ERCOT is expecting higher electrical demand and the potential for lower reserves.
HOUSTON — The Electric Reliability Council of Texas has issued a warning ahead of next week’s extreme cold weather.
ERCOT issued a Weather Watch for Jan. 20 through Jan. 23 due to the arctic blast that’s expected to take over the state.
The cold will cause a higher electrical demand as well as the potential for lower reserves.
Precipitation (snow and ice) is also expected across parts of Texas.
ERCOT said it’s expecting grid conditions to be normal but wants people to be aware of the possibilities.

According to ERCOT, a Weather Watch is an advance notification of forecasted significant weather with higher electrical demand and the potential for lower reserves. Grid conditions are expected to be normal at this time, and there is no current expectation of an energy emergency. Texans should continue to monitor real-time and extended grid conditions at ercot.com.
