Will it snow in Alabama? Here’s next week’s latest winter weather forecast
The National Weather Service continued to monitor the chances for snow for Alabama next Tuesday and Wednesday.
Forecasters were confident about the probability of dangerously cold temperatures across the state next week.
The confidence level drops off significantly when it comes to the possibility of snow, however.
The probability of seeing snowflakes next week was still in the low to medium range as of Friday morning.
Possible accumulations — if any — were looking lower as well.
And the areas that could have the better snow chances are in south Alabama this time around.
But, as always with snow forecasts, the weather service cautioned that nothing is set in stone and forecast changes are likely through the weekend. Be sure to keep up to date on the forecast.
Alabamians should enjoy the warmer temperatures today and Saturday, which will reach the 60s and possibly even 70s for highs, according to forecasters.
Rain chances will increase tonight as a strong cold front approaches the state. There could be a thunderstorm or two, but no severe weather is expected.
Temperatures are expected to drop steeply on Sunday as air that originated in Siberia moves in to Alabama.

Many areas could remain below freezing for several days.
Wind chills could be in the single digits for parts of north and central Alabama and the teens farther south.
The weather service said cold weather advisories (a new name for wind chill advisories) will be likely next week.
What about snow?
Forecast confidence continued to be murky at best when it comes to the chances for snow in Alabama next week.
If — and that’s a big if — Alabama were to get any snow it would most likely be in the Tuesday-Wednesday timeframe, according to the weather service.
There are a lot more “ifs” that forecasters will have to sort out.
Forecasters will be watching to see if an area of low pressure develops and tracks eastward across the Gulf of Mexico next week.
The weather service said there’s a chance that may not happen, which would mean no snow for Alabama.
However, if that low forms, its location will determine if Alabama gets snow or stays dry and cold.
As of Friday morning the weather service was leaning toward a scenario that the low, if it does form, would track farther to the south.
If Alabama were to get any snow, the weather service was thinking accumulations would be lower than last week.
- The weather service in Huntsville thinks north Alabama would have only at 10-20 percent chance of seeing any snow, with no accumulations expected.
- The weather service in Birmingham thinks there could be low to medium (20-40 percent) chances for snow accumulations at or above 0.25″ Tuesday into Tuesday night, with higher probabilities for the southern part of the region (south of Interstate 85).
- The weather service in Mobile said as of Friday the probability for measurable frozen precipitation for south Alabama remains around 20-40 percent.
Forecasters expect to forecast confidence to go up some in the next few days.
As winter approaches, many Alabamians are wondering if they will see any snow this season. While it is rare for Alabama to experience significant snowfall, there are some indications that the state may see some wintry weather in the coming week.
According to the latest winter weather forecast, there is a chance of snow in Alabama next week. A cold front is expected to move through the region, bringing with it colder temperatures and the potential for precipitation. While the exact amount of snowfall is still uncertain, some areas of the state could see a dusting of snow or sleet.
