Bills blockbuster trade proposal would net $94 million star edge rusher
In 2024, the Bills’ defense was atrocious on third down, allowing opponents to convert first downs on 44.54 percent of the time. Only the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers were worse in this category. In the last two postseason games against the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills defense allowed third-down conversion rates of 70 and 55.6 percent, respectively.
To say the Bills need to address this deficiency is an understatement. But how should Bills general manager Brandon Beane go about this? He can look to bolster the defensive line, which was a significant problem throughout the season. The Bills recorded just 39 sacks in 2024 and posted a sack percentage of 6.46, 20th in the league. The Bills ranked 17th in total defense, and more alarming, 24th in pass defense.
Gregory Fisher-Imagn Images There are ways that Beane can attempt to fix the Bills’ defensive line and their pass defense, but Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News, says the Bills should pursue Las Vegas Raiders edge Maxx Crosby, no matter the cost. Skurski writes, “The Bills should go all in this offseason on a trade for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby. Yes, the cost will be steep. Here’s my response to that: So what?”
The 2024 season wasn’t Crosby’s best, recording 7.5 sacks in 12 game, but with 27 sacks over the course of the previous two seasons, Crosby has proven to be one of the premier pass rushers in the league. Oh, and he’s pretty good against the run too, producing 62 tackles for a loss over the last three seasons.
Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images The Bills aren’t in a great salary cap position, but Beane can make a handful of moves that could provide them with more cap room, including releasing Von Miller. They also have the draft capital that would allow them to swing for the fences in a trade of this magnitude.
Jay Biggerstaff-Imagn Images If Beane could pull off a deal like this, it could be exactly what the Bills need. During Thursday’s press conference, Beane said, “One to two plays can change the outcome of a game, which ultimately changes the outcome of the season”. Crosby is the type of player that can give your defense those one or two game-defining plays.
The Buffalo Bills are reportedly exploring a blockbuster trade proposal that could bring a $94 million star edge rusher to their roster. According to sources, the Bills are in talks with a team to acquire the talented pass rusher in exchange for a package of draft picks and players. This potential trade would be a game-changer for the Bills defense, as the addition of a premier edge rusher could elevate their pass rush to new heights. The star player in question is known for his ability to disrupt opposing quarterbacks and create havoc in the backfield.
If the trade goes through, the Bills would be adding a proven playmaker to their defense, giving them a significant boost in their quest for a Super Bowl title. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story as the Bills continue to pursue the star edge rusher.

Source – Pass rusher Khalil Mack decides to play in 2025
Nine-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Khalil Mack, who said after the Chargers‘ postseason loss to the Texans that he needed to take some time to mull his future, will indeed play in the 2025 season, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
Mack, 33, is set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his 11-year NFL career.
Mack, a Defensive Player of the Year winner (2016) and one of the most decorated outside linebackers in NFL history, had six sacks this season — and two more in the Chargers’ 32-12 wild-card loss at Houston.
He has 107.5 sacks in his career.
At their end-of-season news conference, both Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz and coach Jim Harbaugh said they hoped to re-sign Mack if he decided to return for a 12th season in 2025.
Mack had said earlier this month that if he decided to continue playing, he believed his best chance to win was with the Chargers.
“As long as Justin Herbert is your quarterback. You got [safety] Derwin James and all these guys that love the game of football. And Jim Harbaugh coaching?” Mack said on Jan. 12. “You know you always have a chance to win. Yeah, that’s a no-brainer.”
ESPN’s Kris Rhim contributed to this report.
In a surprising turn of events, star pass rusher Khalil Mack has announced that he will be returning to the NFL to play in the 2025 season. After sitting out the 2024 season, Mack has reportedly been training hard and is ready to make his comeback on the field.Sources close to Mack have revealed that he has been working tirelessly to stay in peak physical condition and is determined to prove that he is still one of the best defensive players in the league. Despite speculation that he might retire, Mack has decided that he still has plenty left in the tank and is eager to get back to doing what he does best – terrorizing quarterbacks.
Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating Mack’s return, as he has consistently been one of the most dominant pass rushers in the league throughout his career. With his combination of speed, strength, and football IQ, Mack is sure to make a huge impact on whichever team he decides to sign with for the 2025 season.
Stay tuned for more updates as Khalil Mack’s comeback unfolds and he prepares to make his mark on the NFL once again.

Patriots to waive Pro Bowl pass rusher (report)
They Patriots have decided to waive veteran pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Ngakoue, 29, was claimed in November after he was waived by the Baltimore Ravens.
The former Pro Bowl player was brought in to try and help the defense generate more pressure on the quarterback.
Ngakoue, who has played for seven teams including New England, had five solo tackles, and 1.5 sacks. He registered a roughing the passer penalty in Saturday’s blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
By waiving him, Ngakoue has a chance to join a contending team.
The Patriots are currently last in the league in sacks (28), and sacks per game (1.4).
Defensive end Keion White has spoken recently about change being needed.
“Something gotta change,” White said following Saturday’s loss. “We’re losing, so obviously, we gotta change something. If you keep doing the same thing, you keep losing.
“If you do the same thing over and over again without different results, or changing anything, then you’re going to get the same results.”
The Patriots, 3-13, are set to host the Buffalo Bills in the season finale in Foxborough.

Patriots Reportedly Waive Uninspiring Veteran Pass Rusher
The Patriots made a roster move three days after an embarrassing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, New England waived veteran linebacker Yannick Ngakoue. The Patriots picked up the 29-year-old midseason after the Baltimore Ravens released him. The edge rusher recorded nine tackles and zero sacks in six games.
Ngakoue’s notable play in his final game with the Patriots was a roughing the passer penalty on Justin Herbert. NFL broadcaster Ross Tucker based the ninth-year pass rusher for the blatant penalty and believed it was a selfish play to try to boost his stats for offseason negotiations.
The Pro Bowler failed to earn a pass rush grade over 60, according to Pro Football Focus. He only registered three pressures in his Patriots tenure.
Head coach Jerod Mayo noted New England will go all out to try to beat the Buffalo Bills at Gillette Stadium this Sunday. Ngakoue’s release will open up a roster spot for someone else to try to make an impression in the regular-season finale.

The New England Patriots have reportedly waived veteran pass rusher, Derek Rivers, after a lackluster performance in training camp.Rivers, a former third-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has struggled to make an impact on the Patriots defense since entering the league. Despite flashes of potential early in his career, Rivers has failed to solidify himself as a consistent contributor on the field.
With the Patriots looking to bolster their pass rush heading into the season, it appears they have decided to part ways with Rivers in favor of younger, more promising options.
It remains to be seen where Rivers will land next, but it’s clear that his time in New England has come to an end. As the Patriots continue to make roster moves in preparation for the upcoming season, it will be interesting to see how they address the pass rush position moving forward.

Dolphins allowing ex-Broncos pass rusher to unretire in 2024
The Miami Dolphins have had a change of heart.
A month ago, pass rusher Shaq Barrett announced that he planned to unretire and return to the NFL. Because he signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins earlier this year, Barrett was still under contract with Miami.
In order to return to the NFL, Barrett needed to either be activated to the Dolphins’ 53-man roster or cut so he could join another team. Miami initially choose neither option, blocking Barrett’s return by keeping him on the reserve/retired list.
The Dolphins have now changed their mind and the team will waive Barrett from the waived/retired list today, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The pass rusher will still need a favor from NFL teams in order to play again this season.
If Barrett is claimed off waivers, he won’t be eligible to play until the 2025 season. If he clears waivers, Barrett will be able to sign anywhere as a free agent and play again this season. So Miami’s giving him a chance, but we’ll see if it works out.

Barrett, 32, spent the first five years of his career with the Denver Broncos, winning Super Bowl 50. He later spent five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a second Super Bowl. The veteran pass rusher has 59.0 career sacks on his resume.
In a surprising turn of events, the Miami Dolphins have announced that they will be allowing former Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller to unretire and join their team for the 2024 season.Miller, who retired from the NFL in 2023 after a successful career with the Broncos, has expressed a desire to return to the field and compete at the highest level once again. The Dolphins, who are in need of a veteran presence on their defense, have decided to give Miller the opportunity to prove himself once more.
Fans are buzzing with excitement at the prospect of seeing the seven-time Pro Bowler back in action, and many are hopeful that Miller can make a significant impact for the Dolphins in the upcoming season.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development as Miller prepares to make his comeback with the Dolphins in 2024.
