  • Jason Aldean Is Among Inauguration Musical Guests, There’s House Intrigue Over Ukraine, and Lots of People Are Buying Mansions

Good morning! A high of 36 today with a chance of snow showers after 10 AM, and a low of 26 overnight. The Caps will try to make it three in a row in Ottawa at 7 PM, and the Wizards play Phoenix at home. I am disappointed that the Lewis Hamilton x Sofia Vergara rumors are already fizzling out, you can find me on Bluesky, and there’s a link to my email address at the bottom of this post.

    I can’t stop listening to:

Lucy Dacus‘s new single, “Ankles.” The line “Pull me by my ankles to the edge of the bed” is certainly memorable, but the references to crossword puzzles and tea land harder for me, as does the très chic video.

Here’s some Trump news you might have blocked out:

    • Via an email from the TrumpVance inaugural committee, the following musicians will perform at inaugural events: Carrie Underwood, Christopher Maccio, and Lee Greenwood at the swearing-in; Kid Rock, the Village People, Billy Ray Cyrus, Greenwood, and Liberty University’s Praise Choir at Sunday’s rally at Capital One Arena; Jason Aldean, the Village People, and a “Surprise musical guest” at the Liberty Ball; Rascal Flatts and Parker McCollum at the Commander-in-Chief Ball; and Gavin DeGraw at The Starlight Ball.

    • House Speaker Mike Johnson removed Representative Michael R. Turner, an advocate for funding Ukraine, from the committee that oversees intelligence. (Washington Post) Margaret Brennan reports Johnson gave “concerns from Mar a Lago” as an explanation.

    • Meanwhile, Trump’s advisers reportedly say he won’t be able to end the war in a day. (Reuters)

Kristi Noem received a $140,000 advance for her autobiography. But really, you can’t buy that kind of publicity. (Politico)

    • There were a bunch of confirmation hearings. Marco Rubio even got a “civilized, polite, and downright friendly” airing. (Washington Post)

    Downstate

The couple next to me bailed at intermission, which gives you a good sense of the power of this squirm-in-your-seat work of thoughtful provocation from playwright Bruce Norris—and the toughest stuff doesn’t even arrive until the second act. The setting is a group home for sex offenders; obviously your reaction to the funny, sad, deeply unsettling events that unfold there will depend on your tolerance for discomfort. But as disturbing as it is, Downstate isn’t any kind of chore to sit through: I found it surprising and start-to-finish riveting.

  • JASON ALDEAN SURPRISES LOCAL NASHVILLE MUSICIAN BY JOINING HER ON STAGE – KBOE 104.9FM Hot Country

Over the holidays, an aspiring musician in Nashville had no idea they’d be getting a Christmas gift from Jason AldeanCay Aliese is a young musician playing the bars in Nashville trying to get something going. While she was playing a Music City bar last week, Jason and Brittany Aldean stopped in and liked what they heard so much, Brittany made a request of the singer, asking her to play Miranda Lambert‘s “Tin Man.” Not only did Cay play the song, but she got to do it with some high-powered accompaniment, as Jason jumped up on stage and played guitar and sang backup while she played keyboards and sang lead. Talk about a special moment for a young artist.

  • Jason Aldean Hops Onstage to Duet With a Young Artist

Jason Aldean Hops Onstage to Duet With a Young Artist

Rising artist and Nashville Broadway performer Cay Aliese got a life-changing experience during a regular gig on Friday (Dec. 27): Jason Aldean was in the crowd at her show — and even hopped onstage with her for a duet.

According to video that Aliese posted on social media, it all went down after Aldean’s wife Brittany — who was also there — requested a cover of Miranda Lambert‘s “Tin Man” during her set.

Getting a personal song request from the Aldeans was exciting enough, but that wasn’t all. The star himself wound up grabbing an acoustic guitar and joining her, and the pair sang “Tin Man” as a duet.

From the looks of the video, it seems that Aldean let Aliese take the spotlight for the performance. He strummed his guitar in the background and joined her on some of the vocals, but made it clear he was there as a backing musician.

It was a big moment for Aliese, who explained in the caption of her post that she’s a longtime fan of Aldean’s music.

“I used to sneak Jason Aldean on the school bus and I sing his songs every day on Broadway,” she wrote in the caption of her video post. “Meeting them tonight was so sweet!”

Aldean and his wife have been taking some time off for the holiday season, but Brittany has continued to share select moments from the family’s festivities.

Most recently, she shared a social media carousel of photos that the couple’s two children, Memphis and Navy, have taken with Santa through the years.

She also shared shocking video of the family’s holiday vacation, where a family of bears broke into their cars during a trip to a remote cabin.

Jason Aldean exploded onto the country music scene in 2005 with his first hit “Hicktown,” which shot to No. 10 on the country charts. Since then, the megastar has released 11 studio albums and has had 27 songs reach No. 1. Let’s take a look back at a young Jason Aldean, when he was just getting started.
