Charlie McAvoy is expected to miss his third straight game due to injury, while fellow defenseman Hampus Lindholm continues to work his way back from a lower-body ailment that has sidelined him since November.

With a shorthanded unit, goaltender Jeremy Swayman has faced more than 40 shots in three straight games as the Bruins have been outshot 132-70. Boston has been outshot in each of the last six games.

Four Sharks who could play their first-ever NHL game against Boston will feel comfortable at TD Garden. The group consists of Massachusetts natives Will Smith (Lexington), Collin Graf (Lincoln), and Henry Thrun (Southborough), and last summer’s No. 1 overall draft pick Macklin Celebrini, who won the Hobey Baker Award as a 17-year-old at Boston University last season.

First-year coach Ryan Warsofsky starred at Marshfield High and Cushing Academy before playing collegiately at Sacred Heart and Curry.

The Sharks, who are three games into a five-game road trip, have lost five of six following a 4-1 defeat to the Islanders on Saturday. Barclay Goodrow scored the lone goal as the Sharks missed goaltender Yaroslav Askarov (illness) and leading scorer Tyler Toffoli (lower-body injury).

Celebrini entered Sunday as the NHL’s third-leading rookie scorer with 32 points in 36 games, including 13 goals.
