What are Seahawks playoff chances? What to know

The Seattle Seahawks can still make the playoffs this season, but they’ll need help to get there.
With two games left in the regular season – including tonight’s game against the Chicago Bears – the only avenue to a playoff spot for the Seahawks is to win the NFC West. And the only path to winning the NFC West is to win a tiebreaker over the Los Angeles Rams.
The specific tiebreakers in question for the Seahawks will either be divisional record or strength of victory.
The cleanest path for Seattle requires the Rams to lose or tie to the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday, which would set up a pure NFC West championship game between the two teams next week. Seattle would hold the divisional record tiebreaker over the Rams in that scenario and would win the division with a victory over Los Angeles.
The Seahawks beating the Bears isn’t even necessary in this scenario as beating the Rams next would see the teams tied at 9-8.
But if the Rams beat Arizona, the strength of victory tiebreaker is the only path remaining.
The Seahawks would need to beat the Bears and beat Los Angeles next weekend to close out the regular season and get into a tie with the Rams at 10-7. Then, Seattle would need the results of multiple games to swing their direction to get the strength of victory tiebreaker in their favor.
The Rams win the strength of victory tiebreaker with 3.5 wins (three wins and a tie, or four victories) from the Minnesota Vikings (vs. Green Bay), Buffalo Bills (vs. NY Jets), San Francisco 49ers (vs. Detroit), Washington Commanders (vs. Atlanta), Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Denver), and Cleveland Browns (vs. Miami).
That’s 3.5 wins needed over the final two weeks of the season combined for the Rams to clinch, which would be a tall ask for the Seahawks to survive.
