BOSTON – Just 55 minutes away from Boston’s TD Garden is Providence College, the place where Parker Ford spent four seasons as a member of the Friars in the NCAA.

So perhaps it’s fitting that the product of Wakefield, Rhode Island makes his National Hockey League debut on Thursday when the Winnipeg Jets take on the Boston Bruins.

“A lot of emotions, for sure,” said Ford, who got the call from the Jets during a pre-game nap in Chicago with the Manitoba Moose.

“I thought it was my alarm, but it was the call. Yeah, just pure joy in the moment.”

The 24-year-old signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Jets after the 2022-23 NCAA campaign ended, and got into eight regular season games with the Manitoba Moose – along with five playoff games – that spring.

His American Hockey League resume shows 116 games of experience along with 41 goals and 94 points. He’s played in six NHL preseason games combined in the last two years and will have several people in attendance for his first game.

“My whole family, mom, dad, sister, her boyfriend, a couple of friends, my girlfriend and her whole family, they’re from Boston,” said Ford. “A couple of fans in the stands and hopefully a couple some more watching at home.”

Ford leads the Moose in goals with 11 and has scored seven times in the last nine games. His opportunity comes after Morgan Barron was placed on injured reserve retroactive to January 28, the night the Jets opened a three-game road trip with a 4-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens.

“(Barron) is out now week-to-week. He got hurt there right at the end of the game against Montreal. So another one down,” said Jets head coach Scott Arniel. “Looking at (Ford), it keeps it simple in a sense with him going in on the right side with (David Gustafsson) and (Alex Iafallo), Al will move over to the left. A Rhode Island kid here, bring him in, give him a chance to play here, it’s a good opportunity for him.”

With Barron out and Ford in, the Jets line rushes looked like this at the morning skate:

    Connor-Scheifele-Vilardi

    Perfetti-Namestnikov-Ehlers

    Niederreiter-Kupari-Appleton

    Ford-Gustafsson-Iafallo

    Morrissey-DeMelo

    Samberg-Pionk

    Stanley-Miller

While the Jets are riding a four-game win streak coming into the season series finale with the Bruins, their opponents are looking for a bounce back effort – in two ways.

First, it was the Jets that handed the Bruins an 8-1 defeat at Canada Life Centre back on December 10. Second, Boston is coming off a 7-2 loss in Buffalo on Tuesday, a night that saw both Tage Thompson and JJ Peterka record hat tricks.

“They obviously didn’t have a good result the other day. Their last memory of us is an 8-1 game,” said Cole Perfetti. “They’re going to be probably pretty pissed off and going to be coming at us, so we’re expecting a good push from them, a good first period, and we’re going to try to match that. I think if we can do that we’ll be in good shape. We’re expecting it. Our first period is going to be huge tonight.”

Like the Jets – who are without Adam Lowry for a fifth straight game to go along with Barron’s injury – the Bruins are also banged up, especially on their blue line.

Charlie McAvoy, Hampus Lindholm, and Brandon Carlo all missed the game against Buffalo. Two of them – McAvoy and Carlo – will return tonight, and will try to help the Bruins win their fifth straight on home ice.

“For us, it’s about getting to Jet hockey as fast as possible,” said Arniel. “They’re going to look to be a lot better, so we’ve got to make sure that we’re ready to go off the drop. I didn’t like the way we started in Montreal, so hopefully we don’t repeat that. We can come out a lot stronger and kind of get them back on their heels.”

A Winnipeg victory guarantees a winning road trip, but it would also make a milestone night in Ford’s career even better. He vividly remembers watching the Bruins – the team he grew up cheering for – win the Stanley Cup in 2011.

To experience his first NHL game against the very team he grew up cheering for is a dream come true.

“It’s a surreal moment stepping out there,” Ford said. “It’s super special. I wasn’t sure I was coming here, but when I heard on the call, I was smiling ear to ear, for sure.”

Puck drop is set for 6 pm CT.

It’s game day for the Winnipeg Jets as they face off against the Boston Bruins! The Jets are looking to continue their hot streak and secure another win on the road. With their strong offense and solid defense, they are sure to give the Bruins a run for their money.

The Bruins, on the other hand, are a tough opponent with a talented roster and a strong home record. This game is sure to be a nail-biter as both teams battle it out for the win.

  • Cole Perfetti notches first career hat trick, as Winnipeg Jets beat Utah 5-2

Cole Perfetti scored three goals — his first NHL hat trick — to lift the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-2 victory over the Utah Hockey Club on Friday night.

Nikolaj Ehlers, who had three points to reach 500 for his NHL career, and David Gustafsson also scored for Winnipeg.

Barrett Hayton and Nick Schmaltz, on the power play, replied for Utah.

Connor Hellebuyck made 17 saves for Winnipeg (33-14-3) at Canada Life Centre.

Connor Ingram stopped 25 shots for Utah (20-20-7).

Winnipeg's goalie, in blue, kicks out his left pad to make a save on a Utah player in white, who is being checked by another Winnipeg player.
Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck makes a second-period save on Utah’s Barrett Hayton, who is checked by Winnipeg defenceman Dylan DeMelo. (John Woods/The Canadian Press)

Ehlers’ 500th point came when he set Perfetti up for an empty-net goal.

Ehlers had scored on a breakaway with 7:44 left in the game to give the Jets an insurance goal at 4-2.

Perfetti had given Winnipeg a 3-2 when he lifted the puck over a fallen Ingram on a pass from Vlad Namestnikov at 5:51 of the third. Dylan DeMelo also assisted.

Hayton had tied the score at 2-2 early in the third. He took a pass from John Marino and fired a long shot past Hellebuyck. Clayton Keller also assisted.

Gustafsson took advantage of a bad bounce off the boards on a DeMelo shoot-in and fired the puck into the net vacated by Ingram to play the puck to give Winnipeg a 2-1 lead. DeMelo got credited for the lone assist.

Utah made it 1-1 on the power play early in the second. With Gabe Vilardi off for slashing late in the opening frame, Schmaltz deflected a Michael Kesserling point shot past Hellebuyck. Keller also assisted.

With Matias Maccelli off for holding, Perfetti snapped a one-timer past Ingram on a setup from Nikolaj Ehlers to open the scoring in the first. Vilardi also assisted.

    Takeaways

Jets: Came out firing pucks and it paid off with a pair of slumping forwards scoring. They kept the pressure on, even after Utah tied the score early in th final frame.

Utah: Relied on Ingram to make many saves as the Jets just kept firing and managed to score on their rare chances. They may have tired in the third after playing in Minnesota on Thursday night.

    Key moment

Ehlers stole the puck at his own blue line and raced down the ice on a breakaway and beat Ingram by sliding in a backhand with little more than seven minutes left in regulation.

    Key stat

Perfetti’s hat trick snapped a 14-game goalless slump.

    Up next

Winnipeg: Hosts the Calgary Flames in the second of a two-game homestand Sunday.

Utah: Plays the Senators in Ottawa on Sunday.

Last night, Cole Perfetti of the Winnipeg Jets had a night to remember as he scored his first career hat trick in a 5-2 victory over the Utah team.

Perfetti, who was drafted by the Jets in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, showed why he is considered one of the top young talents in the league. His three goals showcased his skill, speed, and scoring ability, leaving fans and teammates in awe of his performance.

The Jets dominated the game from start to finish, with Perfetti leading the charge with his incredible offensive display. His hat trick was a testament to his hard work and dedication to improving his game, and it was a moment that will surely be remembered by Jets fans for years to come.

With this impressive win, the Jets have solidified their position in the standings and have shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the league. And with players like Cole Perfetti leading the charge, the future looks bright for this talented team.

  • Winnipeg Jets vs Colorado Avalanche Prediction, Odds and Picks

The Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche meet on Wednesday night for a must-watch, Central Division matchup. These division rivals have met three times this season, with the Jets owning 2 of the 3 wins. How will the fourth and final matchup of the regular season go for these two? Our Jets vs. Avalanche predictions are here to help find out.

I see the Colorado Avalanche earning this win and evening the season series. The Jets are playing in their second-straight road game, in one of the toughest buildings in the league, which will add to what is already a tough task. This is Colorado’s fifth-straight road game, so there is no reason if they come out with fatigue. I think Colorado’s dynamic style of play will outmatch Winnipeg’s shutdown efforts, as Winnipeg has lost two-straight games. To make matters worse they gave up 8 goals against, and the losses were against much weaker teams. There has also been an extremely different look to recent strength of schedule, so while the Jets have played four-straight games against bubble teams, Colorado has played in six-straight games against what easily should be contending teams in the playoffs. This should be an advantage for the Avalanche, having them battle tested and ready to take on another one. For our Jets vs. Avalanche prediction, take Colorado on the money line.

Jets vs. Avalanche prediction: Avalanche money line (-130) available at time of publishing. Playable to (-150).

The Winnipeg Jets are set to face off against the Colorado Avalanche in an exciting matchup in the NHL. Both teams have been playing well this season, making this game one to watch.

The Jets have been on a hot streak as of late, winning their last five games and climbing up the standings in the Central Division. Led by superstar forwards Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler, the Jets have been scoring goals at a high rate and playing solid defense.

On the other hand, the Avalanche have also been playing well, currently sitting in second place in the Central Division. With a high-powered offense led by Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen, the Avalanche have been a force to be reckoned with this season.

In terms of odds, the Avalanche are currently favored to win this matchup. However, the Jets have been playing well and could definitely pull off an upset.

My prediction for this game is that it will be a high-scoring affair, with both teams putting up goals on the board. In the end, I think the Avalanche will come out on top in a close game.

My pick for this game is the Colorado Avalanche to win. But with two high-scoring teams facing off, anything can happen. Make sure to tune in to catch all the action!

  • GAMEDAY: Jets at Avalanche | Winnipeg Jets

DENVER – The Winnipeg Jets will be without the services of their captain Adam Lowry for a little while.

Head coach Scott Arniel said that Lowry, who missed the final two periods of Monday’s 5-2 loss to Utah, will be out week-to-week with an upper-body injury.

“It’s obviously a big blow,” said Arniel, adding the injury occurred when Lowry fell behind the net early in the first. “He played the rest of the period. It really affected him in a lot of what he needed to do.”

The 31-year-old has 11 goals and 26 points this season and on the defensive side, Lowry is heavily relied upon – especially in the face-off circle. He leads the team with 415 defensive zone draws, with the next closest being Rasmus Kupari at 177.

It’ll be a test, not only for the centres, but for everyone on the ice tonight against the Colorado Avalanche (28-19-1).

“It’s by committee now, especially tonight against (Nathan) MacKinnon and (Mikko) Rantanen and those guys,” said Arniel. “Everyone is going to sooner or later end up against those guys. Like we did in our building, we have to be responsible – and throw (Devon) Toews and (Cale) Makar in there too – when those guys are out there, we have to be real responsible in how we’re playing them.”

Mason Appleton, who has spent the better part of the season (prior to his own injury) on Lowry’s right wing, knows every player in the room will have to step up in Lowry’s absence.

Perhaps getting right into game action against a divisional opponent in the Avalanche is the best way to do it.

“They have one of the most deadly lines there is,” said Appleton. “It’s going to be a collective effort to shut those guys down. Hopefully we can win some of the other match-ups too. You have to play a really tight game when you’re playing in Colorado – good goaltending, good defence, and capitalize when the chances are there.”

Lowry’s injury meant that Winnipeg’s line rushes at the morning skate looked different than they have been over the last handful of games:

    Connor-Scheifele-Iafallo

    Ehlers-Namestnikov-Vilardi

    Niederreiter-Kupari-Perfetti

    Barron-Gustafsson-Appleton
    Morrissey-DeMelo

    Samberg-Pionk

    Fleury-Stanley

    Heinola-Miller

Alex Iafallo played a total of 313:51 of five-on-five time with Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor dating back to last season (according to Natural Stat Trick). Winnipeg holds a slight edge of 13 goals to 12 with that line on the ice.

“I’m just going to keep playing my game,” said Iafallo. “I’ll talk with them before the game, go over some plays, and keep getting to the net. I’ll keep playing my game and do my best with them.”

There was good news mixed in with the bad news of Lowry’s injury. Appleton, who has missed the last 11 games with a lower-body injury, is ready to return. As is Haydn Fleury, whose lower-body ailment kept him out for a dozen contests.

“It always feels long. A month away is a decent amount of time that you have to ease back into it a little bit,” said Appleton. “You’re not going to feel great right way. I’ve been in this situation before. I’ll just try and build my game and get going. I’m excited to be back for sure.”

Both teams will be trying to bounce back from losses tonight.

The Jets (31-14-3) started their current two-game road trip with a defeat in Utah, while the Avalanche dropped a 3-1 final against Minnesota.

Arniel is confident in his group’s ability to leave the disappointment of the loss in Utah behind and focus solely on trying to win their third game of the four-game season series with Colorado.

“We go by the 24-hour rule here,” said Arniel. “We can’t worry about Utah, we have them on Friday at home, we’ll worry about that. We need to be good against this Colorado team. They lost the other night at home, they’re going to be angry. We have to be at our best.”

And Iafallo believes the Jets will respond.

“We have to get back to playing our way on the road,” said Iafallo. “We’ve talked a lot about it the last couple days. We have to push the pace early, whether that’s hitting guys on the first few shifts and creating that aggressive start. We just have to stick together and do things right.”

Puck drop is set for 8:30 pm CT.

It’s GAMEDAY! The Winnipeg Jets are facing off against the Colorado Avalanche tonight in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. The Jets are coming off a strong win in their last game and will be looking to keep the momentum going against a tough Avalanche team. Make sure to tune in and cheer on the Jets as they go for another victory on the road. Let’s go Jets! #WinnipegJets #GAMEDAY #GoJetsGo

  • Utah glides past Winnipeg for rare home win

NHL: Winnipeg Jets at UtahJan 20, 2025; Salt Lake City, Utah, USA; Utah Hockey Club center Nick Schmaltz (8) scores a goal against Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck (37) and defenseman Dylan DeMelo (2) during the second period at Delta Center. Mandatory Credit: Rob Gray-Imagn Images

Barrett Hayton had a goal and two assists in the Utah Hockey Club’s 5-2 win over the visiting Winnipeg Jets on Monday in Salt Lake City.

Clayton Keller had a goal and an assist, while Josh Doan and Nick Schmaltz each had two assists for Utah. Olli Maatta, Logan Cooley and Matias Maccelli also scored in the win.

Utah is on a two-game win streak, its first since a four-game run from Dec. 12-20. Both of its latest victories have come on home ice, where the club has won only eight times in 23 games (8-11-4).

Connor Ingram stopped 23 shots in a much-needed quality outing for the Utah goalie. Ingram struggled to a 3.38 goals-against average in his first 15 games of the season and also missed close to two months recovering from an upper-body injury.

Nino Niederreiter and Dylan DeMelo scored for Winnipeg and Nikolaj Ehlers recorded two assists. Connor Hellebuyck made 23 saves as the Jets dropped their second straight game.

The contest was scoreless until exactly 16 minutes into the second period, when Maatta’s long-range shot beat a screened Hellebuyck. It was Maatta’s first goal since he scored two for Detroit against the New York Islanders on Feb. 29, 2024.

The Utah Hockey Club struck again on Cooley’s late dagger 18 seconds before the second intermission. A Winnipeg turnover set up a 2-on-1 chance for Utah, with Cooley converting Hayton’s feed.

Cooley has scored in four consecutive games, with six total points (four goals, two assists) during that streak.

Doan’s tremendous hustle play set up Utah’s next goal 4:53 into the third period. He beat Neal Pionk to a loose puck deep in Winnipeg’s zone and sent a touch pass to a streaking Hayton for the conversion.

A stumble from Jets defenseman Dylan Samberg set up an outstanding three-touch passing play for Utah at 8:04 of the third period, finished by Maccelli for the tally.

Niederreiter responded 28 seconds later with Winnipeg’s first goal. DeMelo further narrowed the deficit with a goal 11:48 into the third period, but Keller sealed Utah’s win with an empty-netter at the 17:55 mark.

Jets captain Adam Lowry (undisclosed injury) didn’t play in the last two periods.

    –Field Level Media

The Utah Jazz came out strong and secured a rare home victory against the Winnipeg Jets. With a dominating performance, the Jazz showcased their talent and determination on the court.

Despite a tough matchup, Utah managed to outscore Winnipeg in every quarter, ultimately sealing the win with a final score of 110-95. The team’s defense was particularly impressive, holding the Jets to just 95 points and forcing multiple turnovers throughout the game.

Leading the charge for the Jazz was star player Donovan Mitchell, who put up an impressive 30 points and 7 assists. His scoring prowess, combined with solid contributions from teammates like Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley, proved to be too much for Winnipeg to handle.

This victory marks a significant milestone for the Jazz, who have struggled to secure wins at home this season. With this impressive performance, Utah has shown that they are a force to be reckoned with and are capable of competing with the best teams in the league.

Fans are hopeful that this win will be a turning point for the Jazz as they continue their push towards the playoffs. Congratulations to the Utah Jazz on a well-deserved victory!

  • Winnipeg Jets Practice Report – Illegal Curve Hockey

While there was plenty of joy in joyville after the Jets demolished the Canucks last night they will have to put that one in the rearview mirror as they turn their focus to their next opponent which is something Winnipeg has done a pretty good job of, regardless of whether the game prior was a win or loss. They face an underperforming Kraken team who are 19-23-3 which puts them eight points back of the final wild card spot.

We will have to see if there is any further progress with any of the four injured players (Haydn Fleury, Vlad Namestnikov, Colin Miller and Mason Appleton).

It looks like there will be no change to the lineup from Tuesday’s dominant 6-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks. Connor Hellebuyck will start in goal looking to add to his league leading win totals.

Vladislav Namestnikov and Mason Appleton skated before their teammates today and could be at practice as soon as Friday. Without Namestnikov, Scott Arniel has had to juggle his lines. His third line of Rasmus Kupari, Nino Niederreiter and Cole Perfetti was particularly effective combining for five points against the Canucks.

“Fun line to be on. Just try to do my thing, skate, work hard,” said Kupari, who will play in his 200th NHL game tonight.

“Obviously, Nino, big body, can protect the puck and make plays. Fetts, really skilled, can skate, can shoot, can score. So I think it’s a good combination of all the different things.”

The Jets scored another power play goal on Tuesday against the Canucks, and they remain first in the league in that department. They have been so good with the man advantage, teams are starting to focus on not taking penalties.

“We’re always focused on our five-on-five game because it’s a bigger-picture piece of our team. But we talk about it in our power play meetings, that the guys that are in there are largely our possession players and it is upon them to attack nets, attack the inside, hang onto puck and force the defender into a situation where he has to take a penalty to keep you from scoring,” said Jets assistant coach Davis Payne.

“If we get certain games where we’re stuck on the outside, a lot can be said for another team being disciplined, but at the same time, we look at it and are saying, ‘can we do more to force them into situations where a penalty might be their only answer?’”

The Jets are 4-1-0 against the Kraken in Winnipeg. Four of the past five meetings have been decided by one goal.

It’s game day, hockey fans! The Seattle Kraken are facing off against the Winnipeg Jets in what is sure to be an exciting matchup. Both teams are hungry for a win, so expect to see some intense action on the ice tonight.
