With a scoop of whipped cream? With marsh mallows melting at the bottom? With a hazelnut or black forest sauce?

There’s nothing more comforting on a cold winter’s day than a hot chocolate and today, Friday, January 31, is a day dedicated to the luxury drink.

It’s National Hot Chocolate Day – a day to celebrate the chocolaty, creamy goodness in mug.

Nirvana Coffee Shop on Lowfield Lane topped the table when it came to finding out who serves the best afternoon teas in St Helens.

The homemade afternoon treat features a selection of sandwiches, wraps and other savouries together with freshly made cakes, buttered scones with clotted cream and jam and a choice of any hot drink from the menu or a cold drink from the fridge.

You can even order a luxury hot chocolate to finish in style!

Lindsey said: “We do plain or luxury hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows as well as a ruby red hot chocolate.

“You can add a syrup – vanilla, honeycomb, caramel, mint, popcorn, gingerbread or hazelnut – for extra flavour.

“The hot chocolates are popular with everyone as they are made with Hershey chocolate syrup and not powder.

“The ruby red hot chocolate is a blend of berry and chocolate flavours – it’s loved by everyone and isn’t just for people with a sweet tooth.”

She added: “Our hot chocolate is a warm hug from the inside out.

“Customers love the velvety chocolate taste.

“They go perfectly with everything on our menu especially with our award-winning afternoon tea.”
