When is the next Fortnite update? Fortnite OG Season 2 kicks off as Godzilla retreats
Fortnite will go down for several hours starting at 9am in the UK (4am ET) on Friday as Epic Games prepares its latest update.
The blockbuster multiplayer game, which is awash with new modes, is finding space for a raft of new content.
It’s all about Fortnite OG this time round, with the throwback battle royale mode commencing its second season. Here’s when you can expect the game to come back online and all the new goodies in store.
When is the next Fortnite update?
Epic will end matchmaking shortly before downtime commences at 9am on Friday, meaning players won’t be able to join any game modes.
Although the exact timings aren’t confirmed, players can expect the game to remain dark for several hours. During this time, Fortnite will be stuck on its loading screen.
If everything goes smoothly, the game’s servers should come back online at noon, when players will get to grab the new loot.
What do we know about the update?
To get players pumped, Epic has revealed OG season two’s overhauled map, complete with iconic locations from yesteryear. There’s Tilted Towers (which, as long-serving fans know, is also featured on Fortnite Reload and was first introduced in Chapter 1, Season 2), Shifty Shafts, Junk Junction, Snobby Shores and Haunted Hills.
Expect all the old-school spots to get a new lick of paint while remaining instantly recognisable. For many players, these locations were their go-to points during the early days of Fortnite, whether dropping in or during the end game.
As Epic previously revealed, each new season of Fortnite OG will be based on past seasons from Chapter 1, with the action taking place on the original Fortnite Island.
What’s in the Fortnite OG Season 2 Battle Pass
More broadly, it looks like season two will come fully loaded with a new Battle Pass. Remember, the original Chapter 1, Season 2 marked the debut of the Battle Pass, the progression system that has since been adopted by numerous live service games.
Of course, that means a bunch of new skins will be available to grab – and eagle-eyed fans have already leaked a few based on the teasers shared by Epic. They include remixed versions of the Black Knight, Cuddle Team Leader, and Sparkle Specialist (all with custom gliders).
Players will be able to progress through the OG Pass by earning XP in any Fortnite game mode (in keeping with the recent changes made to Fortnite proper).
Beyond Fortnite OG, Epic will be vaulting Godzilla to mark the end of the Titan Takedown event.
While you won’t be able to transform into the mighty Kaiju for the time being, there is a chance he’s added to Fortnite Creative mode in the future, setting him up to return in other modes down the line.
What’s new in Lego Fortnite?
Fortnite’s Lego Brick Life mode is turning up the charm with its Valentine’s 2025 update – also launching today.
Players can assist the local florist, Sunflower, in spreading love throughout Brick Bay by delivering flowers, love letters, and heart wands, earning Cupid’s Surprises that may contain chocolicious home decor. New daily activities are also on the agenda:
- Vampire Experiment: Help Mourndale Academy students test invisibility potions, with a twist—some turn players into vampires hunting survivors.
- Litter Boxing: Join Meowscles in beachfront boxing matches, battling to be the last player standing in the ring.
- A Race with Drift: Rev up for high-speed races across Brick Bay, competing for the fastest time.
The activities will kick off at 5pm Brick Bay time, with the game pinging your virtual phone with reminders.
The highly-anticipated next Fortnite update is just around the corner, as the OG Season 2 kicks off with a bang. After the epic battle with Godzilla, players are now gearing up for new challenges and rewards in the popular battle royale game.
So, when can we expect the next Fortnite update to drop? While Epic Games has not officially announced a release date yet, rumors are circulating that it could be as soon as next week. With new skins, weapons, and map changes expected, players are eagerly awaiting the latest content drop.
As the Fortnite community eagerly awaits the next update, be sure to stay tuned to official channels for the latest news and announcements. In the meantime, sharpen your skills and get ready for what promises to be an exciting new chapter in Fortnite history.
