    She celebrated her nomination on her Instagram Stories, writing, “Ahhhh so grateful..and the fact that this song is my light work. Whew!!! This album honey…anyways thank you guys. Enjoy your day!!”

    Cardi also revealed on Instagram Live that the song was originally called “And Her Name is Cardi K,” and she wrote it due to feeling ganged up on. “I was really angry. I felt like…bitches was ganging up on me, I felt like I was very, like, underestimated. Even like my fanbase,” she said, going on to add, “I got in the studio on some mad shit, but honest with you, I’m not on that space right now. I don’t give a fuck about nobody right now. But that’s her original name. Her original name is ‘Cardi K,’ but her stage name is ‘Enough/Miami.’”

    Yuya Tokuda, director of the upcoming slay-a-thon Monster Hunter Wilds, is very proud of the terrifying Oilwell Basin and the critters within it. The basin itself is styled as a ‘what if we made the deep ocean on land and then set it all on fire’ zone. For context, it’s home to that horrible “affront to god” fans were yelping about last year.

    It’s also home to—spoilers, obviously—the apex creature Nu Udra, which is sort of what you’d get if you made a squid on land and then set it all on fire. In an interview and reveal with IGN, the top beastie of the Oilwell Basin is revealed to be an enormous squidlike monstrosity dubbed The Black Flame.

  • China’s Tech Giant At A Discount: What’s Holding Alibaba Back?


    Chinese e-commerce and cloud behemoth Alibaba stock stock has gained about 12% since early 2024 but remains down over 70% from its 2020 highs. The stock trades at a reasonable $85 per share, equivalent to less than 10x projected FY’25 earnings. In comparison, Amazon trades at approximately 36x forward earnings. Alibaba also holds about $50 billion in net cash—roughly a quarter of its market value—bringing the ex-cash multiple down to under 8x.     What’s Held Alibaba Stock Back of Late?

    Alibaba reported better-than-expected Q2 FY’25 results, with revenue rising 5% year over year to 236.5 billion yuan (approximately $33.7 billion) and net income surging 58% to 43.9 billion yuan (around $6 billion). However, China’s retail market remains weak due to mixed consumer sentiment and slowing economic growth following the real estate crisis. This has impacted spending, particularly on discretionary items. Increasing competition in the e-commerce space has also proved a challenge for the company. PDD, the owner of discount platforms Pinduoduo and Temu, has gained traction as Chinese consumers have turned a bit more value-conscious on account of the sluggish economy. Revenue from Alibaba’s Taobao and Tmall online marketplaces grew by just 1% year-over-year to $14.1 billion in Q4 FY’24. Concerns about a mixed recovery in consumption could linger, potentially exacerbated by higher U.S. tariffs and the risk of an escalating U.S.-China trade war as Donald Trump assumes the U.S. presidency.

    Trends That Could Help Alibaba

    Since late September 2024, China has introduced substantial stimulus measures and interest rate cuts, which could help to stimulate economic growth and consumer spending. Alibaba has also been tweaking its fee model and recently replaced its annual fixed service fee for vendors with a 0.6% software service fee on gross merchandise value for transactions on Tmall and Taobao. This move could enhance revenue from its core customer management services, following significant investments in its platforms and technology. The company’s digital marketing tool, Quanzhantui, is also expected to boost monetization for Taobao and Tmall marketplaces.

    Alibaba’s cross-border e-commerce platforms, AliExpress and Trendyol, have emerged as key growth drivers, with revenues soaring nearly 29% to $4.5 billion in the most recent quarter, led by the strong performance of initiatives such as the AliExpress Choice program which offers free shipping and other services. Growth in the international business could help soften the weakness in China in the interim. Alibaba is also adjusting its broader e-commerce strategy to emulate value-focused competitors like Pinduoduo.

    While Alibaba’s cloud computing business saw a slowdown post the Covid-19 pandemic due to waning demand for computing power associated with remote work, and remote education, things have been getting better. Over the last quarter, the company’s Cloud Intelligence Group has returned to growth, with sales rising 7% year-over-year to 29.6 billion yuan ($4.2 billion), driven by strong public cloud growth and a triple-digit increase in AI-related product revenue. There’s a possibility that the company’s AI initiatives could potentially see backing from the Chinese government, amid U.S. restrictions on advanced semiconductor chip exports to China and the growing geopolitical importance of AI. In the AI space, Alibaba is developing open-source large language models, allowing developers greater flexibility to build custom solutions using its technology. This strategy could encourage developers to adopt Alibaba’s cloud services for deploying these models.

    Notably, BABA stock has performed worse than the broader market in each of the last 4 years. Returns for the stock were -49% in 2021, -26% in 2022, -11% in 2023, and 12% in 2024.     WASHINGTON — Giant pandas Bao Li [BOW-lee] and Qing Bao [ching-BOW] made their public debut at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) on Friday. Zoo workers and city officials held a special ceremony to unveil the pandas to the public, declaring the Zoo the “District of Panda.”

    “For over 50 years, giant pandas have been an integral part of the fabric and culture of Washington, D.C., thanks in large part to the support of the communities that live and work in the District,” Brandie Smith, the John and Adrienne Mars Director of NZCBI, said. “Bao Li and Qing Bao have won our hearts, and we’re excited to welcome panda fans back to the Zoo—the only place in the nation where you can see giant pandas for free—and celebrate the newest chapter of our giant panda breeding and conservation program.”

    As part of the giant panda comeback, the National Zoo relaunched its Giant Panda Cam, sponsored by The Boeing Company, ensuring virtual visitors could join in the celebration and welcome the animal ambassadors to Washington. The Giant Panda Cam is composed of 40 cameras operated from a central system by a corps of specially trained volunteers. The webcams broadcast from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET. After 7 p.m., the day’s recording is rebroadcast to ensure virtual visitors around the world can view the animals at their most active.

    More Panda fun:

    From Jan. 24 to Feb. 9, the Zoo will host the District of Panda Party, a public celebration with special events and programs, including a Lunar New Year event. It is made possible with the support of Boeing, FedEx, Pepco and Events DC.

    During the District of Panda Party, visitors can celebrate on-site at the Zoo with free and family-friendly entertainment, including film screenings of “Kung Fu Panda” in the Visitor Center Theater and cultural activities provided courtesy of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. Details on the events are available on the Zoo’s website and will continue to be updated as the event approaches.

    The pandas, Bao Li and Qing Bao, have been quarantined since they arrived in the U.S. from China in mid-October, giving the animals time to adjust to their newly renovated habitat.

    Tickets to the National Zoo are free. For those who can’t say hello in person, the Giant Panda Cam is expected to relaunch Friday.

    From now through Feb. 9, the zoo is celebrating the pandas’ return with events, including a screening of “Kung Fu Panda” in the Visitor Center Theater.

    DC’s panda drought is over

    The zoo’s previous beloved bears, Tian Tian, Mei Xiang and Xiao Qi Ji, were returned to China in November 2023.

    The new bears didn’t arrive until 11 months later, causing some fear in the interim that the partnership between the two countries to exchange the animals in the name of conservation was a thing of the past.

    While the wait may have felt unbearable to some, panda-lovers rejoiced at the bears’ return to D.C. in October, cheering them on as their police-escorted motorcade drove into the National Zoo on Oct. 15, 2024.

    Over the last several months, the zoo has been helping Bao Li and Qing Bao get used to the smells and sounds of crowds. Part of that has involved some zoo members visiting the panda enclosure, which was renovated in their absence.

    They’ve been playing in the snow and enjoying lots of bamboo, zookeepers said.

    Spot the difference? How to tell the new pandas apart

    The black-and-white bears can look pretty similar at first glance, but the Smithsonian Magazine has some tips for telling the new pandas apart.

    Off the bat, Bao Li, a 3-year-old boy, is bigger than Qing Bao.

    But here are some other key markers the magazine pointed out:

    • Qing Bao has two round, dark-colored birthmarks on her left backside
    • Qing Bao has fluffier cheeks than Bao Li
    • Bao Li’s eye patches are wider and have pointy tips that flare out more than Qing Bao
    • The black band across Bao Li’s back is thicker and down his middle; Qing Bao’s is thinner and higher

    Of course, their personalities are a bit different, too. According to the Smithsonian, Bao Li is “playful” and “attention-seeking,” but Qing Bao is more reserved and independent.

    Bao Li has roots in D.C. He’s the son of Bao Bao, who was born at the D.C. zoo in 2013.

    A lesson in panda history

    The National Zoo became the first zoo in the U.S. to take part in what’s become known as “panda diplomacy” when a pair of pandas from China arrived at the zoo in 1972.

    In the decades since, the Chinese government has lent pandas to zoos worldwide.

    But, in recent years, China opted to not renew some of those agreements. Pandas from D.C. and San Diego were among those to fly back to China, with no plans for new bears to return in their place.

    Ultimately, China agreed to send back new pandas to California, D.C. and Spain — squashing fears about threats to panda diplomacy.

    The superstar pandas traveled from China and arrived in the U.S. on Oct. 15, 2024. National Zoo members had the opportunity to see the pandas in a special preview held between Jan. 10 and Jan. 19, a period that gave the giant pandas time to acclimate to their new home.

    “Bao Li and Qing Bao have already won the hearts of our staff and volunteers, and we are excited to welcome panda fans back to the Zoo — the only place in the nation where you can see giant pandas for free — and celebrate the newest chapter of our giant panda breeding and conservation program,” Brandie Smith, the John and Adrienne Mars Director of the National Zoo, said in a news release.

    “They’re very active and they’re just a lot of fun and obviously super cute,” zookeeper Mariel Lally told ABC News previously about the two pandas.

    The National Zoo will host a series of public events and programs celebrating the giant pandas between Jan. 25 and Feb. 9, including a Lunar New Year event. Some Washington, D.C., hotels are even offering panda-themed packages with amenities such as stuffed toy pandas, roundtrip transportation to the zoo and panda-themed beverages.

    Panda enthusiasts can see the giant pandas for free at the National Zoo, the only zoo in the U.S. where visitors can see the animals free of charge.
