When is Presidents Day 2025 and why we celebrate the federal holiday?

Presidents Day in 2025 falls on Monday, February 17th. This federal holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of February each year in honor of the birthdays of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, two of the most influential presidents in American history.

Originally established in 1885 to recognize President George Washington’s birthday on February 22nd, the holiday was later expanded to include Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on February 12th. Over time, Presidents Day has become a day to honor all past and present U.S. presidents and their contributions to the country.

Many Americans use Presidents Day as a day to reflect on the legacy of our nation’s leaders, participate in community service projects, or take advantage of sales and discounts at retail stores. It is also a time for schools to educate students about the history and significance of the presidency.

So, as we approach Presidents Day 2025, let us take a moment to appreciate the leaders who have shaped our country and the values they have instilled in us as Americans.
