Tracking closures for Jan. 21, 2025


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Some school districts in the North Carolina mountains adjusted their schedules for Tuesday due to anticipated cold weather.

Extreme cold was expected in the mountains in North Carolina on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Areas closer to Charlotte were also set to experience cold temperatures, though not as cold as the mountains.

A cold weather advisory was issued for the Charlotte Metro area — including counties in both North and South Carolina — the night of Monday, Jan. 20. Feels-like temperatures could get as low as 5 degrees overnight in the area.

A cold weather advisory was also active further north and west in North Carolina on Monday night. Feels-like temperatures there could get as low as -10 degrees overnight into Tuesday.

An extreme cold warning was issued for Ashe and Watauga counties in western North Carolina for Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Areas south and east of the Charlotte region should also have some cold temperatures on Tuesday, with chances for snow in the evening. The Charlotte region could see some light flurries on Tuesday, but no accumulating snow was expected.
