  • Ruben Amorim reaction — Manchester United boss on Crystal Palace loss, Lisandro Martinez injury

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will be rueing wasteful finishing, rough defending, and a potentially huge injury in the Red Devils’ 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a brace for the visiting Eagles, yet on another day the goals would’ve been a part of a thrilling score line.

[ MORE: Man United vs Crystal Palace recap ]

United took 14 shots but only asked former goalkeeper Dean Henderson to make two saves for the visitors, as Henderson controlled the Palace box with six recoveries.

Amorim’s men held 65% of the ball but were poor without the ball for much of the other 35%, as defender Harry Maguire had a rough day amidst a recent resurgence in the back line.

Adding injury to the insult was a scary Lisandro Martinez injury that left the Argentine back in tears as he was stretchered off the pitch.

We’ll have all of Amorim’s words as soon as he says them from Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim reaction — Manchester United boss on Crystal Palace loss, Lisandro Martinez injury

Manchester United suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday, prompting manager Ruben Amorim to address the team’s performance and the injury to defender Lisandro Martinez.

Amorim expressed his frustration after the loss, stating that the team failed to execute their game plan and lacked the necessary intensity on the field. He emphasized the need for his players to bounce back quickly and learn from their mistakes in order to improve moving forward.

The injury to Lisandro Martinez also raised concerns for Amorim, as the defender was forced off the field in the first half with a suspected ankle injury. The extent of Martinez’s injury is still unknown, but Amorim expressed his hope for a speedy recovery and praised the defender for his contributions to the team so far this season.

Overall, Amorim remains determined to turn things around for Manchester United and is focused on regaining their winning form in the upcoming matches. Fans will be eagerly anticipating the team’s response in their next game as they look to bounce back from this disappointing result.

  • Lisandro Martinez injury updates – Man Utd vs Crystal Palace halted after defender suffers sickening knee injury in loss

    Man Utd 0-1 Crystal Palace

    72. A cynical trip from Hughes sends Hojlund sprawling in the centre of the pitch.

It’s a clear yellow card although the midfielder points out it wouldn’t have happened if Eze had been awarded a free-kick seconds earlier.

    Man Utd 0-1 Crystal Palace

    70. Manchester United need a goal. Rasmus Hojlund needs a goal. Joshua Zirkzee needs a goal.

Both strikers are now on, taking over from Kobbie Mainoo and Noussair Mazraoui.

    Man Utd 0-1 Crystal Palace

    68. Rather than rallying since falling behind, United are suddenly looking shakey.

Palace smell blood, and Hughes has the chance to slip in Mateta for a second but overcooks his pass.

    Man Utd 0-1 Crystal Palace

    66. Bruno Fernandes was booked for dissent in the aftermath of that Crystal Palace goal.

I’ve no idea what he may have been complaining about, but he’s not alone among those inside Old Trafford.

    Man Utd 0-1 Crystal Palace

    64. Crystal Palace lead through Jean-Philippe Mateta!

It’s an instant impact from substitute Ebere Eze, who swings a delightful free-kick over for Maxence Lacroix to meet.

The defender’s thumping header crashes against the crossbar and with Andre Onana grounded, Mateta reacts quicker than Harry Maguire to follow up and bury into the empty net.

The travelling fans celebrate, and now sense another victory over Manchester United.

In a shocking turn of events, Lisandro Martinez suffered a sickening knee injury during the match between Manchester United and Crystal Palace. The defender’s injury forced the game to be halted as he received medical attention on the pitch.

The severity of Martinez’s injury is still unknown, but it was clear from the reaction of players and fans that it was a serious incident. The Argentine defender has been a key player for Manchester United this season, and his absence will surely be felt in the coming matches.

Fans and teammates alike are hoping for a speedy recovery for Martinez, and are sending their thoughts and prayers to him during this difficult time. Stay tuned for more updates on his condition as they become available.

  • Lisandro Martinez injury — Manchester United back stretchered off in tears vs Crystal Palace

Manchester United center back Lisandro Martinez was stretchered off the Old Trafford pitch in tears after suffering a worrying injury against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The distressed 27-year-old defender has been one of United’s most regular contributors this year, as only four other players have played more Premier League minutes prior to Sunday’s kickoff.

[ MORE: Man United vs Crystal Palace recap ]

Martinez was in a challenge with Jean-Philippe Mateta when his knee seemed to bend in an awkward direction. He immediately hit the grass and called for medical attention.

There were several minutes treatment on the pitch and it wasn’t long into that care that a stretcher was requested by the trainers. Martinez was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt in the match, trailing 1-0 with around 10 minutes to play.

Fans encouraged the 26-times capped Argentine as he was carried down the touch line and into the tunnel.

We’ll have Ruben Amorim’s update on Martinez’s injury, if there is one, after the game.

In a heartbreaking turn of events, Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United was stretchered off the field in tears during their match against Crystal Palace. The talented defender appeared to have suffered a serious injury, leaving fans and teammates concerned for his well-being.

Martinez, who has been a key player for United this season, was seen clutching his knee in pain after a collision with an opponent. The medical team immediately rushed to his aid and carefully immobilized him before taking him off the pitch.

The sight of Martinez being carried off in tears was a sobering moment for all involved, as the young player’s potential absence could be a significant blow to United’s defensive line. The extent of his injury is yet to be determined, but hopes are high for a swift recovery.

  • Crystal Palace: Millwall winger Romain Esse signs on deal until 2030

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of teenage Millwall winger Romain Esse on a five-and-a-half-year deal.

The 19-year-old Lions academy graduate, who has represented England at under-18, U19 and U20 levels, joins for a reported, external fee of £12m, potentially rising to £14.5m with add-ons.

Esse made his debut for Millwall as a 17-year-old on 26 January 2022. He has gone on to score seven goals in 66 appearances.

“Romain is the type of player who gets crowds off their seats – the type of player long associated with south London and Crystal Palace Football Club,” said Palace chairman Steve Parish, announcing the Eagles’ first signing of the January transfer window.

“Everyone at the club is looking forward to watching him shine on the pitch, and fulfil his exciting potential.”

Lambeth-born Esse has weighed in with five goals for Millwall this season, his last coming in a 2-1 defeat in the Championship at Norwich on Boxing Day.

Millwall manager Alex Neil left the youngster out of his side for Monday’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Dagenham & Redbridge and called for a resolution to Esse’s future amid the transfer speculation.

The deal was finally confirmed by Palace on Saturday after Esse completed a medical.

“I’m very excited to be here. It’s a good project and a good opportunity, so I just can’t wait to get started,” Esse told the Palace website., external

Oliver Glasner’s Palace, who play West Ham on Saturday (15:00 GMT), came into the weekend sitting 15th in the Premier League, having moved eight points clear of the relegation zone with a 2-0 win at Leicester City in their last match.

Crystal Palace has made a big splash in the transfer market by securing the services of Millwall winger Romain Esse on a long-term deal until 2030. The exciting young talent has been turning heads with his impressive performances for Millwall, and now he will have the chance to showcase his skills on a bigger stage at Selhurst Park.

Esse is known for his lightning pace, trickery on the ball, and eye for goal, making him a perfect fit for Crystal Palace’s attacking style of play. The 23-year-old winger will add a new dimension to the Eagles’ attacking options and provide competition for the current first-team players.

Crystal Palace fans will be excited to see what Esse can bring to the team and how he can help them push for European qualification in the coming seasons. With his potential and talent, the future looks bright for both Esse and Crystal Palace. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting signing!

  • Preview: Crystal Palace vs. Brentford – prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday’s Premier League clash between Crystal Palace and Brentford, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Two London teams meet at Selhurst Park this weekend, as Crystal Palace host Brentford on Sunday afternoon in the Premier League.

With just one point and one position separating the two sides in the standings, the hosts could move above the Bees with a win.

    Match preview

After a frustrating start to the season, in which Palace failed to win any of their opening eight Premier League fixtures, the hosts have hit their stride in recent weeks.

Palace come into this clash unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions, with their last defeat coming at home to Arsenal just before Christmas.

Oliver Glasner‘s side have claimed 11 points out of a possible 15 over that period, and they also progressed in the third round of the FA Cup with a victory over Stockport County.

Despite their upturn in fortunes, Palace will be looking to improve on their disappointing home record in the Premier League, with only four sides performing worse than the Eagles in their home fixtures so far in the league.

One of their key strengths this season has been their defence, with the hosts conceding 28 goals in their 22 league matches so far this season.

However, they have struggled to capitalise on their strong defensive record, as their attack has only scored 25 goals in the league, with only relegation candidates Leicester City, Ipswich Town, Everton and Southampton having less joy in front of goal.

On top of this, only Ipswich and Southampton have scored less times in front of their own fans than Palace, with the Eagles currently on 10 home goals.

They will fancy their chances of improving both their scoring and home record against a Brentford side that have struggled on the road, having won just once away from home in the Premier League all season.

That sole triumph came in their last away match, with the Bees taking out a season’s worth of frustration on their travels by thumping sorry Southampton 5-0 at St Mary’s.

Thankfully for the visitors, they are compensating for their miserable away record with the third-best home record in the division.

Despite not having a fantastic record on the road this year, Brentford may welcome the change of scenery, having lost four out of their last five matches at home in all competitions.

It has been a difficult stretch for the Bees lately, as they have just one win in their past nine matches in all competitions – a run that has seen them fall from seventh to 12th in the Premier League, and also crash out of the FA Cup in the third round.

In contrast to their hosts, Thomas Frank‘s side have one of the most potent attacking units in the league, with the Bees netting 40 times in their 22 matches this season – with both Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa already into double figures in the scoring charts.

As the table suggests, the two sides are evenly matched, and they have both finished in the top half of the Premier League in recent memory.

Should there be a winner at Selhurst Park this weekend, then that side will be positioning themselves to achieve that once again this time around.

    Team News

Jefferson Lerma is a doubt for the hosts after being out of action due to a recent illness, while Adam Wharton is out due to a groin injury.

Elsewhere, Matheus Franca is also out of this contest, as he continues his recovery from a broken rib, while Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure will also miss out due to knee injuries.

Meanwhile, Brentford have a couple of doubts ahead of this match, with Igor Thiago recently sidelined due to a knee injury and Gustavo Nunes nursing a back injury.

In better news for the visitors, they have been handed a boost, as Kristoffer Ajer is expected to make the squad this weekend following six weeks out with an ankle injury.

Elsewhere, Ethan Pinnock (knock), Aaron Hickey (hamstring) and Joshua Dasilva (knee) remain long-term absentees for the Bees.

In further disappointing news for the visitors, youngster Ryan Trevitt is a doubt for this fixture due to a calf injury.

    Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Henderson; Mitchell, Guehi, Lacroix, Richards, Munoz; Kamada, Hughes, Sarr, Eze; Mateta

    Brentford possible starting lineup:
Flekken; Lewis-Potter, Collins, Van den Berg, Roerslev; Yarmolyuk, Norgaard, Janelt, Damsgaard; Wissa, Mbeumo

We say: Crystal Palace 1-1 Brentford

There is little to separate the two sides in the standings and we think that this will show on the pitch on Sunday too.

Five of the seven fixtures between these sides in the Premier League have ended in a draw, so we expect it to be more of the same this weekend.

    Prediction:

This match is expected to be a closely contested one, with both teams having shown strong performances in their recent games. Crystal Palace will have the home advantage, but Brentford have also been in good form. It could be a tight game, but I predict a 2-1 victory for Crystal Palace.

    Team News:

Crystal Palace will be without the services of defender Nathan Ferguson and midfielder Michael Olise, who are both sidelined with injuries. However, they will have their key players like Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke available for selection.

Brentford, on the other hand, will be missing midfielder Mathias Jensen due to suspension. They will also be without the injured trio of Christian Norgaard, Shandon Baptiste, and Josh Dasilva. However, they have a strong squad and will be looking to put in a good performance.

    Lineups:

Crystal Palace: Guaita, Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell, McArthur, Gallagher, Schlupp, Zaha, Ayew, Benteke.
