Top 5 things to watch for in Buffalo Bills vs. Baltimore Ravens
1. Josh and Lamar not Josh vs Lamar
Stop me if you’ve heard this before- the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens face off in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. The last time this happened was in the 2020 AFC Divisional Round and both teams look different today than they did even in Week 4 of the 2024 season when they last faced off.
“I feel like we’ve grown quite a bit since that game,” QB Josh Allen said. “Going back and watching it obviously wasn’t our best effort. Felt like we didn’t play our best football. But they got a really good team too. They’re playing this week for a reason… They got a lot of studs over there, led by Lamar, obviously, and it’s a tough team to play regardless.”
This is one of the most anticipate matchups of the postseason so far because of the two MVP favorites going toe-to-toe in an attempt to get their team over the hump to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship game and compete for a Super Bowl.
“It’s like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson have become the rivalry that it is in the highly anticipated fight this upcoming weekend, because all of us are thinking, which one of these guys is going to finally get over the hump, and I’m eager to watch it,” ESPN’s Pat McAfee said. “What a perfect stage for the NFL to have.”
- Quarterback showdown: Josh Allen vs. Lamar Jackson – Two dynamic quarterbacks will face off in this game. Allen has been playing at an MVP level this season, while Jackson is a former MVP himself. This matchup will be crucial in determining the outcome of the game.
- Defense wins championships: Both teams boast top-tier defenses that are capable of shutting down opposing offenses. The Bills have a strong pass rush led by defensive end Jerry Hughes, while the Ravens have a stout secondary anchored by cornerback Marlon Humphrey. Keep an eye on which defense can make the key stops when it matters most.
- Ground game: The Ravens have one of the best rushing attacks in the league, led by running back J.K. Dobbins and quarterback Lamar Jackson. The Bills will need to contain this potent rushing attack in order to have a chance at winning. On the other side, Buffalo’s running game, led by Devin Singletary, will need to find success against Baltimore’s stout run defense.
- Coaching chess match: Sean McDermott of the Bills and John Harbaugh of the Ravens are two of the best coaches in the league. Both are known for their strategic game planning and in-game adjustments. Watch for how each coach schemes against the other team and makes crucial decisions throughout the game.
- Playoff implications: This game could have significant playoff implications for both teams. The Bills are fighting for the top spot in the AFC East, while the Ravens are battling for a wild card spot in the crowded AFC playoff race. Every game counts at this point in the season, so expect both teams to leave it all on the field.
