The Texans-Chiefs playoff game this weekend not only features two powerhouse teams battling it out for a spot in the AFC Championship, but it also has several connections to the Arizona Cardinals.

One of the most notable connections is Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who began his coaching career as an offensive assistant with the Cardinals back in 1989. Reid spent three seasons with the Cardinals before moving on to other coaching opportunities, eventually landing with the Chiefs in 2013.

Additionally, Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins was originally drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2014, where he played alongside former Cardinals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. Watkins was later traded to the Los Angeles Rams, where he played with former Cardinals cornerback Marcus Peters before joining the Chiefs in 2018.

On the Texans side, offensive coordinator Tim Kelly got his start in the NFL as an intern with the Cardinals in 2007. Kelly worked his way up the coaching ranks before landing his current position with the Texans in 2019.

With these connections to the Arizona Cardinals, it’s clear that the Texans-Chiefs playoff game will have a special significance for fans of the Red Sea. Be sure to tune in this Sunday to see which team will come out on top and advance to the next round of the playoffs.
