Penn State is one victory away from playing for the College Football Playoff Championship and becoming the first team to win college football’s new playoff bracket, but they must first win the Orange Bowl in the CFP’s semifinal round.

Penn State will play in the Orange Bowl
After dispatching SMU in the opening round of the College Football Playoff and then coasting to a victory in the Fiesta Bowl against an overmatched Boise State squad, the James Franklin-coached Nittany Lions are now set to play in the Orange Bowl.
The Orange Bowl will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, and will broadcast on ESPN.
Who will Penn State play in the Orange Bowl?
While Penn State’s spot in the Orange Bowl is secure, the Nittany Lions will have to wait until the conclusion of the Allstate Sugar Bowl to find out which team they will face.
The Sugar Bowl, postposed from New Year’s Day due to the fatal terrorist attack in New Orleans, will be played on Jan. 2.
The second-ranked Georgia Bulldogs will take on the seventh-seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the Sugar Bowl, and the winner of that game will face Penn State.
