

While it may be disappointing for Stillman to be placed on waivers, this move could benefit his development in the long run. By getting more playing time in the AHL, he will have the opportunity to further hone his skills and gain valuable experience that will ultimately help him become a more well-rounded defenseman.

It remains to be seen whether another NHL team will claim Stillman off waivers, but regardless of the outcome, the Panthers are making a move that they believe is best for the young defenseman’s development. Only time will tell if this decision pays off in the long run.
