Warm, dry weekend before some changes next week
PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A low-pressure system moving down the West Coast will bring some changes next week.
However, for the weekend, the weather is looking pretty nice. Even though we’ll see a fair amount of clouds at times, it will be dry in the Valley, and we’re looking at highs around or just above 70 degrees.
The changes we’re looking at begin late Sunday as the leading edge of that storm system begins to enter Mojave County in northwest Arizona.
For Saturday, there’s a red flag warning for northeast Arizona that includes the Flagstaff area and areas along the Mogollon Rim into the White Mountains. High winds and dry conditions make the fire danger high.
A winter storm watch is posted for much of Mojave County beginning at 11 p.m. Sunday and running until 11 a.m. Tuesday.
The brunt of any moisture there should occur on Monday. Snowfall amounts in the forecast vary, but we’ve got 4-8″ possible above 7000 feet and 2-5″ of snow possible above 3,500 feet.
We think there’s also a chance that snow will spread across northern Arizona, and we may see alerts extended there. However, it’s still pretty unclear how much snow we’ll get in northern and eastern Arizona.
The same can be said for Valley rain. While we’re expecting light rain with the highest chances Monday night into Tuesday morning, we can’t guarantee every location around metro Phoenix is actually going to get rain at this point.
The timing is uncertain; the storm will cut off from the main jet stream, which mainly slows it down, making it tough to determine when it will reach Arizona.
It’s a lock that we’ll see cooler temperatures again next week, as well as clouds and breezes. What’s still a bit unclear is how much, if any, rain we’ll see in the Valley.
