Luka Garza continues to be Timberwolves’ secret weapon in Utah
Then when Alexander-Walker came to the Wolves in the Russell trade, he wasn’t playing much, and he was at a precarious point in his career where he might have been out of the league the following season. But when he got more playing time with injuries to Reid and Jaden McDaniels late in the season, he played well and got a new contract.
“Those examples in front of me are inspiring and motivating,” Garza said. “I feel like I’m in that spot where I can do that as well for myself. I’ve made it my identity to always be ready when my name is called.”
The organization has always loved Garza’s professionalism and his work ethic. It’s why he has worked his way up from training camp invite, to edge-of-roster player, to a two-way contract and most recently, to a full NBA contract. Coach Chris Finch had plenty to say about Garza’s approach after Thursday’s win.
“He’s one of my most favorite players I’ve ever coached, for so many reasons,” Finch said. “He’s stayed always ready. Always in a great mood and been an unbelievable example for all the other young guys. Every time we put him in, he produces. Silly me, I probably should play him more, but with the number of bigs and the way we’ve had the roster constructed over the last couple of years, it’s not easy to do, but he’s always, always ready.”
Garza has stayed with the organization because he felt a good fit among him, Finch’s style of play and the culture Finch and the front office established.
“I feel like I fit perfectly into what [Finch] is trying to do,” Garza said. “He does a really good job of putting me in the right spots, and all my teammates have so much confidence in me. That’s the thing that keeps me going when I’m not playing … Mike, Ant, Donte are coming to talk to me, to stay ready, and I’m bought in to help this team in whatever way I can.”
Luka Garza continues to be Timberwolves’ secret weapon in UtahThe Minnesota Timberwolves have found a hidden gem in rookie center Luka Garza. Despite going undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Garza has quickly made a name for himself with his strong play on both ends of the court.
In a recent matchup against the Utah Jazz, Garza once again proved to be a valuable asset for the Timberwolves. He showcased his scoring prowess with 15 points and 8 rebounds in just 20 minutes of play. Garza’s ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting has been a valuable addition to the Timberwolves’ offense.
But it’s not just Garza’s scoring that has impressed his teammates and coaches. His hustle on defense and willingness to crash the boards have made him a key contributor on the defensive end as well. Garza’s work ethic and determination have quickly earned him the respect of his teammates and coaching staff.
As the Timberwolves continue to push for a playoff spot in the competitive Western Conference, Luka Garza’s emergence as a secret weapon could prove to be a game-changer. With his versatile skill set and strong work ethic, Garza has the potential to make a significant impact for the Timberwolves down the stretch. Keep an eye on this rising star as he continues to shine in Utah and beyond.

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) – An unloaded weapon was found in a student’s backpack at Pat Carney Elementary School Wednesday, according to a letter sent to parents.
“At no time were students or staff in danger, and there was no intent to cause harm,” Pat Carney Elementary School Principal Paige Gawryszewski said in the letter.

Miguel Almiron was Newcastle’s lethal weapon – no matter what Jack Grealish said
Miguel Almiron may have played his last game in a Newcastle United jersey – Getty Images/Eddie Keogh As Miguel Almiron prepares to say goodbye to Newcastle United, it is the right time to pay tribute to a player who may not have been the best winger to have worn the black and white stripes, but none have worked harder or cared more.
This matters more than the modern fan ever seems willing to accept. At least in the divisive world of social media, where it is more common for a player’s shortcomings to be chastised than his qualities lauded.
Almiron had his limitations, especially as a left-footed right winger, who could not cross the ball with his weaker foot. He did not score enough goals, or deliver enough assists, to be considered an elite Premier League winger, but he had pace and stamina and never gave anything less than everything.
As strange as it may sound, that is a rare and precious thing. A player who simply loved playing. A Paraguayan, whose command of the English language has never been more than basic, despite arriving six years ago, who instinctively understood what being a Newcastle player, at its essence, is all about.
Like everyone, I have occasionally moaned and groaned during a game about Almiron. For example, that time against AC Milan, when he tried to tap home with his left foot when he should have gone with his right, allowing the defender to clear.
Or the promising attacking positions wasted, when he chose to cut back on to his left as he did not trust the quality of his right, and the chances missed with weak shots straight at the goalkeeper, but for £21 million – a club-record fee when Rafael Benítez signed him in January 2019 – Almiron still represented fantastic value for money.
Rafael Benitez signed Almiron in January 2019 – Serena Taylor The 30-year-old once brought so much energy to the team, putting in a defensive shift as well as an attacking one.
He was not only a crucial component of the side who avoided relegation for three years under Benítez and Steve Bruce, he was superb under Eddie Howe for two years. Without him, Newcastle would not have qualified for the Champions League in 2023.
We are constantly told that all Newcastle fans demand is a player who tries, who wears the shirt with the same pride; soaks it in sweat and cares as deeply about the team as they would do. “Wor Miggy” did all of those things and combined them with an infectious smile that made him impossible to dislike, even when he made mistakes.
You will not hear a bad word said about Almiron from team-mates or staff. He was adored behind the scenes.
He did not have a bad or spiteful word for anyone. He never shirked or complained – even this season when it became clear, having rejected a move to Saudi Arabia last summer, that he was no longer part of Howe’s first-team plans.
His manager has described him as a “model professional” and, throughout their time together, he has always commented on his virtues rather than sniped at his drawbacks.
Newcastle could not have coped without Almiron when Howe first arrived. Kieran Trippier loved playing with him when he was at right-back, because he knew Almiron would always gallop back to help him.
Kieran Trippier (left) appreciated playing with Almiron for his selfless tracking back on his flank – Getty Images/George Wood It was Howe who unleashed Almiron’s full potential. He was a willing and reliable workhorse under his two previous managers, arriving from Atlanta United in January 2019, but Howe turned him into a lethal weapon in the 2022-23 campaign.
Signed as a peace offering by former owner Mike Ashley to, unsuccessfully, pacify a combative and disgruntled Benítez, Almiron was better than any of the wingers already at the club.
With Allan Saint-Maximin on the left and Almiron on the right, Newcastle had a decent pair on the flanks under his successor Bruce. Saint-Maximin won games for Newcastle with his skill and flair, but Almiron’s less eye-catching role was just as important to the overall balance of the team. Saint-Maximin rarely tracked back, Almiron would do so all game.
Who could forget the noise and celebrations when Almiron scored his first goal for Newcastle, a late winner against Crystal Palace in his second season at the club? Or the two he scored away from home against West Bromwich Albion in the FA Cup when Bruce was under pressure.
However, it was Howe who took his game to another level in 2022. For 18 months or so, Almiron was magnificent.
Insulted the previous summer by Jack Grealish, who had mocked his Manchester City team-mate Riyan Mahrez by saying his performance was so bad “he had played like Almiron” during their title-winning party celebrations, Almiron responded in kind.
Newcastle fans made light of Jack Grealish’s comments about their favouriye Paraguayan – PA/Owen Humphreys He scored in a dramatic 3-3 draw with City in August, and another two away to Fulham, which included a goal-of-the-season contender, a dipping volley from an acute angle that brought back memories of Paolo Di Canio’s famous strike for West Ham.
He scored 11 goals that season and formed a lethal partnership down Newcastle’s right flank with Trippier. Indeed, most of Newcastle’s football was played down that side of the pitch, so effective were they at hurting sides.
Almiron did miss Newcastle’s best chance of the game in the League Cup final defeat by Manchester United that season, but he was an integral part of the best Newcastle side for more than 20 years. People need to remember and, more importantly, respect him for it.
Just as nobody will ever forget the goal he scored against Paris St-Germain, the crucial first in Newcastle’s first Champions League game for two decades, which began a 4-1 thrashing of the French champions. That alone should be enough to ensure Almiron is celebrated whenever he returns to Tyneside.
Almirón scored an unforgettable goal in Newcastle’s thrashing of Paris St-Germain – Getty Images/Robbie Jay Barratt Almiron’s time at Newcastle is at an end; he is heading back to Atlanta. He is older and the club are evolving. There are better players in his position out there who Newcastle intend to sign in the summer.
But if ever a player has deserved a standing ovation at Southampton last weekend, flanked by his team-mates, shoved to the front by Howe, to hear his name being chanted, over and over again, it is “Wor Miggy”. “La la, la, la, la, la, la, la Miggy Almiron, Almiron, Miggy Almiron…”
The defence may never have been terrified or, indeed, on fire, but Newcastle won the games they did, under three different managers, because they had him in their side. He is not just a long-serving player, he has been, without question, a successful one too.
Newcastle United fans have always known the importance of Miguel Almiron to their team, but after Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish made some controversial comments about the Paraguayan midfielder, it’s time to set the record straight.Almiron has been a key player for Newcastle since his arrival in 2019, bringing pace, skill, and creativity to the Magpies’ attack. Despite struggling to find his scoring touch in his early days at St James’ Park, Almiron has shown his quality time and time again, becoming a fan favorite in the process.
But when Grealish recently claimed that Almiron was not a threat to Aston Villa, Newcastle fans were quick to defend their man. And with good reason – Almiron has been a vital component of Newcastle’s attack, providing crucial goals and assists when needed most.
Whether it’s his lightning-fast pace, his quick footwork, or his eye for a killer pass, Almiron has proven time and time again that he is a lethal weapon for Newcastle. And no matter what Grealish may say, the stats don’t lie – Almiron has been a key player for the Magpies, and will continue to be a crucial part of their success in the future.
So next time Grealish tries to downplay Almiron’s impact, Newcastle fans can rest easy knowing that their lethal weapon will continue to deliver on the pitch, no matter what the critics may say. Miguel Almiron is a force to be reckoned with, and he will continue to shine for Newcastle United.

OKC Thunder’s Secret Weapon Unveiled: Holmgren’s Hidden Potential
The trade deadline frenzy has engulfed the Oklahoma City Thunder, with numerous rumors swirling around potential acquisitions. However, amidst the speculations and anticipations, the Thunder’s most significant asset might not come from external trades but rather from within their own ranks, specifically in the form of the sidelined forward, Chet Holmgren.
A Rising Star in Recovery
Chet Holmgren, the promising forward sidelined due to a pelvic fracture injury after participating in just 10 games earlier in the season, is on the path to recovery. His imminent return could prove to be the game-changer for the Thunder, potentially overshadowing any trade deadline acquisitions. Holmgren’s on-court performance before his injury showcased his versatility, averaging 16.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game, along with impressive shooting percentages.
Weathering the Storm: Adapting Without Holmgren
During Holmgren’s absence, the Thunder adapted their gameplay, utilizing a small-ball lineup effectively. The team coped with injuries to key players like Isaiah Hartenstein, showcasing their resilience and versatility on the court. Despite the challenges posed by injuries throughout the season, the Thunder maintained an impressive 37-8 record, leading the NBA standings.
Reintegrating Holmgren: A Strategic Move
As the Thunder gear up for Holmgren’s return, the team faces the challenge of readjusting their dynamics to accommodate his playing style. The successful integration of Hartenstein into the starting lineup provides a blueprint for incorporating Holmgren seamlessly back into the team structure. While an adjustment period is expected upon his return, the Thunder’s adaptability and cohesion bode well for a smooth transition.
Holmgren’s Impact: Elevating the Title Aspirations
The impending return of Holmgren holds significant promise for the Thunder’s championship ambitions. Coupled with the stellar performance of key players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is making a strong case for the MVP title, Holmgren’s unique skill set as a versatile forward with exceptional defensive capabilities is poised to bolster the team’s postseason prospects. His floor-spacing prowess and defensive acumen add a new dimension to the Thunder’s gameplay, enhancing their chances for a deep playoff run.
In conclusion, while trade rumors continue to swirl around the Thunder, the real game-changer lies within their roster. Holmgren’s return signifies a strategic advantage that could propel the team towards playoff success. As the Thunder harness their internal talent and fortify their lineup, the stage is set for a compelling journey towards NBA glory.
The OKC Thunder’s Secret Weapon for the Title Chase: Uncovered on the BenchAs the NBA trade deadline looms, many teams are scrambling to make last-minute moves in order to bolster their rosters for a championship run. However, for the OKC Thunder, their key to success may not lie in a blockbuster trade, but rather in a hidden gem sitting on the bench.
Throughout the season, the Thunder have struggled with consistency and finding their rhythm on the court. But amidst the ups and downs, there is one player who has quietly been biding his time, waiting for his moment to shine.
That player is none other than Hamidou Diallo. The young guard has shown flashes of brilliance in limited minutes, displaying his explosive athleticism and scoring ability. But due to a crowded backcourt rotation, Diallo has often found himself relegated to the end of the bench.
However, as the Thunder gear up for a playoff push, it may be time for Diallo to step into a larger role. His energy, defensive prowess, and ability to create his own shot could provide the spark that the team needs to make a deep postseason run.
While other teams may be focused on making splashy trades, the Thunder may have already found their secret weapon hidden in plain sight. Keep an eye on Hamidou Diallo as he looks to make a significant impact in the title chase.

Patrick Mahomes is gearing up for a big game against the Buffalo Bills for the conference title. He’ll have nearly all of his teammates healthy and ready, but he’ll also have an extra weapon recently announced as available for this crucial matchup, where the Kansas City Chiefs are fighting for a spot in another Super Bowl.
According to information shared by Air Meirov, Mahomes’ extra weapon will be wide receiver Justyn Ross, who will be elevated to the active roster. As a result, Ross will be another option for the Chiefs to make plays against the Bills’ dangerous defense.
In the 2024 season, Justyn Ross didn’t catch a single pass despite making two appearances on the Chiefs’ roster. However, during 2023, he had a slightly more prominent role, appearing in 10 games and catching 6 of 11 passes for a total of 53 yards. Ross has yet to score a touchdown with the Chiefs.
The Chiefs are expected to have no significant absences in the receivers room for the AFC Championship game. According to the injury report, the franchise did not list any players as injured or in a questionable status ahead of the matchup against the Bills, which came as a surprise to many.
Top Receivers Available for Mahomes Against the Bills
Xavier Worthy will be Mahomes’ main weapon in the Chiefs’ offense. With 6 touchdowns and 59 receptions this season, Worthy is one of Mahomes’ most reliable targets. Tight end Travis Kelce, who often operates as a receiver, has also been instrumental this season, with 97 receptions.

Chiefs’ Offense Not the Most Powerful in the AFC
Making it to the AFC Championship game is a significant achievement for the Chiefs, especially considering they aren’t the most explosive offense. Currently, they rank 15th out of 32 teams, averaging 22.6 points per game. In contrast, the Bills boast the second-highest and most lethal offense in the league, averaging 30.9 points per game.
In a highly anticipated matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have an extra weapon at his disposal. The Chiefs recently acquired wide receiver Josh Gordon, adding even more firepower to their already explosive offense. Gordon, a talented and physical receiver, has the potential to make a significant impact in Sunday’s game against the Bills.
With Mahomes leading the charge and now having Gordon as another reliable target, the Chiefs offense looks even more dangerous. This news has surely caught the attention of football fans everywhere, as they eagerly anticipate seeing how this new addition will affect the outcome of the game.
Be sure to tune in to the Chiefs vs Bills matchup to see how Mahomes and Gordon work together to take on one of the top teams in the AFC. It’s sure to be an exciting game with plenty of offensive fireworks.

AI weapon detection system at Antioch High School failed to detect gun in Nashville shooting
An artificial intelligence-powered weapon detection system failed to pick up the handgun a 17-year-old Nashville, Tennessee, student used in a school shooting Wednesday that killed a 16-year-old girl, officials said.
The software, called Omnilert, failed to detect the gun because of where cameras were in Antioch High School, Metro Nashville Public Schools spokesperson Sean Braisted said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
But the system was activated by police brandishing their weapons during the response to the shooting, Braisted said.
Omnilert connects to the school’s existing network of cameras and uses AI technology to detect weapons, he said, but “in this instance, based on the shooter’s location in proximity to the cameras, it wasn’t close enough to get an accurate read and to activate that alarm.”
Kristi Rainwater kneels in prayer Thursday at Antioch High School.George Walker IV / AP “The location of the shooter and the firearm meant that the weapon was not visible,” said Omnilert CEO Dave Fraser in an email. “This is not a case of the firearm not being recognized by the system.”
Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Adrienne Battle said, “There is not one system that is 100% going to capture everything that a person may have on them.”
Omnilert works by turning security cameras “into life-saving tools, protecting lives while reducing the operational, legal, and social costs of gun violence,” its website says. It helps detect firearms and then triggers immediate alerts.
“These are designed to capture things that are on camera, and so we wanted to have a system that worked on multiple cameras throughout the network. It does work, but it’s not going to work in every instance, in every spot, based on where that weapon might be visible,” Braisted said. “So that’s why we have additional safety and security protocols.”
In addition to Omnilert, the school uses AI systems at the front door, it has security vestibules, and it uses school resource officers.
“It all works together as a system, but one system alone is not going to keep people safe,” Braisted said. “And there’s also just the general public concerns around how a 17-year-old has a weapon.
“I mean, these are questions that are beyond the scope of Metro Schools but need to be addressed by the broader community,” he said. “But we are doing what we can as a district to install and equip our schools with the safety protocols and resources that we can use to be safe.”
The missed detection offers a lesson in the shortcomings of high-tech security solutions — and the risk of relying on them, experts said.
“This highlights the challenges school districts face,” said Donald Maye, head of operations at IPVM, a surveillance technology research company that investigates weapon-detection systems.
“They’ll make these announcements that they’ve invested millions on a solution and then there are still many cases that can occur where the system is not going to be a factor in preventing violence,” Maye said.
Amy Klinger, director of programs for the nonprofit Educator’s School Safety Network, said the most effective safeguards against violence are based on building trust among students, teachers and administrators to share early signs of potential threats — like erratic behavior or troubling social media posts.
“In the vast majority of cases there is something of concern — behaviors, disclosures, conversations, warning signs — that if someone is paying attention you could pick up on,” Klinger said. “If you combine that with technology, great. But you can’t replace it with technology.”
Some have questioned why the school did not use metal detectors. Battle told reporters Thursday that research has shown there are pros and cons to using the detectors.
“There are lots of unintended consequences, mainly when you think about the types of learning environments we want for our students. I mean, the first person we want our students to interact with are their principals and their teachers and their fellow students,” she said.
A motive in the shooting is unclear. Nashville Police Chief John Drake said authorities are looking into “some materials on the internet” believed to be from the shooter, who was identified as Solomon Henderson. He shot and killed himself after the attack.
Authorities said Henderson was an active student. They said he took the school bus before he later opened fire in the cafeteria, killing Josselin Corea Escalante. Another student was wounded when he was grazed in the arm.
Recently, there was a tragic shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee where a student was injured. The school had implemented an AI weapon detection system to help prevent such incidents, but unfortunately, it failed to detect the gun in this instance. This failure highlights the limitations of relying solely on technology to keep students safe. While AI can be a valuable tool in enhancing security measures, it is not foolproof and should not be seen as a substitute for proper training, vigilance, and proactive measures.
It is crucial for schools to have a comprehensive approach to safety that includes regular drills, mental health support for students, and a strong relationship with law enforcement. While technology can play a role in this, it is important to remember that it is just one piece of the puzzle.
Our thoughts are with the victim of the shooting and their loved ones, and we hope that this incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ongoing efforts to improve school safety.

#weapon #detection #system #Antioch #High #School #failed #detect #gun #Nashville #shootingTrump Just Handed Steve Bannon a Big Weapon in His War With Elon Musk
The battle could put other MAGA leaders in a tough spot. The New York Times reports that top Trump adviser Stephen Miller recently told tech oligarch Mark Zuckerberg that he’d better get on board with the Trump agenda, and that Zuckerberg meekly agreed. However, although die-hard nativist Miller opposes H-1B visas, the Times reports that he’s refraining from talking Trump out of supporting them. If Bannon picks up this banner, it could make Miller’s position look awkward—or, dare we say it, positively “globalist” and even cuck-ish.
The bottom line is that the Bannon-Musk battle represents a genuine, deep tension inside the MAGA coalition. Though Musk pushes anti-immigrant social media memes to excite MAGA incels, he and many tech executives really seem to believe dynamic, entrepreneurial outside talent benefits the country—along with their bottom lines, of course.
Many opponents of H-1B visas also operate from a genuinely held worldview. In their reading, they allow globalist corporate oligarchs to hire foreign workers more cheaply, which, critically, relieves society (or the state) of any obligation to better equip Americans to fill such rewarding roles. Bannon recently argued that anger over that national failing helped fuel the rise of Trump.
In a surprising turn of events, President Trump has just handed former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon a major weapon in his ongoing war with Tesla CEO Elon Musk.Trump recently signed an executive order aimed at boosting domestic production of critical minerals, which are essential for the manufacturing of electric vehicles and other high-tech products. This move is widely seen as a direct challenge to Musk and his company, as Tesla relies heavily on these minerals for its electric vehicle batteries.
Bannon, a vocal critic of Musk and his business practices, has long accused the billionaire entrepreneur of being too cozy with China and other foreign powers. With Trump’s executive order, Bannon now has a powerful tool to use against Musk, as he can argue that Tesla’s reliance on foreign sources for critical minerals makes it a national security risk.
The stage is now set for a heated battle between Bannon and Musk, with the future of Tesla and the electric vehicle industry hanging in the balance. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
