Titans hiring John Fassel as next special teams coordinator
The Tennessee Titans are reportedly making a major staff change following their league-worst 3-14 finish to the 2024 NFL season.
Per a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, The Titans will be bringing in veteran coach John Fassel as their next special teams coordinator. Fassel has been an NFL special teams coordinator since 2008, most recently holding the post with the Dallas Cowboys since 2020. Fassel also served as the Los Angeles Rams’ head coach for three games in 2016 after the team dismissed former Rams and Titans coach Jeff Fisher.
These moves come after the Titans’ decision to dismiss general manager Ran Carthon and replace him with former Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi.
Carthon was the Titans’ GM for two seasons, guiding the team to a 9-25 record. Borgonzi was officially announced as the team’s next general manager on Friday, ending a search in which the Titans spoke to 10 candidates.

The Titans finished their season on a six-game skid, tied for the longest in the NFL. The offense consistently ranked among the league’s worst in 2024, mainly because of a high volume of turnovers, combined with inconsistent quarterback play from Will Levis and Mason Rudolph, and the struggles to find an answer at right tackle.
Special teams was a huge concern for the Titans throughout the 2024 season. Punter Ryan Stonehouse had kicks blocked in each of the team’s first two games, Titans opponents led the NFL in punt return yards and ranked second in the league in yards per kickoff return and rookie Jha’Quan Jackson dealt with ball security issues throughout the season that led to him being benched in December.
