SHASTA COUNTY, Calif. – A wanted suspect led Shasta County sheriff’s deputies on a lengthy pursuit across western Shasta County on Tuesday before ultimately being arrested.
Around 8:54 a.m., deputies attempted an enforcement stop on a vehicle in the area of Cloverdale Road and Oak Street in the Happy Valley area of Shasta County. The driver was believed to be 40-year-old Anthony Esquaville, a wanted suspect.
When deputies tried to pull over the vehicle, Esquaville failed to yield, triggering a pursuit that would last for more than four hours and cover over 20 miles of both paved roads and off-road terrain, the sheriff’s office said.
During the chase, Esquaville engaged in reckless driving, including speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, and even cutting through several private ranches, the sheriff’s office said.
Despite Esquaville’s dangerous maneuvers, authorities were able to keep track of his location throughout the pursuit, which continued through parts of western Shasta County.
The pursuit eventually ended when Esquaville’s vehicle became disabled on a ranch near McAuliffe Road and Bland Road. Esquaville was apprehended without further incident and taken into custody.
Esquaville was arrested on several outstanding warrants. Esquaville was booked into Shasta County Jail, where a no-bail enhancement was granted by a Shasta County Judge.
Shasta County authorities have apprehended a wanted suspect following a lengthy pursuit that spanned several hours. The suspect, who had been evading law enforcement for weeks, was finally taken into custody after a high-speed chase through the streets of Redding.
The pursuit began when officers attempted to pull over the suspect for a routine traffic violation. Instead of stopping, the suspect fled, leading law enforcement on a wild chase through residential neighborhoods and busy streets. Despite attempts to evade capture, the suspect was eventually cornered and arrested without further incident.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect or the specific charges they are facing, but it is believed that they are wanted for multiple offenses. The successful apprehension of the suspect is a testament to the dedication and hard work of law enforcement in Shasta County.
