The Sun Bowl is set to deliver another thrilling football matchup, but some big names will not be taking the field.
Several Louisville and Washington players have opted out or entered the transfer portal ahead of Tuesday’s game, Dec. 31, at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, Texas. Skipping bowl games to focus on future opportunities continues to be a growing trend.
One notable example came in 2016 when Stanford’s Christian McCaffrey missed the Sun Bowl matchup against North Carolina to prepare for the 2017 NFL Draft.
Players who have entered the transfer portal can still play in bowl games under certain exceptions, but they typically do not participate.
